I would tell you guys what it was for but you probably wouldn't be sleeping too well tonight no need to thank me ma'am just doing my job all right folks you guys have a nice day it was nice stopping back in town it's been what 10 10 plus years I won't keep you waiting that long next time Godspeed peasants from foes more savage and you can ever imagine man I know there stay back [Music] stay back [Music] [Music] welcome back for another class guide video in today's video I'm going to be talking about a master of the wilds the Ranger if you like the idea of being a warrior of the wilderness defending the outskirts of civilization from dangers that most can't even fathom the Ranger might be the class for you I'm going to be talking about the Rangers basic class features what racial choices go well with the Ranger a Rangers special abilities in spell casting and of course some of the Ranger subclasses that will likely be presented to you as always keep in mind that we have not seen the full Ranger in baldur's gate 3 so some things are subject to change but this video should still serve as a solid foundation for understanding what this class is all about I'm going to be basing this video off the players handbook original Ranger class as some of you know a revised Ranger class was created but we're not really sure what Larian studios is going to use for Boulder's game 3 if you guys end up and joining this video please subscribe for the much more vulvas gate 3 content on the way I've done a ton of other class guides as well as many other baldur's gate 3 videos so heading to the channel and check those out if you're interested links to my Twitter and my discord server will be below let's get right into it [Music] Rangers are deadly hunters and specialized in hunting the monsters that threatened the edges of civilization their combat training is focused on techniques that are particularly useful against their favored foes they possess immense knowledge and experience for living in the wild a place that many others are scared to even step foot in the martial arts and possessing great agility are natural traits for many Rangers but they also acquire the ability to cast spells that harness nature's power Rangers can be excellent Scouts and trackers deadly damage dealers and even provide some useful party support through the variety of spells that they can learn if you had to compare a ranger to other classes you could say that they're a mix between Fighters rogues and druids let's talk about what abilities you might want to invest into with the Ranger and then we'll get into what racial choices go best with this class the most obvious ability to invest into is dexterity dexterity not only makes sense from a role-playing standpoint but it also will support the two very commonly used fighting styles for the Ranger archery and two weapon fighting which is dual wielding your next two ability scores to focus on will likely be wisdom and/or constitution wisdom will help with some spell casting but keep in mind that many Ranger spells actually support your martial abilities and wisdom will also help with perception and tracking and cool Ranger type stuff like that Constitution is not only great to help with your HP but also helps your Ranger hold their concentration for spells that require concentration after that it's really more so up to you and how you want to play strength can be nice to help with skills such as athletics intelligence can help with nature and investigation skills if you're going that route and charisma is probably commonly more of a dump stat but maybe you don't want your Ranger to be a total dud in social situations [Music] what elves can be a great choice for not only do they offer a +2 to dexterity for being an elf but you also get a +1 to wisdom the wood elf race offers some nice racial features as well such as keen senses which gives you the perception proficiency fleet of foot increases your walking speed and mask of the wild helps you hide better in the wild humans are a solid choice and if the game offers the variant human this is an excellent choice for you'll get a +1 to - ability scores of your choice and you also gain a feat and there's some great feats for the ranger halflings can make great rangers with their +2 to dexterity and more depending on which sub race you choose and they're lucky feature is great for all classes 4 it will allow you to reroll the die if you roll a 1 on an attack roll ability check are saving throw keep in mind that we don't know all the races that will be in Baldur's Gate 3 so there could be other great racial choices such as the Tabac sea and also you don't have to choose one of the races that I just mentioned now let's go over some of the Rangers general class features such as hit points and proficiencies and then we'll get into the Rangers special abilities and spell casting as a ranger you'll have hit dice of one d-10 which is definitely above average this means that you'll start with the max of 10 HP at level one and each additional level that you gain you'll either roll a 10 sided die and add the results to your current HP or if you use the fixed rate system you will add 6 HP per level don't forget that your constitution modifier will be added to your base HP upon leveling you will have proficiency and light armor medium armor and shields for weapons you'll be proficient in all weapons which is simple weapons and marshal weapons for saving throws you'll have proficiency in strength which will help you do things such as oppose a force that would physically move or bind you and you also have proficiency in dexterity saving throws which will help with dodging out of the way of harm such as dodging and unexpected trap for skills you choose 3 from animal handling athletics insight investigation nature perception stealth and survival all right let's take a look at the Rangers class chart and keep in mind that max level and baldur's gate 3 will likely be around level 10 so we're going to focus on levels 1 2:10 in this video right away at level one you'll gain favored enemy and natural explorer both of these features will be modified for baldur's gate 3 so I don't want to talk about them too much just know that for favorite enemy you will choose a type of monster or possibly monsters and be better at tracking and recalling information on that specific type of monster you may also gain a bonus to your damage rolls when fighting that monster type 4 that was added to the revised Ranger class natural Explorer will let you choose a type of terrain that you want to be an expert in giving you certain benefits while adventuring and that specific type of terrain you might be able to move faster while trying to be stealthy in that particular environment or may be difficult terrain will no longer slow you or your party down we'll have to wait and see what Larian does for these features just know that as a ranger you'll likely be well-suited for killing certain monster types and possess great skill at adventuring and certain types of terrain at level 2 you'll choose a fighting style whether it be archery defense dueling our 2 weapon fighting if you plan on being a ranged damage dealer which is great for this class you will likely want to pick up archery 4 it will give you a +2 bonus to attack roles that you make with ranged weapons your attack roles determine whether you hit or miss your target with your strike or shot in this case so choosing this fighting style will increase your chances of consistently hitting your target with ranged weapons in particular defense is probably a less common choice but it will give you a +1 bonus to your armor class while wearing armor deulim will give you a +2 to damage roles when wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapon it's not dual wielding it's dueling two weapon fighting is dual wielding though in this style or archery are probably the most powerful choices for the ranger if you prefer to be a ranger wielding two scimitars like our friend Risto Odin then you might consider this fighting style 4 you will now add your ability modifier to the damage of your second attack for those of you who don't know traditionally when you are dual wielding you will use an action to strike with your first weapon and you get to add your relating ability modifier to that strike which will likely be your dexterity to fire and then to swing with your offhand weapon you have to use a bonus action but your ability modifier will not be added to that offhand strike now it will be with the two weapon fighting style also at level two you'll gain spell casting and access to the ranger spell list if we take a look at the right side of the chart here you can see a spells known column this is telling you how many spells that you'll know pertaining to which level you are at level two you'll be able to learn two spells and when you reach level 10 you will no 6 when a ranger chooses a spell that spell is stuck with you until you level up again where you can replace it if you don't like it or have a better option Rangers do not use prepared spells like classes such as the druid does so the spells that you learn are important decisions for you cannot swap them out after long rests like other classes can to the right of the spells known column we have our spells slot per spell level chart telling us how many spell slots and of what level we'll have at her disposal spell slots are kind of like your resource pool for casting spells if you want to cast a level 3 spell you have to have a level three spell slot or higher available for use if you want to cast a level 2 spell you have to have a level to spell slot or higher available and so on at level 2 as a ranger you'll have two level 1 spell slots and at level 10 you will have for level 1 slots 3 level 2 and 2 level 3 spell slots this tells us that if the game turns out to be max level 10 as a ranger you will not be casting spells that are higher than level 3 the rangers spell casting list is smaller than many other spell casters lists because they're not a primary spell caster but they do have some great spells to choose from and many of which are shared with the druid class I'm going to go over a few of them and then we'll get into the Ranger subclass choices hunter's mark is the quintessential Ranger spell and it's a level 1 spell where you choose a creature that you can see and mystically mark it as your quarry you'll deal extra damage that target as long as the spell is active as well as some other benefits good berry is another level one spell and it will make berries appear in your hand which will restore HP there's also some other healing spells that are better than good berry I'm not going talk about that in this video spike growth is a level to spell that will create hard spikes and thorns in an area that will deal damage and slow enemy's great spell conjure animals is a level 3 spell that does as you would expect summons creatures that can fight with you in the last spell that I'll mention is a level 2 spell called pass without a trace which will create a Val of shadows and silence radiating from you masking you and your companions from detection this will give you and party members that are close enough to you a big bonus to dexterity stealth checks it's gonna be really useful for stealth missions there's many other spells to choose from and we'll see how many of these spells are actually included in the game but I would assume a good amount of them will be now on to the long-awaited Ranger archetypes which is your subclass choice I'm going to go over the two subclasses in the players handbook then I'm also going to quickly go over the subclasses and XANA thar's guide to everything because they're really damn cool and I have a feeling some of them will be included in this game like the gloom stalker first up is the hunter a subclass choice that will allow you to learn specialized techniques for fighting the threats that you face right upon choosing the subclass you will gain hunters prey which will allow you to choose one of the three features Colossus Slayer will deal extra damage to a creature that you hit that has already taken damage giant killer will let you use a reaction to attack a creature that is of a large size or larger if that creature is within 5 feet of you and hits or misses you with an attack horde breaker will let you make another attack on a different creature that is within 5 feet of the original target that you attacked this reminds me of Drizzt Do'Urden and when hordes of enemies come at him then at level 7 you will gain defensive tactic which will let you choose between three features once again escape the Horde makes opportunity attacks against you have disadvantage multi attack defense will give you an AC bonus on subsequent attacks from a creature that just hits you with an attack in steelwill will give you advantage on saving throws against being frightened if the game stretches us to level 11 as a hunter you'll be able to choose between Valley and whirlwind attack which are pretty awesome the volley basically lets you make a ranged attack at all enemies that you can see and whirlwind attack is a melee based attack that lets you attack all enemies within 5 feet of you [Music] next up is the Beastmaster subclass which is where you embody an extraordinary friendship between you and a special Beast this is a cool subclass but overall it's been deemed as underpowered in D&D let's hope that's changed for baldur's gate 3 right away at level 3 you will get rangers companion which will give you a beast companion that accompanies you on your adventures and is trained to fight as you level up at certain milestones your beast will gain new features and become more powerful you might have your Beast fight up close and personal with you or maybe you send him a head while you rain arrows on your enemies some of the beasts choices may include a wolf Panther Hawk or maybe even a snake I'll leave it at that for we will wait and see what Larian Studios does with this subclass choice all right now onto the sub classes offered in Zanna thar's guide to everything [Music] glooms stalker Rangers are hunters and Assassins of the dark you'll get dark vision and also be invisible to other creatures who have dark vision you'll gain bonuses to initiative gain an extra attack and also gain proficiency and wisdom saving throws if the game goes to level 11 you'll even be able to turn a Miss strike into another strike you'll also learn additional spells at levels 3 5 and 9 the sky self rope trick and fear this subclass is kind of like being a rogue Ranger it's really cool and powerful and those of you who like to stock in the shadows this is the subclass for you the horizon Walker subclass are Rangers that guard the world against threats that originate from other planes they are good at dealing with otherworldly magic you'll be able to sense portals step through planes deal extra force damage and possibly learn to teleport before each of your attacks to an unoccupied space you will also gain additional spells at levels 3 5 & 9 protection from evil and good misty step and haste the last subclass is called the monster slayer monster slayers have dedicated themselves to hunting down creatures of the night and wielders of grim magic this subclass kind of reminds me of garel in the witcher with this subclass you'll learn creatures vulnerabilities be able to deal extra damage to a target that you choose gain extra attack and gain extra resilience against your prey if this subclass is in the game and the game lets us get to level 11 you might even gain the ability to thwart someone else's magic so those are the Rangers subclass choices and we'll see how many of them actually make it into the game the first two that I talked about were semi confirmed to be in the game but the other three we really have no clue at this point now let's go over the remaining class features that you'll gain on your journey to level 10 at level 3 you also gain a feature called primeval awareness which is where you can use your action and expend a spell slot to sense whether certain creatures are within 1 mile of you at level 4 you'll gain an ability score improvement where you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2 or increase to ability scores of your choice by one you can also forego this option and instead take a feat and there's some great feats for the Ranger sharpshooter is a great feat for those of you who want to be ranged damage dealers and it will let you shoot your weapon and extremely long ranges without having to deal with this advantage and it will also give you a +10 to damage if you hit your target at the cost of a - 5 - your attack role so basically you have a lesser chance of hitting your target but if you do you deal insane damage statistically speaking it's worth taking at class level 5 you gain extra attack which allows you to attack twice instead of once whenever you use the attack action really good feature class level 6 and 7 are improvements to features that we talked about earlier favorite enemy and natural Explorer then at class level 8 you get another ability score improvement or your choice of a feat you also get something called land stride land stride will allow you to move through non-magical difficult terrain at the cost of no extra movement and it will also let you pass through hazardous plants without being slowed or taking damage Lance tried is a real Ranger type feature you also get advantage on saving throws against plants that are magically created or manipulated to impede movement no more getting slowed down by spells such as entangle as a ranger at this level in the final level we'll talk about in this video is class level 10 or you'll get hide in plain sight hide in plain sight will let your ranger use nature to camouflage him or herself if you have access to fresh mud dirt plants or other naturally occurring materials you can create your camouflage once you are camouflaged you can try and hide by pressing yourself up against a solid surface such as a tree or a wall and you'll get a +10 to dexterity stealth checks as long as you don't move this could be a really cool feature if Larian implements it into baldur's gate 3 the Ranger is a really cool class despite it being deemed as underpowered in D&D and I'm sure the final baldur's gate 3 Ranger will have improvements and likely be a great addition to your adventuring party I will likely play a ranger at least at some point for I gotta have wolves around for my future Baldur's Gate 3 gameplay videos thanks so much for watching guys if you guys enjoyed the video please like comment and subscribe I really
