ladies and gentlemen it is time to build ourselves an RTX 4060 gaming PC and I want this to be an affordable build that pretty much anyone can get their hands on and start playing some awesome PC games I think we're going to go with a little spoiler alert early here so editor Carl what is the total price of this gaming PC huh pretty reasonable throughout this video we're going to go through all of the parts what they do how they impact the system what's great what could maybe be improved and of course show you just how easy it is to actually put everything together and show you those all important gameplay Benchmark numbers so you know exactly how well this thing performs and yes don't worry we will be addressing the elephant in the room is the RTX 4060 actually worth buying let me explain right after a short word from this video sponsor corsair's IQ link is here to revolutionize your gaming PC this brand new ecosystem stops cable clutter in its tracks with interconnecting components removing the need for Endless cables and giving you more control of your PC than ever before grab some interlocking QX RGB fans for dual light Loop Beauty an h150i IQ link cooler for Next Level CPU thermals and connect up to our whopping 14 devices to a single IQ system Hub learn more today with the link down below and if I'm completely honest the reason we're not calling this a budget friendly gaming system is because the last video I did was called a budget friendly gaming PC and I am basically a walking thesaurus we need to use different words but yes this is a more budget friendly system and the way that we're actually going to be achieving this today is by going for CRX which means we can have a smaller size chassis that's usually a fair bit cheaper a smaller motherboard that again is a little bit cheaper but fundamentally we're actually going for Intel this time when we're going for the very popular 12400 F CPU this comes in at around about 150 the performance is very similar to the newer 13400 F but that's 33% more money and the frame rates aren't going to be drastically different in terms of the motherboard that we're using you can't overclock this but you can't overclock the CPU either oh what is this I was mid sentence and bloody Geeks calling me what's up mate you probably can't put this on the video I don't have particularly good news for you with regards to all right it's bad news that's it it's out it's out you will never know the mystery of James gatt's life anyway back to the video the motherboard that we're using here is the b760 m steel Legend Wi-Fi this is quite a good one actually cuz it work with a white case or a black case and as I remove this from this very loud anti-static bag you'll see that it is actually a very attractive motherboard but crucially the price point of this is r 50160 of dollars at the time of filming and it does also have Wi-Fi so you're not going to need an adapter card or an Ethernet Jack near your PC that over 50% of people will utilize fun fact for you so pop your board on top of the box ready to build and then you can proceed to pick up your CPU and this does come with a cooler inside the box that you could use if you do want to save money let us pop the top on our CPU socket grab our six core CPU and we will then drop this down into place be careful not to damage anything cuz this will completely ruin your motherboard or potentially your CPU they are more robust but they're not indestructible and I will explain that while it's a six core CPU this is still going to be fantastic for gaming four is a little bit too tight eight is definitely better but anything over eight cores doesn't really make too much difference but you should be aware that with the Intel side of things you have performance CES and efficiency CES and this is the main difference actually between the 12400 and the 13400 if you go for the 13400 you do get a few extra efficiency Calles that's going to be great if you want to do a bit of multitasking on the side but the problem I have with that CPU is that it's the same price point is than the ryzen 7600 which is just a better allround CPU for gaming and then you get am5 it's more future proof you can upgrade to like a new AMD CPU in a few years time whereas while this is still upgradeable because you can go for like a i7 or an I9 in a couple of years time Buy on the used Market save yourself a bunch of money obviously it's not as future proof when you're limited to 12 13 or 14th gen CPUs Oh Marcus Marcus Marcus you're about to complain weren't you that this is a ddr4 motherboard and then turns out it is a ddr5 motherboard but I've put the box here now so you've seen it I can't pretend like this didn't happen DDR 5 is better it's more future proof I'm a fan of it unless you already have DDR 4 and you're upgrading but we didn't need to worry this is a ddr5 motherboard yes why can't I get this the right way round I've done this so many times it's like a USB flash drive are you joking this is ddr4 oh that would explain it wouldn't it and the emergency backup kit that we're going to use today is is actually not RGB I'm doing this deliberately cuz then it will match our cooler this is some Vengeance ddr5 this is a slightly older kit actually so this one is running at 5200 MHz but I'll leave links to some faster kits because there's not really any reason to sort of go for this speed anymore when there's not that much difference in price this is a 32 GB kit that definitely isn't essential but it is going to give you better longevity especially in the most recent games that are going to get more and more demanding in terms of our SSD storage we're going for the more budget friend the option this is a Samsung 980 this is a 500 gig one that is an absolute solid choice if you don't have many games but I would advise that you get a terabyte because there's not actually too much difference in price and it should perform slightly better as well it's very easy to install just remove the screws on this m.2 cover if you do have a protective film make sure you remove it grab your SSD line it up with the slot and then replace the cover and screw it back down at this stage our board is looking pretty darn fine but it's about to get a whole lot bigger as we install our CPU cool and the main reason really that you will want to upgrade this is just for noise as I say that stock cooler definitely gets a little bit loud and if you're going to have lower temp temperatures it might mean that your CPU lasts longer as well and some people definitely prefer the look this is one from deepcool this is the ak400 you can buy larger Siz ones but it's not really worth it for this CPU as it doesn't use masses of power installation is pretty straightforward just grab your board and line up this little back plate feeding the screws through place this down on top of your box and then sort of slide it back where it was grab our 1700 spaces and just lay these over the holes grab the large mounting bracket and then just lay this over the top drop in the screws and screw this into place if it's not really pre-applied then add a little bit of thermal paste to the middle you will need to remove your fan from your cooler and then you can just line this up screw it down carefully trying to make sure you have equal force on both sides so start left then go right left right left right pretend you're in the Army then you just need to grab your fan replace this just by hooking it over grab your fan cable and then just gently plug plug this in to one that says CPU fan and if you can't already tell we are now pretty much all ready to rock and roll we just need to put this inside our chassis and yes some of you may recognize this from the build we did last where I forgot that this was microatx and we needed a Micro ATX motherboard so we're going again this is the caller Master q300l V2 so I still think at the time of filming this one is a little bit too expensive but I know that if you're watching this in a few months maybe even in a year then this is probably around about the 4045 5 Mark especially if you can get it on sale at which point it will definitely be worth considering I'm hoping that this is going to be a little bit better than the original that I did like but did lack a little bit of cable management so let's see how we get on let's lay our chassis down on our table though shall we and Eagle eyed viewers will already notice that our standoffs are pre-applied and as we have a motherboard that has an IO Shield pre-attached we don't need to do anything else we can literally just lower this down so that it populates that big hole at the back and we line up all of those standoffs with the screw so let's screw this down into position whoo whoa whoa hang on a second I've just noticed something actually believe it or not I am a man that learns from my mistakes and this is a chassis that doesn't actually have removable PCI slot covers or I should say replaceable PCI slot covers instead you are going to have to bend them out and this is going to be a lot better to do now rather than once your motherboard is in the chassis cuz it gets a lot harder to do it without risking damaging your Hardware so we just push these out being ultra careful not to hurt yourself cuz you can get a little bit of sharp metal I really don't like these this is again why I think 60 quid for this is just a bit too steep if it was 40 then I think this would be a steal but 50% more money than I think it's worth is quite a lot while we're here I also grabbed this fan cable and plug this in next to our CPU we give this a spin and then start to work on the cables the other side there's not actually too many here we do have USB type-c I believe on this case we've got two USB 3 one USBC and then this headphone microphone combo Jack it is very straightforward to get these plugged in just feed them through to the other side in their respective positions and then you can start to connect them so we've got USBC and then our USB 3 the front panel connection is at the bottom right one nice big block on the chassis then we have front panel audio at the bottom left well it's so far so good actually but I think as soon as we insert the power supply things will change so let's get that bit done now and the power supply that we're going for here isn't actually of a particular High wattage it is more than we need 650 Watts but I will always say if you're going to consider upgrading to a better graphics card in the future then for the sake of like 1020 it does save you buying a whole new power supply and 650 WS is going to give you plenty of upgrade room this exact one is from Nel XT it's called the c650 bronze and crucially this is a semi modular power supply which is really important especially in this chassis because it means that you don't actually need to plug all of the cables in it's semi modular because the ones that you're definitely going to use are pre-attached which save you some money but all of this extra bulk that you won't use you don't actually need to use so it looks as if there's a bracket to remove from the rear of the chassis which there is we can then take this out place over the power supply screw down into position and then assuming everything has gone to plan we can just line this up with our back plate I mean normally I'd say fan facing downwards but actually if you do want to have the fan as an exhaust cuz it will pick up the heat from your graphics cards and Chuck out the back that's not necessarily a bad idea because we're not adding any extra fans today and the 4060 doesn't really use that much power so actually that might be sensible I don't know let me know your thoughts on this down in the comments below there is a huge gaping hole here for all of these cables to rout through which is good and to be fair that actually looks pretty clean if it is going to stay that way so let's grab our CPU cable look and feed it around the back you do have two eight pins but you do only need to use one of these especially with this CPU it' be pointless to plug both in oh I think we got it I think we got it yes large ATX is at the top right then actually the PCI for the graphics card can just sit here for now and I'm going to hold my hands up and say I was wrong assuming you have the components we have here actually Cable Management really really easy it looks quite nice and neat you've got loads of room for a radiator at the front or of course just some standard fans then around the back as long as you are willing to use the cable ties I don't think you're going to have too much of a problem I mean this is the one we haven't plugged in yet but look actually surprisingly not too bad and there is quite a lot of room here nice amount of thickness to Stow the cables so for what didn't look like the best cable management actually it's all right it's okay but let us move on to the final and probably the most important component the graphics card and as we've been saying I'm an honest person so I will explain the reason we're using a 4060 primarily is because I wanted to get those that are interested in the 4060 to watch this bit where we talk about it because this is not a bad product by any stretch of the imagination but it does have a couple of things that you do need to be aware of firstly the performance of this is very similar to amd's 7600 which can be found for usually about 40 to 50 less and that product is also very similar to the 60650 XT which can also be found at the time of filming for slightly less it only has 8 GB of vram which to be clear is still fine in most games especially at 1080p but in newer titles and anything where you want to play at 1440p or above it is going to be a limitation now and into the future and then you do also have all of the exclusive Nvidia features which would be the main reason for buying this over one from AMD but the problem is at the lower end you might start to run into latency issues if you're going to use DSS uh 3.5 so the frame generation feature of this but we're experiment as we go throughout this video this exact GPU we have is the pallet jaw this is definitely one of the better value offerings that are on the table as always we have a very loud static bag and then what is a very lightweight GPU which twoo large fans this isn't going to make much noise it's not going to use too much power it's got an eight pin rather than that new 12vt high power connection so we don't need adapters or anything but let's get this in our Rick I think we need to remove this little back plate first then we can pick up our GPU line it up with our top slot give it a nice little push home normally get a click that actually wasn't very satisfying there it's like the case absorbed it that was my favorite bit there we can put our back plate back screw the card into position grab our PCI connection and then just gently push this into the card until that clicks into place tidy up our cable with a cable tie and then there we have our completed rig and honestly halfway through the rig I was kind of like I'm not sure how this is going to turn out but suddenly it's come out really nice and neat and tidy but I think this is actually really smart it's small it's lightweight it's going to be very powerful and it's also going to be very power efficient and of course it's not just the completed build you're going to be impressed with when you grab yourself your very own PC Centric mouse mat link is down below okay then this is it Moment of Truth again not crazy Mount of RGB but actually there is some on the motherboard we've got this nice White Strip on the GPU but otherwise it's pretty understated this isn't ayen build so hopefully it shouldn't take too long to do its first and initial boot oh oh oh oh told you there was me looking around for a keyboard where is it oh it's there it was behind me the whole time oh and we're in Windows as well which is pretty convenient is isn't it I mean it'd be nice if every new build did that but alas no if you do want to learn how to install Windows by the way I've done a full video guide you can find that in the top R corner of your screen I mean I was going to show you how to enable XMP but it's currently doing Windows update so instead I'll show you just how quiet the system is like genuinely the only thing I can hear here is actually the power supply and how rare is that but let's waste absolutely no more time and actually jump straight into the games because yes through the power of editing we are now all set up and ready to go and let us begin with everyone's favorite some fortnite I say everyone's favorite I mean I think a lot of people probably prefer war zone but actually this is something I'm really trying to get back into cuz I really do enjoy it and we're currently running this at 1440p not 1080p this is with DSS set to Quality High settings across the board other than Lumen that is disabled and as you can see we're pretty much getting a really really nice frame rate actually this is the high refresh dream of around about 130 to 40 FPS yes obviously this isn't the absolute fastest that you can get but realistically this is still the sweet spot I think for most Gamers and especially at 1440p as well you're very much able to have your cake and eat it let's quickly turn this down to 1080p though cuz I really don't want to ruin this game and as we get ourselves into a firefight you can clearly see that our frame rate has increased it's not gone up as dramatically as you perhaps could expect but I think some of this is going to be down to CPU bottlenecking potentially as he gets another kill I mean our utilization though is still at 98% but you can see that there are dips every now and then into the '90s maybe the high 8s so yes if you were to play fortnite exclusively at 1080p then a better CPU could help but I'd still say that this is kind of well balanced really because you're always going to be bottlenecked by something and as long as those two products are quite similar and you don't have like a dramatic difference between the two then yeah all round I think pretty well balanced oh no no no no no no no no no no oh I told you I told you no I honestly thought I was going to do that I've let the side down next game and the game in question is my favorite that I've played over the last year some returnal I was thinking that the best RT game was actually going to be the most recently released Allen wake I really enjoyed playing it all the way through but I actually think that the final boss was a bit me and it left me wanting a bit more and I think all in all I actually got more out of returnal than Alan Wake besides this is probably on sale now so you can pick it up for cheaper and I will say that this is not a path Trace game so it makes it a whole lot easier to run what we have here at the moment is the game running without any rate racing this is running at 1440p DSS set to Quality and everything else pretty much across the board set to high and this is a fantastic way to play this game it feels really smooth we're getting about 93 frames a second you can see from our frame time graph that we're not really getting any stutter or bugginess or anything like that and the whole game feels nice and responsive I mean this is going to be a brilliant way to play what is a brilliant game the thing is though this genuinely is one of those titles that is properly enhanced if you do run it with rate tracing so let's see what happens if we turn this on it's more about the reflections because when you get fighting bosses and things it's it's crazy the amount of particle effects that are going on and it really does look incredible but are we going to be able to actually run this so at the moment we don't have any rracing on let's turn R Trace Reflections and shadows both to low and we will see what that does to the smoothness and the frame rate and actually surprisingly it's not made too much of a difference our frame rate is still well above 60 this is probably a game you'll be playing with a controller anyway and as you can see we're now at about 80 frames a second I imagine that we will probably get nearer the 60 FPS Mark when we are fighting bosses and it does get properly intense but actually that's not too bad at all interestingly enough as well this is also one of those titles that does support dss3 frame generation when I first tested this I couldn't get it to work on quite a few PCS it went a little bit weird but actually here it does seem to have fixed itself maybe this is like a recent patch or Nvidia driver update or something and you can now see that our frame rate has gone back up to near the 100 FPS Mark the only thing I will say is that this is a game that does require very quick reaction times and obviously it's not like true FPS it's essentially like frame smoothing by adding these frames in between rendered frames but we're not really suffering a huge latency penalty here it's not something that I can particularly notice and this is one of those game that is so so dependent on latency that actually it's showing off the Nvidia Hardware pretty well here out of Interest what happens if we turn this down to 1080P and then increase the rate racing to the max well as you might expect our frame rate has increased but it's actually gone up by more than I would have thought we're currently sitting about 130 FPS with frame gen still enabled so yes if you do want to play return all this is a fantastic system to do it on from a big envidia title though to a Monumental one from AMD let's check out some Starfield an interesting interestingly enough what you can see here is actually running at 4K High settings but with dlss set to Performance because yes dlss is now actually finally in Starfield and this is a surprisingly good experience from what actually isn't meant to be a 4K graphics card at all I mean don't forget you could potentially run into vram issues but at the moment we're only using about 5,247 Meg so there is a little bit of room to go here as we get ourselves into a fire fight do need to get this scene but I'll be honest I I just don't think Starfield is my sort of game cuz I put a few hours into it and I've just not had that energy that real storyline to keep me going I think I prefer other types of games if I'm honest but I can definitely appreciate it turn the resolution down to 1440p though and as you can see you will get a much higher frame rate we're now currently looking at around about 90 FPS and I will also note that we have adjusted our dlss to the Quality setting so this is a fantastic looking game and it's one that you will easily be able to play even at High settings without any real fuss at all it will depend where and when you are in the title but this is definitely a case of so far so good but that's enough single player for one day let's jump back into our multiplayer with some Apex Legends and what you're seeing here as we descend onto the floor is actually running at 4K resolution no DSS FSR xss or anything like that here and we've got this just under maximum settings it's only Sunspot detail that's set to high rather than very high and as you can see we're still getting a pretty d impressive frame rate of around about 70 to 80 FPS at 4K a resolution that we're not factored in at all when choosing this GPU having now turned it down to 1440p you can see that our frame rate isn't that far off double actually around about 150 FPS which is a lot more like it definitely the way I would choose to play and once again this is another one of those titles where even if you have a full in 40p high refresh rate monitor you don't really need more of a PC than this especially if you are playing something like Apex Legends as you are consistently going to get very smooth and very high frame rates I mean the thing I find particularly wild about all of this is that it was only a few years ago that we were saying oh don't go for like a high refresh rate monitor 240 HZ cuz you're going to need such a beastly PC to actually be able to achieve that whereas clearly at the moment you are able to do that now on more more of a budget friendly system it's always when I start talking of course with this lower end CPU there is always the risk of running some CPU bottlenecking spectating this we are still getting around about 98 99% GPU utilization so if there is going to be some bottlenecking we're not seeing it at the moment so I'd say all in all pretty impressive and I think I have to say it on the whole this system has surprised me it's not necessarily the thing that I thought was going to blow us all away but it's just so neat and tidy it's so quiet energy efficient it's very understated but what it puts out is almost more than the Su of its parts I'm really really impressed with just what you can get for this sort of price point and actually despite the fact that the case maybe could be improved with like a little bit more quality and maybe some better Cable Management if these are the components you're going to put inside this I don't actually have any complaints with it at all other than the price if this was £40 it would be a steal but at the RP as I say it is a little bit steep but I'd love to hear your thoughts on this what do you make of our system what do you like what do you dislike what would you change would you go for a 4060 or do you think it's a waste of money and should get something else
