good morning modern studders we're up here at the off-grid property and we've been working on installing our earth anchors for our solar array if you guys are new to the channel we're building an off-grid homestead up here at our off-grid property and we're working on getting our foundation and everything ready for the tiny house we got our septic tank installed we want to get all of our earth anchors installed and our solar ray built before winter can we can get winter or snow within a few weeks now so we're just trying to get all the outside work done and i want to get all my earth anchors in the ground and we have really rocky soil welcome to new england new england is loaded with rocks and it's always something we have to contend with and deal with so i'm screwing in these earth anchors let me pick one up we're screwing in these earth anchors they're 80 inches long yeah they're taller than me huh yeah look at that would you so they're pretty tall we're getting them in the ground good some of them aren't going all the way down for our area we need them to be 63 inches deep so if they're not completely all on the ground that's all right as long as they're 63 inches in the ground we are good to go with our wind this system will be rated for 105 mile per hour winds we normally don't get that here but every once in a while you could so that's what it's designed for so as long as we get these 63 inches in the ground we're good we'll cut them off we'll weld our other pipes in everything's gonna look beautiful when we're done but the issue i just had is i'm hitting a lot of rocks down here i'd hit the rocks and the earth anchors would go off at an angle they weren't imperfectly straight and the next pipes are smaller so we have enough play to straighten them out one of them we're gonna have to make a base to offset it but we'll get into that in another video when i was working on the far end i was hitting rocks for the last four holes like within a foot and we ended up destroying one of the earth anchors we can fix it make it work we're not gonna have a problem with that but i just got scratched in my head we have these four and then 11 more over this we have 15 more earth anchors we got to put in and if i'm going to keep destroying them and hitting rocks that's not going to work so i stopped we did a lot of thinking and head scratching at our other homestead we installed a greenhouse and we have even rockier soil over there and we had to put post in the ground every four feet apart how long is that that's 48 feet long and those had to be four feet in the ground so what we ended up doing where it was really rocky was you dug a trench took all the big rocks out filled the trench back up packed it and then put all of our ground posts in so that's what i'm gonna do here we're gonna dig a trench from here to the excavator about 63 to 80 inches deep and then on the front of the row we're gonna do the same thing and you know what i probably should have done this right from the beginning and i wouldn't had a headache for these last ones that we put in live and learn all right hold number one let's see what we find for a rock i'm hoping that this rock doesn't go from this first hole all the way to the fourth hole because that would be one big rock i don't think the bobcat would get out [Music] oh yeah that'd be the culprit baby wonderly ricky diggy [Music] [Music] good [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] so so [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] ah [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah well that right there don't be our problem all those big old rocks the little ones those will probably had down there and they would still kick the anchors off the left or right a little bit but these big ones will stop them i think we're making the right call it's either that or where i would have had to get something in here to drill and that would have cost a lot of money i could just imagine what it would cost to drill these holes i don't want to know [Music] good so [Music] this right here must be the depth of that last earth anchor stopped we're right around the three foot mark i'm curious to see if we pull out for a rock [Music] i don't know how well it's really gonna show up on camera but this pile right here is all big rocks that we got out of the trench and that was just from this last area right here that we need to put four posts in we still have to go down the front or we're gonna be doing 11 posts so luckily we need some fill up in front of the tiny house because i want to bring the grade out more so all these big bony rocks we'll put in front of there and that'll make good fill for that so we have a use for it it's just taking a lot of time [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] i hate the jinx myself but this side so far for the first two are going well i'm wondering if it gets the big boulders back there for some reason [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] well i'm definitely glad we did the fifth hole there was quite a few pieces of flat granite right where we had to drill about six inches down [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right last hole let's see how this one goes so far this side has not been as bad as the other side let's see if it continues this way [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] all right we got the trench all filled back in it's looking good the hardest part was having enough material to fill it in with all the rocks we have taken out we got a couple of piles here there and then there which they'll all go over here to raise that up but man i'm glad we got this done that was quite a project it's another nice beautiful one up here at the off-road property and tomorrow is the big day we're going to be pouring the concrete up here for our tiny house slab we're gonna be pouring the concrete tomorrow with a friend and fellow youtuber some of the tiny house build we're gonna be doing a collaboration with this other youtube channel so i am excited to get the concrete poured i am excited to be working with this other youtube channel this is exciting because this is the next stage of the build it's gonna look so different up here once we have the slab and then we can start on a few more finishing touches before we start building the tiny house starting to get real so i'm gonna score the pipe that's around our pipe for our toilet one of you guys recommended that we score this and then this way after the concrete's poured it'll be easier to break this pipe off so right here we have a six inch pvc pipe around our four inch pipe we're gonna pour the concrete right up to the top this is all plugged off nicely so we can't we don't get to worry about concrete getting in here moving this we're going to score this a little bit in at least two spots so that way once the concrete's done we can go in here and break this pipe off and it'll be a lot easier once it's scored so thank you for that recommendation [Music] that should do it i am looking forward to getting the concrete down because we're going to get all this green crete heat covered up this stuff has worked awesome but it is terrible for videoing when the sun is on it just looks obnoxious so i'm sorry for that it'll be covered up soon but the other day we got an inch and a quarter of rain and it kind of messed up our forms a little bit so we got to go around and put the string back out and then just make sure the forms are nice and straight because i don't want our concrete doing this when we're all said and done it's going to be nice having all the concrete done because it's gonna be one less thing we have to worry about every time it rains yes if you look down there's one area that's pushed in about two inches so we gotta fix that bow so it's nice and straight the whole way okay [Music] [Music] all right we'll run a string down the back make sure that's good and we'll quickly do the sides all right now we just have this one little bow left once we get this out the long walls be all done and we won't have to do this again that side is nice and straight i'm just going to throw an extra stake in the middle just to strengthen up our form so we don't got to worry about losing any concrete babe you missed tying down some of the rebar there's one short little piece that we didn't get you must have forgot it i think you did i don't know how you forgot i don't even think i was over on the side this was all your side it was yeah i did that side this was your side are you serious if i can remember how to do it are you just trying to see if you're paying attention good thing picked up some little cones we're going to use these to pick our rebar up off of the foam we want our rebar roughly in the middle of the concrete and that's going to give our concrete more strength concrete has i believe it's called compressive strength so like up and down pressure on it it's really strong but side to side it can break apart if it's getting pulled so by putting your rebar in there you're adding the strength of the side to side so if it breaks it can't pull apart and that's the whole point of the rebar so you want it in the middle so it's got you got your strength throughout your slab put it right around the flower as you call it perfect break these little plastic tabs off [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] do [Music] [Music] so i want to mark the layout for our bathroom wall and then i want to mark the layout for where our shower wall is going to be going because we're going to be doing a custom built-in shower system so this is our shower drain for our shower and the concrete floor i'm gonna taper it tomorrow so the floor will work perfectly with the shower so we don't need to put a shower pan in we don't need to do anything else we won't have a curb to step over it's all gonna be part of the bathroom floor it'll just be a nice easy smooth transition from the bathroom into the shower and then all the water is gonna drain right into the drain so this right here is going to be the wall between the bathroom and the powerhouse so i want to taper all of the floor to the drain this way and then from the back of the wall which is here so we'll tape it from here down that way and then from the front that way i got to pick up a few more of these cones tonight and put them in right before concrete gets poured because we ran out we're going to need oh probably about another 15 of them down on the far end but they've worked out really handy they sit right over the little flower as gina calls it in the crete heat foam and it's just stays there and raises up the rebar nicely and the radiant heat pex is holding strong at just under 40 psi i like it [Music] oh [Music] uh i just got done making this chicken broth and i'm just going to put uncooked rice in here it's going to take longer but it's going to absorb the flavors of the soup just add some more salt and pepper [Music] do it feels good to be pouring concrete tomorrow guys oh we're so looking forward to it i'm glad to have the trenches all dug and backfilled for the solar array it is amazing how many rocks we had there but that project is done now we get to move on with concrete it's going to make such a difference thanks for coming along on our homesteading journey you guys are a huge blessing to us in our homestead if you like the video give it a thumbs up share it really helps and we'll see you right back here in the next video when we'll be pouring concrete see you in the next one bye figaro what are you doing huh what are you doing
