when you think about videos that go in-depth on various facts about Minecraft what comes to mind a simple top 5 or top 10 about a specific creature block or item well if that's what you're after today then you're in the wrong place because when I gear up for a deep dive into minecraft history I'm diving much deeper than that today we're gonna be checking out a handful of significant but not so well known features that were maybe for that very reason removed from Minecraft entirely now this isn't going to be an all-inclusive list plenty of features were removed from the game after only being implemented for a single snapshot or so horse armor and saddle crafting recipes the April Fool's 2011 locked chest old sounds textures and the list goes on and on no today I just want to focus on features that had some kind of a significant function or purpose that are no longer in the game curious as to what I mean well let's get right to the point and get right into it this video is sponsored by MC pro hosting [Music] so what kind of significant features could I be talking about well if you play Minecraft Java Edition one point eight point nine as most of the pvp community still does you may have seen a button within the options menu called broadcast settings when you click on this button these days all you get is some kind of error message where in my case it said I couldn't stream until I merge my already merged minecraft account with a Mojang email but what this feature used to do was quite simple it allowed for you to livestream your game play to twitch.tv right from within the game itself you could integrate your microphone for commentary you could adjust all manner of various quality settings and even integrate your twitch channels chat directly into Minecraft but on July 29th 2015 within snapshot 15 W 31 a this feature was entirely removed from the game it could be speculated that Mojang made the decision to remove this feature from the game due to their upcoming acquisition of a new streaming service called Beam later renamed to mixer but Microsoft acquired beam in August of 2016 while the in-game twitch integration was removed in July of 2015 so they're kind of a year off next up on our list was an item that was actually removed within the very same snapshot as before and can be found in game in about the same place I'm talking about the super secret settings button initially implemented within snapshot 13w 38a for minecraft java edition 1.7 this button allowed for you to randomly cycle through around two dozen various visual effects that would impact how the world around you looked some of them were obvious some of them weren't however if you wanted to know which effect was active at any given moment all you had to do was keep the f3 menu open while you were cycling through the various options if you want to see all of these options in action I would actually recommend for you to personally open minecraft 1.8 and try them out for yourself since the compression of this video on YouTube is likely to make many of the settings that I'm showing nearly impossible to notice the difference with that in mind however I think it's also worth noting that these effects were never entirely removed from Minecraft just the super secret settings option if you want to see some of these effects within modern versions of Minecraft try observing either a creeper in Enderman or a spider within spectator mode by just clicking on them did you know that you could even do that well you can and it's awesome all right the next feature has two parts to it as I'm sure most of you know within minecraft Java edition which of this entire video is based on you can hit the f2 key on your keyboard to take a screenshot of Minecraft this screenshot can be accessed from within your dot minecraft screenshots folder or within modern versions of the game you can just click the link that appears in chat to open the screenshot directly but for those of you who were unaware this feature was actually only added to Minecraft for the alpha 1.2 update which is also the same update that brought us the nether but before this feature ever existed not experimented with the idea of isometric screen shots during Minecraft in dev many world options for Minecraft in dev vary wildly from the options that we have available today so for example if you generate a small island world and take an isometric screenshot you get a little something like this pretty simple right well if you instead generated a tall floating island and took an isometric screenshot it's pretty easy to see why not wanted to implement this feature into the game it just looks awesome though as you might imagine this feature was ultimately short-lived because the idea of taking an isometric screenshot became impossible with the introduction of infinitely sized world now while you may have known about isometric screenshots did you know that in minecraft beta 1.2 underscore Oh to not CH also experimented with another type of custom screenshots by holding shift and pressing f2 it was possible to take a screenshot that isn't your normal 1920 by 1080 pixels or somewhere there abouts no the screenshot that this feature took was thirty six thousand four hundred and fifty by seventeen thousand seven hundred pixels that is six hundred and forty five megapixels for comparison this is how small a 1920 by 1080 image is when overlaid one over the other using a program called paint.net we can still open the 1.8 gigabyte screenshot to see what it looks like on the surface it just looks like a normal screenshot right well as i zoom in closer and closer and closer yeah this isn't just your average screenshot honestly I can kind of see why this feature didn't stand the test of time it's just too unnecessary it is pretty interesting though alright you play minecraft I play minecraft we know this game we know that if you place down a 2 by 2 block formation of water you get an infinite water spring now isn't it sort of perplexing that we can't do the same thing with lava within the nether I mean lava flows just as fast and just as far in the nether as water does in the overworld we should be able to do this hopefully we do ultimately get that feature when minecraft 1.16 comes out but wait actually for a very brief period of time during the final days before minecraft 1.0 is released at Minecon 2011 a feature snuck into the game that allowed for infinite lava Springs all you needed was 4 blocks of lava arranged into a plus like pattern and there we go the center block of lava is now in infinite spring and at the time anyways you could take out just as much lava as you wanted without having to go into the nether and tediously drain the nearest lava lake and speaking of lava and water I think we all also sort of understand what happens when water and lava meet if flowing water touches a source block of lava you get obsidian from the lava if flowing water meets flowing lava we get cobblestone and if flowing lava meets a source block of water then the touched water becomes regular stone but did you know during various versions of Minecraft through at least beta 1.7 it was possible to make an obsidian farm it functioned just like a cobblestone farm but if you place down a piece of redstone wire where the lava block was to meet up with the water as you can see here instead of cobblestone appearing obsidian would appear instead which means if you had an excess of redstone just laying around in a chest that you weren't using it could easily be repurposed for an obsidian farm and obsidian based creations without again having to go into the nether and harvest a bunch of lava that way and now rapid fire did you know that it was actually possible to craft iron gold and diamond horse armor for about two weeks during snapshots 13 w 16 and 17 or that you could craft chain Armour from Minecraft in dev all the way up until snapshot 14 W 25 a where fire as an item became completely unobtainable the recipe for enchanted golden apples was also removed as well about a year after that thankfully I could also go through the dozens of seemingly random items to be removed from the game as well throughout the years such as how when potions were initially implemented during Minecraft beta pre-release 1.9 there were 29 potions that went unused and were only obtainable via commands and multiplayer honestly I think it'd be kind of awesome to see these potions return if you were to put seemingly random items into the brewing stand or perhaps these potions could combine some of the current effects into a single potion like swiftness and jump boost or something like that I don't know to me anyways the potential actually seems pretty limitless when you really think about it while mine craft potions don't have limitless options one minecraft server provider that does have seemingly limitless options
