we just got the three rotor running in every car that's been blown up by other people is now coming back to life and that includes the c5 here there was a goal a mission that this car was meant to complete and it didn't complete that goal it's time to finish what we started ls fest has been the goal has been the obsession the point of this vehicle it's been so much fun to mess with those guys and yet we failed at the moment we choked we had so many problems and of course then when we took it to dyno uh somebody else melted the wiring harness not putting parts back on it but no more reasons for anybody else doing that it's all my fault now if it breaks and it's our turn to make a statement so we've got some cool things planned but it is time to go mess things up at ls fest one more time but not make a complete fool out of ourselves so we're pulling the motor but not for rotary reasons i use so many of the corvette's mechanical parts including the throttle bearing so the part that the clutch is it's not meant for a baby rotary clutch it's this huge ass throw up but you'll see in a second but it is wrong it makes the pedal very hard to control and ended up breaking a cast aluminum part on the corvette trying to press the pedal down so we're going to fix that so we're not leaking clutch fluid one of my favorite things this has been kind of an uneventful process transmissions held up as well there it goes making one of these things takes so much guesswork out of this whole process so otherwise everything else with all the chains and can like start off balancing and whatnot oh my god it's horrible i decided to clear this perfectly right there the funniest thing is this is not the problem at all this whole car isn't it's the fact that i'm using a massive throwout bearing and trying to push on a tiny clutch so our throat bearings need to be much smaller so you get wider range with the same pedal throw so that's using the corvette one it's much wider and thankfully it didn't damage the clutch too much we took forever to get this in i even overnighted it and it still took a week and a half thank you fedex this is the solution to the rotary vet i've purchased tilting products in the past and this is going to solve my problems it's working on the four rotor it's going to work here so this is the current throughout bearing a hydraulic bearing that is on the rotary vent it's actually for a c5 corvette you see there's metal fragments already showing you some weirdness this is meant for like a nine inch massive clutch like most corvettes have let me show you what it looks like on a poor little rotary but here is the rotary vet clutch and you can already see how much smaller it is it is looking for a much smaller hydraulic bearing there's just not as much room and so you can see all the way out here what was going on we were using the corvette one and it was wobbling a little bit this area is pushed in more than this so it did damage the clutch a little bit but what we did is we got a smaller bearing from tilton so this is completely custom there's no part number there's no specific thing i just happen to get this one if you guys see it means nothing honestly it really doesn't this is just like the full rotor adapting systems together is mostly done right here really basic concept and in fact it looks similar to the four rotors hydraulic bearing it is much shorter but it does meet the much smaller requirements of the seven and a quarter inch clutch this is something honestly i didn't know initially when doing this i was just excited to get the depth right didn't realize the distance from the center of the teeth would make a difference if you're ever trying to adapt one engine to another you can't just buy parts online there's your solution now that will not work we actually have to measure the height difference figure all that out and get a piece of metal underneath there measured to the correct height that way we can get it all together so we're gonna add a chunk of metal probably weld it into this mill it out flat get these three bolt holes all made in there thread those in have these oh man that might be a problem if this is up higher it's gonna go into the bell housing area actually i think i did mill out the bell housing for this but you see what we're gonna have to do now this is another issue is that this is the corvette quick release part might have to adapt something or weld them together i'm not sure yet this is one of my very first times milling something out on the machine and i was all excited by it but that sits like this and this is going to sit you can already see it i'm going to have to do some more milling this is going to sit somewhere about an inch roughly somewhere in there and then this area is certainly going to be used for the hydraulic lines but it's going to take a little bit of math a little work and then all you'll see is a slab of metal going in with a big hole in the center three bolt holes on the side and it's going to magically work in one sense that's as simple as it really is while we get ready for ls fest it's nice to have eyes on the shop while i'm not here i have a lot to lose and yet i need to be out there with you guys having fun well thanks to simply safe that is possible to be in both places at once simply safe is a comprehensive security system that has cameras the door locks the base station smoke detector water flood detector temperature all the things that i actually care about i wish i knew it's almost like an ecu for a car with all the different sensors for your shop on top of keeping all of my inanimate objects safe i get to keep little kitty safe i log in and talk to her over the system make sure she's doing good because she does not leave the shop at night and i want to make sure she also doesn't trash my cars sometimes we'll catch her walking all over the diablo it really all starts right here with the base station not only does the base station have the lights on it at this beautiful thing it's a very modern look for me is it tells you what's going on right there it also does on your phone as well as the keypad one of my personal favorite things for my home back in michigan is the smart lock so the smart lock allows you to lock it manually on the inside but on the outside you can have a code and you can give different codes to different people and while my brother lives at my house back in michigan i can lock him out of my house when he doesn't pay rent it's a beautiful beautiful thing sorry yeah sorry matt but the electric bill last month was 350 bucks what the hell are you doing if you're interested in keeping both your cats and your cars safe go to simplysafe.com robdom to learn more that's simplysafe.comrobdom to get this to contact this i need that seven million bytes of code all of this what does that mean can end up being this thing and i'm getting better at all this but the fact is our goal is to make the machine cut this for us we're going to go ahead and simulate it we're going really light at first because this is my first time doing an operation like this but it's gonna go ahead and take down take down take down until we're left with this piece right here so that piece is gonna hopefully sit on top of here and it has the three holes for those right there so that'll all sit in there center area allows the drive shaft to go through and then this ring here is like a locating ring for the back side of this let's see how close i get to doing that the first version we're going to do is going to drill the holes and it's going to rough this in might take eight minutes uh we'll have a gopro inside to see how good or bad this goes this one all right here's our first test for me of milling something inside of things so that could damage this tool but we can get spares cycle start [Music] that's uh first run uh i feel like i'm going deeper than i should [Music] my problem but i'm slowing it down but it's it seems to be just chewing through it just fine dude that's crazy yeah this is uh this is a new era for me because this is the first time i didn't do it all the code by handed half of it but not this part so enjoy the time lapse we're at the very end of this it took way longer than i was expecting because i set up my math wrong whatever we're 46 minutes in and that's just a roughing phase but you see a product you see it end result and so watch as it finishes together all right that was a completed product for roughing this in oh my god look at that i finally made something that has swirl pretty marks in it wow that looks good that's supposed to be the roughing phase that's so cool getting better it doesn't know how to do circles but that's we have just a little bit left here so that way i can do the drilling go down deeper on the outer edge to break it off so this is super exciting we are going to drill some holes very quickly this coach should be much much quicker so you guys watch this so that was even quicker than i was expecting we're gonna put the piece on there and see if those holes light up that whole lines up that hole lines up it almost falls into the hub but it's meant not to we'll tap those by hand as you can see it gets close but it doesn't line up because it's you know we gotta do a finish pass now comes the finish pass i'm super curious myself never done any of this part before good luck thank you here we go i may have made a miscalculation of how far down to go or didn't take um i cut straight through and i heard a clink while one time i finally not at the machine but this time my feet held the machine stopped we're gonna go ahead and hit this that's called accuracy right there it is i i shuffled it dude yeah it did chuck it there's the hundred thousands i told it to go and i had i was gonna go down to sixty thousands but i must have not said okay to that so it started chewing chewing chewing then the last little bit it chucked it see i i got to figure out this any of you uh cnc guys i need help it looks awesome but the outer edge for some reason always now in my case ends up having that you know what it is disco it's disco ball the good news is that that outer ring doesn't matter the inner one does and it cut that one and so it also that was my biggest fears this thing's getting chucked here's the moment of truth oh yeah that's gonna press fit in there i got it yeah oh oh look at that that's that's how exactly i got the my measurements and then let's get those bolt holes lined up oh oh oh that is that's pretty damn accurate right there last measurement was to make sure it's just shy of an inch thick we're at 975 and the reason for that is i want this thing to sit right next to the clutch you want the clutch fingers not on it at its lowest position because as a clutch wears the clutch fingers actually slowly come out further and further up to maybe maybe depends on the clutch a quarter of an inch for smaller clutches if you have this here when the clutch is at brand new as it as the disks where this is going to try and push into this but this won't let it so now your cluster will actually disengage as they were so you'll slip because this is too close so we moved it back that little bit so that way it'll grow and one really cool thing about tiltons is that they self center they self locate so once once you get it close to the clutch it'll always stay right there so it's not like it's back here waiting press the clutch and then it'll be sitting here waiting and then it'll continue on so nice little room for growth we can clean that up more but the true thing is testing this and it's going to go right here probably like this rotation and then that's where it's gonna get welded in around the edge once we've got it all centered with this now up here orientation doesn't exactly matter for a bearing like this but because we want it coming out of this area it does sit like that and then we'll go ahead and put it on the bell housing and see if this all adds up is that this should sit right about there we're definitely gonna have to mill out more of the bell housing center area right there isn't big enough for getting that whole piece i just made in so we have to cut out even more out here we have some of the sharpest metal right now even though it's aluminum it'll make it cry made a little outline of what shape i want this to pass through because this is ultimately going to sit flush halfway in there so we need to mill all of that out this is a hand mill so i can't make a beautiful circle like this was knotter made that forever ago so i'm going to have to eat by hand [Applause] there you go now can pass through i might clean that up a little bit more because it might not be centered but that that looks funny here's the test fit and i've got the throat bearing fully extended so it hits this hopefully it doesn't bottom out by the time we get this all touching but none of this is actually bolted in it's really dry rough fitment okay so there's the throwout bearing right there so that's it's max throw which is really good because it's got 0.7 throw ability there we go there it is coming down [Music] okay so i've got to take some material down on my part with that step out of the way now that we've got it height cracked i'm gonna go ahead and thread one of these at least just to really get the things to all hold together to make that final measurement of course this is all kind of touch and go but threading is no fun and since i wanted this thread to be really tight i also made it with a very tight drill bit which means the machine could snap it or whatever the case is and i don't want to test the whatever the case is so i'm doing this one by hand here here take this one it'll help you on your adventures i mean i need spit in here i'm just gonna start hitting you right apart to get you all flustered i was literally like oh you're looking like on my camera i'm on camera [Music] i think some of them are overdue this is stupid because it's like three thirds showing three threes more than two you're only making 450 horsepower yeah exactly yeah i've been working it looks good man yeah you know the dodge ball where the guy's like figuring his belly button he's getting their nice deep black boy looks good it's not an ls that's for damn sure [Music] look how bad that is up there you can't even see the other side of the boat because it's holding on but by three threads like i was complaining about oh that's not good yeah that's consistent on all of them so like good thing this isn't going to make power because not a lot of you know this but uh this thing was held in by hopes and dreams no no engine bolts but today i'm hooking my boy up with some engine mount bolts and some locking nuts so it won't back out that easy [Music] working on two cars at the same time has been rather strenuous but we're finally ready to check the clutch we got it bled now i just want to feel what it feels like so much better nice and consistent nice even movement through the whole clutch pedal it's not bending the disc wrong it's got some decent feedback some force to it but it it feels so predictable unlike the previous setup very happy with that we are ready to load up but it is time to just do that last second test we're gonna go to the dyno we're gonna make less power because we're keeping it safer but that way we can thrash on it we gotta test to make sure we can thrash on it so we'll go ahead and back it out try the new clutch setup and put a little secret sauce let's see if the secret sauce works [Music] well i'm not going to ls fest without making a statement i'm supposed to be the outspoken guy here i can't be the guy that makes sense so we got this car all back together why not just anti-lag mind you the turbo is perfectly responsive there's no reason for this but there is a reason for this so let's go ahead and try this first fresh settings let's see how this [Music] works [Music] ah um that was a 5 psi unnecessarily but uh right right at it she works beautifully we could go really crazy but we won't do that just yet and leg's useless without actually launching the car we got to test the clutch right this is always dumb to do right before you're at a new event but got to do it [Music] [Applause] okay i'll be honest i think the car is gonna stick so i'd be more likely to break something because it's such high gearing but i'll try nice not nice but nice to order sound is nasty are all you guys are going to hate me for this but two motor sound is it's not that good i'm a rephrase my statement two order sounds aren't that good without a semi p bridges are cool but bridges they stumble because it's not consistent semi-ps are where it's at so we're out here and coming with this guy accidentally booked us a room with one king bed that the weirdest thing ever i i'm scared my bad there's multiple desks [Music] lincoln nebraska very nervous this is my first time in this hotel room with the older man i'm giving you good cash okay just keep coming this way can we address your packing skills yeah in my defense my shirts are folded in here nice this is this is how you properly pack you know suitcases what are they going to do seriously you know it's moments like this where you really truly know you're alive and i got some deep other thoughts too and you guys subscribe to my this is such an epic view the last time we were here was sema 2019 to unveil the four rotor running but this time we're here to shake it up a little bit more but we'll enjoy the scenery for now oh yeah this right here is what separates regular corvette owners versus z06 owners you know this is that nice ralph feel it feel it wow yeah yeah you guys can't feel that but just know that that feels like 06 on it right there oh yeah that's right champ you got it you got it right there that is exactly how you do it oh my goodness holy i just got a 401k jeez benefits oh my in my back pocket welcome to the club young man thank you sir thank you sir uh tom what time is tee off i know i look good
