[Music] this is the new prius 2021 [Applause] [Music] [Music] gran turismo used the audio from this rx-7 for the 787b give me a chicken trophy chop what's up guys javier from that racing channel back again for another episode with jack from hp logic and today we have a special guest we have logan coming from all the way from ohio to find autoworks he brought his absolutely insane four-rotor mazda rx-7 this is likely one of the loudest idling cars i've ever heard my entire life it about pierced my eardrum just idling on cold start i cannot wait to show you guys let's check it out don't stand in front of the exhaust i promise you it was worth the hearing loss honestly holy that is legit the most wild sounding car i've ever heard in person period every aspect of this car is just a 10 out of 10 wild absolutely insane our little tc sticker boom 10 horsepower how do you feel about that sir bro i don't have words to describe how insane this is this is like the coolest car i've ever seen in my life and you being a prior rx-7 rotary owner oh yeah no this is this this is like right up your ass like get go into forza get an rx7 and max everything out and this is what you get this is sick man this is this is pretty much the closest thing we're ever going to see in person to like a 787b so they actually use the audio from this car for the 787 in gran turismo from this exact car what jack i gotta ask you what do you think of this thing bro man okay listen i'm gonna be 100 honest with you trc you got some really cool cars the coolest in the world but for me this is now the coolest period it does not get better than this for me this is in essence an embodiment of my spirit this is my spirit car it really is i mean yeah i think i think it's i think yours is sitting right under here right now but it's just it's just it's just missing a rotor to be fair the same guy built this motor so i mean this car was technically put together with the same dna so you have to understand if this was like the messenger that's the god to see it in the flesh and to hear it to hear it oh man the second that started i honestly i didn't think it was going to be that loud i didn't either i mean it's hard to believe that that much sound can come from 2.6 liters right you know so it's like it's so wild that right now this three-rotor rx-7 is gonna sound pretty tame compared to what we were just listening to and i don't know if the camera will do it justice and how loud the other car is but this car is absolutely amazing as well pretty wild cooling setup it did do quite a bit of modification to get that forwarder in there huh it says stock massage man i cannot wait to go ride this thing you mind explaining this stuff here real quick yeah so these are the uh late sway bars which uh i robbed those off daytona prototype half spares and they have blades actually rotate and so their full soft system it reflects and then full vertical it goes through the entire bar wow and this is a really really quick uh thing i made i was like low on sleep and have mega tracking inside is like fabricated this out of things i had laying around but that adjusts the rear bar and adjust the front bar that's wild so [Music] me oh my god dude dude covering my ears still wasn't enough yeah when he when he stabbed the throttle and grabbed it up it was like what it sounded just like the 787 we've officially had upset the neighbors a couple people came out and asked what in the world is this thing and to get the hell out of here all right logan give us a little bit more of an in-depth uh walk around here so let's start with the engine bay it's kind of weird on how it's a lot going on but it's all kind of covered up and simplified looking from the outside but yeah basically the whole firewall uh removed the stock firewall moved it back a little bit and that just gave it you know more clearance to the engine to work on because i had the motor so far back in the chassis this four rotor is actually lighter than the twin turbo 2 rotor so this motor is about 25 pounds lighter wow than a stock twin turbo i didn't know that man which a lot of people always like well you went forward or how did you deal with all the weight balance issues well it's actually lighter it's actually lighter than a stock motor and then being that far back that makes this car actually rear heavy so it's 51 rear heavy 49 front so for a front engine car to be rear heavy um that took a lot of thought and careful placement of things and this is obviously a track inspired car this is in a straight line car doesn't make all the horsepower in the world but i imagine just the this thing's probably just on rails literally i mean there's a 345 on the back 345 on the back 335 on the front these are gt500 uh race only wheels that the japanese race teams got and i got a fortune up to find a set uh so they're all monologue forged magnesium wow really wide lightweight but yeah when it comes to like racing and you know especially road racing i've never been a huge horsepower junkie in general i mean i appreciate high horsepower stuff especially if you're using like drag racing give everything it's got but for road racing i mean if you really watch how fast like a spec miata is with 100 some horsepower and how fast with a really good driver can go that puts it all in perspective this car is like a ferocious intense experience to be on the pasture side like i said started with kind of like a cardboard template and you'll notice i had to hack out everything um that's one of the things that make the like pro gt300 gt500 cars look so nasty i realized they're extremely low of the ground and they have these really large tires and so the tire is like up into the body work so you notice i had a cap here for the hood and you can see how much how much distance i needed tire clearance normally if it's a little lower for the racing um but all this had to get deleted you know so that entire upper frame rail is gone and i restructured the whole chassis to accommodate that and then the rear the entire thing just topped out massively and that just looks like so let's go back there and take a look at it yeah everything's just completely uh basically hacked out like the other there's kind of an upper frame right here that absolutely completely deleted it just gives it such a menacing stance too yeah got a little bit of junk there on the lower muffler holding that it scrapes the ground and they black flag me on the track it was sparking oh man we're gonna take this thing out on the road a lot of people think that it's not legal but it's registered insured and it's registered insured yeah it's got the the street and stuff full street car guys yeah it can do it all right guys so i got my ear protection because this is so needed we got jack three runner logan's four rotor [Music] [Music] yep [Music] foreign [Music] so we were just saying we need to fill it up and i thought he was gonna have to go put some race fuel in it but he's like let's go to the pump and pump some 93 in it so you do some 93 and some good old two-cycle remix here cycle so out of curiosity man what would it cost to replicate that engine like somebody if they wanted to just build that just per se um that exact motor they're pretty expensive because all the exotic you know ceramic apex seals housings and everything so motor only probably like 60 to 67 or for the the workhorse that lasts i mean this thing that's i mean you just put through his faces over and over and over again you're telling me i don't care if it was on camera or not but that you've been racing this car for how many years with the engine the way it is or coming up on eight years wow yeah eight years of hard wild the common thing online is always rotaries and reliability don't go in the same sentence you know i changed it all once a year and you know it runs on 93 octane i change spark plugs once a year it's really low maintenance i mean the engine just keeps doing its thing that's great man well let's test them into the the work you do man it is possible to do it you just gotta set it up right yeah make sure it's fed all the stuff all the nutrients at once you know make sure there's oil pressure and you don't overheat it get a little hungry you want to take this thing to a drive-through or what dude i'm starving let's do this [Music] anytime anytime you want to drive 24 hours from ohio to give me a ride i'll buy you one right this is the new prius 2021 [Music] four things [Music] uh [Music] your turn buddy i can't hear you your turn i'll tell ya i couldn't hear my i was like man my car sounds good then all of a sudden i'm like oh i don't hear my car anymore all right so we got our death ray button that's right button you're gonna kill me buddy you know just flip that right on i'll take death ray on please that's right oh buddy man it's gonna be turned into a different type of shoot yeah jack i don't know we're ready all right dude you ready for this i don't know man i don't know how did that sound going by insane bro it's like the heavens opened up dude it's a wild experience go ahead and jump in and we'll get you strapped in bro [Music] hey [Music] oh it pierces your ears when it flies by you i don't know if the camera's gonna do that any justice but man that is so wild [Music] my man how was that dude that i mean like just like jax life-changing man life-changing that was insane dude like i have no words to describe like how it feels i mean the breaking the sheer braking force it feels like your face is gonna come off it's insane right it's insane i mean the sounds through the sounds the whole experience is just like 11 out of 10. so jack this is a big moment for you this is a big moment dream car status it's an important moment for me this is the top of the mountain for for your old man here enjoy it brother you know [Music] hmm hmm jack how was that man i'd say i realized it i realized the top it's just no there's nothing left i might fall over later and it'll be fine the brakes are warmed up now oh yeah right yeah the brakes were working there [Laughter] i think the perfect way to describe this car is just complete sensory overload we didn't even get into cornering so i mean that's where this car is really going to shine obviously it's fast straight line it's light makes power it revs high but the cornering is really this really shines so we got it we got gotta see if we can meet up with him and do a track day or something because [Music] this this honestly just blew my mind this is one of the coolest things i've experienced huge huge thank you to logan to find auto works this thing is an absolute amazing machine all right man i gotta say that was one heck of an experience sensory overload this thing gets a massive trc approved stamp it's just gonna take up the whole screen ultimate rotary edition give us a rundown on that incredible machine right behind you right there so it's a full rotor engine which is um honestly custom built a lot of custom machine work inside a custom essential shaft the gears are custom machined rotors are using 9.71 rotors out of the second generation rx7 two millimeter ceramic apex seals it's a custom dry sump system that i developed where it has a completely flat plate on the bottom of the motor so power wise it can make 610 to the wheels at a little over 10 000 rpm taking it to 11 000 a few times just to you know kind of stretch its legs a little bit i'll maybe revisit that later right now it's in a power to weight class which uh you're only allowed to have so much horsepower for how much the car weighs [Music] it's full peripheral port straight into the motor no side ports at all everything is capped off and filled in it uses aluminum side housings to reduce the overall weight of the motor the exhaust system is all custom uses like a v-band system they're 2-inch primaries 321 stainless it merges a little different than a standard if there is such a thing as a standard four rotor but most like the 787b are really well known forwarders they have a four to one collector this uses a four two one mainly uh it gives a little more mid-range and also easier on ground clearance because the two pipes are side-by-side the rest of the exhaust is a four inch so once it collects together it goes four inch out the back the standalone system is an electromotive it actually uses two ecu's at the moment so it has an electromotive tech gt that runs the leading ignition and the injectors and then it has an xdi2 which actually runs the trailing efficient radiator system so it has a nascar radiator that i sourced out that kind of keeps it going attempts to land shack there's a lot of modifications on the outside of the motor that actually re-prioritizes how the coolant flows to the block and that just helps tremendously with keeping everything even this this car i can beat on non-stop and it won't even budge on the cold temperature just stays at like 86 degrees regardless of how hot it is outside oil coolers are seat traps so it uses two uh 50 row i think the 50 55 row c traps really large in the front bumper and there's actually an auxiliary oil puller in the rear which was a converted intercooler and that's on what they call the low pressure side so on a dry stomp it pulls the oil out of the motor and then it gets sent to the oil tank at the back of the car so there is no oil pan and on the way there it has that external auxiliary oil cooler that will kick on that just it's kind of supplemental at this point the clutch is a five and a half inch tilton triple disc and the flywheel is a four and a half pounds really lightweight all aluminum flywheel so that kind of gives us ultra fast rep capabilities the rotors are obviously super light in the motor too so everything that was rotational i tried to pull as much weight as i could out of it to really make it insanely fast forever honestly it runs a little too fast but that's never a bad thing in racing it makes the throttle blips easier it has a sayings six-speed sequential transmission they're located out in argentina make formula one transmissions and stuff like that if thinking about going to a paddle shifts in the future maybe this winner might like to visit that just because some of the corners come up so quick on the racetrack it'd be nice to not have to take your hand off the wheel draft shots aluminum custom drive shaft rear is actually a stock mazda rear end uh only thing that's different is it has a cause limited slip 1.5 way axles since the suspension was custom widened for the wider body work the axles were drowned it has custom stub axles the cvs are stock a lot of stock mixed with custom on this car um the sloppy asked me like what's even stock left in it but the sub frames are stock the knuckles in the front and rear stock just the control arms were grown which are all custom the dry shaft was lengthened but otherwise i mean there's still a lot of stock dna in the car it's just been like an evolution of kind of to the extremes suspension wise using penske four-way adjustable so it has high speed low speed bound and rebound in both directions spring rate are pretty high 1200 1200 pound front springs and like 1300 pound rear springs so braking system was also sourced from a nascar they are forged forged aluminum monoblock calipers really really wide so uses you know extremely thick brake pads or over one inch thick per side so it's kind of an endurance braking system not really large on diameter they're only 13 inches in diameter front and rear but the rotor is you know a little almost a one and a half inch thick rotor lots of airflow going through it none of it's actually ducted whatsoever i don't have front or rear brake ducts and um you know full tilt just wailing on it lap after lap they never overheat so having any issues with brake fade whatsoever but i mean it's kind of the benefit of using like a motor sports setup is it's designed to stop the nascar that weighs you know a heck a lot more than this and it's going 200 miles an hour i'm not ever achieving those speeds so it's just over engineered for what i'm using it for so yeah gran turismo did record this car for the um gt sport gt sport the latest the latest one out yep and that's insane dude is this audio for the 787b they had to tweak it ever so slightly um goliath was only able to get about 9 000 on the dyno that day so yeah it was used in gran turismo uh for the audio on the 787b that is wow how did that come about because like this is maybe the only one they get their hands on or yeah at the moment there was something with the 787b they couldn't get a hold of it to do the sound capture and they didn't want to use their old files um so they were looking on online and youtube and everything else and they came across my car and saw those natural aspirated forwarder that was racing had the right kind of high pitch you know sound that they were going for so they reached out to me and said hey this is you know i'm such from sony and we're trying to get some recording that is so cool i definitely was full circle for me because a lot of the development of this car and how it looks uh came from like grants first before um a while back i was injured and basically i was just stuck playing grandchildren before for hours a day and there was a green wide body rx-7 in that game and that really kind of that narrative were the two main inspirations for how wide and crazy looking it is is just that's so cool man to live out your your childhood fantasies so now every time i open the garage door it's cool because it's kind of like having the real-life gran turismo garage and you do everything yourself right like i mean you mentioned a lot of stuff and normally it's like this guy built the engine this guy did the chassis yeah but but from what at least from what jack i think mentioned you did most of this yourself yeah it's probably like 95 a lot of in-house you know fabrication obviously i got my machinists to do a lot of machine work to custom adapt like the brakes onto the hubs and then you know eccentric shaft is not done by me and a lot of machining help but any other fabrication any welding um you know anything like that i'm the one that's doing it i just don't do body work uh so i have my body i'd go through the body and paint it and i don't do the machine work but everything else yeah that's what's happened and i heard you talking to jack earlier you mentioned that this started off like with cardboard or something to to mock it all up and you did it yourself or yep yep i mean i kind of had a couple books on how like racecar fabrication and body fabrication and everybody usually uses fiberglass my issue with fiberglass i didn't exactly know how to make the left and right side identical to each other without a whole complex process because you know you make a bowl for one it's not exactly you can't just pop it inside out and do the other side so that's when it hit me when i was looking at the gt cars modern bodies really aren't that rounded they have curves to them but they always have like a sharp edge and i was looking at more i'm like you know what i think if i could make it out of cardboard flat sheets of cardboard and lay them together then aluminum could be used to basically just weld the seam and achieve the you know a relatively relatively speaking easy to manufacture your body and then you just flip the template from one side the other and you have a virtually identical uh symmetrical body without the complexity so that's super cool man yeah mission complete dude i can't thank you enough okay this was one heck of an experience wow that's amazing that's great guys i i think the car is getting quieter i think oh as you lose your hearing it gets quieter oh yeah look i don't even need hearing protection now please i'm good to go he's already growing up [Laughter] all right guys it's been an absolute blast here we'll see you guys next time later [Music] you
