I've been thinking about this a lot what makes an artist relevant that hasn't released new music in decades would you believe it if I told you there are four artists that I can think of off the top of my head that have not released anything new in 30 years three decades but they still have massive streaming numbers now I guarantee you you can think of two of them right off the top of your head and if you said ner Nana that's definitely one of them so Nirvana has 31.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify they have two songs on Spotify that have over a billion streams Smells Like Teen Spirit 1.95 billion and C as you has 1.2 billion streams another band surprisingly the police the police have not put out a record since they put out synchronicity in 1983 the police have 29.1 million monthly listeners they have one song over a billion which is almost 2 billion plays which is Every Breath You Take which happens to be 1.95 billion plays as well if you look at the way that Spotify lists the top five songs on there they're all from different records which is pretty unbelievable Every Breath You Take roxan every little thing she does his magic message in a bottle and don't s so close to me so to me this is really obvious why the police is on this list the next on this list is Queen Queen hasn't released the record since since Freddy Mercury died Queen has 52.6 million monthly listeners I've talked about this on here how insane that is Queen has five songs over a billion spins including one over two billion spins Don't Stop Me Now 1.9 billion another one bites of dust 1.7 billion Bohemian rsity 2.4 billion Under Pressure 1.5 billion We Will Rock You 1.2 billion spins insane why is Queen so huge well they had the biopic bohemian rapsy out in 2018 and introduced them to a whole new generation of listeners but Queens also continued to tour with Adam Lambert and you can't discount the fact that Brian May is fantastic on social media he's out there all over the place and he's helped Queen stay relevant himself the fourth band on the list is the Beatles The Beatles have 36.5 million monthly listeners they have one song over a billion which is Here Comes The Sun It's 1.25 billion spins Paul McCartney and Ringo still tour and still play Beatles songs and still do many interviews although not on this channel and people are still covering Beatles songs as a matter of fact Beyonce's record which just dropped has a great version of Blackbird on it so Beatles songs have been covered Forever by all types of artists including people like West Montgomery a day in the life that he put out 19 19 67 and George Benson the other side of Abbey Road came out in 1969 people were covering the Beatles right when their records were coming out they were doing covers of them and they've covered them ever since then well let's talk about some other groups the Foo Fighters have 22.1 million Nirvana has 31 million so about 9 million more Eagles 20 million Leed Zeppelin 18.1 million Pink Floyd 18.7 million Prince 10.9 million that's surprising to me what does that mean maybe since the police only released five records there's just a limited amount of Music out there maybe because Nirvana only released five records if you think about well you got Bleach then you had the incesticide which was a bunch of bsides then there is never mind then there's inudo and then there's the unplugged that's five records yeah there were some other things after some extra releases but they had basically five records Queen had more than that the Beatles had 13 in 8 years but there's a limited amount why is it that Pearl Jam has less monthly listeners and Foo Fighters has less monthly listeners than Nirvana maybe it's because Nirvana never got old Kurt Cain will always be 27 my kids really relate to his music they relate to his lyrics when they see him even looking at their Teen Spirit video it looks like something that could be on Tik talk now that somebody would do with like this faux Nirvana thing with all the smoke and they're kind of just goofing around right they're intense but they had that comic element to it then that just is Ageless I think a thing that that that binds these bands is that they all have youthful exuberance when I listen to roxan listen any of that stuff on those police records They sound like they're and they weren't even young but they sound Young and the songs sound intense even today when I listen to roxan if that came out today I'd be like wow who is that band if Nirvana released Teen Spirit today there was no Nirvana I'd be like whoa if the Beatles released pretty much anything I'd be like whoa and Queen Bohemian rapson I'd be like what is that I mean these songs are just insanely creative it may be that simple it may be that history has decided that these are these important artist that will be famous for the next 200 years and it's already doing its thing it's just the music love to know your thoughts leave a comment hit
