Texas Sized APARTMENT TOUR! Why I Moved to Dallas

just got word i am all set to check in i actually have never been to this apartment before uh i had some local friends scouted out for me and they said it's nice so i will be seeing this place uh for the first time just like you guys will so when we get there we'll do a little apartment tour i'm excited i'm a little nervous because uh yeah this is my new place hope it'll work out [Music] so first impression of texas a lot of mosquitoes and a lot of people have been messaging me telling me to be careful because texas doesn't have a mask mandate anymore um honestly everywhere i went people had a mask on like the hotel required a mask the place i went to yesterday everybody was wearing a mask and of course people have different opinions on this i personally just feel more comfortable with the mask and so far i felt pretty safe and of course uh if you haven't guessed by now i am in dallas texas it was a really tough decision trying to decide whether to go to dallas or go to houston uh finally i chose dallas for a lot of reasons i'll explain later but right now let's go see my new apartment [Music] that's interesting i wonder why there's two deadbolts for a balcony door did things try to break into your balcony door here in texas like a giant spider or something huh nice balcony the weather is nice not humid at all views not as nice as my last place all right this is it so this is cool the biggest kitchen island i've ever had look at all these drawers ah a double fridge in an apartment didn't have this in seattle what is this a wine rack i'll be putting soy sauce on that okay this is the only thing i don't love electric stove same as the last place but gas is so much better microwave oh everything is so new dishwasher yes yes yes check out the bedroom so a fan on top i guess it gets hot probably need an ac unit around the window and this is the bathroom look at this look how big it is closet closet it's actually a two bedroom place so this is the second bedroom closet oh huge closet and this is the second bathroom with this little closet [Music] and a huge bathtub since i don't know how much time i'm going to spend here just thinking maybe uh get someone to live here as well i'm gonna share the place but this place is the reason why i moved here the rent i was paying in seattle the rent here is half and it's maybe three times bigger than my last place like i mean i know it's going to be a lot bigger i know texas you know that's your thing everything is bigger oh full-size washer and dryer this is actually a laundry room like a room i could walk into to do my laundry instead of just like a look at my kitchen there's so much space so much space uh let's do all with all this also got a welcome pack from the managing people what is there's a mug paper towel that was almost scary oh oh what is this oh it's wine a wooden box oh a wine opening mechanism thing that i honestly have no idea what to do with that a tennis ball a second bottle of wine they really don't know me at all and the most valuable thing in the bag toilet paper all right i'm gonna start moving some stuff up then we'll continue the tour to new beginnings fresh starts and probably a ton of barbecue promised you guys to tour of the place but i haven't had anything to eat all day so hopefully i'm surrounded by some good food so apparently there's a a bunch of little vietnamese trip malls around here this whole place is called oak ridge plaza cali saigon mall [Music] all right so this place specialty is who deal i don't know if i've seen that right clear noodles it's a little different than pho because mainly because of noodles and i came here at like four o'clock so that's why over here all by myself happily by myself [Music] oh this is really good i've never had this before it's so weird you would think i would have run into this dish somewhere but i i don't remember it anywhere really fatty porky broth with i think what is this pork skin on top yeah little pieces of pork skin floating on top how crazy is this oh this is delicious like super oily but also very light this thing you 100 needs something i mean i could eat it on its own like this but i need some vinegar i need some chilies [Music] mmm much better i need more i've got to put this whole thing i need i need the vinegar oh this is also vinegar with garlic inside it definitely needs the acid [Music] oh i'm so good now noodles are really chewy they've been sitting in the sprouts for a while also this is my first meal today this is exactly what i needed i'm finally in a land of good vietnamese food sorry new york wasn't amazing seriously how come i never had this before pork broth slices of pork with little bits of chicharron floating on top seriously amazing huge benefit about being here in texas tons of vietnamese people much much better vietnamese food giant piece of liver too my noodles are still super chewy first official meal in texas not too bad not too bad i'm pretty sure if this coffee was part of the avengers thor wouldn't be able to snap his finger oh so strong i may never sleep again this is so good you got a little pork skin sinking to the bottom a chives is great too and the scallions nothing i don't love about this apparently toilet paper is a short supply in this state this is home for now i'm trying to be really minimalistic i'm good this is my bed now i'm not going to buy a bed i'm not going to get a bed i've got this bed i got carpet coming and i got that floor couch i had earlier in washington coming that is it that's all the furniture i'm going to own uh all my clothes fit into one closet that's it i'm not gonna have anything moving from washington that was such a headache i don't want to repeat that again uh but yeah this is my life right here my room [Music] finally finished packing took a shower this place folte dough i am just taking full on hi advantage of all the good vietnamese food here in dallas and this place is supposed to have amazing way finally getting everything moved in and then second bowl of vietnamese noodles today good to be in a city where vietnamese food is actually really good and this place this is their specialty well that is a good bowl of spicy beef broth i think last time i had something this good was in portland there's definitely a place i'll be coming back to a lot and it's only like 15 minutes from my house pig trotter good vietnamese food that's part of the reason i came to dallas i kid you not i'm so happy with this great bowl of food this morning and now this this is satay i think some shrimp paste this is beyond good also i'm in this area where i'm kind of surrounded by chinatown i think there's a korea town about 20 30 minutes away there's a bunch of these um little vietnamese strip mall complexes within about 15 minutes from me so far loving my first day here oh it's a big old chunk of blood i think vampires are missing out stop biting people's necks and drinking that season stuff come here and get some of this you can chew it that's delicious you can have it with a nice bowl of noodles it was 100 the best ball bomb boy i had in a long long time bottom is the best part i don't know what it is about vietnamese soup noodles this makes my stomach feel so good just don't wear white shirts when you come here i dressed for the occasion i splattered a lot oh that was so good also that big bold noodle soup ten dollars feels so good this is like the perfect weather right now i think it's about 65 outside right now it's just cool evening breeza blowing the moon's out something in the air i'm not sure if i'm smelling texas or still smelling that chunk of blood as you say my tummy is warm the weather feels great i like this moment of texas right now i really like it i really have no idea what i'm walking to anyone's going to go home and go to bed all right see you guys in the morning i went to bed on a nicely inflated um air mattress and i woke up i think i might have a leak in my bed sorry last night i completely zonked out so right now let's go explore this building together i don't really know anything about this building so this says play okay i like to play this is pretty cool resident lounge you get well this is the fanciest connect four i've ever seen fridge pool table you can sit by the fire in texas you get a chill here whatever this is how do you play this did i just win i have no idea oh there's a computer room oh there's a printer it's actually really nice to see a printer here because oftentimes you like you need to print the document i don't know about you i haven't had a printer in like 10 years that's nice to see oh you can like meet with people here you can just i guess rent out one of these places and meet with clients at your own apartment this is what i've been looking for flex [Music] this is my favorite piece of equipment at any gym just because it allows me to build up my boobs and i won't get crushed to death if i'm working out alone at three in the morning oh check this out this is really cool they have wet towels oh scented too lemon lavender that's pretty fancy oh yeah way more equipment than my last apartment gym oh there's two floors to this place i love this machine you can bike you can roll you can play with the heavy balls wow so there's a place where you can actually go online and just use this space with a virtual instructor this is really neat actually come here and do like insanity whatever like what is it 2000 x by now the best part is there's nobody here so i think this building this whole apartment complex is still pretty not filled up so i'm gonna enjoy this as much as i can before it becomes way crowded but this is a beautiful workout space wow this is a rooftop pool i mean eventually it's going to be a rooftop pool then you can park on the roof if you want not sure why you will want to but you could if you wanted to there's a ping pong table there's a throwy thingy oh look at this [Music] not as comfy as my lawn chair back in washington but this will do for now i was having a really tough choice um deciding whether to move to dallas or move to houston and i was always leaning towards houston because the food scene was more traditional food mom and pop shop and dallas was more modern more fusion stuff so i tend to gravitate towards the more traditional stuff and also houston has a direct flight to taipei so if i ever want to get a visa for taiwan it'd just be really convenient to commute to houston and the reason why ultimately i i came here was a couple reasons like one i really hate humidity i i hate it so so much i think houston is way more humid than dallas i'm not sure that's what i was told but ultimately the biggest reason was that um i actually know people here in dallas and one of the worst things about um having a place in seattle was i really didn't know anybody so uh whenever an important document was sent to my house where a paycheck was sent to my house in washington i couldn't get access to it unless i flew back and got it myself and yes i know you can forge your address but i'm overseas a lot and i just don't want to deal with that whole mess so if things do open up more this year and i'm traveling a lot more overseas this is going to become a real issue also because i know people here and i have a spare bedroom i can rent it out or sort of sublease the apartment when i'm not here i wanted to cut down on my rent cut down on my expenses and like i said this apartment here is is about almost half the cost of my apartment in washington huh that looks like a hornet anyway also i felt that you know driving four hours to houston or four hours to austin i think what six seven hours to new orleans it's still within drivable distance so i guess it really didn't matter too much where i stayed so yeah welcome to dallas to me also speaking of food now that i've moved in there's a place i've been thinking about for a long long time let's go right now [Music] there it is this is what i've been thinking about ever since i got into texas hey what a burger when i see this i think a wonder woman could i get a uh avocado bacon burger jalapeno cheese whataburger two honey butter chicken biscuits one biscuits and gravy an apple pie a sweet tea and a dr pepper shake all right found a local park eat my whataburger i've always wondered why the reviews are are kind of bad at every single location i think it's a little things like i did not get forks for my biscuits and gravy i didn't get the sauces that i wanted the spicy mayo is not here there's no napkins i'm gonna have to fashion a fork for my biscuits and gravy luckily for me it's really just about the food this is crazy though dr pepper shake it tastes exactly like it says it's a milkshake and tastes like dr pepper i guess i can just take the biscuit and just dunk it in the gravy oh it's good oh this is so frustrating because i see the chunks of sausage in here i want to get to it and my biscuits is broke all right this is delicious it would definitely be more delicious if i could actually the meatier part of this gravy where all the nice pieces of sausage reside delicious but a huge inconvenience also they give you a lot of gravy i'm just gonna take this home take this gravy home because there's so many more things i can just pour this thing on i'll get this again next time i'm asking for two biscuits this is the honey biscuit chicken sandwich something like that and i got two sauces creamy pepper and jalapeno ranch it's really dry it's really dry if you can see there's really not a lot of chicken in this fried chicken there's a ton of batter a little bit of chicken sauce is really good biscuit i like but it's just so much better in here oh the sauce is so good the creamy pepper sauce that is delicious i like that sauce more than i like the sandwich i'd be okay just getting a couple biscuits and a cup of the sauce i also got the jalapeno ranch by the way the biscuit is really good i mean it's so crumbly but that's what makes a good biscuit jalapeno wrench is even better just as a musket sauce wow this is good this thing made my kind of dried chicken amazing it gives it like a nice spicy mexican flair yeah that's my favorite sauce i got my jalapeno burger right now you know what i feel when i'm holding this i feel cold it's cold like i'm not kidding you it's it's cold burger looks huge and it looks delicious but it has no heat yeah it's delicious okay it's so good but there's no heat in here like it feels like this burger has been sitting there for at least half an hour i think what might have happened was because one of the staff saw us and it was kind of like oh you guys haven't got your order yet i think they left us city there for a long long time the burger is still really good the patio is delicious huge flame licked beef flavor vegetables are fresh it's great sauce is good the cheese is melty it just tastes like a better version of a burger king whopper but it kind of do8 on me you know i make this better [Music] it's like a creamy salsa that's so delicious and i can just imagine what this thing tasted like you know when it's hot bacon avocado ranch burger this is a true texas-style burger right here bacon avocado big patty tomatoes onions on texas toast despite this burger also probably sitting in this bag for half an hour before it got to me bacon is still crispy this one tasted much better to me also the toast is great because it's a little burnt so you get that nice shower and a bit of bitterness to it especially good ones got the extra heat from the sauce the avocados creamy this is really good i think this thing like right off the grill if the outside is a little toasty this would be even better last thing i got is the whataburger apple pie it looks pretty much like a mcdonald's apple pie i'm trying to really like my first whataburger experience after many years because last time was so good papyrus dry i would give this whataburger experience maybe two and a half maybe three stars out of five burger flavor was really good that was probably the highlight of everything i ate actually i think the highlight is dr pepper milkshake because you know it's supposed to be cold everything else i i can taste the potential of it being really good but as current estate it's it's not great and that stale apple pie just kind of put it over the top for me i feel like the food has definitely aged a lot while i was waiting for it well i am in plano this is supposed to be the chinese area of uh of dallas i think let's go find a better lunch so i was looking for some dumplings don't feel right to go so long without eating a good soup dumpling kitchen master looks good look at it they're making dumplings fresh over there so this place is kind of like a ding tai foam looking place with people making dumplings behind the glass and this is one thing new york will always have going for it is the quality and the price of soup dumplings you can get six soup dumplings in new york before about if you go to the right place you can get them for as cheap as five dollars like delicious ones for about five bucks everywhere else the growing rate seems to be around nine 10 11 [Music] oh that's good this is the chili oil wontons the wrappers are thin huge meaty filling that is worth the money wow very good soup dumplings let's see oh oh oh no no no no no no no no no no that's delicious very good soup dumplings i mean the price is a little steep i think it's nine dollars for uh for six well that's so good thin skin tons of soup pork filling is delicious all right this is a good place for a soup dumpling i might have just found my soup dumpling spot there's just so much nice fat in that broth okay so this place uh wu wei ding chinese cuisine this is i think the most popular chinese restaurant in the dallas area um everyone i know has been telling me to come here and there's no dining so take my stuff go get it at home so i got some dun dun noodle i got some beef noodle soup i got some pork chop over rice soup dumplings and spicy wontons all right cool i think these are better than the ones i just have oh delicious see how thin the skin is you can see all that juice that's in here dunk it in some hot oil this is now my go-to soup dumpling place this place oh those are so good these are the steamed dumplings with chive pork and shrimp awesome same thin skin and just load it with filling one whole giant shrimp in every single dumpling i don't love this folding method this is what i call a klingon folding method you know kind of looks like a klingon it scrunches a lot of the dough on top so you can see here right here it becomes a little too doughy and thick but the filling is fantastic this is the pork chop over rice look at that minced meat on the bottom big thick cuts of pork chop pork chops a little dry don't love that but the minced meat on the bottom of the rice is really really good yeah there's a little too dry maybe dunk it into the hot oil better but it's still dry this i'm really excited about this is like one of the most popular dishes and when you pour the sauce in you got to make sure you get all that sesame paste that's on the bottom see good things always sink to the bottom you know like gold and sesame paste one of the best things i have today that is good if you come here that is not your must try list they put a lot of sesame paste in here which i love i love sesame paste it just kicks that aroma into hyperdrive and it's so meaty and creamy and saucy 100 in love with this wow i want to dump a dumpling in here i'm going to take one of these dumplings the sauce do not waste the sauce gotta show them also i got their chili oil wontons [Music] everything i had here is top-notch and the last thing i wanna try i'm trying to speed through this stuff i drove it here you know so it's been in my car for like 15 minutes it's like asking halle berry to wait in the waiting room it just shouldn't be done i think these noodles are sauced up already so you can just eat it like this and then drink the soup i think that's what's supposed to happen i really didn't expect much from that because it doesn't look like it has tons of sauce on here yet but these noodles even though they were just kind of touching these big chunks of beef already absorbed all that insane beef flavor just by touching it it's there that's unbelievable and now just dip some of that in the soup wow that's good this is how tender this beef is just breaking apart one-handed with my chopsticks i am a solid believer of this place now this food is so good it deserves my favorite hot oil the crispy garlic what a great place i will be coming back here a lot i'm sure [Music] oh yeah i'll definitely be back this is my fruitful restaurant today and probably half a day tomorrow i'm just gonna stay home i got a lot of stuff to do here works i need to catch up on uh still stuff that i need to unpack but pretty fun spinning habits exploring my local surroundings here in my new home oh also i forgot to talk about the the restaurant i have a restaurant that's opening with a bunch of friends in houston called called uh carne steakhouse it's gonna be a korean barbecue restaurant it's gonna be amazing and as it's opening i'm gonna have to be there so that's why i also wanted to move to texas and the reason why it's okay for me not to be in houston and rather in dallas is one it's it's a close enough drive four-hour drive it's not horrible to get over there and stay the days i need to stay in houston also the second reason is if this restaurant does well which we all think it will because it's the chef's amazing the the meat we procure is amazing we will open a second location here in dallas those are a couple things to uh look out for i think our first restaurant in
