special thanks to manscape.com for sponsoring this video oh boy the loud house made a smoothie it's funny how there's two shows on with the word house in it and i get a lot of requests to speak about them again when both shows have an incredibly emotionally charged audience well believe it or not i do not hate or even dislike the loud house and part of me watching this movie was more out of gross curiosity than any fan related reason imagine knowing that the show makes essentially the same structured episode ad nauseum and try to turn that into a 90 minute movie it's definitely not the worst movie ever but it is filled with some major issues and some minor but grim realities but i'm getting ahead of myself without exaggeration my best christmas present this year was the new performance package by manscape i was sent an all-in-one's men's grooming kit that literally has me covered from head to toe now at first being a panda and all you'd probably expect this lush fur to be self-sustainable but no even i need a good trim every once in a while first we have this lawnmower 4.0 cordless waterproof electric trimmer that feels amazing with no cuts or anything it also comes with the weed whacker which is this ear and nose hair trimmer which coming from someone who was blown away by the lawnmower i had to try it out it also comes with a crop preserver crop reviver magic mat disposable shaving mats and for a limited amount of time you get two extra gifts combined with this all-in-one lifesaver for this holiday season the shed travel bag and the manscaped anti-chafing boxer briefs which for someone who is either being active by exercising or doing a lot of errands outside or sitting on my lazy butt editing for hours at a time that's undeniably the best thing out of this kit for me and it doesn't have to be just me go to mnscpd.com alpha j show it's on the screen and use code alpha j at checkout for 20 off plus free international shipping and those two free gifts the movie starts off with what i can only describe as an origin story of the loud family papa loud also known as lin loud senior meets read aloud who works as a crossing guard they show that papa loud is a carefree bubbly individual who falls in love with rita by holding hands i guess those weird old religious people up my street is right holding hands causes pregnancies one thing that this series has avoided until now is just the sheer logistics and actual practicality of having 11 children at least 11 that we know of now i consider myself to be a regular charmer a symbol of love masculinity and indigestion but how do you look at someone and determine i'm going to have 11 kids with you never in my wildest fantasies have i ever had that kind of love now am i saying that this had to have happened at the beginning this intent no but after some point of pressing woohoo on your sim you'd have to imagine that you've done this three four five times and you're still going that there's a certain energy that you guys have that needs to be contained think about it lily is one when the show starts they're still doing this now i didn't watch every episode so maybe they covered this with a pact from the government that says they can no longer copulate but this is a different type of love that they tried to push on me oh and speaking of different this is kind of a musical yay [Music] one thing i enjoy doing when going through shows is seeing what people say about it because when it comes to a show i don't know much about or don't like that much of it's interesting to see what people see in it and oftentimes i do understand where they're coming from i feel like if you enjoy deep stories arcs or even tons of original stories the loud house would have never really satisfied you and that's not a bad thing i haven't seen every critical video on it but i do hope that people know that a lot of fans enjoy what i presume is the selling point the character dynamics each character wears their main personality trait as their outfit and they have other parts of them that mix and match in all kinds of ways that you can realistically mass produce the same episode over a hundred times and just mix up who's the main character in this situation for example if you're going to have an episode where an old friend comes back and they have to confront their past with someone that episode would be different with lucy as it would be with lori as it would be with luanne however the difference between the dynamics within the loud house and other nickelodeon shows like ryze spongebob middlemost and recent shows like that is that the selling point of those shows were not entirely reliant on seeing the characters mix and match ryze didn't tell you when the fact that you would get an episode with donnie and leo but then one with raph and mikey and then one with mikey and donny the selling point was clearly the action element combined with the franchise's legacy and new animation spongebob isn't trying to sell you on the fact that you can get an episode with spongebob and pearl and mrs puff and squidward and sandy and patrick like these things do naturally happen but if you speak to the common casual fan i don't believe that that's a common talking point the selling point was clearly the comedy same with middlemost and many other nickelodeon shows that isn't to say that the loud house isn't funny although i can understand why you might think that would be but like in game dev tycoon they allocate all their resources heavily towards these character dynamics now if you were to ask if these characters are entertaining or engaging or have enough depth no that's a completely different issue but you can see when building up the beginning of this movie they care about how each character is presented they even begin the movie with the dynamic lincoln and lily lesson number 374 breakfast burrito saturday [Music] now that you have teeth you'll want one of dad's famous breakfast burritos all to yourself really just like your sisters which means it's you against them at the table they enjoy having different pairs or even triplets of characters in the history built within them however we run into one of those minor but grim realities of riding the loud house problem number one it's rather forced i don't think a lot of people who watch regularly and call themselves a fan have a problem with it but the show does sweep a lot of things under the rug a lot and before we get to the major stuff here's a minor one so as they finish up their plan lily throws her diaper against the wall and lincoln changes it implying that he went from one room to another supposedly through this time every single loud sister has not only gotten up but gotten out of their room quietly patiently and coordinated all of their feelings to be against lincoln as laurie clearly states nice try lincoln but you're not the only one who remembered its breakfast burrito saturday to which how did they get here if i recall correctly lincoln's room is on the opposite end of the hallway from the perspective of the bathroom if lincoln and lily went there and the hallway was empty this would imply that all of the sisters are in on it not only that but we'd see that lincoln is the only one who thinks to sabotage the other members of the loud family as they're treated as one giant mush which leads us to another one of those grim realities problem two to be or not to be a character you remember that one episode of spongebob that ending scene that you probably blocked out of your memory where it was a giant mush of every single character as disturbing as that was that accurately describes the sisters sometimes they act as one giant sister where their individual opinion is irrelevant not even focus on even in places like here where it would make logical sense think about it if they were all on the same side why would they fight later on again the episode never gives off any implication that they're fighting you're just supposed to believe that once they get to the table never mind the other fact that this is another nickelodeon show where the family has to fight to be fed you'd think that everyone would be getting a burrito but apparently this ongoing tradition hasn't been updated to match the quantity of children had i may ask but jay didn't you say that the selling point of this show is the different character dynamics how would the show both have compelling character dynamics to fans but then also have the sisters act as one well this is actually a really easy answer i'd compare the writing of the loud house to like a camera you got the focus and everything outside of that focus is gonna look like it kind of just blends together they focus on lincoln and lily so everyone else kind of just acts the same even if they are technically supposed to be competing against each other and i'm assuming that they do this for clarity but it does sacrifice the legitimacy of these characters when they're all pigeonholed to be the same when you aren't looking but act different only when you need them and now this even really matters anyway because when they go down to get a burrito you can visibly see like 20 burritos so i don't even understand why they're fighting beyond this being a touching moment for lily and lincoln but i am not a monster unless we're speaking about paladins in which you'd get destroyed gigi no re but i did enjoy this scene here with lillian lincoln and i do often enjoy lincoln the most as a character often lola we need to go if you want to make it to your recital on time don't forget my science fair i had the junior mortician's death match i'm working pit crew at the racetrack don't forget my shred off you all have activities today not me i just have my fashion show that's an activity honey we're not prepared for this it's the ding dang disaster what do we do oh wow we we get to our third problem and this one's gonna be a big one and i mean this with very very little exaggeration problem number three the parents of the loud house are portrayed to be one of the worst parents ever in the history of nickelodeon within this movie i've seen many many nickelodeon shows i've seen everything from helga on the couch from hey arnold or the dynamic of robots parents and robot monster the general premise of fairly odd parents being that timmy's parents are god-awful i get it it's a bold claim to make and it will upset some people so let me be clear here they aren't awful because of malice i'm speaking purely from the functional definition of the word parent and what that would mean for a loud family especially giving their unique circumstances you see rita and lin papa and mama loud freak out when they realize the logistics of juggling around tennis activities throughout the day however they act like it's their first freaking day on the job like i'm sorry isn't lori like 17 you had 17 years to think about what it would be like to have kids with each kid adding another layer of complexity you never thought about what would happen if you would have 11 kids as i said lily was one when the show started and they still haven't learned to parent correctly now of course someone of course in good faith may bring up the argument that incompetent or stumbling parents are on grounds for being the worst ever and listen i understand that however please understand when i say functional i mean functional and i say that with the back of my uvula functionally lincoln is the parent of the loud house not rita not lynn relax everybody i got this another lesson lily it's always more important to help your family than to outsmart him all right laughs let's go go go glory go flips thanks money measuring tape thanks lincoln's guitar and soccer ball and rubber chicken thank you male sibling all right we got everything yep we're good to go now again i mean this in the functional way of being parents to be the ones who ideally take care of situations like this the only thing that the loud parents do that lincoln couldn't have done in this situation and in this movie is drive and that's only because he isn't old enough even then lincoln gives the fully functioning adults directions on where to go they can't even remember the baby sorry sweetie oh jay but it's hard to take care of 11 kids then stop putting your snicker bar in the sneaker wrapper the good that comes out of this situation at least is that we get to build up lincoln to be the true glue that holds a loud family together they show this through reinforcing the family's character traits and what their daily big activities are again when you view this from a character-driven perspective rather than a story-driven perspective a lot of this makes sense and speaking of driving and characters we get a really needed moment here as everyone is winding down from their victories they drive to their favorite food spot i'm assuming and lincoln gets his well deserved credit uh we did it thank you lincoln you sure know how to keep the old loud fam running smoothly kiddo you know what maybe i'll look too deeply into this i jumped the gun i made a quick conclusion maybe the family just had an off day and i really do care about every member of the loud family you know what maybe this is a reflection on me maybe i haven't paid attention enough to my family and i'm projecting it on to them on here and you know what i'm sorry as a critic i shouldn't jump the gun and clearly these parents are doing the best that they can and they just had a tiny hiccup and here they're able to give gratitude to the one person who saved the day so clearly they do care they wouldn't do anything that shows that they haven't learned a single life everyone hold up your trophies get my good side i only have good sides hey hey guys i want to be in the photo oh you just must be so proud of your girls aren't you they are very special haha you got pranked they didn't learn a single thing and it's extra insulting here because right before they take the photo they just acknowledge lincoln's presence within the family never mind the fact that he was right in front of them before he was smacked i guess they weren't on screen so you can confirm that the parents saw him wouldn't it have hurt the movie if lincoln was to i don't know maybe use the bathroom and then during that time the family wanted a photo and he felt insignificant because they didn't wait for him at least that doesn't insult everyone's basic line of sight tonight care about the person who helped them get the locations to win the pointless trophies in the first place so get the second song ordinary me compared to life is better loud it does pose a greater purpose within the story as lincoln has a legitimate question why does my self-worth have to be wrapped up in my achievements for me to matter i also thought the songs so far were okay i'm not the biggest fan of musicals i've never really been able to suspend my disbelief in most cases that a character would just start singing a perfectly composed song out of nowhere no one looking at him weird but it works here with lincoln questioning his position within a star-studded family he turns to clyde who tells him some of the talents that he has how about three you've read every single a savvy comic twice you're the fifth best junior magician in royal woods in that history report you wrote it was like i was at the signing of the declaration of independence oh and you can sing that's four anyone could do those things so i sit here slathered in sweet and sour sauce i'm thinking to myself if lincoln is looking for his one talent to hone in on would it not be magic i mean with the comics you know that might be way too niche and history and singing is cool too but magic right some sisters have some magical elements like lucy's teleportation but actually having an entertaining magic act could be lincoln sting which leads us to problem 4. the story only works if you believe that lincoln is handicapped and what i mean by that is not a physical disability but that if you remember the incredible feats that lincoln did i would imagine that this would create some cognitive dissonance which leads us back to problem one lincoln is talented and unique even within the loud family i understand that for this to work he'd have to have feelings of inadequacy but i feel like the writing only works here if you forget that lincoln just didn't have an event on that day so there was nothing for him to win and if you also forget that lincoln is the reason why everyone else won their trophies had he had a magic competition or even something comic related what's not to say that he wouldn't do as well through a lot of talking to clyde and learning that he's god's here with baking clyde mentions that he got a lot of inspiration and guidance through his trip to see his extended family in france given that they said that banking is in his genes clearly this is a writing error the baking isn't in the jeans it's on the table duh so lincoln has a crazy idea to drop on a random weekday from well my family is from right here in royal woods honey i'm not sure where my family's from originally why because if we knew we could take a vacation and meet our relatives if you're watching the promo material for the movie or if you saw my video about it you might have wondered exactly how they get from their current location to where the movie takes place well before we get to that you ever think about how crazy it is that they all have to use one bathroom is it more efficient that they all use the bathroom at the same time every night i mean i guess but again from a story perspective this is just one of those things that the writers have to force to work from a character perspective i understand wanting to see each character tackle the very simple fact of winding down and getting ready for bed but this scene is only here so that linking can influence everyone to take a vacation at the same time even though vacations not only cost a lot of money but how could you even find free time in the busy schedules of 11 kids plus school and work not to mention that according to today they don't even know what their schedules are sometimes the answer to that is don't think about that after finding their origins in a decent comedy scene this right here really emphasizes problems one two three and four mom dad we can make this work trust me we just gotta be a little adventurous so after figuring out that lola took all the family savings and i'm not exaggerating here lincoln gets them to scotland with like a near government federal agency international authority level coordinates when he's not even old enough to drive he's able to either fake an airport pass or get a legit one with the budget of a quarter smuggle over 10 people into a luggage area or somehow explain to me what airport would let you willingly be in a spot that has no seat belts that high up and forget the cartoon physics of not being sucked out of the airplane but the sheer balls to convince your family to skydive into a foreign land from that high up and not be detected by the way travel through multiple countries when you don't even know how to find a home with more than one bathroom coordinate with a hot air balloon to not only fly over the united kingdom but find someone in a submarine to take you the rest of the way now the movie tries to gloss over this in montage form with its third song now or never which is a good song but again it only works when you don't think about it and i choose think about it here lincoln is most likely the reason why amazon one day shipping exists when reflecting on his journey to scotland lincoln shows his skill of having a great grasp of logistics which may not be the most glamorous skill ever but it is a definition between his family being sims with no free will and being a mostly functional team so you run into problem one when you realize that for all this to happen with virtually no budget and all of it off the back of lincoln that for him to not feel valued would just be a rejection of reality it couldn't be because no one praises him because they praise him literally when they get to scotland giving him all the credit for coming up with the idea single-handedly welcome to scotland whoa yeah did it stinking way to go bro lincoln you're the man oh [Applause] but you're not supposed to value lincoln because lincoln doesn't value lincoln this is supposed to be something that anyone should have been able to do when it's clear that not even the parents are able to do what should have been a normal day for them this runs into a problem too where through making every character become so hopeless and not able to think outside of the box you blemish the perception that these are mega talented or smart characters because the decision making within the movie seems to be funneled through lincoln's will to want things take lisa getting a dna sample from her father she's able to do that but can't find a way to make more money for the trip or anyone else it's not just lisa besides debatably lilly they're all able to communicate high-level ideas to help but don't because there aren't written to and that leads into problem three where lincoln becomes the breadwinner the alpha if you wish to call him that the de facto leader and not only creating these plans in front of his parents but organizing the entire thing to begin with and influencing his sisters to come along with him so far the parents have done nothing that lincoln could not do besides drive and with this information lincoln probably could have gone just as far without a car so that leads us into the last problem problem 4 where you'd have to ignore all of this to think that lincoln has no value based solely on what the movie has provided you considering that this movie is built off of a moral you have to protect the moral with every minute of screen time or the immersion is broken that's what makes the loud house work again wouldn't have been worse if lincoln was planning things and individual loud house sisters one-upped him every step of the way like for example maybe luanne distracts the airport security with jokes while they smuggle on lucy scares some frenchmen off bikes and they take them lynn kicks a soccer ball between the train doors allowing him to squeeze in at the last minute and you know maybe lincoln tries to get the hot air balloon going but the wind pushes them off course and lisa looks at the reports and laura uses her new followers to triangulate a ship to take them the rest of the way it took me five minutes to think of that and admittedly it'd be more complex to animate but you'd have a more watchable movie if you didn't show me scenes where they do nothing but tell me how lincoln thinks that they do everything i genuinely have no nicer way to put it lincoln shouldn't feel inadequate because he's the only person that's trying in the story presented so far babe i miss you so much i hope you got my texts i sent one every hour on the hour just like you asked how's the vacay it's amazing here oh i lost you there for a sec oh i was just saying how much i love scotland babe wait you're breaking up i can't hear you babe i can't hear you i love scott fake breaking up you wait what uh yes the miscommunication trope i would be able to forgive it if it actually went anywhere in the movie because spoilers it doesn't through this time lincoln in a place he hasn't been to before guides the rest of his family through town and misses the opportunity for any other character to get some solid character development except lenny debatably with the guy named scott they like each other by the way that doesn't go anywhere either for wanting to portray lincoln as the one who needs to find an identity as pure irony in our next song this town was named for you we have angus the groundskeeper of what used to be the active royal property of the loud's ancestors explained that the town has been awaiting their arrival and are excited about their return well everyone except her but more on her in a second on a positive note the song actually isn't bad i want to care about these other characters but the story isn't written in a way for you to grasp onto anything for them the trip is for lincoln the song the family's direction everything is so lincoln cedric that the idea of him feeling empty just feels like lazy writing because it appears that he's protected as a character to not appear worthless even when the plot says that he should be i would not mind sitting here praising the parental skills of rita and lin but right after they thank their son for doing a good job they completely forget about him and that takes out anything that i would have been able to praise if i were going into this event of luna for example she didn't do anything that she hasn't done in an episode already if you're a mega fan of lewin what has she done here in these 20 minutes that have satisfied you if you enjoy the dynamic of bobby and lori wouldn't you want that side plot to be fleshed out more even if you were a fan of seeing people in love would lenny and scott really satisfy you if you have seen this movie like the only way to enjoy this movie is to not think about everything that i'm saying but if someone who cared about the growth and dynamic of these characters tended to these tiny questions and guided the story in a way that you can believe what they say not only do you have a better movie but you have a better and more natural motive to feel invested in seeing these characters grow change and react to the environment around them it feels so manufactured that you know lincoln is just going to find some arbitrary point to feel value again within the movie do my eyes deceive me why you're um loads yes i heard the song angus everyone in scotland heard the song we get introduced to the main antagonist of the movie morag morag is the caretaker of the mansion and angus is the ground's keeper together they have kept the ancestral property in tip-top shape for different reasons angus kept it clean because of the anticipation of the louds coming back morag decided to keep it clean because she lives here permanently due to the loud's ancestors not coming back now while morag's motivations within this movie lie purely in a surface level intent of wanting peace and quiet in her de facto home the movie does a good job at showing that the loud family is exactly what their last name implies loud when written to be they can be proactive risk taking messy clumsy loudmouth and that helps in building up morag to be a good antagonist with the point because from her perspective she sees them as the menace even if her morals are quite flawed but at least she has legitimate points that are believable what i'm trying to say is that angus and morag are better characters within this movie than the loud family speaking of them angus shows the royal family which just so happens to have the exact amount of sisters which each of them sharing the exact same main character trait as their counterpart which while inoffensive i really did wish it got more into the family to me i would be more excited to hear about the family because if they retained such a great reception when the louds came back surely they have a lot of great aspects about them why do each of the characters retain the exact same clothing styles why is this image taken at the exact time and ages of all these other characters these are things that if i were a fan i'd love to know because i love the show and i would love the characters but these are things that they never really get into because the family is more of a plot device than any opportunity to provide history to the canon and thus fanbase now i don't want to be too much of a negative nancy because this movie is self-aware about what i mean when it comes to empty character direction and meaningful character direction in fact they put the examples i was going to use back to back so for empty character direction would be the scene in which they have their own rooms because just like with the errands earlier in the movie it only reinforces their main personality trait while also not going over why said ancestral sisters would have the same interests i guess that's not something that's interesting to talk about however meaningful character direction happens right after lincoln learns something that apparently gives him value dig stinking the boy was the duke whatever tucks your tonsils bro hey angus what's the deal with all the dragon stuff now to me this is way more interesting than lincoln learning about being the duke for one lana believes in dragons but lin doesn't and it doesn't revolve around their core trait in fact it's so interesting that i made a chart using only their core personality trait so let's take a small break i think rita seems more practical so i don't believe her to believe in dragons however lin senior definitely believes in dragons if he locked eyes with a crossing guard and had 11 children with her laurie doesn't believe in dragons i feel like she's at the age where you lose some of that childhood wonder lenny for sure can be convinced to believe in dragons and probably enjoys the different skill patterns they have i could see luna going either way and that's not a metaphor for anything but i'll put her on the belief side luanne is tough but i put her on the not believe side because the idea of believing in dragons could be funny lin clearly doesn't lucy for sure does lana does lola doesn't lisa for sure doesn't and i want to praise the movie for not having her be on the skeptical side because again that's just playing into the science character doesn't believe in a super natural thing that ends up happening trope and then lily for sure does and i think lincoln might want to believe in it but something tells me that he wants them but he doesn't believe in them boom that's my list anywho major props for the movie for giving us something that isn't sports or mechanic or plumber related for these characters if it's proof you need take a gander at what your ancestors dragon left [Music] to me i was more entertained with this side part of the story than anything from the main course only because not only did we see a character pairing that i think works really well they both have an interesting viewpoint on the supernatural both of them i would consider to be tomboyish but one is a realist and the other has more of an imagination beyond the real world that's what i would love to see more and unfortunately the movie doesn't provide too many moments like this they find a dragon the dragon is real the dragon is cute because of course it is and again my heart isn't made out of stone lily and the dragon were adorable together [Music] uh what are you doing honey duking right in front of us you know we have our own bathrooms now [Music] okay [Music] [Applause] nice toilet paper scarf seriously pantaloons this time of year i think lincoln's gone a little pantaloony the sisters have a point he's trying to find value in himself through another boy specifically but the funny thing about it is they just tell you that the duke was special there's nothing that he's actually done lincoln just accepts that he was special and puts on his new clothes aka problem number one the story only works if lincoln is written to be pigeonholed within this narrow viewpoint where it has to be a boy it has to be a boy that looks like him and it has to be a boy that looks like him that just so happens to be the most special now again it's not like you can't write this movie to have it appear better but it would help if we at least knew about the duke or like i said earlier have lincoln actually be as useless as he's supposed to be and not protect them so much they have dinner and lily hangs out with the dragon again heart not made out of stone lincoln wants to be a duke but reality hits him with the fact that he has to be useful in order to become the duke and i will say even though it feels like he's going down a predictable path the dialogue given to him is not the worst i feel like it makes logical sense that he gets immersed into the crown because he feels like it'll give him more depth or special hook that he needs only for him to have a different perspective morag storms out of the house ranting heavily about how this is not supposed to go this way and that angus is encouraging the louds too much enough for your twaddle thanks to you flapping your gob i'm stuck with these hooligans crashing through the crowded halls dodging girls like ping pong balls just to reach the bathroom on time that's rather catch i mean in my opinion to be fair no offense but i'd really be surprised if i had the theme song of the loud house at an a when it comes to nickelodeon theme songs my ancestors have cared for this castle in peace and quiet ever since they drove away i mean the uh ever since the you know the first loud sailed away forever oh i deserve better than to be banished to your wretched hoovel we do get to see some development with morag and i do have to say that while angus is clearly the better of the two characters not just in morality but in development structurally and just overall morag just barely hits the minimum needed to become a decent to good antagonist while later she does a really good job at being more than just a weird lady who is angry at everything all the time and you can say that shows like the loud house are built for paper thin antagonists that saturday morning cartoons would scoff at regardless of how well she worked in the movie i couldn't tell you any memorable line or scene that she had where i felt like only morag could do this if this was 3d and you could do what they used to do back in the day with that one scene with grand theft auto 5 and just have different characters voice the same scene you would notice that you don't lose anything because the scene never had anything engrossing specifically to morag to begin with also please show me the scene where the loud family kicked out morag unless you're gonna tell me that the movie implies that it had the exact amount of rooms in his face that the mother said earlier could fit multiple instances of their house back in royal woods we could fit a hundred of our houses in here clearly they have more rooms because the parents also have a room somewhere that just wasn't shown on screen we also get lucy conjuring up a spirit of one of their relatives that i'll just call ghost lucy there's not any reason not to call ghost lucy ghost lucy because ghost lucy is just lucy with extra information lastly we get the scene here where multiple members of the loud family are unintentionally giving morag a hard time and i will hand it to them they fit a lot of characters in to make this point good you got that right i'm about to become the new duke oh you might want to talk more how to start polishing that crown oh i certainly will not be doing that this leads us into the next song i'm gonna beat a duke which again it isn't bad by any means it's very neat it has a good hook it's performed well however there's one very funny glaring issue with the song you see the song is about how lincoln is driven to becoming the duke and there's a very clear disconnect between angus and lincoln so it's in three parts the first part being that lincoln is doing things clearly for his own benefit angus is correcting him and then explaining that the duke shouldn't be a role that you should view in an egocentric matter but rather wholly for the people and you would expect the third part to be the correction but it's not i hear you loud and clear i have to act more sincere that's the secret for me to win cause if i do this right i'll be in the spotlight you can thank me later [Music] and i don't know if it's the fact that they need to force the song's course to make sense or if he actually flipped off angus which seems unlikely but it's just hilarious how angus is like you shouldn't be doing any of this for the spotlight and attention and lincoln goes that sign can't stop me because i can't read because guess what it works now remember this scene here when it comes to lincoln filling useless because they miss a great opportunity to have lincoln be humbled by the town and actually listen to demands and not satisfy them with the level of a vanity project it does make a bit of sense given that the collective town was excited to have the loud family back in scotland and you know what i even liked the next part where morak explains to the town that lincoln is only here for a week so they immediately lose all hope i think that's a neat way to keep the heat on her while also not fully revealing her intentions and participate in a rather non-physical way so far however angus decides that he's going to use a hundred percent of his brain with his way of cheering up lincoln take heart lad the hard part is over our people want you to be the duke now all you need to do is convince your family to move here eh easy peasy and you know what i can see the comments now oh look at the youtuber thinking that building a bridge and guiding sheep and painting and fixing signs are easy look how easy you have it speaking into a microphone for a living firstly suck my bamboo secondly i'm aware that manual labor is a very intensive task and something like building a bridge would be incredibly tough compared to other tasks i'm not denying that at all however for someone anyone with rational thought to try to convince me that doing any of those things is anywhere in the league of difficulty of convincing your 10 plus member family to reconsider their vacation into a permanent residence i'm sorry building a bridge and moving across countries no continents are both hard tasks but the latter is incredibly more difficult and you're probably thinking angus is the one who said it because he feels like convincing the town is the hard part they sing a whole song about how the town is named for the louds and it's clear that the town and everyone living in it with the perception of morag held out hope for allowed to the point where they didn't elect anyone else to be their official leader so unless angus has memory issues that makes no sense problem number one if you're saying that it should be easier because of the house well that's a story that they want me to believe sweetie we're on vacation we have a life in royal woods not to mention schools friends adoring fans we're not moving to scotland yeah uh mom's right forget it we should just enjoy our vacation and go back home to our house with one bathroom we're moving to scotland ah yes the four problems again how could i forget where did you even begin here i know this scene is needed to make the movie work but why couldn't they just ease into this why does it have to be bathrooms why couldn't you find a house with more than one bathroom if you're willing to move how come their deciding factors are so thin how come their 11 year old son or brother can convince them to do these things how come they were able to see that this was a vanity move and then went along with it so much force writing to an impressive degree every single character is willing to throw their lives away for a freaking bathroom the worst parents i've seen in my 23 years of living and lincoln is only believable here if you don't believe that he gets praised all throughout this freaking movie but you know what really really really grinds my gears about this this is all cause you want to be the duke what no it has nothing to do with it busted dude lincoln they knew they knew from the beginning that this was exclusively and only for lincoln this trip in the first place was for lincoln everything that they do all of their overall influences have been lincoln-centric then they show a montage which lazily uses the main theme to describe their new life but has two parts that really crease me number one they went from immediately smelling lincoln out for the self-centered person that he's becoming so immediately indulging in his fantasy for some vanity metric and if i recall correctly they moved here because of the bathrooms it had nothing to do with them actually believing in any way that lincoln was more than them and even if that were the case again the fact that every sister has decided that an extra bathroom was more than a life that they crafted back home really diminishes any character that you were trying to give them number two as morag explains that the louds left we get a scene where ghost lucy hears this and rushes off we then see her in the montage flying with lucy you would imagine between this time and that time that she told lucy that there was something fishy going on that would have saved about 40 minutes of the story but nope she apparently forgot between this time and when the story actually needed her to tell you see this one bothers me more because it was optional you didn't have to show ghost lucy enjoying this moment but the visual is going to make those fans who feel like this is a feel-good moment and enjoy this aesthetic really happy and you know what i don't blame you i also like the way that this looks too but once you actually think about why ghost lucy would go from concerned to empty-minded when she knows the truth it just shatters the immersion what a wretched day i wish we were out tenants but seriously cousin we have an urgent matter to discuss oh now it's urgent but it wasn't urgent enough when you were frolicking in the sky and don't get me wrong pandas can't fly but this isn't jealousy this is the difference between emphasizing your characters to the point where plot holes like this happen or having a decent movie now fortunately ghost lucy does describe how they never left willingly they were forced away by the dragon who clearly is shown to have changed their demeanor quite quickly implying mind control this is what sets off the latter half of the film and this is where i take a break and get up before i want to commit dragon i've missed me laboratory and my coffin and me scott he's from scotland will give any fan of the loud house 500 billion trillion dollars if you can adequately explain how lenny's particular comment was the grounds for a we know moment and not lisa or lucy if anything lenny's comment about scott being from scotland appears to be the only exclusive thing to this movie and would actually be the shortest trait of the three carried throughout and i guess you can make the comment that from lenny in that time period would be that way just as long in the story and would say it longer but i'm dying on the hill that all of them deserve a we know moment who doesn't know that lisa misses her lab who doesn't know that lucy misses her coffin i bet luna misses her music does luanne miss playing jokes on the citizens oh man it's like i'm a wizard with this i get that it's a minor joke within the movie but it's so immersion breaking when you're being told that this specific thing about this specific character is being portrayed too much when you've built your entire show around this it's like mcdonald's and burger king and wendy's telling you that they serve the best chicken nuggets and then starbucks says we serve the best chicken nuggets and then the other three going ah chicken nuggets they're so overdone at this point why would morag lie about your family never returning our caretaker old ackee she kept a journal that chronicled everything that happened in the castle perhaps the answer lies within its pages as we transition back over to morag we get much needed development of her character within the first half of the movie besides a few minor moments she's just a lady who puffs out her hair and gets angry head pokes out angry wash rinse repeat in the second half she shows to the audience that it was her ancestors that ended up driving the louds away by controlling the dragon and thus controlling the town this explains why the dragon egg hatched around the same time that the louds came back to scotland showing a relationship between the two existing at the same time well i do wish that we get to see more of morag's side given that i feel like it'd be an incredible opportunity to see why people become this way maybe the louds before our main characters never said thank you or forgot her birthday or maybe she lived in a poorer part of town and sworn to keep her position and being in one of the richest most elegant parts of the city and you know maybe this gem comes from the fact that it was trusted upon her to keep it safe we don't really know she is just evil because she wants peace and quiet among the loud castle and given the demographic that it hits a thin villain is okay for the audience it's just unimpressive but it is functional we also see morai crank up her manipulation on lincoln eavesdropping on his tough conversation with clyde basically clyde cries because lincoln is staying in scotland i guess none of the other sisters had any friends close one's commitment schools back in royal woods because of a singular but call me later bathroom i wanna hear all about your new super duper amazing life needs more cinnamon glide is right this movie needs more cinnamon because cinnamon is a spice we get to our next song the duchess i will be to which it's also not bad ghosts lucy and lucy confront morag knowing that she's lying and wanting the book that morag's ancestors kept however rather than confronting her there we have to blind these two even more knowing fully well that there is a book in the find that book by any means especially given that present day lucy knows that morag lied speaking of her she convinces the rest of the louds to showcase their talents within the town because all the loud sisters from the past and now have the exact same talents music fashion sport wise crackery i should also note something here while problem 2 runs rampant within the movie they have given almost every sister their time to shine at least once the varying results for example lily in the breakfast burrito which was cool lisa got her moment with getting the dna sample which was honestly a pass lana and lin got their dragon moment which was the best so far lucy was sort of like the protagonists within this which is cool luna is the catalyst that morag uses to convince the others to go into town and show off lori and bobby was kind of a thing i guess and you can see that lola got her time to shine in the beginning when it came to the bag packing scene with morag and lenny gets to love interest which is bare bones because i'm assuming the general belief is that there wasn't enough time maybe if you didn't have a song from the future duchess setting up something that took two minutes by having the exact same song explain what happened in the previous two minutes you might have some time for character development that actually matters the only person so far that hasn't really appeared to do anything is luanne so lincoln is working on magic which is rather lackluster and angus has a crazy idea no sir duke i believe it's time for you to seize the royal day and go to the village and serve your people um i think me and lil will stay here and work on our trick oh but sire the people have been waiting 400 years for their duke to make their lock a finer place well when you put it that way lil your big bro's got some important duke business to do knowing how this movie ends this movie intends to have lincoln appear as selfish as he seems and i say this because if the direction you're trying to go is to have him appear itself centered and blind to everything you would think that he would blow off angus here thinking that now that he has a crown he doesn't have to put in any of the work the crown is what makes him feel important but then they easily show a scene of him willing to help the town ruining the immersion that he would actually stand his ground and be selfish so it shouldn't be a surprise that of course all the sisters are going to outshine lincoln but not because lincoln is worthless but because lincoln is insecure after a organizing an impromptu plan to get every sister to their weekend activity b managing to get from royal woods to scotland with an impressive amount of transportation options with the budget of a quarter or less and c gaining the status of being the duke within a few days after convincing the other 12 members of his family to abandon their previous lives over a toilet and that's the problem here the movie wants to have its cake and eat it too the movie wants to show you that lincoln is selfish but never go too far in fear that link can actually appear selfish so that you still like him but he's technically in sorry selfish the movie also wants to show you that lincoln is worthless but at every moment have him be protected by his family or angus or do odd shattering tasks with ease so that you still like him but technically in story he's so worthless without the crown if he's insecure then let him be insecure if he's worthless then let him be worthless have him actually be worthless have him actually be selfish have him actually be insecure give the movie it's much needed cinnamon he's also in this weird middle where he's written quite clearly to be the most talented of the bunch but also written not to see this and be insecure and that's kind of the core problem with the movie it's not fair i'm the duke i'm supposed to be the most special out of all not stuck in your sister's shadows that's what i always say is it now hmm but there must be something we can do to put a proper spotlight on our dear duke what about that i mean morag is not like a s tier villain or anything like that but she's pretty awesome within the latter half of the movie when she isn't written to peek her head out and get mad every other minute they do a good job at bringing back the dragon at regular points within the movie so that you don't forget and speaking of forget don't forget that lincoln has parents parents that just let him ride a god damn dragon cough now i understand that within the loud house the parents take a backstory in favor for their sisters and lincoln and they used to even not show their faces but again functionally they do nothing in this movie they have never even punished lola for stealing while the parents and lincoln are not exactly at their best performance here you know what is the animation chef's kiss i love the 2.5 d here reminds me of some scenes within family guy or that one episode of milo murphy's log covered a while back the art style is amazing and i know some people had an issue with no noticeable bump in quality but i mean it's not necessarily a requirement why shouldn't this one on netflix and it shouldn't be seen as anything different than like average catastrophe or phantom planet as far as what this really is which is just an extended plot with more time to flesh things out i think they knew this wasn't going to be theatrical with the times that were in and it's not really of high priority and even so you can't polish mediocre storytelling with great animation so i don't really know what you would want here speaking of morag controls the dragon so that lincoln messes up a lot of the town while the composition here is really nice i find it hilarious that only now did they realize that riding a dragon might get lincoln hurt parents of the freaking decade here don't worry i can fix everything i'm the duke remember here watch see good as new [Music] it's okay you still have the fish shop that's a relief ah yes i would too trust greg heffley to manage our foreign affairs why would grown adults put all their trust into an 11 year old who's only been here for a day a problem one was a drinking game the vodka would have died of alcohol poisoning however this is the all is lost moment much needed within the structure in here i guess the family comes out of their blur to actually do something we want you to know that we talked about it and tomorrow we're gonna help you rebuild the town really huh you guys are the best well of course they are they're loads while i do enjoy the fact that they decide to console lincoln and angus was also here trying to cheer him up explaining that if he fixes everything maybe the town will feel better the town wants him gone and i would critique this but this is the same town that accepted him for being a duke after doing one day's worth of work so this is pretty consistent with how the town operates i wish i can get behind this part but they don't build it where are the scenes where lincoln is actually shown connecting with the town there's this song sure but that's not enough depth where's the scenes where lincoln is actually enjoying being the duke where are the scenes of lincoln actually practicing riding a dragon you can't say that they had to spread the time between sisters because they didn't the movie could have built up this scene to have a stronger impact by either having him be really helpful and connecting with the town or actually having him be utterly worthless as he says but nope he's perfect when he needs to be and awful when he needs to be everyone just plays their parts with no recollection or common sense thrown into the equation it's why lincoln decides he does not wish to be the duke anymore and it doesn't really engage me the way that it intends to like dude you only wanted to become the duke for selfish desires you are written to be blind to your amazing accomplishments which heavily shadow your sisters combined and the only person actually on screen to directly assist you with this is angus the one person lincoln throughout this movie doesn't want to listen to he doesn't listen to angus in the song or later here where he tries to get lincoln to trust him that they can fix things he never listens to the one person who actually admires him the most so why should i care that the selfish kid decides to go home i want to get behind this but why would i root for someone who was unwilling to root for himself despite accomplishing such great things well i wouldn't want this to be seen by the wrong eyes now dear aggie it's time i fulfilled my destiny [Music] gasp it cannot be old aggie betrayed us i'm not saying there needs to be a big plot twist it's the loud house the writing should be clear easy to follow the show is not known for complex writing and i'm also not saying that morag is written poorly here as i've been praising her all throughout the second half of this movie at least however the movie has given both you and me no reason to believe that ghost lucy would have taken this long to find out for any reason beyond the movie needs her to would it have hurt the movie for lucy and ghost lucy to at least not see morag as suspicious only until this point maybe ghost lucy respects morag at first until the grand reveal however you know why this is especially painful you know why this actually annoys me greatly look at this scene here you see the entire peanut gallery running except for the gothic one even if you come up with any of the vast excuses that litter defending the fact that ghost lucy could have found out earlier they literally set things up for her to spy on morag and yet they don't even after proclaiming that they have their eyes on her yet lucy is here consoling lincoln even though she wasn't seen in the town how hard would it have been to show a five second scene showing lucy or ghost lucy spying on morag seeing her do all of this stuff you could have continued this movie and have that scene in there and it would have made more sense than removing that scene why just have her appear from the top center left as if you've written her to appear at any other moment any other time problem one is a problem getting back to some of the good we see morag address the townspeople while cleverly setting up the town to feel good reading the louds that tore down the town she reels them in by saying that she will be crowned duchess angus's eyes tell a whole different story clearly he knows that she's lying and after a subtle full circle from angus forcing morag's hand down to crown lincoln to now morag forcing angus's hands down to crown herself we get the grand reveal [Applause] the louds did no such thing i was there they never gave you the crown angus is as honest as the day is long is it true morag you know what i could lie but why bother guilty as accused all people deserve better than a liar and a thief we will miss stanford imposter very well i try doing this the nice way now i'll do it my way [Music] as morag quits the charade we get to see her in her pure form which is actually quite neat i know she isn't particularly the most interesting villain even for nickelodeon standards in fact i would say she's no king poseidon i feel like for the loud house's standards this is probably as good as you're gonna get which while unfortunate it's the reality of the situation so ghost lucy explains everything and they somehow manage to smuggle most of the family off the boat without the parents realizing cough cough problem number three the loud sisters acknowledge that lincoln is always helping them but it doesn't matter in a story until lincoln says it does never has someone with so much power made to feel powerless feels so bland what isn't bland is the climax of the movie while nothing est here i feel like it gave all the sisters their well-needed time to shine i mean i guess a little bit i didn't mind anyone's contribution and i really did feel like they got the most out of them here it's a shame because they want the sisters to feel special and all they had to do was either let them outshine lincoln or let them shine with lincoln and let lincoln be humble later on problem is lincoln doesn't get to be humbled he gets protected babied sheltered as if none of this isn't quite as much of his fault as it is morag's they never adjust the fact that lincoln only wanted this entire trip for himself and was in over his head for this entire thing none of what he did here actually solves his issue and it is the fact that he saves a day that only rewards his egocentric behavior but three things here a they really let lily do her own thing to the point where she's the only one with a brain here b i say this because they look at the rubble and try to find a way out when the dragon didn't obstruct the gate they blew a hole in the wall the gate is just fine as we'll see later on [Music] and lastly c it's a good thing that all of this happened while the town evacuated oh wait they're back problem number one lincoln whom history will remember as the lowest of the loads just another man taking credit for a woman's efforts really jay that's what you wanted me to say on the video but seriously to hell with lily right i get that she's a baby but she's literally the only reason why this worked she did everything not only that but the sisters explicitly said that they would help lincoln come up with a plan not only that but they also contributed but no just lincoln right because he didn't feel special ever since we came here i wanted this crown more than anything i thought if i had it i'd finally be special like my sister's when i wore it all i cared about was what it would do for me not what i could do for you and i'm sorry for being selfish the thing is someone kept trying to tell me what it really means to wear the crown but i wouldn't listen and you know what the fact that this movie clearly had lincoln admit that he was being egocentric and not listening to angus is all fine and well however here is where we get to the root of the issue here you're also good at everything you win trophies get your pictures taken and i wanted to be special too lincoln you are special i am yeah just like how angus takes care of everyone in lock loud you take care of us i want to feel for this lincoln goes all of this way and does incredible things and the writing is clearly biased towards lincoln having all of these scenes praising lincoln along the way for him to find a meaning in the crown and not listen to anyone and think he has all this figured out but i can't i understand that lincoln needs to have moments where he helped out so the sisters can say that he actually does mean something but the specific issue that i have is that he was not only protected throughout the entire movie but anything that was negative towards lincoln was either fixed immediately like him making the town worse with short-term decisions and ego-driven fixes within the song i'm gonna be the duke or made to not be entirely his fault like the realization that morag is the true person who destroyed the town giving him no actual moment to feel worthless within the story because of his own actions and never give him the actual impact to rise up in the end after feeling said worthlessness and thus validate the fact that he actually is rather selfish and egocentric when he gets all the credit and glory for saving the day and making things right this is why i cannot buy this moral i cannot buy the moral of him being told that he's special for helping everyone and that he shouldn't have been so selfish when his selfishness is what both got him to scotland and save the day and be shown taking credit via his sisters calling his decision to crown angus the good part not angus actually being the only good person here getting any praise lincoln does not thank his sisters lincoln doesn't even thank lily lincoln doesn't acknowledge his parents at all because he is still selfish and listen some may take this as me not like in a loud house but believe it or not i see that this movie had a lot of potential and if the writing actually allowed lincoln to feel selfish or have the other characters feel the result of lincoln being selfish rather than it being so contained you would have had a stronger main character like i'm sorry if you want to have a good loud house movie that does link in justice and can attract casual fans this forced writing and sisters being a blur and parents being the worst ever and lincoln being blind all of that really needs to be fixed and this could have been one of my favorite nickelodeon movies easily [Music] look at all this potential here you see the ghosts you see scott and lenny you see all the characters here tossed aside for lincoln to go on a power trip and actually never really have to fight a battle without being protected in some way only to be told he's special this 10 to 20 second clip could have meant more to me if you actually put work into building these things however if the loud house truly wants to level up and it wants to leave a bigger impact it needs to do all of these things that it could do for free or at least for a similar price that this movie is because the heart of what makes the loud house special is the characters everyone has poop jokes so many cartoons have incredible animation or a gorgeous clean art style there are more than a few cartoons that are moral based but how many cartoons can boast a number of main characters with such a distinct core personality i'd say not as many as i can count on one hand and it almost felt like the movie works in spite of that not because of that it could work in harmony and actually build the characters whether that be with better writing or letting them fall to rise to higher heights like i don't want to sound like i'm speaking another language here there's a reason why for example spongebob went on a journey with just patrick who didn't help out all the time spongebob had to put in the effort for him to be seen as a strong hero that saved the day unfortunately for the loud house movie i fear it being labeled right at the top of passable animated movies your grandmother shoves in front of your eight-year-old niece to pass the time as she makes dinner and a loud house deserves way more than that given the success it has uh is it finally over scotland finally yeah excuse me i'm looking for a girl named lori loud can you tell me where she is [Music] no it is so in tradition just like with my sponge on a run review it's time for the three characters i like the most the three characters i disliked the most the character i felt wasn't the most consistent and the one that i felt had the biggest wasted potential so going in reverse order obviously lincoln had so much wasted potential he's such a great character who you can shape into whatever you want because he isn't bound to that much of a core personality trait that the gap between an actually great movie and whatever this was is the writing of lincoln which this movie lacks so much in as far as quality goes and it's not that it was formulaic but rather the movie never wanted lincoln to actually seem useless or actually feel the consequences of being selfish so it breaks the entire immersion the most consistent character has to be angus not only does he remain humble and appreciative of all the people that he's around his reputation for being honest of the people and a man who isn't afraid of hard work serves to be an excellent guide for lincoln and the true duke who should have been running the town as far as the worst or most disappointing characters in reverse order at 3 i think we're gonna have to go with lincoln for number three only because even with characters that didn't do much or make a grand impression such as bobby or luanne or clyde they at least didn't make things worse with as little as they contributed to the movie and i can't fault them for the lack of doing something interested as i'd much rather put someone on this list that did have time and didn't do a great job number two i'm putting both of the loud parents i don't care that they take a back seat even if you wanted them to play a minor role have them do at least the bare minimum to make this work and not only be controlled by lincoln's false fantasies and not be the type of parents to let their child convince them to stay in a different continent permanently i decided not to take the easy way out and rank them separately at number one because this may be what the kids call a hot take but i'm putting ghost lucy at number one she's the example of how forced the writing had to be in order for the movie to make the minimum amount of sense needed to feel complete she was a plot device never fleshed out but also never given sufficient reasons as to why she couldn't figure this out sooner and it really ruined the experience especially given that she was already set up for mediocrity being that she's just lucy with more information of the town and a ghost best characters i'd say morag definitely number three she was a decent to good antagonist and i thought that she was the most awesome when she was playing the subtle loud house hating caretaker i felt that her cunning manipulation of the town was more exciting than the grand reveal but that shouldn't take away from the fact that out of everyone in the movie she was developed to know something about her within the movie and be entertained i do have to dock some points when you have her admit that all she wanted was peace and quiet irrespective of the location because if that's the case why not move out of the castle if roxanne and ocean mean just as much number two oddly i'm gonna put lily maybe this is just the baby pass but she's great at the beginning she saves the day and gets no credit she's a part of a lot of cutesy moments and she plays a role best within the movie as far as the sisters go however number one unsurprisingly is angus his cheery open honest transparent hard-working attitude and his strong passion for both the town and the people in it as well as its history and a loud family is admirable and honestly lily and angus are the only ones within the movie with any actual charisma they're both written to fill any scene and film meaningful they're both written as fully fleshed out characters despite only focusing on a few things while it's better than sponge out of water it's just a decent movie it could have been a great movie if it only allowed itself to let the actual characters within it be characters and feel and react to how things are hopefully season 5 is worth the watch until then thank you so much for your time and patience and a big special thank you to tune grin for editing this video they always come through they work on a lot of rise and fall content make sure to check them out in the end card or in the description below take care elf out you
