sometimes and how you need to fight it sometimes you need to feel the pain and sting of defeat to activate the real passion and purpose that god predestined inside of you god says in jeremiah i know the plans i have for you plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you hope and a future hear me well on this day this day when you have reached the hilltop and you are deciding on our next jobs next steps careers further education you would rather find purpose than a job or career purpose crosses disciplines purpose is an essential element of you it is the reason you are on the planet at this particular time in history your very existence is wrapped up in the things you are here to fulfill whatever you choose for a career path remember the struggles along the way are only meant to shape you for your purpose when god has something for you it doesn't matter who stands against it if it's meant for you god will move someone that's holding you back away from a door and put someone there who will open it for you i don't know what your future is but if you're willing to take the harder way the more complicated one the one with more failures at first their successes the one that has ultimately proven to have more meaning more victory more glory then you will not regret it press on with pride and press on with purpose and appreciate what god has brought you [Music] behind those masks and everything they're going to come across and then we're going to let them sit with their families on today and then pastor dez has a special announcement at the end about something we're going to be doing for the graduates i think this is huge because they finished their year in a pandemic that is very huge we ought to give them a hand just for that come on now virtual so let me try to make the announcement we are going to do uh something we haven't done before and that dance where'd you go you supposed to make this other announcement about the dinner you're too young to be your mind to be that bad [Music] [Music] this is this is not the only thing that we want to do for our graduates let me say it again this is not what all that we want to do for our graduates we want to have a dinner with you guys bishop wants to have a sit down and feature young leopard for food so on the 28th [Music] on the 28th we're going to have a senior send-off with bishop and first lady i'll clap it up for that okay all right so make sure you put that down in your calendar we're excited for you it is not over we got more for you you guys have had a real year so we ain't get no gift they always give out gifts to the graduates we're going to give out something special at that sit-down dinner pastor dez is going to give a word of encouragement to our seniors so the one and only the father of the house bishop mckissick senior will be in the house preaching next week on father's day there was a flyer with his picture on it but that's all right i know how to keep it rolling so put the one back up you just had up for me please because it has the information on there uh for next sunday at 10 a.m now we are inviting 50 fathers y'all know men we are slow we are slower than y'all are and uh so we are at 50 so we've got 25 that have registered so men i'm encouraging you right now to register yourself father and your family meet us here next sunday the some people that y'all know it's just that orianna just gets she just pours into these young people and know and makes them know that they are special and significant and so i want to uh thank her you know i think sometimes in the church [Music] we spend more time judging our kids as opposed to praying over our kids and so before i do anything else i want to pray over our young people over our graduates that the hand of the lord stay on their lives doesn't mean they're not going to make mistakes doesn't mean every now and then they're they're not going to fall away but my prayer this morning is that god's hand stays on them and i want every young person to hear me today you can never stray so far that the arms of god can't reach you some of us who are adults should have clapped a little better than that because we are witnesses so i i don't want this day to pass without me praying over our young people praying for their protection praying for their prosperity i'm not talking about money but i'm talking about the prosperity of their mind their health their relationships praying over praying over [Music] their relationship with parents all of us can testify as our children get to that older part of teenage years things shift in the dynamics and it's not just our children that need prayer but we need prayer as parents to know how to talk to them and approach them so i don't want to go any further if you're watching on stream i want you to join me in this moment of prayer come on if you just if you're a parent and your graduate is near you just put your hand on them if you will if if you're a parent near or grandparent near your if you're not and you're just here today stretch your hand toward the altar towards these children and so god i pray this morning i i pray over this generation so many count them out in and and so many act as if they have nothing to offer so many people act as if their regeneration gone bad but the devil is a liar we speak life and the richness of the kingdom of god over these young people god today cover their minds cover their thoughts cover their decisions their choices cover their discernment god let peer pressure be a joke to them not that they won't go through it but that they will know how to handle it i pray today oh god for our young people that even in the midst of mistakes they will not hear the voice of the enemy who will try to convince them that a mistake means their life is ruined or that a bad choice means their life is over god today cover their ears so that the enemy will have no access to their mind and to their thoughts and then god cover their relationships today help them to foster healthy friendships connect them to people who can help lead them and guide them but then connect them to people where their witness will be an encouragement to other people god all of their friends will not be churchy all of their friends will not carry bibles and help them to know that when they have friends who are not churchy it is their assignment as young kingdom warriors to not go down to the level of those friends but to live in such a way that those friends come up to their level cover them today as many of them go off to college or maybe go off to the military or go into the workforce they begin many of them adulthood many of them beginning high school god today i pray over them i pray for parents and parental children relationships god there's been an attack on the family this year and the enemy is trying everything he can to divide families but the devil is a liar satan we tell you today you will not have our homes you will not have our relationships i cover every home i cover every god relationships that are severed and torn and broken begin to mend them right now god heal our broken hearts heal our wounded spirits heal our anger oh god so that we can be families that give your name the glory the honor and the praise i declare scholarships coming and i declare awards coming i declare today oh god that the next move in their lives will be smooth and will be easy thank you for brooks oh god and as he begins his new life with alex thank you o god that the the favor of your self will be upon him i declare because of the faithfulness he has shown to these young people into this ministry that their marriage is blessed beyond measure thank you for pastor dez and the assignment on his life to speak life into these young people and so today god we celebrate the young people we give you glory for these young people we give you honor for these young people we thank you for them today we thank you for their sweetness we thank you for their genuineness we thank you today for their minds [Music] have your way now in each of their lives is my prayer in jesus name everything we've talked about is only made possible because of the faithfulness of your giving so you see all of our giving platforms on the screen if you're in the sanctuary we acknowledge you to use the platform that you use if you were home there are many things we have to do there are many visions god has given we've got great things planned so i need you to be faithful through these summer months i know i know child the world is open and y'all itching to get out and vacate vacation and do everything else but please in the midst of all of that don't forget to keep god first so your giving is so important you see another way we've created a qr code all you have to do is hold your phone up to that and all of our giving platforms will automatically open up to you your giving is important i'll say it again number one it's important because we we want to be obedient stewards to the kingdom of god you want to be obedient because that's where the blessing comes you don't like your fruit check your seed because you reap what you sow if you're proud of your church and you want to see your church continue to do great ministry then i'm admonishing you right now secondly the eyes exceed the eyes exceed if you're believing god for something great and powerful it has not happened yet the holy spirit told me months ago to tell everyone to sow a 22 dollar seed until that thing comes to pass and so this morning sow that 22 seed not instead of your tithe not instead of your offering but on top of your offering i'm a witness man as you sow in faith god said your isaac is going to be birthed and i want to remind you of that hey lastly uh the trustees are here so if you want to bring yours or if you're in the sanctuary and you just give the old-fashioned way there's going to be a receptacle in the back that you can give on the way out or hand it to one of our trustees i want to shout out our ushers today for being here and doing such an amazing job can y'all help me thank them and tan and our hospitality team cynthia pastor dez and his crew for getting uh the graduates together as well young people don't leave we've got some great things afterwards that pastor dez and his team have planned we've got some colleges that are here today and so if you've got some young people who are still trying to work through their minds where they want to go to college or if hbcus four or five of them are here we've got a bank this was so powerful when pastor dares told me about this we've got a bank here that's going to allow our young people to open up a bank account and begin to teach them about investing and saving yeah that's what's up right so so that's here we've got a dj dj marty mart i know that needs a real name that's what i like to call him but marty is gonna be djing we've got uh a graffiti wall you can sign it's just a lot of great things going on and uh so i want to encourage you to stick around when we are done come on take your bible or your copy of the word of the lord and go with me to the gospel of mark and the ninth chapter the gospel of mark and the ninth chapter and i'm going to begin reading at verse 14. the gospel to all of our zoomers all of my facebook folk i see y'all with your hearts and everything on there oh i'm still sweating from preaching this morning are y'all praying for me i don't warm myself out this morning all right mark chapter 9 verse 14 when they came to the other disciples they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them as soon as all the people saw jesus they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him what are you arguing with them about he asked a man in the crowd answered teacher i brought my son who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech whenever it sees him it throws him to the ground he foams at the mouth gnashes his teeth becomes rigid i asked your disciples to drive out the spirit but they could not you unbelieving generation jesus replied how long shall i stay with you how long shall i put up with you bring the boy to me so they brought him and when the spirit saw jesus it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion he fell to the ground and rolled around forming at the mouth jesus asked the boy's father how long has he been like this from childhood he answered it is often throwing him into fire or water to kill him but if you can do anything take pity on us and help us if you can said jesus everything is possible for one who believes immediately the boy's father exclaimed i do believe help me overcome my unbelief when jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene he rebuked the impure spirit you deaf and mute spirit he said i command you come out of him and never enter him again the spirit shrieked convulsed him violently and came out the boy looked so much like a corpse that many said he's dead but jesus took him by the hand lifted him to his feet and he stood up after jesus had gone indoors his disciples asked him privately why couldn't we drive it out he replied this kind can only come out by prayer amen hey don't forget wednesday night we're in this new series doctrines that divide us and man i'm telling you this past week we talked about god and evil and so this wednesday night pastor and i are going to be in a dialogue and she's got some things to ask about last week as we try to clear her up we try to clear up our doctrines and make sure we believe right so i want to encourage you to be a part of that i want to teach this morning uh with a question and a thought i want to talk about you better ask somebody look at somebody tell them you better ask somebody you would ask somebody we're in the midst of the nba playoffs they ain't going to be that good because the lakers are out but we're in the midst of the nba playoffs where teams are now vying to be this year's top dog and and champion and i observed something uh tuesday night that clicked something inside my mind it was both humorous and instructive it was during the game between the different nuggets and the los angeles clippers that team that lives in the basement of the staples center um donovan mitchell had had come down the court and and he was appearing to be very frustrated about how the game was going because at that point uh they were losing the utah jazz were uh losing and the clippers were up by i believe about eight points or so and sitting courtside was one of the new minority owners we know him as dwayne wade he called out to mitchell through a whisper or or something of that nature and mitchell looked over and i noticed that dwyane wade began to give him some hand signals doing something like this and then he did that then he pointed down towards the court and then he did that signal again and it seemed like maybe it was just me but it seemed like from that very moment mitchell's game shifted and the nuggets went on to win i don't i don't need that jay thank you that was for me i appreciate it though thank you so much um and the nuggets went on went on to win and it brought to my mind a truth the game is not just affected by the players on the court it is equally impacted by the coaches on the sideline that there is the game but then there is the game plan and while the players play the game the coaches give them the plan to play with so that what we see in their athletic prowess in public is a result of good coaching and instruction in private here's the reality nobody gets to where they are by themselves now i know y'all are used to being home on your couch but since y'all in here i need y'all throw amends my way every night i know y'all don't got used to being home digging on the scene with a home streaming lean but you're all in here so i need y'all holler back at you boy since y'all in here today um if you are evolving and maturing you are going to at some point need somebody who has the expertise to partner with your ability to help manifest your potential i'm talking about somebody who knows the potential in you and commits themselves to doing their part to bringing it out of you i i i feel sorry for people that think they are so grand and so great that they don't need anybody besides themselves i i i feel sorry for the person that overestimates and inflates their gift talent and abilities because no one can be their best selves by themselves that all of us need somebody we can ask stuff of to be better than we are right now you better ask somebody there it is that's good that section right there y'all done picked it up right there this story is one of one that is familiar to some people it's the healing of a son who has been in this medical condition of lunacy since he was born jesus has been on what has been called the mount of transfiguration with his inner circle and he comes down to this crazy scene there's there's this argument going on between the disciples and religious leaders that were sparked by a man who brought his son to be healed he's living the bible says under demonic oppression the the texts in both gospels it's recorded in mark and matthew are very descriptive as to what happens to the boy i love matthew's version because it gets even more descriptive it says he keeps falling into the fire into the water over and over get it he keeps falling into the same things he keeps doing the same things ending up in the same places one one bible has the heading over this story as the healing of a lunatic so that a lunatic looks straight ahead a lunatic is somebody who keeps doing the same things ending up in the same places hurting themselves the same ways a lunatic defined by the bible is somebody who ain't learned from getting burned a lunatic according to this bible is somebody who doesn't seem to be learning from previous mistakes they can't seem to control their destructive behavior they can't control their destructive decisions they just keep getting in the same mess the same dysfunction the same bad spending habits the same bad eating habits the same trifling friendships the same type of relationships the same kind of men the same kind of women they just keep repeating over and over and over and matthew's version says something real interesting y'all it says the man said to jesus check it out i brought my son to you come here i know y'all gotten used to not being in here so let me help you he says i brought my son to you and my question was how did you bring him to jesus when jesus was on top of the mountain matthew mark's version says i brought my son to your disciples then it clicked for me that this parent yes this man equated the disciples with jesus they think or he thinks that they don't represent themselves they represent jesus y'all didn't get it y'all didn't get it um they declared or he declared that i assumed that they represented you and since they represented you i thought bringing my child to them was the same thing as bringing my child to you can i suggest to y'all on the way to where i'm really trying to go this morning that some families and some children and some people are still in their conditions because when they were brought to us we thought it was about us and not about jesus so instead of loving them to deliver them we judged them to scare them yeah i know y'all weren't gonna shout right through in here it instead of loving them to deliver them we're just like the disciples in the text busy arguing over what they really need to be better see when you really have authentic love love knows how to separate accepting the person from not accepting the action see and so many of our young folk and young folk i'm gonna give you permission to clap right here if it's you and if your mama your daddy get mad it'll be all right i'll do the counseling for you but the reason so many young people are done with the church is because we haven't given them safe space to make mistakes and learn from their destructive patterns and habits we've been like the disciples we were too busy arguing over how to fix them and what was wrong with them instead of giving them the lord's love we gave them the people's court and so now our young folk are scared to come to church because they're judged because she had a baby he's judged because he got his hair and twists i know y'all ain't going to talk to me now they don't want nothing to do with the church because they watched you cuss all week long and then you came to church like you were full of jesus they don't want nothing to do with the church because we we judged her because she slipped up and lost her virginity they don't want nothing to do with the church because they got connected with the wrong crowd instead of teaching them how to bring that crowd to jesus we beat them up y'all are awfully quiet maybe some more of our young people would be healed if we stop judging them but try to start loving them yo y'all ain't gonna say amen to me right right through here huh verse 20 says when when the spirit and the boy saw jesus it it reacted now here's what's deep the spirit the evil spirit in the boy didn't react when the church folks tried to help but when the spirit saw jesus the spirit got scared come here when the spirit saw the disciples the spirit didn't get scared but when the spirit saw jesus the spirit got scared and here's here's tim what the holy spirit said to me said because evil spirits when it comes to church folk evil spirits know the difference between performance and power and the reason the devil ain't scared of some of us is because we perform in church but ain't got no power outside the church so jesus says bring bring the boy to me and i give this father credit and some parents in this room and some parents watching me ought to shout you my crown is i give this father credit cause when the church failed him when the disciples failed him he said this boy has been acting like this since he was born i give this father credit because all these years of this little boy raising hell falling in hell catching hell and then the church not helping i give this father credit because the only reason we got this story in the bible is because after all of that he never gave up on his child and i i need some parents today who can just say god it don't matter what my child does i will never give i need some parents today who can say i don't care how crazy they get i don't care what they say out their mouth i don't care how low they sink the devil will never make me quit on my child i need some parents today who can say god i thank you for giving me what i need that when i wanted to beat the hell out of them you gave me what i needed to love the hell out of them i will not give up on my child because some of us who are adults can testify today the only reason we made it is because when we acted a fool we had some parents who never gave up on us do i have a witness today but somebody who can say god i thank you that when i was in my crazy years my parents never quit on me [Applause] i can testify i was a hellion i i ain't got no problem to i was a hellion do y'all hear me i was the preacher's kid but i was a hell yeah i raised hell i gave my mom and daddy grief huh one time i even raised my hand at my mama like i was gonna slap her when i was about 12 or 13 years old and the only reason i'm still here today is because in spite of times when i may have embarrassed them and not done the right thing they never gave up on me and somebody ought to thank god today that you are just like this father you had somebody who never gave up [Applause] [Music] never never never gave up on you you ought to go home and tell your children i don't care what you do i ain't giving up on you you you you oughta you ought to look at your child and tell them i don't care how crazy you act i'm not gonna give up on you we we might get crazy together but i'm never gonna give up on you y'all ought to pray over and let them know i'll never give up on you i don't care how far you fall i don't care if you keep falling into the same stuff over and over like this boy and attack i will not give up on you jesus he never gave up on his child so we come to this moment i did all that to get here they get to jesus when it's over i did all that just to get right here here's the twist and here's my word to these young people and to all of us jesus says to them when this father said i brought my son to them and they couldn't do nothing jesus said my god how long do i have to put up with y'all it's intense and he ain't talking to the father he's talking to the disciples he says how long do i have to keep dealing with y'all here's my first point jesus is upset with them because they have not utilized the benefit of prior preparation it seems harsh when jesus said how long have i put up with y'all parents have you ever said that to your children come on let's be honest if you're a business owner have you ever said that to folk that worked for you i mean how how long have i put up with this um and it seems harsh but then i remember the third chapter of the gospel of mark i'm trying to make it make sense come on yell behind the mask make it make sense all right in chapter 3 of this same gospel it says jesus called them commissioned them listen and gives them authority to cast out demons come here they have been equipped to do what they failed to do right now y'all didn't get it he equipped them in chapter three to cast out demons now sometime later they show an inability hear me to put into practice what they've been given authority to do for some reason they heard the lesson but miss the lesson they hadn't properly appropriated that they had been given everything they needed to do what they missed jesus was trying to get them ready in chapter three for what was coming in chapter nine y'all didn't get it he gave him what they needed in chapter three knowing chapter nine was coming see when it comes to the lord sometimes what god allows is getting you ready for a later chapter in your life it might not make sense in the chapter when you go through it it might not make sense in the chapter when you get it but learn the lesson from it because you will need it in a later chapter today be thankful for lessons that you learn that help you in the later chapters of your life be grateful for present preparation for future situations you're ready for a job you're ready for school you're ready to parent you're ready for relationship and sometimes it don't make sense what your mom and daddy might be saying to you but i came to tell you they just getting you ready for a later chapter i mean can we all talk not just to children have you had some things that didn't make sense when you went through it i think i heard one yes way back over there have have you have you had some stuff and when you went through it it didn't make sense but now in a later chapter of your life you get it let me talk to the adults real quick have you ever been mad at the way your parents treated you but now that you older you thankful for the things you learned when they made you mad come on y'all talk to me in this room today y'all talk to me on zoo do i have any zoomers and any facebook folk that can say you know what i like it when i went through it i couldn't stand it when my parents taught it to me i thought they were crazy i thought they were strict i thought they were outdated but now that i've gotten older i've come to understand that they were trying to get me ready for later chapters in my life and i need somebody to say god i thank you that i learned early what i needed in later chapters so young folk you may not like some of the things they tell you you might not like some of the ways they have you may think they are too strict but i guarantee you when a later chapter comes in your life what you learn now will help you when you get to a later chapter [Applause] so he said well i got to put up with y'all haven't y'all learned by now let me give you a second thing oh he's going to get quiet now you've got to be committed to correction for direction come on look at somebody behind the imagine you better ask somebody yeah here's what i mean by it um here come here come some bars for y'all um correction only feels like judgment to people who are in love with mediocrity let me come over here people only get mad at being corrected or challenged because they are in love with being mediocre people don't hate being challenged who want to grow whoo it doesn't got quiet the only folk that get agitated when somebody says something to them are either folk who think they all at and they ain't or they're in love with mediocre it doesn't get quiet in this episcopal church now i'm but that's okay because i'm used to it being quiet for 17 months you only get angry when somebody checks you because you're satisfied being marginal and you hide your satisfaction by acting like you better than everybody i know some people i'm just look at the curtains so nobody think i'm talking about them i know some people you can't say nothing to them because they always got the answer and they always think they know better than everybody else um people who want promotion and elevation will be committed to initiating moments of correction from the right people let me tell y'all something i'm becoming a i get rashes around people who don't want excellence i i'm becoming more and more allergic to people who are addicted to me i don't want nobody on my team who don't want my level of excellence watch the text so y'all don't think i'm just waxing jesus heals the boy right and the disciples could have just left it alone because the man got what he came there for the disciples could have just said oh i'm so glad jesus came along and got us out of that but the text says read the text when they got jesus in private they are so anxious to be better that they want to know what they did wrong or didn't do right teach rudolph mckissick they they weren't trying to impress somebody they were supposed to learn from see people who spend all of their time trying to be impressive with what they know will never go beyond where they are know-it-alls are the most dangerous people in the world it's it's it's dumb to want to be right more than you want to grow i know i know you know somebody like that y'all got them on your mind right now you you hate to even be on conference calls with them because they always got to try to one up whoever else is on the call to try to prove that they're just as smart as everybody on the call they don't know how to sit back and ask questions because they want to grow they're experts in everything experts in marriage but they're single experts on pastoring but ain't even preaching experts on church but ain't even called experts on parenting but they never had a child experts on how to educate but they still pay intuition experts on peer pressure but they live in a sheltered life experts on sexual struggles but ain't nobody checking for them can y'all handle this kind of word today see if you haven't been in my shoes quit trying to tell me how to lace them up i wish i had somebody right there if you want to go to the next level then quickly get connected to people you are called to learn from did you hear what i just said everybody in your life can't be assigned for you to instruct god wants to connect you to some people where your assignment is to be a learner not a talker that's all right bishop gonna come next week and shout us and run us all around the church learn to be inquisitive not impressive you you you need people in your life that that aren't so impressed by you that they don't have room to challenge you and correct you you need to know that there are some people god connects you to as a learner some people are in your life not to be your friend but to be your teacher oh but like these disciples you got to be willing and have to want it bad enough to ask one of the reasons the enemy works on us to be insecure it's because the greatest and most powerful mask we wear for insecurity is arrogance and when you mask your insecurity with arrogance you operate on a level where you can't be told nothing so you have a lot of young people who operate in the sphere of not listening to nobody and parents we have not got to the place of humility to understand they ain't being disrespectful they're not being arrogant it's their insecurity come on i know this ain't this you know y'all aren't used to this kind of word you know and so instead of praying for their insecurity what do we do i say nothing else to you because you don't never listen anyway i ain't saying nothing else to you because you think you're smarter than everybody else young folk have your parents haven't said that at the end of y'all don't be scared to put your hand up it's okay it's okay it's insecurity that makes us act like we can't learn but if you want to grow spiritually if you want to grow emotionally if you want to grow in maturity you've got to ask god who am i assigned to learn from they said to jesus okay jesus why couldn't we do this here's the last thing i want to share i know this sounds more like a ted talk but here's the last thing i want to share you can't take old ways to new levels um jesus jesus said to them um this kind they said why can't we do it jesus said this kind can only come out through fasting and praying this guy this this guy baby having my phone looks like the comments are stuck on there um um because i i want to see what the people are saying um they said jesus why why can't we do this what's what's wrong with us and jesus says this kind can only be done then it hit me jesus isn't suggesting that they didn't get it in the earlier chapter jesus isn't suggesting that they had not used their authority what jesus says is what you just experienced was on another level and what you did on the lower levels won't work on this level what gave you success in chapter three won't enable you to be successful in chapter nine yeah now i'm getting my comments so young folk what enables you to be successful in high school jesus won't enable you to be successful in college what you got away with as a teenager you're gonna have to go deeper as an adult god i wish i had some showers in here yeah yeah you you you got to understand some friendships were chapter three and some folk you got to leave in the last chapter because what god wants to do through you in chapter nine the chapter three folk can't hang out with you and it ain't that you better than them you just trying to be better than the you you used to be some of your chapter three ways you can't take the chapter nine some of your chapter three habits you can't take the chapter nine if you're married in chapter nine you can't act single if you want to grow spiritually you can't keep acting like you did in chapter three jesus said you ain't dealing with the same kind that's why you can't handle this you you you can't mature and be ready for new chapters if you haven't evolved young people if you still doing the same thing at 17 that you did at 13 something's wrong unless y'all think i'm just talking to the young folk if you 45 still acting like you 25. something's wrong you 45 still trying to go to the club ain't nobody talking to me now you you 50 still trying to hang out on the corner you 30 time about i miss my high school days are you crazy you you you got to mature and evolve jesus said that got you from where you were to where you are but to get from where you are to where you're going you need to realize that what got you here won't take you there it will require development that's what jesus jesus said this kind only comes out through prayer in other words jesus said in chapter three all you needed was authority but on this level you need a faith that knows how to fast and pray oh y'all y'all better hear me see you should always be in a striving posture i'm about to say something to you yeah you can just start over here tim i'm done i'm about to say something to you i i know this wasn't a shout run around the church sermon and all that but was this okay i mean was this all right was this did this help anybody did this bless did this did this bless anybody zoom did this bless it in y'all facebook to this did this bless bless any y'all um these disciples say hey jesus tell us what we messed up so that the next time we'll know what to do [Music] here what i'm about to tell you best is not a permanent state if you don't get nothing else get what i'm about to tell you because these disciples modeled this best write it down somewhere young folk put it in your notes in your phone best is not a permanent condition better is y'all didn't get it let me say it one more time best is not a permanent condition better is what do you mean by that bishop never be found saying i've done my best and that's enough because best ain't a permanent condition best is not what you ought to be reaching for the only permanent condition ought to be better y'all didn't get it because when better is the permanent condition i'm not trying to be best i'm always trying to be better i'm not trying to be best i'm i'm trying to be better i'm trying to grow i i i i want to always be better always getting better always doing better always striving for better always be a better parent always be a better child always be a better believer always be a better steward always be a better student always be a better thinker always be a better athlete always be a better musician always be a better singer always be a better servant always be a better ministry leader i don't ever want the devil to seduce me my best these disciples could have said to jesus well we did the best we could and our best wasn't good enough no they said teach us so the next time we're better you're an honor student you win the honor society you graduated with honors you graduated college you owned the dean's list do better [Music] let me say that one more time you graduated with a four-point whatever gpa you graduated on the dean's list you graduated the national honor society you graduated from college summa laude magna laude don't get satisfied better is your permanent condition you didn't graduate magna laude summa laude you just graduated thank you lordy the good news is better is available [Music] you've messed up and you've made bad choices and you've made some bad decisions better is available jesus you you you you got pregnant you had an abortion you struggled or experimented with same gender sexuality it happens but i'm here to tell you [Music] god said better still available not that you were bad for doing any of those things your value isn't equated to any of that no matter what your belief might be on any of those things that's not what your value is your value isn't knowing i can be a better person that doesn't mean i'm a bad person i can be a great person but better means i know i can be greater than the great i already [Applause] am i want to pray and that's all i got i wanted to preach something today that i i thought would help some young people and i and and i i i was very intentioned i wanted to come in and preach nothing beating young folk up they get that enough i wasn't going coming in tell them you gay or you're a lesbian and you smoking weed and you didn't i wasn't going to come in here with all of that they get beat up enough [Music] come on y'all they get beat up enough i went from coming in with all of that because some of us experimented [Music] god said no encourage them to connect to somebody that can help them be better and grow he said and then encourage the adults to stop thinking they all at and know how to grow i used to be that dude i used to be that dude you can tell me nothing i won't hear it i i won't hear it and every now and then i fall back into it still i've got god knows i've gotten much better but i used to be that dude i hear nothing you had to say i used to be that dude with my parents truth of the matter is every now and then i still am how are you 55 and you act like a 93 and 92 year old don't know what they talking about [Music] see i can't talk about y'all but talk about me how you 55 and i'm grown don't get it twisted so i may or may not take their advice but at least be smart enough to listen [Music] at least be smart enough to hear it without acting like they don't know what they're talking about you'll never grow thinking can't nobody tell you nothing you will never grow having to always be the smartest person in the room the person who has to be the smartest person in the room is also the person who's the most insecure in the room i want to be a learner i want to spend all my life learning i want to spend all my life evolving growing i want to be that way with my faith i want the lord to grow me and teach me i want to be a better preacher i want to be a better disciple i i want to be a better pastor i mean i do but that ain't my priority i want to be a better disciple cause when life gets rough it ain't my preaching that's gonna get me out it's my faith it ain't my preaching that's gonna get me out it's my maturity i wanna pray and and and then i'm done if you haven't given this morning you ought to run back and sow a seed man you ought to sow a seed this morning for giving you a word i read somebody's coming that said oh bishop you stepping in deep water this morning you ought to go back and sow a seed this morning and just say god thank you thank you for a word that didn't shout me but it grew me thank you for a word that didn't get my emotions but it got my mind go back go back and sow a seed right now if you haven't had a chance to give go back and do that right now come on everybody watching on stream and in the sanctuary about your head right now huh god i thank you for this word it it it wasn't one of those emotionally power packed but i hope it was powerful and impacting i hope somebody this morning got uncomfortable enough to say i gotta stop trying to act like i know it all help us in our insecurities god it it is one of the most powerful tools the enemy uses against us i he's used it against me all of my life and it's affected relationships it's affected the way i treat people it's affected the way i talk to people it's affected the way i learn it's even affected the way i lead and god i start with me but i ask you to trickle it down to heal us of our insecurities and to help us know that we are valuable and that we are powerful because we are in you we are made a little lower than the angels crown with truth and righteousness some young person that's in this room that deals with insecurity oh god they've suffered in silence begin to heal them right now connect them to people who will teach them not judge them love them not judge them help us as parents [Music] to be lovers and sometimes it does call for us to be strict sometimes it does call for us to have to be harsh sometimes it does but god help us to be careful with our words and careful with our actions [Music] we want to be not best we want to be better forgive us for settling [Music] shift us now somebody is assigned to help us grow help us to meet that person [Music] and then fulfill the assignment now god if there's anybody who doesn't know jesus christ as their savior this morning they might even be in the sanctuary god it might be a young person it might be an adult who came for graduation or it might be somebody watching me on stream help them to so want to be better that they're not just going to walk out of here because they came to church but they're going to give their life to jesus christ in jesus name don't sign off on stream i
