is it technically a 'weighted-slide' delayed blowback?

With hi-points you get what you paid for.

From what I've heard though they seem to do their job just fine.

a few fish [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] if you've ever needed a problem-solver go ahead and hit that subscribe button guys like in comment comment section is probably better than me in every single way imaginable so go down there and figure out why people are commenting and being insane down there if you're looking to support the channel both ways to do that we have gun neg warehouse they support the channel monetarily and you guys can buy magazines for them so they're pretty cool of it do quick shipping and good prices and all that if you want ammunition too lax ammo or plaid and all that kind of good outdoorsy stuff you have vertex 25% off with grantham guys thank you for watching and ladies I know you're out there today we're gonna be talking about perhaps the most debated firearm the firearms community or probably not the most but we have the high point C 9 now that's supposedly the C 9 that's debated but you see a lot of these out there and why do you see so many high points everywhere and the reason for that is that they are very very cheap I bought this for a hundred and nineteen dollars from a pawn shop with cash it felt really dirty when I did it so they're really cheap and see a lot you see a lot of people being like oh yeah it's gonna be my first gun or because they're cheap people are like well they clearly suck so what's the verdict I don't know let's find out so I have two the first one I have is the money high point which is which is broken I broke it and I that was pretty sick has money print on it I think this I think the print actually costs more than the High Point itself but that's a pretty cool little firearm and of course that one broke so then I had to buy another one to make sure that I could finish this damn review so here we are talking about the high point C 9 something I never thought would happen on this channel how far I've fallen so far so let's um let's do an overview let's talk about it and let's go over the guy and just like a would with any other firearm talk about why this may or may not be worth it were worth the money to you so first off barrel the barrel the barrel is actually fairly well made it's made of steel it should be and it is and it is button rifled and actually it's probably more accurate than you like many other things the barrel is fixed as well because this is a straight blowback gun and we'll talk more about that but anyhow I think the barrel is more accurate than you however can the sights and can the trigger allow you to be as accurate as a barrel demands probably not but you know I'm pretty sure that barrel is pretty good so get an high point for having just a great well not a great but having a barrel that is wholly adequate for the duty with which it is intended to perform okay so okay dr. Barry let's talk about the slide if you notice the slide is enormous and ugly a lot of people will describe this gun as ugly so I don't know if I want to describe it as ugly the hypo hc9 is straight blowback so in many ways it has a lot of its heritage some of these older firearms like the Walther PPK in the 1903 and so I always you know pick up a Walther PPK which is similar in the way that it's you know slide is kind of writing right over on the top of the the frame I always think to myself hey remember this girl from high school this is her now so the slide is made out as zamak or however you pronounce that and so that is a type of pot metal it is not steel so due to it being a straight blowback design and using a alloy pot metal they need a lot because all that heavy weight and mass allows the breech to stay closed until the slug at exits the barrel at that point it recoils so you know I understand why they did it but famously the truth about guns States been reviewing this that you know in Colt figured out how to do is straight blowback with a much smaller more elegant slide also weight a little bit less of course it was 380 in the year 1903 so clearly we've actually devolved I'm just kidding but um here's a problem this this slide is the weakest part of the entire gun and so when I had my failure when I was doing a torture test on this it came from the slide so I'm sure you've you know seen the comment that people say oh they're ugly but they're built like tanks they're not built like tanks that pot metal type slide is not very strong at all so if you've watched YouTube rather reviews I'm sure you've seen the review where demolition ranch guys you know take or demolition ranch and whatever his name is Matt I think it takes a high point and he famously puts up and he shoots it and the gun keeps functioning so the question is how didn't mind break and his didn't when I just spiked mine into a rock and he shot his easy he happened to shoot the strongest part on the high point which is the barrel it's basically my hair over the chamber so because of that it didn't damage the slide as much he's able to get the gun working now had he hit the slide that would have been game over for that thing so it's all kind of a chance you know happen chance type thing so anyhow with this High Point right here that I broke what I did come on stay together baby just a little bit longer is you know I threw it into the ground and then I ran over it with a car which seems impressive but it's not you know any firearm could take that and then I threw it into a rock so when I throw it into the rock it landed right on the top here of the slide and that dented it in and it caused a small crack at the bottom of the slide now the question is could other firearms take that yeah absolutely like a Glock can take that no problem but due to the weaker metal used in the slide that caused a crack so anyhow what I did after that is I cycled again a little bit cuz the trigger was dead it wasn't working and I got the trigger working again so I hid behind it wouldn't barricade and I shot this for science so the first round fired after that I did go to battery so I forced it into battery and fire the second round which is when we had this spectacular failure I think I managed to break it oh I did yeah you know does that mean that the high point is a terrible firearm no it doesn't doesn't mean it's a terrible fire but it does mean the compared to firearms made for duty use and for hard use and you know actual work yeah it absolutely is inferior so don't believe this to be equal to firearms have been proven around the world and I'm sure someone's gonna say well the high points been carried in foreign countries and stuff and ok so now that we've talked a little bit about slide also there are two kind of variations to the high point you have one that has the serrations on the back right there and then one that has the serrations a little bit higher up right here so the one that works has the serrations higher up let's talk about the sights so the front sight is just kind of molded right in cast right in with the slide and it's painted yellow didn't stay within the lines which is too bad my niece stays in the lines and she's four but you know a for effort on that the rear sight can be swapped out for a ghost ring site that they include and in fact if you go on high point forums you'll find that people are very enthusiastic about the ghost ring site it makes it much more accurate but you only get that ghost ring site if you level up or if you buy the firearm so the sights leave a lot to be desired they are not well executed in my opinion however they are adequate and the fact that they function and they put around on the paper when you use them I found that this gun was pretty much dead on I know that other others have had problems with these guns being low or left or right anything like that but mine happen to be good for both the firearms that I have so all right way to go high point the grip the grip looks a lot like a Walther PPQ 's and that's not a bad thing the grip is actually fine in my opinion it feels good which I hate to say but it's fine the problem with the grip is that it's very smooth there's not a lot of grip eNOS there to keep your hand in place so things like Glocks have a little bit of aggressive texturing on the frame to allow you to hold into the gun and keep it on target when you're firing because if it's something that's completely smooth and it's trying to recoil it's gonna be much harder to keep it on target as you're firing rapidly so the high point lacks that so it does make for a less economic shooting experience now moving from there we had the safety so kind of two safeties here one you have a magazine disconnect so if the magazine is out the gun will not allow you to pull the trigger now the safety right here is pretty mushy I've heard a lot of people describe it as like heavy it's not heavy it's just it's not positive so like with a 1911 safety and I know that's unfair the safety just clicks right down right it wants to go when you put pressure into it with this you got to follow it all the way down to the bottom and I know you're gonna rationalize and you're gonna say well that's good I want to have to be able to really feel that safety all the way in it's not good don't rationalize this it's it's a terrible safety but it does work so good on the gothic trigger okay so before we go any further let's let's talk about the trigger so the trigger is not good but what better way to describe that to you than to ghost that trigger with us together just like the famous one we ghosts you're gonna put your finger on there I'm gonna put my finger over years and we're gonna make some beautiful pottery so the trigger is around nine pounds plus has a little bit of take-up and then it just hits a hard wall lets off very it's a really weird let off it's like you hit that nine pounds and then it like decreases after as you follow through on it it's a very sloppy feeling piece of crap my point there we go okay now the reset okay the resets not really palpable as far as where it resets at that's not a big deal because you should be letting your trigger finger forward enough to be training on it okay wish you let off okay okay there's a reset right there because try that reset one more time having a hard time finding where that resets at right there okay the resets long and it's hard to kind of tell where precisely it is it is repeatable which is good but it's it's a terrible trigger straight up it's not a good trigger at all okay the magazine release is actually located in a good area right here easy to hit magazines drop free there's a little bit of a funnel right here and mags do tend to catch up sometimes otherwise it'd work some of the older magazines don't work nearly as well as the newer production ones and I know that seems like kind of a given but um I have had no problems with the newer production highpoint that I've had compared to the older one well these magazines tend to make the rounds kind of want to nosedive a little bit and it jams the gun up so if you get a newer magazine the gun will run fairly reliably and when we're speaking about it is it reliable actually yes and in fact with crappy ammo more reliable than my 2011's which actually isn't saying much but still it does run when you're using newer magazines this older magazine no it knows dies all the time wait so how much does this thing weigh well it weighs around 29 ounces which is fairly heavy so let's compare that to something like a Glock 19 right here we have the Glockner first off size comparison so why does it matter so much about the size between these two firearms right here well it matters because they're very similar in size with the high point actually be larger however the high point carries 8 rounds in this magazine plus one the chamber so for a total of nine well as the Glock carries 15 in its magazine plus one the chamber for a total of 16 or of course you add a steno clip way more just giving high-capacity magazine now you can get higher capacity magazines for the high points e9 however they are not very reliable would not recommend them so we've talked about printer everything except for shooting this what does it feel like to shoot pretty atrocious actually can it be done yeah absolutely like any other firearm you can shoot this and make it work but these straight blowback is just this gun the slide does not want to come back like if you watch high-speed of this like you shoot it and it's like no it's like okay fine and the spring is just working for all that's worth to try to get that slide back into battery it's a very pronounced recoil impulse compared to something like a Glock 19 or a more well engineered firearm with a with a different operating mechanism and it works so that's my problem is is this firearm for you is it reliable yeah if you get the right magazine make sure you practice with it and you know should I buy it for home defense well that depends it depends on what type of shooter you are and what you're looking for because if you're doing enough practice with your handgun in my mind to get good with it I don't think that the high point is worth it I don't believe that the high point has what you need because of all the weird quirks like the magazine disconnect the Machinists of the safety and other reasons such as reliability I just can't recommend it now if you absolutely can't afford anything else and you still want to protect yourself I mean yeah it's a possibility but if you're in any way serious about shooting I'd highly recommend you buy like a police trade-in Glock or something like that or with just anything other than the high point will not anything but there's a ton of great firearms out there that I think offer better reliability for a slightly higher price point so why don't you take a look at those before you take a look at a high point if you have one when ever go shoot it so what does it come down to honestly if you have this and you rock this and like a highly strategic class I know my dad loved that but first off you do that I and you give me proof of that first guy to do that we'll get something from me but I just recommend something else it shoots it's just not very strong so stay away I know a lot of people have praised this handgun they said oh it's so reliable and it's built like a tank itself I disagree on all points and I just know justjust don't go get training guys if you get it get training if you get something better like a Glock 19 or something get training cuz that's what matters if you can't shoot your gun and none of this matters actually get that training in fact if all you have is like four hundred dollars I'd much rather you buy this and then get you know another two hundred dollars of ammunition and then a hundred dollars worth of training over there just buying a Glock 19 and never shooting it so because training is what matters make sure that you have the skills to use these weapons to make yourself effective otherwise they're just ornamental pieces tons of great places to get training from now three places I'm gonna recommend I wouldn't recommend bringing a Glock I mean a high point to them but if you do hilarious cog works bare solutions Hayley strategic esoteric Darcy Tony Cowden all these guys are great check them out if you get that training you're gonna be better at shooting then you're not look cool and as we know that's all that matters and with that being said I've got nothing else for you take care last thing for you is going to be investing make sure you invest if you're younger like 19 to 20 investing early on in your life will pay dividends later on because time is on your side so make sure you invest and make your money work for you otherwise it's just going to be sitting there in your bank account and of course have enough to make sure that you're safe and okay but make sure you invest and if you've gotten this far you know we're gonna talk about Big Daddy and Limited which is kind of like Costco but for guns with a really bad name so is it gonna be worth it will depends are you gonna be buying gun parts if not it's not going to be worth it otherwise it will absolutely be worth it because you can find some wonderful deals of there check it out the link is right below gentlemen thank you for watching take care of yourself
