Tesla Model 3 & Y - 2021 In Depth Accessory Guide \\ What I still Use After 16 Months

[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] okay so i know all of you tesla loving hard-working people love tricking out your tesla and personalizing it so today i'm gonna help you spend some of your money so what i'm gonna do because there's so much information is i'm gonna go down below and put a bunch of different sections down in the description and you can go and jump to whatever section you're actually interested in so here are the topics that we're going to actually focus on today outside of your car accessories trunk accessories useful apps tesla's key options so a couple different options for keys interior preservation and protection accessories and then functional and fun accessories that's going to be probably the biggest section so before we get going please consider the links and the discount codes for each of these products if they exist so today i'm going to cover mostly bullet points of each of these accessories if you want to see the full review on a lot of these go and watch the full video today we're going to get through some of these and show you what the most important ones are for each of these categories so let's get started we're going to start with outside of the car so first we have the han chow motorized front lifts you can install these all by yourselves heck i did it took me about seven hours factoring in that i am terrible at this sort of thing and at least one third of that time i was moving around cameras so that's a lot of time they can be opened and closed from inside the car and or from an app actually like the stats out you know and they really make the front more usable and we're going to talk about some other accessories to help with that too one of the greatest parts is the soft close that comes with each kit removing the need to jump on your hood to close it each time and you can pick these up for 425 dollars plus tax with my discount code cf tesla next we'll go around the back of the car to the hanshaw motorized trunk lifts [Music] now these are a no-brainer and probably one of my favorite accessories especially with the kick plate sensor it just adds incredible functionality you can press the trunk release and it will open then press the new button you install inside and it will close i mean this should come on the car anyway i mean 60 thousand dollars you really notice the benefit of these when you were coming from the car when you know the rain you got your arms full of groceries you can walk right up just kind of kick your foot down there maybe hit the remote tell siri and it opens up right there for you it's just incredible these are also the exact same price as the frunk lifts so a lot of times people buy these in a set together and the discount works individually for each of these items the next accessory outside the car is the mud flaps i have had these on for 11 months and i thought i would take them right off after i installed them but they look so cool that they're still on there today they add some character a little bit different than every other tesla they help protect the paint from gravel as well as nasty road grime they are very easy to install they use the existing screws in the fenders except one place where you will screw it into the wheel wall but don't worry it's not metal or anything it's actually kind of like a hard plastic and it's not going to ruin anything these i highly recommend for anyone who lives in an all-weather climate someone has all the different seasons like we do here in washington and you can pick these up for 33 on amazon so the last accessory outside is the quick bandit plate mount on this one you pay a premium price of 129 plus tax because you're buying a premium product you don't have to stick your anything on the car like you know like sticky stuff you see a lot of people buying or drill holes into your car this is easy on and is easy off it is one of the most amazing engineered little pieces i've seen for the front license plate now it's not enforced in washington so i don't have mine on the car but for those who do this is a high quality option and someday if they make me i'll put it on now let's go inside the trunk and see what we got in there i keep three accessories inside the trunk first you have the trunk liner [Music] if it is raining hard like it does often here in washington water can run down the back window right into the carpet and inside your trunk in a previous video i poured water on it with a bucket in the back window and much of it flowed down inside of my trunk that just it's just the way that it lines up the window in the trunk there if it's going any kind of speed just goes right over into it but when you have this mat in the back it really doesn't matter but the most important reason for these pads is your trunk is the main place for throwing all your crap snowboarding gear home project materials etc you know all go in your trunk or in your boot if you're canadian all right there you go canadian viewers not only do you not want mud or snow back there but it protects it from tears and you know other damage so i recommend getting one of these with ledges on it you can see mine has like an inch about an inch and a half ledge all the way around just to keep it all in there together mud snow stuff like that that might come off your boots it just does a really great job for that and you can pick these up on amazon for 60 bucks for organization in my trunk i've been sent many items to review but this one by bogue rv is by far my favorite [Music] you get outside compartments it is collapsible so you can store underneath you know that little secret compartment in the back if you wanted to i keep things like cleaning supplies in there uh you know bug spray stuff like that my wife puts loose items in there while she's grocery shopping that's just what moving around rolling around eggs milk stuff like that you can buy this on amazon as well for 60 bucks also i keep in there my car tray by elon accessories [Music] this one believe it or not gets used way more than i thought it would it is actually firm on the steering wheel making it easy to work on a laptop or eat and i do this a lot cause i oftentimes work for my car to use it all you do is you turn the steering wheel upside down slide it in place and you're good to go you can adjust it based on how you and where you put it on the steering wheel it's hard plastic and it really does great you are putting a little strain on the wheel material but i don't think it's used enough to really do any damage i mean maybe if you use this every day or work from your car all day you might put on enough damage to make a difference but i don't really think it's going to and you can find this on their website for 40 bucks and again the link's down in the description so the next accessory starts in the trunk and goes into the interior of the car and there are these ambient lighting and it looks awesome [Music] they're in the trunk and the driver and passenger foot area these blue led lights made a huge difference trying to see at night the lights that come in the car are very dim especially in the trunk and you really can't see much i need to point out though that if you have a tesla newer than september 2019 you probably don't have this ambient lighting option on the interior so it may not actually be all that cool for you one way to tell is if you have the ambient lighting button in your settings they're super easy to install it took me about 10 minutes to install and they really changed the way my car looked at night and i just love them it really looks cool when you walk up to the car at night and it just all goes blue inside you can pick these up on amazon for 28 dollars and also make sure and check out my install and review video on those as well so now before we get into the car let me tell you about a new app i've been using for a little over a month i think you will really want to take advantage of the app is called optiwatt this company's objective is to help the power grid and save you money at the same time this app tracks the amount of money you spend charging on your car each day or really every time you plug it in the impact you are having on the environment while driving an electric vehicle and it tracks the gallons of gas that you're actually saving while driving an electric vehicle but the main attraction of this app is that they connect to your power company to find the optimal charging times then schedule your car to charge at those lower charging rates you can select the convenience option where you set when you want your car to charge or the cheapest time when you save the maximum money this is different from schedule departure for the following reasons you can set what day of the week you want this to run and you can schedule for trips by setting the car to change and charge at specific times at different percentages at specific dates so if i'm going on a trip next week i can say hey for these period of days only charge the car at these times to this amount of percentage which is a really great feature and this is where it gets really good if you sign up below with my link they will actually send you five dollars for signing up and there is no ongoing fees it's a totally free app except you make five dollars come on it's no brainer all you have to do is sign up send in your info about your power company so they can connect it and then connect your car to the app everyone should get involved with these guides you are helping the power group by charging on off hours and making a few bucks in the process now let's move on to accessories for the inside of the car first let's talk about the accessories that protect the car then we can get into the more fun ones to begin let's talk about floor mats [Music] i have tried every kind imaginable i have had nine sets sent to me for review and here is what i have found if you live in a climate like we do here in washington you get all types of weather like i mentioned earlier and you need a map that can handle all that comes with that there are two characteristics that are really a must have when trying to pick one of these mats out first is the pattern of the mats it needs to provide good traction especially if you are short let me explain that my wife is five foot four and her pressure on the mat is more of a forward pressure so if there isn't a good pattern her foot is constantly sliding forward and just stressful on her leg and just annoys her like crazy now i'm six foot one with more downward pressure so it's not as much of a deal but it's still kind of annoying this pattern here is my favorite it works really really well you see it runs horizontal not just vertical lines second is the high walls on the sides of the mats when we get in the car with snow cake to our shoes or mud i want it all contained in that mat you can wash these when you wash your car and it is much easier than trying to wash all that out of your carpet the ones i have here are from bogue rv and are a very good price of only a hundred and ten dollars you can spend a ton of money on these i have two sets here in my garage that are over 250 dollars a piece and they have some very nice qualities and nice materials but you just simply don't need to spend all that kind of money if you're just gonna get them all dirty it kind of comes down to you want the rugged look or the kind of more fancy look and i personally of all the ones i've tried go with the less expensive kind of rugged look they just feel like they do the job great next is the console wrap [Music] from the factory this area here on your center console really scratches easy whatever the material is here it's just little thumbnails anything can really scratch you so this is one of those accessories that almost everyone gets right off the bat they are easy to install and have a lot of tutorials out there on how to do it you can get all sorts of looks i went with the matte finish because i'm not really into the carbon fiber which is what a lot of people get you want to get a quality product here though okay because there's a lot that aren't so good i recommend ev wraps because they are 30 and they will send you a replacement piece if you totally mess one up and that's including free shipping so you're doing the cup holder part which is actually kind of tricky and you totally screw it up drop it on the floor whatever get wrinkled in it you can't get out they'll send you a whole new replacement police plus shipping without charging anything for it now let's talk screen protectors [Music] i have tried glossy finish and matte finish and i prefer the matte finish mostly because it really helps to lower the sun glare and fingerprints on my screen to be clear you will still see fingerprints you just don't see them quite as much i guess if i really could pick which one i like the best it would be the glossy finish it just shines a marathon it's more bright and kind of crystal but in terms of functionality the map seems to be better in my opinion the one i have is made by elon accessories and is a premium option in my opinion it is very easy to install and getting bubbles was much less than others that i have installed that are a much cheaper price point you can pick this up on amazon for 70 bucks so next we're going to talk about two tesla key options first is the tesla key that comes with your car the accessory i recommend to protect this key is actually the key holder that's the actual accessor we're going to be talking about right now you put the key in then the key chain locks it in place so it can't come back out so why buy this if you ever give your car to a friend or a valet at a hotel or whatever it just makes it easier for them to keep track of it and protects it from damage now this next one is one of my favorite accessories and it is my handshow smart ring [Music] i don't usually care around a wallet so having my car with me really isn't practical i only take that last accessory we just talked about with me if i'm going somewhere specific or i'm going to be leaving my car with a valet so why is this so important to have something like this well if i'm out and my phone has a bluetooth issue as we all know they do or your battery dies well you can't get into your car and you especially can't drive home since this ring is like the card meaning that it just contains a chip and not a battery or requiring a bluetooth connection it always works totally reliable all you have to do is press your finger like this against the side of your column on the right behind the driver's door where you swipe your key and it unlocks and then you can go in your car and you can drive right now on their site you can go and pick one of these up for 110 plus tax with my discount cf tesla i will say make sure and take time to get your finger measured i went to an actual jeweler to get it measured because the first time i had one sent to me um i had told them the wrong size and it just it didn't fit it's waterproof and it looks really cool take a minute to watch the full review video on that one if you want more information now if you're a family with kids keep watching this next section is for you specifically we're going to dive deep here so if you don't have kids i recommend skipping over this section it might be a little boring for you we already talked about floor mats with high walls and how important those are for protecting your carpet okay so that's the first thing make sure you got good ones in the back there protect from those little kids but those little kids feet wander more than just a florida don't they they wander all up the back of the pasture and driver's seat so for this we have something called seat kick covers [Music] and these are easily cleaned and easily installed and they look just great now and then you will need to reattach the clips on the top and the hooks on the bottom as the kids rub against them but it's very easy to reattach you know the kids bump them and they fall off but they they're pretty pretty tough to fall off i mean it takes a bit the ones i have are made by bassinore but are no longer available on amazon you can find a similar yet more expensive option from the ev shop who i've worked with a lot or this less expensive option on amazon but they're different style i don't really have anything to say about those because i've never actually used them but the other ones you'll find on the ev shop work really well but they are about 30 dollars more than i paid for them so the ones that i have happen to come back on sale again i'll let you guys know in a future video next if you're using car seats like i do with my three kids you'll want to protect your seats themselves i found the best way to do that is with a product called viewpets bench car seats or seat covers these are made for pets but work very well for car seats i have three car seats on top of mine and they have done a great job keeping crumbs and toys and well all the creases and everything off of the seats they have a spot for seat belts to come through and on top the straps hook around the headrest there was some original concern about the straps rubbing on the headrest but in 13 months there was absolutely no visible damage or any signs of wear so there's not a lot of strain that comes on there the car seats really kind of hold it in place and doesn't really pull on it much even if there was somewhere it'd be way less than the damage the car seats actually put on my seat so either way it's a great option so now let's actually talk about the car seats that i use [Music] many of you won't have three kids in the back your model three or y but since i do i always get questions about which car seats to actually use so here they are i have two boosters and a car seat so i have two kids that are so one is six and one is eight and one is five okay the booster seats are made by graco and are very light and easy to get in and out these are about 90 dollars a piece and in the model 3 they just barely fit with that other car seat in there but they do still fit the model y having two more inches in the back and then the model 3 would make that difference quite actually nice and noticeable the car seat now is made by dino d-i-o-n-o this sells for 265 dollars plus tax and is expensive because it is so narrow and designed to meet safety codes and this is again for smaller kids this is an actual car seat this one is heavy and ties in both with clips on the bottom and clips on the very top and is very sturdy in place with where the tesla has three clips all in the top behind the back seat there you can buy both of these products down on amazon again links will be down below if you want to check those out now if you have three car seats this presents another problem you'll never get your hand down there to hook the seat belt so you'll need to buy seat belt extenders most of these are not made or approved for car sheets so i found a company that makes them specifically for the model 3 and a rock solid obviously when it comes to this type of thing do your own research but these are apparently approved for this and are better than really anything i found out there on amazon in fact everything i bought of amazon i sent back these are made by seatbeltextenderpros.com and on their site you have to go in and specifically select the car the location of the seatbelts in the car and then where they are the middle seat or the side seat and these seat belts are specific for this car and they are like i said they're rock solid they make the job of buckling in the kids go from impossible to doable still not easy but doable and they sell these for 30 bucks a piece okay next we're going to get into a group of accessories that makes your car more efficient more personal really more fun first we have the wireless phone charger by jetta [Music] have had their charger in my car for over seven months and it just simply works it doesn't have all the bells and whistles like you see in other products like charging lights that come on when your phone's on it and sd card readers but it is solidly made in charges every time you put your phone on it it will charge your phone through some of the thinner cases now charge it horizontally it is priced in the mid-range for where you see these coming in at these days and is built with quality and materials that could easily sell at a much higher price from what i've seen what i've reviewed on this note if you go with the jetta option you'll want to pick up their hub [Music] it brings a lot to the table here first you get three usb a ports and two usb c ports after plugging in the two charging cords from the charging pad you still have three ports open you can also buy small usbc to usb a adapters if you need more which i'll plug down below and put the link if you need to pick some of those up other charging pads don't work with their hub so keep that in mind if your charging pad isn't the jetta one you also have a secret compartment below where you can plug in your centerview flash drive the magnetic cover there offers really easy convenience and it's a really well made design i will also mention here that jetta has released a new product that is very cool but comes at a premium price it's called the jetta ssd i have review coming out on this soon but what it does is swap out the magnetic door of the hub for a sentry storage device this device is a 256 gig solid-state drive huge this thing can handle anything you throw at it it has the storage to handle basically unlimited video footage and with the solid state it can handle cycling of videos in and out at a rapid pace without getting too hot or risk losing any of your data now if you are familiar with my drive challenge videos you know i often have my phone in a phone holder and not actually on the wireless charging pads now there are a few reasons for this one is because i do have a modification we'll talk about later that drops my screen down so it does cover part of my phone but also because my phone is often needing to be up higher where i can see my notifications without looking down too far to do with work and stuff like that as well as using it for the waze app so let's go over two of my favorite options [Music] first i have a favorite vertical phone holder and that is the t-e-m-a-i holder i'm still not brilliant enough to try actually pronouncing that name it is super slick and super low profile the best looking one i've ever seen and it goes on the left side of the car and molds right into the vent area and includes a hole for the air to come through and it's very easy and quick to get your phone in and out easily can be done with one hand without putting much thought or focus on what you're doing with the phone holder they also have some of the best high quality apple and android charging cords i have ever seen they don't tangle and are very durable they also have a very nice light on them which just makes them feel really high quality and gives a nice finishing touch make sure and check below for the discounts and links for these products this second option you will have just seen on a full review video recently that i put out by jawa [Music] these come as more of a set you get one that rotates 480 degrees and this is perfect for staying out of the way when you don't need it but then becomes a perfect horizontal holder when it is in the vertical position it is right there close to the gear stock and whenever i try to get it in and out i keep bumping the screen and the gear stock so for me i prefer the temi the tma option for this you know for the vertical but this one is very cool very sturdy and very high quality made now you can buy a second one for the passenger side called the invisible holder i love this option because i'm always asked by different viewers if i know of a passenger holder and this checks that box big time the great thing is you don't have to stare at it all the time when it's not being used when you need it it just flips right up and adjusts to where you want it then folds back away when you don't need it again you can check out the full review for both of these on my channel and i'll also link it down below if you're looking to try to find two phone holders one that works for you one that works for your passenger these are a really great option to buy together you don't have to buy them together they're actually two very separate products but they do work very well together and a lot of people do like this kind of positioning they sell for 39 a piece but you can get five dollars off each one with my discount code found down below in the description next is a tray for the front compartment [Music] front compartment is basically worthless for small items like sunglasses pens coins etc if you ever want to ever find them again after you put them in there this is easily solved with this insert tray the model i have works with the 2017 to 2020 models and sells for 19. i will also link the tray down below for the 2021 model and i'll put that again right down below as well next i purchased these great liners the set comes with liners for front and back cup holders front and arm rest tray i really just bought these for their cup holders since they often collect condensation and spills and with these you can just take them out and wash them it's much easier to wash them than watch the cup holders themselves they've been a great addition over the last year and sell for only 15 on amazon [Music] our next product is this front cooler and the one i have is made by evanex but you can also find it on amazon by other sellers i will post a few links down below these are great if you go on picnics sporting events at a field camping or tailgating they are not waterproof so don't fill them with ice but it will keep your food cool for a lot longer think of these as a big insulated lunchbox that you would take to work you can fill it from your kitchen then when you get your destination you just stole the strap on your shoulder and away you go they sell for around 50 and to be honest this is one of those items that i would love to see i use because i think they're really great idea but i've never actually used it before even though i've been told by viewers that they do use it often so i do know people do use these i just personally haven't one frunk item i do use and i've used a ton is this frunk organizer [Music] they're a bit expensive coming in at 90. but this product did make the front more usable it basically gives you handles and dividers for the front so you can put things like milk and other heavy items in there when you get home just grab the whole thing if you are superman and carry it into the house i'm often told that people put their food they pick up from like a restaurant or something in there to keep it you know in case it spills from getting inside the car then of course you can just easily clean that out rather than having to clean out your front with all the you know gaps and stuff i've never actually done that but a lot of people have told me to use it for that the one downside is if you use the front to keep things like your laptop and camera case when you're out and about the large dividers make it hard to fit them all in but otherwise it's really always in my car and the reason why i say it makes it harder is because if it doesn't fit inside one of the little compartments that the dividers make then it has to go on top of them that just you know really shrinks the gap because the dividers are about that tall so it just pushes everything up a little bit too high so if you have a thick laptop like me you kind of really can't fit that in there you know if you want to keep in your front [Music] now i've got to throw in here my neck headrest by eevee premium customs i love these things for long road trips or pretty much any trips other than maybe just at the grocery store i've always got this thing on it's comfortable it's high high quality and it fits very well into my neck the only downside i would say is that if you're a really short person like my wife it's really hard for her because her head kind of is directly on it where this is supposed to be on your neck but it's a very supportive awesome accessory makes a really comfortable drive you can pick these up from ev premium customs website but don't forget to apply my discount for a big savings next let's talk sun shades i happen to get these sent to me in the middle of summer last year and the day i installed them it was over 95 degrees i had heard previously just mixed reviews on whether these made a difference so i was pretty skeptical at first they installed very easily and when not being used they collapse easily and they fit into the little bag they just kind of fold into this little thin thing and you just stick them in your trunk i knew that i would never use them because of all my camera mounts in my car but for the review i installed it now my super scientific test was very obvious that it made a difference when i held my hand up there you know when it wasn't installed it was a lot hotter than after i installed it and put my hand up there i mean obviously it makes a huge difference as a whole another layer the sun rays have to get through i drove around with them for about a week and you could definitely tell the sun wasn't beating on my head so intensely as it was without it you do lose the view out your roof which my kids were not too fond of or you could be like my wife and not even notice they were there until i told her later that i was taking them out she was just like what what's up there i personally don't look up my roof too much when i'm driving either you can pick these up for 50 bucks on amazon and review my video down below to see kind of what my thoughts and feelings were while i was reviewing it last in this category is more of a modification and you have seen me use it in most of my driving videos [Music] is the pivot mount by tech forum this accessory allows you to change the direction the screen is facing making it more of a personal feel you don't really know you love this or want this until you actually install it i love having my screen facing toward me it feels like it was actually made for me the driver instead of everyone else in the car it also pivots over to the passenger side in case your passenger needs to jump on the web or do something maybe type in an address easier or if you're having to be weird and drive on the right side of your car then you know it works for you too for more info on this and to watch the install and review video just click down in the description it'll all be there i will just mention two maintenance products i've reviewed and currently still have on my car that have worked very well they are from a company called x technor and are the hepa air filters and the wiper blades you should swap out your air filters every 12 000 to 15 000 miles and the hepa is the best option for filtering out smells and other things and providing the best type of air quality in your car they take about 30 minutes to replace and just give yourself some time and patience because they are not in the easy spot to place in the car to make that swap just make sure to watch the install video before trying this yourself and learn what not to do and what to do next also by extechnor is the wiper blades i won't go into much on these because we all know about wiper blades and what they do a couple things about them is they're very quiet and very durable you can pick these up on amazon for 30 bucks i do have an install video on these as well because there is one little trick to getting your windshield wipers installed on the tesla last i will just mention one must-have item outside of the car [Music] that is a charging cable organizer for 20 bucks this is a must-have item to protect your charging cord it's easy to install it just requires a couple tools and your cord is off the ground and ready to go there's a spot to plug in the charger and it just sort of works it's made of plastic it's nothing fancy but it doesn't need to be now i've reviewed many many more accessories but this is plenty for now and will really get you started so why do i do these accessory videos why do i often talk about accessories in the middle of my drives and other videos where i often plug different accessories well to be honest with you it's because it's what helps keeps the channel going every time one of you guys buys something for one of my links i get a small little commission it's not much
