[Music] when he was alive Marvel fans couldn't stop talking about Tony Stark and what he was gonna do next and now that he's gone well we still can't stop talking about him even if he's not your favorite Avenger you have to admit he had a huge hand in shaping not just the team but the MCU itself losing Tony and Avengers endgame made sense from a plot standpoint but could there have been another reason I played behind the scenes and have we really seen the last of Tony Stark in the MCU and again that's keurig a part of the journeys the [Music] before we get started talking about the tragic loss of the arguably great Tony Stark let's talk about what a massive success endgame was don't worry we promise it's relevant we're sure we don't have to tell you our CB our viewers what makes Marvel movies so great there are compelling characters amazing visuals interesting storylines and just the right amount of jokes and heartwarming moments while some MCU films are better than others the fact that Marvel Studios has managed to create a cinematic universe spanning over a decade is incredibly impressive they definitely set high standards and generated an astonishing amount of hype for Avengers end game Disney definitely went the extra mile to market it and it was one of the most highly anticipated films in recent history overall fans and critics alike loved the movie and that is abundantly clear when you see the box office gross it's taken in over 2.8 billion dollars worldwide in just 11 days at race Pass Avengers infinity Wars entire run just how many box-office records did it break well let's just say the list of box office record set by Avengers end game literally have their own Wikipedia page you can google them on your own if you want but maybe the biggest accomplishment is that a knock training movie champ avatar off its pedestal since 2009 avatar has been the highest-grossing movie in history before endgame came along a decade later and beat it maybe now James Cameron will actually finish avatar - yeah right and in many ways Tony has been at the heart of the MCU since it all began before the first Iron Man movie most casual and non comic book fans weren't familiar with Tony Stark and even people who did know who he was weren't necessarily fans the guys in narcissistic billionaire who made his fortune as an arms dealer he pretty much checks all the boxes on the predisposed to be unlikable checklist yet fans adored Robert Downey jr. 'he's version of the character in Iron Man The Incredible Hulk movie came out the same year and featured a much more popular and well-known character and yet most people forget that movie even exists or at least they try to no small part of the universe has been built around Tony Stark and he's impacted many of the current heroes in big ways we know the people working on Marvel movies care about the content and subject matter and genuinely wanted quality content but it would be either crazy or really naive to think Disney isn't in it for the money and that's not a bad thing either it's how they can afford to keep making movies but if Tony's life has been this insanely profitable are they really going to take him away forever and gain was an important movie that concluded the infinity saga and made a Helicarrier full of cash but it was also the start of something important it introduced time-travel the multiverse and characters being reanimated after losing their lives on a large scale throwing some clones and maybe a few zombies and you've got some of the highlights of the Marvel comic universe right there as we move into phase 4 the multiverse is going to be a much bigger player Doctor Strange is getting a sequel with the tone of a horror movie and tons of over-the-top heroes like Miss Marvel are being introduced it seems like Marvel is doing more than just playing it safe they're taking more direction from the source material and we're all for it with a few exceptions like Uncle Ben most people who perish in comic books and don't stay that way for long many fans accepted Tony Stark's demise an end game because it made sense from a storytelling perspective there are so many parallels between Tony Stark and Tainos that the fate of the universe coming down to them just makes sense sure Tony didn't have ties to him like a moor in nebula but in many ways he and anos were two sides of the same coin remember back in age of Ultron when Tony confessed the events of the Avengers had left him terrified of threats he couldn't defeat on his own while Thanos was also motivated by feelings of fear and helplessness he worried people would suffer due to a lack of resources and there would be nothing he could do about it Tony wanted to shield the world from harm which is why he tried to create Ultron in the first place but Thanos is cruel and controlling viewing other life as inferior to his own he sees people as acceptable casualties when it comes to protecting the universe when the two confronted one another during infinity war Thanos said I hope they remember you and it's clear he saw something of himself in Tony having Tony then sacrificed his own life to get rid of Thanos a being who was fine with sacrificing others meet a lot of narrative sense but as we know the story isn't quite over yet according to comic book expert Professor Chris Murray heroes can be removed from the story for many reasons getting rid of a fan-favorite character is a great way to get people's attention and it allows the creative team to mix things up and explore different dynamics just think if Thanos hadn't tried to collect the Infinity stones we might never have gotten the chance to see rocket and Thor team-up now that would be a tragedy Murray also points out that many comic book storylines are cyclical and putting Tony on ice so to speak would allow him to be brought back at a later time is it possible that the reason Tony is gone is to combat the ever-present threat of superhero fatigue we know it can be hard to remember a time before superheroes were part of the mainstream but it's true in the early 2000s making movies like x-men and spider-man were considered super risky moves but when Super Heroes caught on they caught on fast and suddenly there were more caped crusaders on the big screen than some casual fans knew what to do with comic book storylines are cyclical but so are pretty much all trends Marvel Comics has struggled financially over the years and interesting comic books has waxed and waned over the years as well the whole reason Sony owns the movie rights to spider-man is because Marvel was trying to avoid going completely bankrupt Tony may have defeated the mad Titan but could it combat superhero fatigue now imagine that superhero movies take a serious dip in popularity maybe all that stuff we're excited about seeing in phase four just doesn't land and audiences lose interest hey who knows how many classic Disney movies will be unnecessarily recreated in the next few years bringing Iron Man back at that point would have a much bigger impact than if he was still part of the MCU at that time there may come a day when fans roll their eyes at the latest Marvel movie offerings but if Tony Stark comes back you know people are going to buy tickets so it's possible that Tony's endgame end isn't really his big goodbye it's just a strategic retreat until he's needed and he's done the old disappearing act many times in the comic books there was the time he sustained some serious spinal damage that left him unable to use his armor he did manage to fix his injuries but also caused some fatal neurological degeneration that would claim his life so what did he do well he pretty much faked his own end and secretly entered a cryogenic state until another scientist could come along and clean up his mess and you thought he was just a self-centered jerk in the MCU haha in the crossing Tony turns out to have been working for the evil gang to conquer the whole time the only way it can be stopped is why the Avengers trap through time to enlist the help of a 19 year old Tony ultimately current-day tony sacrificed himself to stop gang and save the day he even returned to the timeline through some prestidigitation involving a pocket dimension created by Franklin Richards and then there's Civil War 2 where Tony tips over into becoming more machine than man and becomes an AI in riri williams iron hard armor but how could Dhoni come back to the MCU naturally there's the standard way many characters come back but not really he could exist in flashbacks make appearances in prequel movies or interact with some present-day characters who travel back through time and with things getting more comic book-like in the MCU this all seems increasingly likely Thor was able to reunite with his mother during endgame even though she's been gone since Thor the dark world Loki definitely looked pretty gone during infinity war yet we saw him escape to his own show on Disney Plus during endgame and then there's the vision who lost his life not once but twice during endgame and is also gonna be on a show on Disney Plus seriously at this point it might be more surprising if Tony really doesn't ever come back he didn't even make it until the credits started rolling on endgame before coming back well kind of after the big battle against Stannis and Tony's funeral his family gathered to watch a hologram that he had prepared of himself in just in case this attempt at being proactive went over way better than all trying to save a least and drove home the fact that Tony doesn't need a human body in order to make himself heard in fact in becoming more machine than human could be the key to him coming back we know Tony left behind his protege Peter Parker a big reason any risk traveling through time in the first place was to bring Peter back and the movie spider-man far from home drove home the loss of Tony and how Spidey is struggling to fill his shoes while also living in his shadow but he isn't the only character who could benefit from some sage wisdom on superhero know-how from good old Tony Stark there are a few young superheroes that are going to be introduced to the MCU during phase 4 including Miss Marvel Kamala Khan and Hawkeye Kate Bishop many fans believe it's only a matter of time before we get a young Avengers movie and maybe one of the young heroes to join the roster will be RiRi Williams even Robert Downey jr. said he thinks Iron Heart to join the MCU as this character's replacement and you don't get much better recommendation than that if Tony comes back as an artificial intelligence it could be a simple voice acting role for our DJ voice acting is not that easy one of the reasons it's way easier to reanimate characters in the comics is because he can just draw him in instead of having to deal with an actor's busy schedule just using his voice would make this a lot easier and Robert Downey jr. sage wouldn't have an impact on his ability to take part in Marvel movies in the comics Tony ends up in a coma after going head-to-head with Captain Marvel so while he's out of commission and AI duplicate helps guide RiRi as she makes her mark as an inspiring young hero and game was definitely a high point in the MCU but we don't think Disney is willing to let it be its highest point whether it's battling superhero fatigue or just complacency it's possible Tony Stark could return to save the day and the future of the MCU there are no shortage as a fan who would love to see him return and as things get crazier and plot devices get increasingly far-fetched it seems more and more likely they say it's better to have loved and lost but we have to admit we really would love to see Tony back in the MCU at least as a hologram
