hello today i'm going to answer one of the frequently asked questions what is the difference between a classic ak-47 and kalashnikov ak-103 first of all a little bit of history ak-47 went into mass production in 1949 and until 1959 the first generation of a case was produced in izhavsk at what now is a kalashnikov factory since 1959 to 1970s the second generation of kalashnikov was produced it was akm weapons just like this one from 1974 until now the third generation of kalashnikov is being produced it's ak-74 and ak-74m looks roughly the same but it uses a small caliber high velocity 545 round and then we have a fourth generation of a case so-called ak-100 series and the most famous representative of ak-100 series is ak-103 so we have to understand that we are basically comparing the first generation to the fourth generation and it's been over 70 years of constant development testing and every day our factory is trying to make our weapon better more reliable more durable so let's go into some details and see what the actual difference is first of all we have to look at the muzzle device keep in mind that the standard a case didn't have any type of muzzle device until 1965 and even after 1965 for a long time a standard and very primitive slant break was used in this particular case on ak-103 we're talking about a hybrid device it is a muzzle brake compensator and flesh hider so it minimizes the flash reduces the muzzle climb and felt recoil when experienced shooter is shooting ak-103 most of the time you can't see any muzzle time at all with this hybrid muzzle device you tame the recoil almost to the level of 556 but you retain the power and the penetrating capabilities of 762x39 one of the major differences between ak-47 and k103 is the technology of barrel production on the ak-47 and akm button rifling was used which is a very popular traditional way to manufacture barrels and make the rifling inside the barrel for ak-103 different barrel manufacturing process is used it's cold hammer forging which is right now is basically an industry standard all over europe us and it's also the method that in our opinion gives us the greatest productivity and the precision measurements of the barrel coat hammer forging ensures excellent dimensional accuracy and surface quality also because the barrel is forged at the end of this process you have a better grain structure of the metal which makes the barrel more durable and multiple tests that we did always show that the quality of the barrels is very high for example one of the tests that we did was shooting 1400 rounds continuously one thousand four hundred rounds it's more than a lot of machine guns can take but the barrel of ek-103 never gave up and the weapon kept shooting the chrome lining inside the bore ensures that the barrel will never rust even if the soldier is unable to clean and maintain it according to the manual the next feature we need to look at is the polymer hang guard just like pistol grip and stock on ak-103 it's made out of glass-filled polymer so compared to the wooden handguard that we're more used to on ak-47 this particular hang guard it doesn't crack it doesn't catch on fire when you're shooting a lot it doesn't shrink after being submerged into water including salt water it's lighter it's more durable another feature of this new hangar is a special heat shield that makes sure that the shooter is not going to burn his hand when he has to shoot in full auto a lot also if you want to mount accessories on your handguard we can provide a version of the hang guard with one picatinny on the right side and one on the bottom so you can mount flashlights bipods additional grips and lasers the next big change is a polymer magazine unlike metal magazines of the previous generations the polymer magazine is lighter and more reliable on a metal magazine you can get a almost invisible dent that would actually stop the follower and create a stoppage on the polymer magazine you can't really crack it you can't really make a small indentation inside so apart from being lighter and more reliable it also doesn't heat very much on the sun because in warmer climates particularly in the middle east and africa the metal magazines often get so hot you can't even grab them that doesn't really happen with polymer magazine we have to keep in mind that ak-103 is compatible with previous generation of the magazines so if you already have metal ak magazines you can easily use them with ak-103 without any problems another factor that we have to think about is the finish of the weapon old ak-47s were mostly blued which is a nice looking finish but it's not very durable with ak-10 we're using a modern finish that has been tested in every possible environment we create an entire process to make sure that this finish will be just as durable as this weapon is and the weapon wouldn't get rusty in a humid environment in the sea in the jungle in the desert another small but important feature we need to look at is a side rail most ak-47s and akms didn't have any kind of rail for the optics but every ak-103 comes with a side rail all you need to mount an optic is a side mount that we can provide and with a side mount you can have a red dot sight or reflex optic you can have an optical scope you can have night vision or thermal imaging equipment also side rail is a very reliable way to mount optics you can put it on take it off and you won't have to re-zero the weapon the next feature we need to look at is a folding stock all ak-103s have a folding stock that folds to the left side to open it you just need to push this little button so it retains the uh same shape of the stock that people are used to but when you're transporting a weapon if it's in a vehicle if it's in the tank or armored personal carrier maybe in free fighting vehicle or a speed boat you can always fold it to the left side making the weapon more compact but even with a folded stock the weapon remains fully functional you can still operate the safety you can charge it you can unload it so the stock does not interfere with the normal function called the weapon just like pistol grip and hangar the stock is made out of glass-filled polymer it's much more reliable compared to the wooden stock it doesn't crack it doesn't really break we did all kinds of drop tests dropping this weapon on concrete from different heights and this particular polymer buttstock was always the most reliable option we could find compared to ak-47 variants manufactured from 1949 to 1959 ak-103 is significantly lighter there is nothing unnecessary about this weapon so any soldier could use it so for its caliber it's pretty lightweight for ak-103 we're also offering gp-34 under-barrel grain launcher caliber is 40 millimeters it mounts here under the barrel and you can engage targets with grenades up to 400 meters overall ak-103 is a very good basic rifle reliable in every possible environment accurate dependable and very durable ak-103 continues the legacy of kalashnikov and combines legendary reliability with the features necessary for a modern infantry rifle you
