The Great Fast Food Jalepeño Scandal

i'm here it has been many months since my first subway jalapeno stem video you see i made the first video because i got so dang sick and tired of going to a subway restaurant ordering jalapenos on my sandwich and then finding myself wading through jalapeno stem after stem after stem that i thought i had to go ahead and do my little bit of civil civil um uh duty civic duty and make a dang video about it and i thought that was fine i thought it made my little ripple my little impact you know after i put out that video subway actually released an official statement to vice news and uh here's what they said regarding the whole stem complaint we want every guest to have the best subway experience every time they order their favorite sub while the top portion of a jalapeno is a natural part of the pepper some guests may not enjoy it as much so we are working on ways to address this guy mr subway who enjoys this stem and i thought that was all well and good everybody had their fun and we could be done so i decided to stop eating that subway for many months and try some other places but wouldn't you know it as i went ahead and diversified my dietary consumption to other fast food places i started noticing the same problem all the time stem stem stem stem what the hey guy i know i'm clipping the sound figure it out so i started to realize hold on subway is not alone in this there are other perpetrators in the fast food jalapeno stem scandal so today i brought in my research i went out of my comfort zone dare i say and i enlisted the help of my brother sven johnson who is another he eats food i don't know he's got no qualifications so we went out and we bought five sandwiches all of which contain jalapenos from eight different major fast food restaurants around us and today we will determine which of these restaurants is the worst perpetrator of the jalapeno stem um i wish i had a flashy word think of a big word put it on screen ailment thing now you at home might be saying hey gus do you really think that five sandwiches from one location of potentially many locations of a single restaurant chain in north america are really indicative of the entire quality of a franchise and to that i say this guy over here copernicus over here freaking nerd trying to do research and data and crap so without further ado subway you're not off the hook yet you're in this video but let's take a look at the entire i mean eight fast food restaurant industry again i ordered from eight restaurants please this was a lot of money and i didn't want just take go look at the do a cool intro [Music] [Laughter] five items from each of these restaurants each of them have jalapenos on what we're going to do is give me that and show them that that's a burger show them the board okay oh the board sven is going to be marking on each of these restaurants how many stems we pull out of the collective five items of each of these just kind of rub the stems off when i was picking up sorry fix it okay however many stems i pull out of these little sandwiches sven's going to mark them on the board and when we get done with this little interactive activity we're going to figure out which of these restaurants sucks the most was there something on my hat is there something on your hat oh it's my hat i was like what the hell so without further ado let's rip these puppies open and see if we can go a digging for some stands just cut that out so first we're gonna start with the good old tb taco bell not tuberculosis wait what on taco bell's menu has stems on it i went and i ordered some soft tacos with a little jalapeno we are going to count the total amount of stems that comes from each of the five sandwich orders here okay taco number one oh god we're doing surgery here there is a lot of jalapenos on there right now but i'm seeing a very low amount of stem i don't know the first one if i see a single stem seriously that is all the meat of the jalapeno right there this is clean taco taco two this one's a little wet but are there any stems on here boys i don't see a g-dang stem on this freaking thing and you know what i know that we're early into this one but frankly i order taco bell two to three times a week i can't remember the last time if ever that i got a stem on him taco oh my god double homicide double homicide at least look at this i'm gonna count this one easily one stem oh my god this is a crime one two oh jesus three wait wait wait three go deep in the bowels of this one oh dude oh that's like basically if you can't see through it if there's no little holes in it that's basically that's basically stem and you know what there's a hard fibrous substance here i hate that yo yo yo that is fine that's a small one four stems in this one taco four clean as a whistle the final taco bell taco oh it's like opening an old library book oh looking pretty clean one two dude i'm not seeing any other stems in here also there's only like three jalapenos total in there so i'm seeing one two three four five chunks and this one is clean as your grandpa's lap all right i don't know who the hell just made that one landmine taco for us but taco bell would have been completely fine were it not for that one taco but we gotta count it fairly we had four total stems for tacos i feel like that's not bad that's lower than one per taco four from carl's jr we ordered a bunch of these spicy jalapeno chicken sandwiches sandwich number one oh oh what is this two stems right out the gates and then like what is this is this like a cross section that is not across it this one's oh it's all at the top there's definitely some of the time stem at the top get that back mayonnaise they just did a complete cross section of that jalapeno hate to see it one two three on the first sandwich pure stem you hate to see it pop that puppy open oh no holy defense oh my god look at this is horrible that's one clearly one i did the same crosstalk same cross section probably the cousin of the first one too and then three yuck oh my god carl sandwich three i'm expecting the worst real treasure trophy nope that's definitely stem for their definite stem one this one isn't a stem oh that is a stem one two jesus christ three god three oh my god we seeing this this is fair i'm not rounding up i wonder if carl senior would have done better i bet the dad usually will swoop in and kind of fix stuff here so one two three four five six seven eight nine oh okay i see one for sure right there this is no you know what this is the tip of the whole pepper that is borderline though this is the first clean sandwich and it's the fourth one yuck final sandwich carl okay oh it's pretty clean look at that oh oh there's a stem easily big boy stem what about this one that's a stem to be fair i'm gonna split ah nope definite stem yep base of the stem hate to see it oh my god dude this is horrible this one's throbbing off the vine still carl kill him up spent i didn't want to look at it one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve twelve at carl's jr dude i did not expect that that's some subway tier twelve del taco was the wettest bag that we received today apparently from del taco i was not able to personalize any of the tacos so i had to order cheeseburgers from del taco but they all got jalapenos on them baby i know del taco even had cheeseburgers all right pop this pup first of all that's clean saddest cheeseburger i've ever seen but the jalapenos are clean though it's clean though they're seeds and everything none on the first one don't they really call their ketchup del ketchup all right cool guys cool love it oh these are terrible hamburgers though none on there look at you can see all those cleanly wow very good okay good sandwich three oh we gotta do a little inspection on this one that's a step definite stem okay uh oh not like in this cross section easily a stem yeah easily top these are like school cafeteria cheeseburgers right here i think that that was actually a compliment relative to the quality of these these buns are like rocks how is this bag so wet uh oh oh there's a stem easily final cheeseburger oh oh ooh what's this this is ugly but it's not a stem oh that is disgusting that's gotta be a stem that's not a stem that's the tip of it these are some gross ass peppers but uh you know what i don't see a stem in this one three stems total so far del taco has the lead del taco three what do we got next fen next we have five guys got a lot of guys in this bag guys you got it all right i'm gonna kill you listen i'm just gonna say it i'm a freaking jokester okay from five guys we got some simple burgers with some penios on them now i will say these are probably gonna be the highest quality burgers that we opened today just look how this is wrapped a nice sesame seed bun this is beautiful it's a beautiful piece of beef oh oh no already whoa wait a minute that's so green these are the freshest jalapenos i've ever seen oh my god dang these are like fresh from my mama's garden i should meet my mama sometimes sven she's cool that guy came out of her yo not in front of the taco i'm anticipating no stems i feel like five guys is easily the highest quality restaurant of the ones we've had on the bottom here look at this oh that's still clean wow oh my goodness i'm not seeing a single stem on this one this one looks deceiving but it is still clean at the top let's go here oh goodness gracious what do we expect another beautiful sandwich five burgers for five guys here's number four what did we even expect it's a gorgeous burger this is now we gotta look at this one though bit of an oranger one it's weird but i don't think there's a stem there let's see the fiber i'm not seeing any fiber distinction that is a clean pepper right there zero so far zero you're gonna think this is sponsored by five guys but this is legit we ordered these all today you know what five guys i'm gonna say it right now god damn it you better pay me i'm making you guys look so freaking good right now here's a clean stray oh that's a fat mama right there oh beautiful it's a perfect score it's a perfect score wait wait gotta go to csi forensic analysis on this one oh oh could they have done the no stem order is it i don't know clean hold on here's the thing is i feel like we've called that a stem on prior burgers i feel like we have from a visual standpoint but i'm telling you i'm feeling this middle part and it is the exact same consistency as the rest of this pepper and even when i cross reference it with one of these it's the same amount of give and especially splitting it open there's no color differentiation here at all i think that's a clean pepper and now i know i want it to be a clean pepper and i'm acknowledging that but objectively also easily the healthiest looking jalapenos of all the burgers we've seen this is so green the others were so brown dare i say five guys a perfect stem score five guys none uh-uh guys get out of here go away from wendy's we got some spicy chicken sandwiches oh that's a healthy looking sandwich that's a big bird right there got a little do a little forensic work on this one take that bacon off it's looking clean oh nice so clean perfect that's a good looking sandwich guys ian kung is behind the camera right now he is the uh chef aficionado ian i'd like to know your thoughts so far did you see that this was going to be going this way i'm pretty impressed with the five guys ian todd can you speak into the spatula please oh yeah yeah yeah the five guys i'm pretty impressed with that sandwich number two from wendy's okay oh look at this terrible unacceptable that's like an entire half of a pepper right there that'll kill a man here's another one right here disgust two on number two i'm anticipating stem city usa from here on out oh oh we got some some bun breakage on this one gotta do a little bit a bit of that cadaver extraction here not liking this flat piece let's go ahead and inspect further that's a stem easily there's literally leaf on it still this is a gross looking one but that's no stem sandwich four popping this puppy open and let's take a look on the lid one easily a stem right off the bat one couple nubs in here but definitely some meaty peppers so i'm not gonna dock it uh oh final burger here oh it's clean okay wendy's four four jersey mike's baby the subway competitor they're not competitors what are you talking about pretending to be competitors no buy jersey mike's over subway be real my brother and i have come to a crossroads also look at this this is a total ripoff of the jack's pizza logo since it's 1956 same color same font somebody look up when jack's pizza was made pop this puppy open oh oh i already see a sandwich let me crack it open yet look at this one jersey mike's full name is new jersey michael i had to get that one in because i thought that'd be funny i think once you see that you're going to realize that it's not funny at all let's have the editor put in twice jersey mike's full name is new jersey michael second sandwich oh there's a banana we didn't order that what get it out of here it's a clean sandwich it smells so fresh i just want to dive right in mike third sandwich let's get in close here whoa we got nothing here pretty clean damn jersey mike's is cleaner than i thought it was gonna be good they're also only putting like four peppers on each sandwich so sandwich four oh okay no no no no no looking clean okay guys the feds are going overhead and they're big spy plants we gotta hurry with the jalapenos jersey mike's they hired a spy plane to come check us out damn it last sandwich mike oh that's a butthole of them yes them disgusting one oh no this is clean that's clean call that a stem no fiber let me do the fiber check no fiber there's no fiber oh jersey mike you guys are so light there's literally four individual jalapeno slices on this one god damn it jersey mike you had two jalapeno stems but you are on the list now a list of restaurants i'll probably still go to i'll probably still eat there just probably pick the stems out two second to last we have our arch nemesis spubby let's get all surgical here boys pop these open whoa that's clean they probably saw your first video they saw my first video they got their together oh it's so clean wait a minute even this little weird little thing oh my god there's a lot my stem it's not even connected to anything only the stem oh they didn't want they must have skipped part of the video guys it's getting too sunny we need to go push the table against the house we up the table that's wrong it's wrong it's backwards the table's backwards we're in the wrong place all right okay just open up the subway sandwiches stop my time oh that was gonna be stemming i thought so too oh my god there's ew fat boy stem right like a dinosaur disgusting two for subway this one just has eczema though i don't know if that's a step this is a terrible pepper though you should still feel bad about that one subway damn dude these subway sandwiches are cleaner than i thought they were gonna be we're only two foot longs and we have two stems that's kind of impressive given the sheer real estate of each subway sandwich too jersey mike knew it was coming they're like uh yeah we need five sandwiches all of them have jalapenos and the man just stepped he said wait that's for gus johnson up clean half wow damn i'm really unironically impressed here okay nothing on this one look at all these damn peppers there's no stem on these what happened to subway that they just changed their game plan all of a sudden i don't know they got jared out it was just kind of flushing the system you know and now they got their together oh my goodness gracious there's one i've spoken too soon there's a big fat stem you see that right there folks at home disgusting the ratio of stems to not stems is really good so far for subway it's great they might have the highest percentage now this is a stem that's stem leafing that's the that's like holly oh by gosh by golly it's time for stems and what a folly curtis you can cut that one out no curtis keep that in even more final sandwich from subway okay oh my god dude we did speak too soon look at that terrible up to five of them all right crack open that other half oh i'm scared for this other half here oh one two oh these are the worst culprits look at these also what is that orange why is that orange why is it this is bad that's not a stem oh this is like rotten it's so soft and disgusting get out of here subway seven folks we got one sandwich shop left that's jack in the box see these santa cruz that's interesting a little sourdough melt here definitely i asked for no tomatoes and no sauce though in hopes of having an easier deconstruction i can see that was not adhered to oh my god is this a stem let's be honest the entire half of the pepper oh my god they cut it like vertically yeah that's stem at the top big stem energy one what's this one oh my god two clear stem you see that little that little sphincter there oh this is a jungle of this this is having their burgers i am just wading through in here uh-oh let's cleanse that one it's clean that one fell off but it's clean let the record show oh man there's so much in here damn it jack look at this one here big step ah big stem one no that's clean oh my god they're literally cutting these vertically disgusting dude full stem on top this is looking like yep big step full stem tiny pepper big stem papa john's jack you sicken me come on jack just together oh my god dude another one i'm gonna throw up uh by the way i just picked another stem out of here oh yeah what the are you doing jack this is like a goddamn lawn ornament this is the biggest pep there's also a stem right on top christmas light bulb bro it does look like that's what i was trying to say and i said lawn ornament yeah you know we got there eventually i got there you got there oh i'm afraid to see the rest of the burger in here ah no little nub kind of skimped on the jalapenos on this one probably because they knew they were gonna put this egregious against the geneva convention jalapeno in this one one burger left not looking good already we have one two three four five six seven eight and what's the record right now eleven twelve actually twelve so jack in the box in one more sandwich could come and just from the top ropes just rko carl's junior into nowhere the patty is out i repeat the patty is out pop this puppy open i feel like i'm opening a motorola razor here uh oh oh oh no how's it looking hold on no this is a clean one clean here how's it looking we'll clean pop this over clean wow they managed to have a clean burger to close it out check it out eight all right sven the results are in the lowest amount of jalapenos per five sandwiches is how ironic five guys with zero jalapenos you'll love to see it more than anything you'd love to see it second place we have jersey mike's with two del taco three wendy's with four taco bell also with four subway with seven jack in the box with eight and carl's jr with an egregious 12 jalapenos for five sandwiches who could have seen it coming honestly if you if i would have guessed i would have assumed that the bottom two were gonna be subway and wendy's i would just guess jack-in-the-box really jack-in-the-box i'm surprised that jack-in-the-box i've had good experiences
