Today’s Lyrics Are Pathetically Bad

hey everybody I'm Rick B so I've been thinking a lot about this lately Do lyrics even matter this is kind of a discussion I have had since the beginning of time I listen to these pop songs I do these countdowns and especially lyrics today that I hear and I was listening to this new Jack harlo song it's got 500 million plays I don't know if you know it's called loving on me you guys are going to hate this but just just bear with me for a second [Music] here [Music] baby I'll choke you but I Ain no killer baby she 28 telling me I'm a baby I get love Detroit like baby and the about your boy is okay so first of all it drives me crazy when people rhyme the same word every time I mean he says baby at the end of every line but I don't like no whips and chains you can't tie me down but you can whip your loving on me baby whip your loving on me baby I'm vanilla baby I don't like no whips of chains blah blah blah I'll choke you but I ain't no kill a baby she's 28 telling me I'm still a baby I get love in Detroit like skilla baby and then the thing about your boy is I don't like no whips and chains and you can't tie me down and then they goes on to say young J CAA AKA Rico like Suave young Enrique speaking of AKA she's an alpha I'm moving around like I'm doing a rap or something there these are God awful lyrics I'm sorry you may think that they're great I'm sure a lot of people do 500 million people listened to this song and thought it was a great lyric I'm an old guy yelling at Clouds I guess but if I heard this when I was 15 I would think these are terrible lyrics too it doesn't matter what year it is besides it's all interpretation so I was thinking to myself there's songs out there like um hm Across the Universe by The Beatles John Lennon actually wrote this song now most lyrics do not sound good when they're just read unless they exquisitely written songs I mean you can read a Joanie Mitchell lyric and it's poetry this John lenon lyric for those of you that don't know the song I can't play it on here because it'll get blocked but it doesn't matter I don't even need to play the music I just need to read it words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup they Slither wildly as they slip away Across the Universe pools of Sorrow ways of Joy are drifting through my opened mind possessing and caressing me jaru de V om nothing's going to change my world nothing's going to change my world now what does jaru de de om literally the approximation I guess literally approximation is Glory To The Shining remover of Darkness it's pretty profound second verse images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes they call me on and on across the universe that's amazing thoughts Meander like a Restless wind inside a letter box they tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe then the chorus again jaru de om nothing's going to change my world nothing going to change my world sounds of laughter shades of Life Are Ringing through my open ears inciting and inviting me Limitless Undying Love which shines around me like a Million Suns it calls me on and on Across the Universe now not only are those lyrics phenomenal but the melody that goes with it I'm going to sing this badly but you don't care here words are flowing out like inless rain into a paper cup they Slither wildly as they slip away Across the Universe pools of Sorrow waves of Joy are drifting through my open mind possessing and caressing me wow J through perfect nothing's going to change my world beautiful then nothing's going to change my world wow the melody the chord progression everything is perfect and then we go back to I don't like no whips no chains and you can't tie me down I mean this is where we've Fallen since 1968 or so this is passes for lyrics I mean it doesn't really matter I can read anything that's in the top 10 for the most part there's some songs that have some decent lyrics but for the most part all the lyrics in the top 10 on the pop charts are horrible some of you might say well that wasn't a top 10 hit cross Universe well take any of the later Beatles songs Take here comes the son take any these something in the Way She Moves these songs not only are phenomenally well written lyrically but they have incredible Melodies and beautiful chord changes okay this is boring listen to the beginning of this thing I don't like no whips and ches that's literally the quarter Step Out Of Tune it's a me it's so anemic bad it's really hard to believe that 500 million people or 500 million times this thing got played it probably got played by 5 million people 100 times each or whatever that would be I guess that's right I could pick out other songs I mean honestly Beyonce's new single that everybody freaks out about I love Beyonce you know I don't know I I I read the lyrics here and I and I think okay are these really great lyrics and uh let's see this is number 10 on the top 40 charts does Texas hold them [Music] so okay first of all I hate to stop this the banjo's playing that note B da da do you notice that Noe should be instead of ba it should be ba the fifth or ba the root ba ba I digress okay now someone should have said that note doesn't really sound very good does it it's kind of lame but then it goes in the a Texas ain't no hold them lay your cards down right they're not in Texas Park your Lexus throw your keys up so this ain't Texas okay we're somewhere else ain't no hold them so talking about card Dame so Li lay your cards down down down so park your Lexus so we have Texas Lexus okay that's that's all right I guess and throw your keys up to the valet maybe I don't know uh stick around round round around and I'll be damned if I can't slow dance with you come Pour some sugar on me honey too terrible rhyme there honey to it's a real life Boogie and a real life ho down don't be a come take it to the floor woo there's a tornado in my city hit the basement a pretty rugged whiskey cuz we surviving puffing red cup kisses sweet redemption passing time yeah so there's a tornado and you're in the basement but you're drinking whiskey out of solo red cups if you look at this song and don't get me wrong I love Beyonce Crazy and love is one of the best songs it's got two billion streams to go along with it this is written by six or seven people and produced by seven or eight people I mean really and no one said to her maybe we should work on the lyrics a little more this the thing is Beyonce is so good that you don't even realize how bad the lyrics are because her singing is phenomenal and I be damn if I dance honey she makes Bad lyrics Work come take it to the floor now there's a tornado torado I mean it's absur it's absurd they have these answer lines with these rugged whiskey we survive run me to run me to the right what is it ooh one step to the right we headed to the Dive Bar we always thought was nice nice that's a nice nice is what you write to to one of your friends when you're texting with an exclamation point nobody uses nice anymore do they and then it's um ooh run me to the left then spin me in the middle boy I can't read your mind cuz I guess he's they're playing Texas hold him and he's holding his feelings and he won't dance with or whatever I don't know lyrics don't matter right because people listen to this and they hear Beyonce's great voice and that's it that's all that matters Jack Carlo is just terrible Beyonce can actually sell these lyrics and I believe it I didn't even realize honestly that these were the lyrics When I was first listening to it I was actually at the airport getting ready to fly back to Atlanta after one of my interviews and I'm listening to the song like oh cool I like this yeah yeah then all of a sudden the lyrics kind of pop up on Spotify and I start reading the lyrics I was like oh my God and then I went back I scrolled back and listened to it and I was like wow these are horrible lyrics so to answer my first question
