blood of Zeus has dropped its second season after years of fans waiting and it's a gift to all of us who love mythology while season 1 focused largely on a supposed new myth in Greek's History season 2 Dives deeper into the existing stories from Greece and even Beyond this video will go heavily into spoiler territories breaking down the Nuance of how these genius writers adapted so many different myths into one esoteric narrative my name is De cut subscribe if you love cartoons and deep mythological breakdowns and let's jump in season 1 of blood of Zeus focused on a new character created for the show named Heron Heron lived a poor human life before one day learning that he is actually a child of the Greek God Zeus ruler of Olympus Zeus is well known in Greek mythology for having many children by different goddesses Mortals and divine beings in between Heron's story is is a composite of those many characters and many of those characters themselves are just variations of the same story with different Nuance in their unique metaphorical perspectives and applications the most obvious similarities come from the various Traditions surrounding Heracles who we often know by his Roman name Hercules here in the west Heracles name means glory to Hera the name of Zeus's wife but also the word for hero from which we also get our main character's name heron the earliest Works to talk about Heracles are the homeric hymns to the gods and the works of hesiod such as theoy and the catalog of women the homeric hymn to Heracles explains that he's the son of Zeus and a mortal woman named Aline Aline is the name found in various facets of Greek history often overlapping with Gods as is the case with this Heracles narrative in the fragments we have for hesiod's catalog of women she is mentioned as being the descendant of an important Royal line in the history of the Greeks like with Heron later versions of the Heracles story would have Zeus disguising himself as aline's husband in order to seduce her Heron had to be hidden away so that Hera the wife of Zeus could not kill him to get revenge on Zeus for his infidelity this is a common theme in Greek mythology which is best explained with hesiod's theoy Theos means god and the Jenny means generation so theoy literally means genealogy of the Gods this text reads similar to the early portions of the Bible with there being key narratives about the origins of divinity and Humanity separated by extensive genealogies the key difference of course is that in Judaism the Book of Genesis presents the characters as Patriarchs and the Greeks present these same characters as gods in both cases these characters represented tribes of humans the same way the story of Athena represented the founding of Athens and the story of Aries represents the people of of Sparta both being the Children of Zeus who represented the greater world that most younger gods were born from while theoy and Genesis do have some overlaps with their gods and patriarch characters they mostly reflect the local tribal regions in their own history and the historical Wars of previous cultures that they were caught in the middle of each reflecting how it affected their own region but having very similar key points in this genealogy of the Gods Zeus's Legends of impregnating different figures are all lined up in one narrative each really just representing the will of God leading to the creation of various peoples in one way or another across the Greek Land for Athena she is said to Simply have been born out of Zeus's head reflecting how Athens saw themselves as simply growing out of Greece as the intellectual class these were all unique origin stories for different Greek tribes that were sewn together into this one genealogy making Zeus appear like one figure who was constantly sleeping around this even before the writing of theoy led to the idea that Zeus's wife Hera had an antagonistic relationship with Zeus and Heracles in particular who was produced by Zeus with a mortal after he had finally settled into his marriage with Hera Zeus became a figure that as a chief God reflected the nature of the universe itself the will for humans to come into existence Hera reflected the struggles they face the desires of the universe to seemingly destroy what it had created with Heracles representing the human who were trapped in the middle of that struggle in theoy for instance Hera is presented as nursing the Hydra that Heracles has to fight because she is peeved with Heracles as it says now in Blood of Zeus hara's anger with Zeus for these various Affairs has led her to want the ultimate Revenge to release one of the Great and Mighty foes of the past the Giants season 1 ended with Haron rising to the challenge and joining his father in the battle against the revived Giants where Zeus unfortunately died using his power to to save Hera and an attempt to make up for all of his infidelity Heron meanwhile was pitted against his twin brother sarapin who is his own rabbit hole that we will be exploring later in the video now Heron's story in season 1 felt familiar but was ultimately unique with its original characters season 2 did end up adding more familiar Greek Legends to the mix but Heron's Journey continued with him being taught that he may be some sort of prophecied Savior figure the idea of a savior figure as the son of Zeus or a descendant of Zeus has its roots in one of the brief mentions of Heracles in theogony theoy itself outside of the genealogies and earlier Wars is much more so about the conflict between Zeus and Prometheus but Heracles becomes an important part of that even with his brief mention according to theoy Zeus was one of the many sons of Kronos who was the ruler of the world and the leader of the 12 Titans we see this play out in episode one of blood of Zeus where Zeus and the Olympians are are seen defeating the last of the Titans whose curse and remains create the Giants though in theoy the Giants were born from the remains of Orono after the Titans defeated him now Kronos was just one of the 12 Titans as I said with another of importance here being ypus ypus also had children which included Prometheus making Prometheus and Zeus both the children of the Titans Yus and Kronos Zeus Prometheus and the other Olympian generation teamed up against their parents the Titans to defeat them for good but following that Zeus and Prometheus begin to have conflict Prometheus decides to give the light of un wearing fire to humans against Zeus's wishes and for this Zeus binds him to the Earth and sends an eagle to eat his liver every day only for it to painfully regrow each night we see a brief glimpse of this punishment in Blood of Zeus with a tour of Hades where Prometheus is suffering with the other gods and humans what's interesting is that theoy accounts not just for Zeus binding Prometheus but also one day letting his own son Heracles free him even in this early myth this held huge significance to the Greek people because Prometheus in many ways represented the Greeks themselves Prometheus was the creator of the humans in Greek mythology and it was his son dualon who was said to have survived a great flood before repopulating the world the historical Greek ancestor Helen is said to be the son of dualon making humans not just the creation of Prometheus in the first place but also later his direct descendants Prometheus being bound to the Earth in such a tortured way thus represented the Greek people being bound to the Earth by the will of the greater God Zeus while Zeus as explained can essentially be the father of people the way he is the father of Athens and Athena Zeus represents the idea of divinity even beyond the Greek cultures borders which is more common than you might think this same pattern is found in ancient Babylon where the humans are created by the god Ani who is actually the younger relative of the chief God enlil enlil like Zeus ordered there to be a flood with Ani and Prometheus warning the humans about the flood so that they can escape it what this generally represents in a culture like that of the Greeks or Babylonians is that they inherited their mythology from a culture that came before them with th God being seen as the creator of people because most people see th God as the creator of humans and for a ruling power that is often the chief God of the pantheon but for the Greeks as a secondary Colony this made their God Prometheus the creator of humans even though Zeus was more of this greater Divine entity that encapsulated all Heracles thus represented the idea of a god from the most high sending forgiveness to the Greek people in the form of a savior who Unchained them from the earth and that idea evolved over time less so in the overt mythology of Greece and more so in its hidden mythology of the mystery schools which was a huge Focus in season 2 of blood of Zeus in season 2 a lot of time is given to the character of pranie and her husband Hades in the homeric hymns prapan is described as being kidnapped by Hades much to the dismay of her mother neiter unlike the show The Narrative of Pan's kidnap paints Hades as a villain with Deiter petitioning Zeus to have her return but unfortunately pranie is tricked into eating the six pomegranate seeds that trap her in Hades for 6 months out of the Year this is of course the story of our son which for 6 Months of the Year favors our Northern Hemisphere and then for 6 months favors the southern hemisphere seemingly dying from the perspective of the North and the world dying with it this is portrayed as dimiter causing the world to wither and die such as in the fall and winter each year before her daughter is returned but just as the sun doesn't truly favor one side of our Earth over the other pranie is portrayed in the show as not truly hating Hades but actually running away to be with him her mother Deiter is the one who ultimately keeps her away from her love and her children that they have together but panie also notes how much she loves her mother and wants there to be a balance between them this story is not just important to Greek myth but also to the Greek Mystery Schools Mystery Schools were the sort of secret societies all over the world that told very similar stories in the form of mystery plays that acted as initiation ceremonies joining this sort of organization was seen as a re birth so the play often involved a death and rebirth narrative such as found in the local religions already the Greek version of this is the ucini Mysteries where initiates would run 25 miles in order to push their bodies to its physical limit before acting out the part of pany in the play this led to a near-death experience like state of mind while watching a story that was itself about death and rebirth representing the person not just being reborn but seeing the process of death and rebirth as part of the cosmic balance of life and the initiate comes to love the dark and the light such as the sun loves our world and the supposed underworld that it sinks into every winter it is no coincidence this is the story they chose to focus on for much of season 2 as these Mystery Schools were well known for their focus on Prophecy forcoming saviors both within their initiation plays and outside of it for instance the ucini Mysteries were just one mystery School in Greece another being the mysteries of Orphan which focused on the character of dionis who himself closely resembles Heron in the orphic Mysteries the initiate plays the role of dianis the son of Zeus who in some stories is mothered by a human woman named s though in the orphic Mysteries he's the son of Zeus and pranie interestingly mirroring her story in the ucini Mysteries with that of dionis dionisis is prophesied to one day rule over all of creation the Titans fearing this killed dionis dismember in him which leads to Zeus killing them with his Thunderbolts from the mixed remains of dionis and the Titans humans were born with the goal of life being to purge the sinful Titan aspect from your body in order to allow the essence of dionisis to become pure so that he might one day Ascend back to his higher more Divine State after your death of course for fans of blood of Zeus this story less resembles Heron and more so resembles seraphim and what he became sarim is technically the twin brother of Heron being born from the same mother but they happen to be a rare case of having two different fathers one the god Zeus and the other the Earthly King that their mother was married to blood of Zeus focuses more so on the battle against the Giants and its ramifications than the battle against the Titans which more so sets up the relationship for Zeus and Hera seraphim being close to death Came Upon the body of the Titan and ate of its flesh in order to stay alive this gave him the power of the Giant and with it the sinful nature of the Giants with the story evolving to whether or not the sinful giant energy inside of sarim will destroy him or Define him with all of this in mind it's no surprise then that the final episode involves seraphim and Heron entering a chamber where they each must face three trials in a pentagon-shaped area three is of course the number of degrees in the more modern mystery schools that came after the Greek Mysteries such as Freemasonry Freemasonry also has a second AR body called The Order of the Eastern Star for female initiates whose primary symbolism is the five-sided Pentagon such as the chamber depicted in the show when entering this area in the show it is even explained that in order to succeed you must be an unraveler of mysteries the point of Mystery Schools being that their ceremonies present a mystery for you to solve about the greater nature of history and spirituality after the two more simple trials that sarim and then later Heron fac Gia returns to talk to Heron and reveal that the third trial is the ultimate mystery to unravel the mystery of forgiveness this is not coincidentally what Jesus is known for as another dying and reborn figure while Christianity presents as a sort of offshoot of Judaism it was something that took over Greece and then the rest of the western world with Judaism as a whole rejecting the idea of not just Jesus as their Messiah but as the Messiah being the son of God while there are some references in the Old Testament to a Messianic figure being seen as a sort of Son of God these are generally interpreted as more poetic the idea of the Messiah being a Son of God seems more so inspired by the Greek ideas of Heracles and dionis a figure descended from the god most high who is given Divine labors to perform in order to achieve a greater godhood the synchronization with the ideas of the Jewish Messiah seem rooted in mystery School teachings of the Greeks that made made it into the public we discussed earlier how Prometheus representing the Greek peoples was bound to the Earth for displeasing Zeus in the 8th Century writing of hesiod's the ogyny later the story of Prometheus was elaborated on in the form of a play what we might think of as a mystery play though this one was written for the public this is Prometheus bound from around 500 BC attributed to escalus escalus was a famous playwright from his time who was ACC Accused by various Greek philosophers of exposing the secret teachings of the elini Mysteries that this season of the show is model after with its story of pany for which he was almost executed some have argued that Prometheus bound wasn't even written by this author but was actually a mystery School teaching made public on purpose after his death that was attributed to him the way different Bible stories are attributed to their historical authors and Prophets and Patriarchs as a sort of culture to Authority all of this is to say that Prometheus bound was something of an ancient Greek secret society story with what it added to prometheus's narrative which were very specific details about his eventual release in the play Prometheus is of course bound to the Earth at some point during which he meets the character of Io Io is a character from Greek and later Roman myth that is portrayed variously as a nymph or else a human woman who as usual Zeus falls in love with and then impregnate this angers Hera and Zeus transforms IO into a cow in order to disguise her this ends with Hera simply sending a gadfly to torture eio stinging her so she wanders the Earth seemingly endlessly prometheus's name means foresight and in most cases this gives the impression that Prometheus is ironically named being clever enough to trick Zeus but not enough to foresee the consequences of that because Prometheus would eventually escape with the help of Heracles according to the ogyny some have interpreted him as having done what he did to give humans the gift he wanted to knowing he would suffer quite a bit but would one day be set free as it was ultimately a good deed this gift of foresight is important to Prometheus bound where it is his gift of Prophecy that allows him to see that it is the savior from the line of eio who will release Prometheus from his chains and transform eio to her human state so that she no longer has to wander the Earth this is similar to the story of Heracles and his mother but it removes the more historical ideas behind Heracles and focuses more so on the supposed prophecy of a savior that was being passed down among these Mystery Schools who were known for extensive writing on prophecies for the future now the true identity of IO or who she represents as a people has varied interpretations but there became an interest to identify the wandering tribes of Israel and the later Jewish people with her due to the similarities in the Greek and Jewish literature and their focus on on their coming Messiah this was during the second temple period after the Jewish people had returned from Babylon and in the centuries leading up to the time of Christ in that time Greek philosophers who wrote on the Jewish history noted that they referred to their God as EO or yaah with this potentially dating back to the earliest Times of Israel before the first temple period in Egypt for instance the god of the desert was known as Seth who had been seen as a parallel to the biblical Seth a p atriarch in the earliest parts of the Jewish genealogies and he was depicted in Egypt as a donkey this was widely believed to be because among the Canaanites who worshiped Bal or set as the Egyptians called him at least one group was known to refer to their God as EO which the Egyptians used to describe the sound of a donkey similar to the EO in the donkey character eore from Winnie the Pooh all of this led to the idea that the eventual savior hoped for by the Greeks would come from Judea and they began to identify the davidic king the Jewish people were expecting with a son of God who would essentially set them free for what their great ancestor had done to bless them this appears to play out in the show with a character seraphim who is presented as being one of the cursed like Prometheus in the Montage of Hades from season 2 featuring a series of Greek figures with similar punishments the term sarim in Hebrew actually refers to a high class of Angels the word sarap meaning burn and the I am in Hebrew denoting a plurality or a group The seraphim generally translates as burning ones due to the monotheism of Judaism there is much less of a focus on Divinity intersecting with Humanity with it often being seen as Blasphemous whereas other religions depict themselves as the descendants of gods in many cases Judaism shows humans as distinctly the creation of a singular God a material creation from the earth even if imbued with Divine ideas from the breath of God With God even insisting that Adam is from the Earth and to the Earth he will return seraphim as a character represents that being not descended from Zeus as we said but still being the one who according to Gaia could unravel the mystery of forgiveness seraphim of course has some Divinity even if considered evil as he ate from the Giant's flesh but it emphasizes the idea of someone seeing themselves as primarily material but that has the potential to become the divine Savior that is needed in the world of blood of Zeus the battle for the season 2 finale had great action but it ended with Heron deciding that it was time to wipe the Slate clean and forgive all those who had wronged him from Hera who had pulled the strings to this entire War to sarim who had killed his mother unfortunately this ends with Hades killing Heron not out of hatred or anger but simply needing to escape his prison of Hades so that he can be with his wife even asking Heron to forgive him as he kills him the the death of Haron like in all the mystery schools I imagine can't be permanent and like Zeus and seraphim he'll continue his journey in the underworld in the next season now in the Book of Revelations it's revealed that Christ himself is the one who initiates the apocalypse only being able to open the seals of Destruction on Earth after becoming the slain lamb and returning to the realm up above Heron slaughtering likewise leads Gia to decide that no one is worthy of ruling existence and that it's time for the Olympians to meet their end to do this guy speaks the name of an unspeakable entity uttering which causes him to be set free this is Typhon who in hesiod's the ogyny was the child of Gaia and the underworld of Tartarus a monster she created as revenge against the Olympians for killing her Titan children within the show guy represents the Earth and ultimately wants what is best for it but because the gods are so powerful it's not as simple as it is with humans who can be easily held down and taught lessons needed in their short lives or else expire without much effect on the world but the near Immortal gods live long and their long punishments only give them more fuel for vengeance Gia in this show acts as a force that wants balance and seems to have believed the Olympians could become the divinities worthy of ruling the world but at the end of the season she unleashes Typhon again for their demise like in the Christ narrative and all these mystery school legends however I believe that Heron will descend into the underworld or Hades for season 3 where he will rescue the souls that are trapped there and then return to the world above to put an end to the apocalypse after it led to the destruction of the Unworthy the true villains of the series such as perhaps Hera if she's not able to accept the Forgiveness that Haron has given her but so far these are just my theories based on the real life mythology that seems to inspire the show season 3 will undoubtedly be its own wild experience and the writers can make a lot of changes to the mythology with how they want to end this for their modern audience but what do you guys think let me know your thoughts in the comments down below let me know your favorite mythological infusions what you learn from this video and any other shows you'd like me to do a deep mythological breakdown like this
