kept you waiting huh appreciate the patience everybody whoa shouldn't have drank Seltzer before a video okay stupid Hey appreciate you being here though because look when I was deciding how I wanted to handle this very very very very late final verdict video for Boulders Gate 3 thinking to myself okay YouTube side of me says get this thing out ASAP it's the hot game and also like this is an RPG like this is your bread and butter but at the same time time with how my content schedule was going a major focus on Starfield in August into September then a lot of reviews from September all the way to November and then a lot of holiday prep for not only this channel but my retro rebound Channel and then the game I'm working on I had a very full plate so I had this opportunity a rare one where I was like you know what going to trust the audience if this video fails it's on you not me all seriousness trust the audience and just make this video when it's ready so here we are now boulders Gate 3 done and I have to say that was one of the most spectacular RPG experiences I've had and the fact that this game is Co-op unbelievable it's on two different levels for me not only is this a pure achievement for laran laran is a team I've followed since 2014 where you can actually find a video of young Maddie without his facial hair playing a little bit of divinity original in one calling it one of the most underrated games of that year that was my introduction to them and their work and since then I've Champion their highly interactive combat system and super dense dialogue that allows a lot of role playing just by taking literally one look at balers Gate 3 you can see how far they have come technologically gameplay-wise storytelling wise it's incredible this is also a personal achievement for me I say that because I am a massive Dragon Age Origins fan I do love the Dragon Age series but I feel like they kind of went left with where they really should have gone with the series which is more of what Origins was but they did two this action game and then Inquisition was just like this hybrid game and don't get me wrong there are things I love about both those titles but I never felt like we got another game quite like Dragon Age Origins until now this is the spiritual sequel if you will to Dragon Age Origins that I have hoped for and begged for and it's here and it's marvelous so not only does my BioWare loving heart sing a bit but I'm just so happy for laring and so with that ladies and gentlemen the playthrough is done already working on playthrough 2 I know many of you are way way ahead of me welcome to the life of content creator we get a lot of perks here but we don't get a lot of time to sit down and parking on one game for long but this game just like any other larryan game I will be coming back to year after year after year after year as I always have especially with divinity original s too that tag system I was always coming back for that so with that ladies and gentlemen thank you so much for tuning in I know you've made up your mind on balers Gate 3 one way or another but hopefully you enjoy another drop in the bucket here these are my final thoughts on the game if you're new here typically our reviews are much earlier much more timely do consider subscribing if you're looking for that but anyway I got to start off with the story here balers Gate 3 was a game that I really liked for a long while of course its quality speaks for itself but lies of PE was my game of the year so I really want to tell this story of how it managed to usurp the throne from lies of p and become my personal Game of the Year obviously unsurprising giving my taste in games and how much I adore Choice Rich RPGs but the way Boulders Gate 3 gradually W me over is act one is this early access test bed if you will it's a massive Hub area full of quests and Dungeons and the amount of times I've come back to this map on repeat playthroughs and seeing just how many things I missed the first time around this is a game where you'll feel like you saw it all you feel like you missed nothing and then you'll go back in again and again and again and you'll realize just how many characters and interactions you miss the amount of permutations and bits of EXP exporation in this game is downright worth the price of admission alone but act one is this early access test bed right what I mean by that is this is where laryan was putting out the product to everyone it's probably next to act three the longest part of the game and so you'll spend about 40 to 50 hours just in this region alone questing Gathering your party making meaningful choices and really setting the table it's at this point you know okay we have this mind flare in our head we all share this similar fate of we want to get this out of our head uh but we don't really know how to or why we want to do this and do we Embrace this ilcd power like what do we want to do here and so a lot of it setting the table of who are these races who what is balder's gate what's going on in this world here and as it grows into act two that's where the story really begins there's not this True Villain appearance at all until act two which is crazy to think about you'll be 60 70 upwards of 80 hours into the game before you actually lay eyes on the villain now for some this is a problem with the game and I think it's actually a fair bit of criticism for balers Gate 3 because what happens is when the villains appear in act two I wanted so much more of them and it left me wanting in a good way because then act three they're all over the place right you get a lot of screen time with them but you just wonder what a full game of that would have been like but I think a lot of this factors into the structure of which balers Gate 3 was made in it was in this Early Access test bed for so long there were no massive narrative commitments they clearly had a Direction but it felt like that was just setting the table and that when they were ready to go like that's where they would carry things even further in act two and three nonetheless Act One massive act two pretty quick 10 15 20 hours tops and act three is like a game unto itself holy smokes it's a bit overwhelming I'll be honest but it's the good type of overwhelming cuz so many threads are being pulled you have the main villains you have your companions reaching the climax of their arcs you have the main story just heating up you have all these different side missions you're finally here this is balers gate it is it is intense but it's also as an RPG fan that hard to describe intangible feeling of knowing all these choices are blowing right past you making your hair whip back and you know that if you go back in this can go a number of different ways and while I know so much about Shadow heart and Lazelle I can't say I know a ton about characters like aerion which which I know this is a bit of a hot take but like this dude when he bit my neck overnight I was like screw you bro like I am I don't mess with Aion at all but yeah there's just so much left for me to learn with each of these characters but to see like where you meet LEL right at the very beginning of the game and to see who she becomes and how you can dictate her path right like is she going to stand with blackith or not with shadowart her very much internal battle with her loyalty to char and if this is actually what's right for her is her life being robbed from her the game asked a lot of I think smart religious-based questions and the way you can kind of direct which way these characters are going to go is a work of art it really is so just having this much power over your playthrough and basically having it be D and D the game like you're dice rolling constantly skill checking constantly you just have so many different ways to approach in this game it's unbelievable and I'm sure you've already heard that before but I could not wrap my head around the massive amount of dialogue choices that were at hand here the amount of skill checks unique ones at that sometimes because I was an elf Ranger I was able to uniquely get around situations that otherwise I would have had to fight through or would have had to go through a really tough skill check that sort of racial recognition skill recognition the game just made me and my build feel so so considered and when you combine that in a massive upgrade of production value where now you're seeing characters fully animated look at D Vin original sin 2 and then look at balers Gate 3 it's amazing that this game just doesn't look like a janking mess this close up some of these characters the facial animations so intense especially characters like LEL just scowling constantly the way they use their hands and their shoulders the gestures I don't know if people agree with this I found it very lifelike they weren't just recycling the same set of animations they all felt unique per conversation which again I've never seen before like laring to me was the masters of The Craft when it came to the role playing experience but to see them also Master like these technical challenges their first time out what a special team like let's Embrace this era because they're about to start I think a monstrous role and I cannot wait to see what's next now that's really me just whacking poetic on story and characters the game play is a whole other Beast I love how this game's not afraid to kind of confuse you and throw the whole kitchen sink your way when you're leveling up you can sit there in that menu for 10 15 minutes just reading all of those Feats which ability am I going to select which spells am I going to slot in and it took a lot of community- based learning for me I'm not afraid to take my L man I was going online and reading up people's builds I was reading what was good what was bad I think there was a utility for everything in this game so I was originally an elf Ranger Beast Master you know summoning in my my Raven my Boors my Bears and so on and so forth and it was okay but I was getting rinsed pretty quickly one ability Improvement feat later really focusing it on my decks alongside shifting over to gloomstalker combined with Rogue assassin and now I'm multiclassing doing m massive damage I have tons of bonus actions the amount of gimmick and flexibility that this class system has as someone who hasn't played DND in years it it made me so happy but so sad at the same time because I missed D and D I missed playing tabletop for so long but to have this captured in a video game World it makes me so beyond happy but also just the amount of class output there I love that I was build crafting in my head while in play through one I was like yo gu Yankee monk would be kind of sick and so I was like let me fire this up right so just the amount of gameplay options at hand here and then carrying over in meaningful ways elements from Divinity original sin 1 and two if you didn't love the combat from original sin one and two I don't know what I can tell you to get you over the hump here for balers Gate 3 I remember and we made a video on it when the game was first first unveiled oh is balers Gate 3 just another Divinity original sin 2 so funny that this was the criticism being thrown at this game's feet cuz now you look at the the praise it gets complete other end of the spectrum but I've said at the time like this isn't a horrible thing if it ends up being that way like divinity original sin 2 is a spectacular game mostly due to that combat and that tag system that lets you role play where as you make consistent choices enough times it'll mold and unlock more and more dialock options which is just spectacular into its own right but with divinity original sin 2 what they carry over into balers Gate 3 is the environmental interaction where you can for example where you can have water spilled on the ground use a lightning spell shock the whole ground uh the amount of battles are merciless at the same time though and you are going to fight some mighty uphill battles like I remember at moonrise Tower in act two I mean you are going to fight a war and it's that beautiful feeling of how am I going to get through this and yet somehow through tactics and taking your time and thinking it through you do do and I got to give kudos to the postlaunch support for balers Gate 3 I know this is a little bit after the fact but I have to review the game in the state I played it in balers Gate 3 also added epilogues in their latest update at the time of reviewing this game and to me just having that at the end of an already extremely complete story with all the fixes they did optimization wise under the hood originally when I was playing on my PC balers Gate 3 ran extremely hot where I'm talking like if I laid my hands on myal case like it was hot to the touch after all that post-launch support they really fixed that sort of stuff the game runs better it looks better I mean they added meaningful content to it all they've patched a ton of things thousands of fixes this is the time to play this game it's not one that you should Miss because from story to game play and just how much you can miss that's what makes it special for some it's a bit overwhelming but what I always tell people is great RPGs like like this are not a Sprint they're a marathon Lan's games I have replayed so many times over the course of years you could actually find even here on this channel I did a re-review of divinity original sin 2 I think it was two years after its launch in 2019 and make no mistake laran they're smart business people they'll do a definitive addition or some kind and they're going to re-release this game at least once or twice make no mistake about that bers Gate 3 will be hanging around for a long long while so settle in and just know that this is a game that you may play once and go that was overwhelming there's so much to replay here I don't think I'll ever do it but the game will call your name again and you'll come back and unlike many RPGs nowadays it's not just mild permutations it feels like laran made full use of the entire staff and set of Manpower that they had it actually made a rich replayable game where it's incredible how differently things can play out and some of the fail States in this game I'll just say uh arm man gaale if you uh take him out yeah uh quite the fail State there so you know this is one of those games where it needs to be celebrated it should be played and if you're scared about all that as you'll see in the gameplay I did all of this in full Co-op I always play laran games in Co-op while they're known for being incredible RPGs they're also some of the best co-op games ever in my opinion because you and your pals to four people can have complete agency over your playthrough now the double-edged sword is as you take in more and more party members you're losing out on the game's characters who are going to travel with you where a lot of those character-based dialogue moments can be missed out on again the beauty of it all lots of replayability here so folders Gate 3 is absolutely nothing short of spectacular and is my game of the year it managed to bump lies of P just based on my personal tastes you all know how much I love turn-based RPGs but also how it just answers the bell in so many meaningful ways so balers Gate 3 is an absolute Triumph from top to bottom and a must-play experience and one of the best RPGs I've ever played Lord help me if laran one day makes a Star Wars game or even a Sci-Fi game like if laran made a Star Wars game that would be the only thing I think that could ever Dethrone cotor for me if they touch the Star Wars game don't get me started but whatever this team is working on next as it's always been since 2014 almost decade now I will be there no matter what so with that ladies and gentlemen I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on balers Gate 3 has this video if you've been sitting on the fence long enough now encourage you to make the leap have you already played balers Gate 3 if so let me know your thoughts down below did you not like it that much always interested in hearing that feedback fire away with that take excellent care of yourselves and I will see you next time around stay sexy stay active I love you all peace
