[Music] Kosovo's and around the world it's time to raise the Lord [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] praise the Lord some ancient Christian events in America and across the world from the heart of Europe to the tip of Africa [Music] Central Asia Central and South America Oh you're a part 20 is from Southern California our senior pastor of the Crystal Cathedral of Garden Grove California dr. Robert jeweler Wilma television filming Broadway Efrem Zimbalist jr. most rare markers around America [Music] that [Music] [Applause] [Music] now your host president and protesting at work [Music] so welcome hello everybody host the place or the border the border one more time let's just praise the Lord well I have much to praise the Lord for tonight Jen finally made it in from the Santa Ana freeway parking lot I'm sure the traffic is horrendous as you come in tonight our good friend dr. Robert Schuler is also probably caught out on the traffic somewhere but they let us know that he is on the way and will be here and then oh my Efrem Zimbalist jr. our precious brother that has read the word for us for my goodness ten years or more we'll be here tonight after a long absence it's been a long long time since Aaron ephram's has been able to be with us and we can maybe coax the Christmas story out of him tonight but you made it we just flew in actually from Nashville I mean we did not land until almost 6 o'clock and then had to get through the Christmas traffic to get home and then get back down here so it's a miracle that we're here at 7 o'clock I started earlier than you in Florida picked Jan up in Nashville and came on home I was down there looking over Hurricane Andrew damage and you know what our beautiful little trailer park there's a few missing shrubs here and there but it looks beautiful and Mike Everitt and the gang have done a marvelous job in getting it restored and of course we still grieve for the dear ones down in Homestead in South Dade County that really took the brunt of it and dear ones hope and more help is on the way I have some additional funds that have come in from dear ones that are going to reach out and help even more as we get roofs and shingles and hailed back on and and you know we immediately sent I think nearly a hundred thousand dollars now for immediate food and water and just emergency supplies but now we want to help those dear ones rebuild their lives of their homes and if thing will step up into the light here just since Paul jr. relit this set you now have to be a little more sense see the little X's on the floor you have to kind of stand in the boxes and where the little T's are and everything a little behind-the-scenes here today but I well yes maybe I should take just one minute to give you a a seminar that I attended with leaders of the broadcast and the cable industry and friends let me just tell you some of this is a little sensitive because there is some adjudication going on in the court right now concerning the must-carry situation you friends many of you know exactly what I'm talking about especially some of you that have been dropped off of your cable system and only through long hard laborious negotiations labor and payment of monies have we been able to be restored on certain cable systems but Congress as you know last year Pat are just a few months ago passed a new law saying that cable systems will now be required by law to carry all of the broadcast systems broadcast stations within their what we call their market or their adi area of dominant influence which means that in southern california every cable system in all of southern california we'll have to carry channel 40 it will be a law they will have to do it now it's being challenged in the courts but it was a very healthy exchange in leaders of the cable industry and the broadcast industry and some of we independent broadcasters got up and got to say our peace and speak our minds freely and let me just say this in conclusion pray pray that this will now withstand the court tests that certain elements of the cable industry have brought against it they are claiming constitutional right to not have to carry we broadcast stations or at least we little broadcast stations we believe we have a constitutional right to free speech to see that our voice is not cut off from homes that we used to be able to reach before the cable industry came in and took the antennas down and effectively cut our voice off from millions of homes did you know when we added it all up now partners hear me and this is why it's important to pray pray pray pray I've been praying every morning every night God give us this big we're so close to victory now we will add overnight 15 million houses households representing 1534 about 50 million more souls will be able to see the signal of TBN and we will we will double our cable households overnight if the courts will simply sustain our right to one channel in the market so pray pray pray pray pray then I went down to Florida as I said we looked over the well I dropped Bob higly off into your boy I've been around the world it feels like and oh that's something else Bob Higley and one of our other cable reps I dropped them off in New York they're going down to Long Island and they're negotiating for are you ready one of the largest cable systems in the nation it has almost 400,000 homes we will have folks a New York station when if when we get this one on the air so pray for Bob Higley and our cable department as they work vigorously to hook up new cable systems even before and until the new cable law is sustained in a court of law then down to see how hurricane and then I hosted praise the Lord did not last boy you didn't get to see Hector Jimenez and his beautiful wife and of course dr. James Kennedy always a joy to have him as our special guest and Verne's Christmas songs but you know what while Verne is right here let's get him up here and will you will you give us a little quick report on what happened in Nashville Tennessee you and Verne and his good wife Sonny were there and what happy well we've put together another beautiful album that I think is going to be hell over in Jackson oh we just had a wonderful time in Nashville I think we've got some of the best stuff coming out of that town I we had some of the finest musicians and definitely the finest engineering crew down there and we have got some music that is just phenomenal we've got hello mama that'll be the title to title song in the album mom and don't forget to pray for me Mama's Bible Mama's prayers mama liked the roses it's the whole album is for moms and it's going to be a ministering album and I'm just really excited about it and I just can't wait to get these tracks back and start singing these songs and in due time of course we'll make it of it please don't ask right now as we often say but give me your perceptions of this a little bit step up into the light now remember it was really it was really a beautiful album it's going to be very very special and I think right around Mother's Day it'll just be very special but we were back there doing a whole lot of business you know channel 50s back there and oh we met so many partners that are watching him and being blessed now with channel 50 sunlight and had a very special time of putting the Pat Boone show back together where it's pets very excited about it now we lined up new programs for that so when we're back there that's Pat's home you know and so he loves to go back there to tape so we've just been doing a lot of things back there while we were there for a few days and was this very exciting time well let's have a few little Christmas carols here in just a moment you got a little Christmas scripture for us or maybe just a word from the word you know I wanted to share something that happened to me when I was in Nashville who is it old man and old ladies that have dreams and young men have visions the Joel's prophecy your old men shall dream dreams your young men shall see visions I think and it's it in your hand maidens shall prophesy you know I had a dream when I was there that was very very profound to me and I shared it with a lot of people and I'm just going to share it tonight because it's just it I have you know I have heard all of the arguments on whether the rapture is pre mid-post whether it's kingdom now I mean we have them all on and everyone out there is going to have to do exactly what you and I do you hear everyone else's opinion but you go to the word for yourself and you learn what the word says well I had been thinking a lot with all of the earthquakes and all of the things that we have been hearing so much about lately I've just been wondering in my spirit you know could this be the last days we hear it so much and yet I've heard it for 55 years and so I you know you think is it the last days do we have another five years we have another ten years we have another hundred years maybe we have another thousand years I don't know you know and so one night I had this dream and I just wanted to share it it was like I was taken into this area where there was a whole group of people gathered around and I could tell they were scholarly a lot of Jewish looking people like Joseph Goods you know and a lot of people that you could tell had studied and studied and studied kind of like Jay Sekulow types and it was like they knew something and had uncovered something and knew something you just wandered in on this wandered in no they were they were inviting me in and wanted me to he all of their scholarly advice and now had you been meditating on this or thinking about any of this as you went to bed or went to sleep at night said I have been you know just reading the word and all of the earthquakes and things that have been happening you know I mean it is so unusual you don't go a day without hearing of some natural disaster and never in the history of the world has an army gone in to fight what not an enemy anything but famine and that's one of the pestilences of the last days and Utah and I miss this one because I've been traveling but apparently a whole island in Indonesia with 12,000 people on it just sunk in and disappeared with an earthquake passing CNEA her and you're just hearing these things every day with tidal waves and people starving I mean when you see in Somalia a whole generation of children that have literally died from surf so I mean everybody's got to be thinking about it you know and then the year where you hear so many in two days and then on the third day I'll pick you up Hosea and there's just so many scriptures so I guess I haven't thinking about it lately anyway there was this group of scholarly people and they drew me in and said Jan there's something that we know and you should know it we want you to know it so I was in there for a long long time and they were teaching me they were showing me all these scrolls they didn't covered they were showing me things that they had drawn out on the walls and they were showing me the the the bowls of Wrath and and the angels yeah all biblical stuff that they had studied it was definitely that and then they walked over to a wall and all of them were watching me as they went over and said Jen this is what you have gotten to tell and every time I say this I start getting goose book the last sword has been drawn and they told me this and they showed me where it had come off of the wall the last sword has been drawn and the time is now and that's what they were saying and they began singing I could hear them with joy yet with militants began singing this song the prophets were told it we've warned you for years the time is now coming there's no time for tears and they begin oh it was just oh it was unreal and it was militant and they were saying you've got to learn it you've got to teach it and they showed me the sword had gone from the wall and as I was learning this song and and the militants and the the vigor in their eyes it was like we know it we've got to have a voice to tell it when I woke up startled the next than the morning and just grabbed my Bible and honey I turned to you know how this happens to us all the time my Bible felt and in Revelation 19 this is what my eyes fell on then I saw heaven open I went whoa and a white horse standing there and the one sitting on the horse was named faithful and true the one who just ly punishes and makes war and his eyes were like flames and on his head were many crowns and a name was written on his forehead and only he knew its meaning and he was was closed with garments dipped in blood and his title was the Word of God and the armies of heaven dressed in finest linen white and clean followed him on white horses but listen to this and in his mouth he held a sharp sword to strike down the nation's he ruled them with an iron grip and he tried the winepress of the fierceness of the wrath of Almighty God and on his robe and thigh was written this title king of kings and Lord of lords you know I don't know all I know but I know that that dream had a profound change in me it was like we have heard that Jesus is coming again for so many years - sometimes we become numb to it and we don't hear and realize that Jesus Christ of Nazareth that was born is coming again and I don't know what all that dream meant I know the song is still in my mind and still in my heart and I know it was a militants and yet I wasn't afraid it was a joy but it was like do the people really realize at the time is closed you know I just might say to some of you out there some of you were maybe like me I was raised hearing about the rapture and raised hearing Jesus is coming songs that have been sung about it all the years and sometime we just become totally just you don't you just don't think about it you just go from day to day today thinking well it's tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow one of these days Jesus is going to split those eastern skies and he's coming back and he said he's coming for a church without spot or wrinkle and he's coming for us that are ready and looking for him and what is the foolish virgins story that they let their oil go out and the oil is what the symbol of the precious Holy Spirit and they missed the call of the bridegroom and it's a warning to us I know well I have felt that tug in my spirit for many many months years but just I would say in the last couple of years I felt such a strong urgency and especially as we've seen such awesome changes in our world changes in some cases for the good as we've seen Russia of all places open and the Berlin Wall come down and now the bamboo curtain is going and we're gonna build in China and we've seen doors open and the spread of the gospel go in an awesome way around the world and yet we've seen now some awesome portents of fearful things to come the famines the pestilence the AIDS new viruses even worse than AIDS now that they're not even able to isolate talk about pestilence and now then earthquakes and tidal waves and unprecedented weather changes I heard on the news driving in tonight they've had terrible tornadoes up in Sacramento California and out oh it's near San Francisco they've had another terrible destruction with we don't have tornadoes in California but we've had them today we had them today something's different and anyone with eyes and ears and an ounce of intelligence has to see that something's changed in our world and something is different these are what I believe Jesus identified as the beginnings of Sorrows and yet for we who know Christ he said when you see these things begin to come to pass rejoice lift up your heads and rejoice for your redemption draws nigh and I think that sharp sword what is a sharp sword that can't be literal but that's words dear friends that sharp sword is in your mouth it's in my mouth it's a sword of words that will liberate and set the prisoners free as we speak the unsearchable riches of Christ oh let's do it together tonight in Jesus name let's pray let's just ask the Holy Spirit to come and take charge of this great night tonight as we have a wonderful time in his presence father we just commit every moment of this program now to you we ask you precious Holy Spirit to come and unction eyes and energize every word every song every scripture everything that we do or say Lord to the end that some lost soul will hear this good news and be saved we claim conviction of sin that it will fall mightily upon lost men and women boys and girls everywhere tonight we claim this in Jesus name give us souls above all else we pray O Lord in Jesus name then Lord be pleased to do signs and wonders and miracles the name of Christ may be exalted high and that men may see him and be drawn to him three said if I even I be lifted up from the earth will draw all men unto me we seek to do that tonight o Holy Spirit help us do it we pray in Jesus name let burdens be lifted let bodies be healed let joy flow like a mighty stream of blessing across this land and even around this world tonight we pray in Jesus mighty name and everybody said amen well Verne Jackson's gonna help us get in the Christmas spirit a little bit faster here tonight with one of our grand old favorites it came upon a [Applause] [Music] I we're on the crew [Applause] [Music] I want today where Jesus slow [Music] I love that song and I love where it was fun Dan and the gang went over to Israel earlier this year and taped some of these beautiful things that we were just enjoying so very much now especially during this holiday and Christmas season before we go any further we're going to have many many calls tonight about our son Matthew and I do just want to give you a report that he did go in for the eye surgery the first surgery was not successful they went in for a repair surgery and we're just kind of on hold on that surgery and he is going in in the morning again and if the scenario stays the same that his eye is not improving then they will go in and redo the surgery again on his eye so we're just asking all of the partners to please continue to pray for Matt and Lori and especially Matt he's in an awful lot of pain many of you had detached retinas and no know the problem but just give a little report I just talked to him an hour or so ago as we were flying in and he his spirits are up peace he's taking it in stride but let's do lift him in prayer tonight and then honey you just told me that our brother Oral Roberts is also hot back in the hospital just with chest pain yeah but he was back in the hospital in Tulsa so let's remember our brother Oral Roberts tonight as well let me introduce somebody who needs no introduction certainly on the Trinity Broadcasting Network but indeed we'll talk about that in just a little bit but dr. Schueller since you have been on we have signed on about 55 more television stations so there just might pretend to be somebody who is not all that familiar well I don't know how that would really be possible but we are live tonight in El Salvador in Costa Rica in Nicaragua and in Baileys and in Honduras so do you speak Spanish no but we I have a minister who I cut myself out of our program put in a spanish-speaking preacher what Carlos Ortiz we know can you give me your program in Spanish no that'll just be Spanish but I mean I could speak Spanish why would I hire one Carlos Ortiz is a better preacher that I had it oh I thought maybe they translated you no no no no he could write better sermons that I get I see I see okay well may we have his program there yes it's called hour of power it's a literal translation of our program and it's from the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove I am in the program I interview guests but he does all the preaching I see when you show him you show that Spanish program calls or odd the pourer or something and through most of these countries that you just mentioned tonight are you telling me we already have the program yes you do oh hi Kate I just work here that's right okay dr. Schuler is the senior pastor minister at Crystal Cathedral known around the world and of course the great hour of power television ministry dr. Schuler had founded an Institute for successful church leadership I presume that still an annual affair is it not the Institute draws pastors laypeople professors for seminars on church leadership and growth dr. shooter is also a prolific author writer in fact where you find the time to write all these books I'm trying to grind one out now and I'm not doing too well at it how many book doesn't see me I'll help you will you that's it I will be there I will be there how many books dr. shooter 30 30 books but this is my newest one well that that's a good one let's believe in the God who believes in you and life's not fair but God is it's not fair but God is good many common good comments on that but this one doesn't quite seem to fit your profile it's simply entitled Goliath I can really oh you didn't right this is the first approved biography on my life if they want to know what the real Robert Schuller is my wife my family the ministry etc this tells all I want to do delve into this book tonight but first of all just a quick little update you look like your old self I am completely recovered from the accident a few months ago yes this book opens the first line I'm being wheeled into the hospital here in Orange County just having come back from a plane trip from Amsterdam accompanied by two doctors and the author of this book Jim Penner saw me with all the hair off of my head and the scars having had two brain surgeries only a week before and he saw a fear in my eye that he hadn't seen before dr. Schuler you were here shortly after that accident and we we discussed that that tragic accident over in Amsterdam I think isn't it you told me at that time that that that experience had had basically confronted you with your own mortality in a very very strength way any any changes in your life and ministry since that I don't think I've ever been authenticated EAA or dead on arrival at the hospital and that's what the neurosurgeon tells you and he told me that my goodness I mean that's never happened to me before and totally humility because my life was spared and I can't take any credit for it I mean I didn't even pray for myself I didn't know I was in a bad situation I read something in a newspaper article to that quoted you as saying it had had a profound effect and had made some differences even in your ministry well I think it has I think that that would you characterize it well I think all my life I've been very subtle and very very cautious about making an open bold blunt witness to my authentic morning and status as a Christian because I didn't want to turn the people off that have been turned off by this I wanted to try to win their trust build a friendship and then in the right way and in the right manner share the love of Jesus Christ habit number one fear I've had it all my life is well I Drive many people away from the Lord and I wish more evangelists and preachers and pastors would have that concern you know at any rate but knowing that I'd almost died and knowing I didn't know what I would have left to live I thought I've been faithful to my calling I'm just going to lay it on the line hey folks this is what I am like it Kristen I like that I like that I congratulate you I think the time was right for me to do it yes sir yes I don't think it was right before so I think I was God's guidance all along the way and yet I'm sure that strategy was definitely used of the Lord when many people who might not otherwise as right I know that to be the fact if you had your life to live all over again would there be any major changes I'd Bible Southern California life we started we started our church in 37 37 years ago I mean and we now we were located on thirty acres the first a huge cost a 6,000 acre the last acreage cost us a million five hundred thousand and eight you know well now of course I was thinking in more of spiritual terms than in real estate terms no you know III I don't have any concept of doing anything differently I really would do everything exactly the same way that I've done it and I think this is not because I'm boastful I'm not not at all but I really feel I have received what I asked for and that's the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the major decisions of my life you know that so that is a wonderful testimony yeah I mean absolutely Jen and I can say the same I don't think I'd change a thing I know I'm in the will of God and what I'm doing now and I know you know the same thing and that that's it it's a wonderful thing to to under sitting here still thinking of the answer I gave to your question two minutes ago and I honestly can't think of anything I would do differently other than buy more land and super price I think you would probably have ducked getting into that car a little further too would wouldn't you and yet God uses all of those things oh absolutely yeah I'll tell you I've gotten more mileage out of my on my accident I occasionally forget people's names so do you everybody does I worked you know when you when you've lost the privacy of your face and that happens to people if their pictures appear in print or if they're they appear on television you'll lose the privacy of your face somebody comes up to you they recognize you because you're a public face sure they're private they say to you do you remember me that's very unfair it's very unfair Wow I've got a wonderful answer oh you know I'm sorry I had brain surgery excuse me I have to just be honest and say no dear I'm sorry I have it memory and I really do well let's talk about Goliath as I said that is kind of an incongruous title for anything that I would connect with dr. Robert Schuller but well who is going is Goliath that was my first question I asked a moment ago no Goliath is any power any force any person that seeks to distract you from carrying out God's assignment for your life so there are many good oh yes it may be your own fears of failure in your mind on page three I didn't like the title of a book I did not approve the title of the book Haley no but I gave the author Liberty and when and I didn't want to read the book until it was finished in hardcover and I read the book and I got to page three it reads like a novel it is written like fiction so it doesn't read like a dry boring biography beautifully written just reads like a but it reads like a fiction now could you get readers a little paragraph as an examining page he rose from his bed into the light his frail body struggled to break the confines of the hospital bed his eyes searched for the window in the corner trying desperately to catch a glimpse of his home it was there only a mile down the road I'm in a hospital and they're talking about me and I've just arrived from Amsterdam to Los Angeles where the chief neurosurgeon of UCI hospital waits in an ambulance to take me to the UCI hospital and the page three I look in the mirror and when I looked at myself in the mirror a look came across my face and the novelist the author says he Robert Schuller faced Goliath again Goliath is somebody that tries to come between you and your fulfillment of God's exciting call your life well when I reach that page I cried and really did the tears rolled out of my eyes I don't know where all the water came from but it's a it's it's a story of my life and I hope it'll inspire people I'm very very proud of the fact that it's in the front today of the stories of America like Waldenbooks and Dalton books and all the chain stores are and thrilled the way they're selling the book because everybody faces look alive it may be the doctor's report you of cancer or your husband has left you through death or divorce or something goes wrong in your life and and you want to turn your back on faith and show the whole thing overboard listen the devil puts a lot of Goliath's in front of all of us could we talk about some of these Goliath and I could talk about when my wife had cancer that was a that was a Goliath there are pictures here when was this oh this was about 12 years ago my daughter lost her leg yeah and of course I had two of those brain surgeries at eight days and I I was called by God to build this Crystal Cathedral I knew that but that was very tempting not to go through with it so what the worst Goliath you've ever faced the worst Goliath I've ever faced ah oh it's totally the book but I don't want to discuss it really oh really I don't can't you give us at least a clue no I don't read or not because the I'd rather read it my pages you know I'm not going to tell I gave you the book it's free [Laughter] there must have been a bad one has there ever been a time when you wanted to give up no no not give up but there was a time when I think I would have if God had said Bob would you like to died go to heaven sweet why would you like to keep on living I would have thought God take me I think that'd be great yeah the will to die the will deliver on every person and under extreme stress the will to die can take over and that's that's heavy and that's about the time I face my worst Goliath really yeah now I think the worst Goliath any person can face that was true for me is if you face someone who honestly tries to destroy your life in your ministry and that's tough you've had that and uh and it and it yes and it's happened in the press where a reporter for instance might write a story leave impressions you do not have equal time you cannot say wait a minute let me give you my side of the story the story is out the papers there that that's a tough Goliath for a public person thing is really tough how do you handle that kind of a Goliath they stay out of the papers yeah but sometimes they print it anyway and say dr. Schuler was unavailable for comment I think you know well I I think that I have not concerned about that anymore I think that through the scandalous periods I you know the most Los Angeles Times the Orange County Register assigned reporters to her wrath exhaust all possibilities and and we were given a clean bill of health and probably sure the Los Angeles Times sent me the full-page reprint and glossy print in the frame he said this is the page that's going to appear this week on new dr. schuler after months of investigative reporting I thought you'd like a framed copy and the headline was Crystal Cathedral unscathed very very nice that's a that's taking Goliath's head off isn't it awful lot of people watching us tonight you know christmas is coming and when I take time to invite everybody listening yeah I'd like to invite them to the glory of Christmas and the Crystal Cathedral you've both seen it yet a family has been there it's outstanding it is it's without compare it's in a class by itself in order to see this you've incredible the cathedral is a hundred feet longer than a football field you could put a 12 story building inside of it the roof is that high and Mary Martin was a friend of mine and she engaged Peter Freud to fly angels in the cathedral and the glory Christmas so we have the best and it's spectacular millions I guess have seen it since it started but this year if people live in Southern California they can see it any night I think 6:30 to 8:30 in some nights so 4:30 and it's going through December 30 just don't miss it call up there are seats and if you live outside of California and couldn't possibly make it may I say this it is the first time in the history of television that pay-per-view has taken it really and it's a Christian program my word people could call their local cable companies in any place in the United States of America and Inquirer and pay-per-view is showing the glory of Christmas from the Crystal Cathedral fantastic that is big news that is a television Christian television first absolutely I think and cable TV and I have had a love affair for several years here and of course the good news is we've met with officials of some of the largest cable systems and they are going to add Trinity Broadcasting Network to every cable system ultimately in America really yes sir really you believe that oh it's our lawyers our throwing the documents even as we speak and we will add perhaps overnight 15 million new households and with n I will prophesy within the next two years Trinity will be available to every television household in the United States nearly 100 million there are basically 100 million television households in America so and besides that and remember dr. schuler your program is simulcast on the big superpower shortwave radio system that now we have heard from over 100 nations of the world so every once in a while even in your messages why don't you address the the radio oddity audience and give have your announcer give verbally the telephone number to Crystal Cathedral and you will be astonished it where calls will come from yes okay thank you and now by the end of this year let me tell you one very interesting little facet maybe someday someone will write a biography on me I don't know I don't I certainly can't a miracle of awesome proportions to me when I stop to think that in the first 10 years of the work that Jan and I did with Trinity we basically got three television stations on the air in the second 10 years well over 300 television stations came on the air 330 three television stations will be on the air by December 31st of this year an hour of power will be on each and every one of them as well as shortwave radio long wave radio FM radio and God is giving his church a voice doctor shooter and we're just so proud that you are one of those great great voices on Trinity Broadcasting and I rejoice that the Lord has released you now to just absolutely overtly without apology press upon men and women the lames of the Lord Jesus Christ I salute you sir for that I really do and join you in that effort would you take a glory would you take a moment right now I don't want to put you on the spot but there's a Gideon Bible right there would you would you give us a little word there will be Arbitron tells us that on a typical night like tonight there could be as much as 20 million Americans at least flipping by within the two to three hour segment and just invite them to know this wonderful person that we know people ask me doctor sure come on you're educated you have your college degree your graduate degree do you really believe in God my answer is absolutely and when they ask for a reason why I simply say all my life I've been a great success because I find people that are smarter than I am and I follow their guidance when it comes to religion the subject is there a god or isn't there a god I go to the smartest person in the world the expert he was a person who live 2,000 years ago his name was Jesus Christ and he said God is there and he is my Heavenly Father thank Jesus said if you take a look at me you will see God and this Jesus Christ I don't think anybody would argue with me in this statement is the most beautiful person who ever lived and when beautiful people that are psychologically healthy and internally secure make bold affirmative claims you can believe them you can trust them and I trust this Jesus Christ and the Bible says if you want an understanding of why this Jesus cry it was too beautiful person read the Bible and the Bible says this was God coming into the human race theologians have a big word huge word forgive me it's called incarnation but that God wanted to communicate to the world that he got his alive and he is loving and that he does care about people who have troubles and problems and and he knows the biggest trouble in the biggest problem every human being has is a thing called sin and so this God came to the world in a human being called Jesus Christ he came to live to teach us to be an example he came to die he was born to die and he died on a cross and they the blood flowed out of his body and he was dead totally they took him down from the cross put him in a tomb three days later something happened and I don't know exactly what happened the Bible says he was resurrected well I believe it I really believe it and I believe it because his apostles were scared and now suddenly they were bold and bright yes amen and then the Bible says that he got his body out of the way he sent it into heaven wherever that is I don't know but he ascended into heaven and he's there and he's listening to us and he's building his kingdom means he's sending his spirit into brains and hearts lives of human beings until they become authentic Christians and then they become a part of his invisible kingdom and body and I invite you tonight where who you are to draw closer to Jesus Christ how well do you know him do you really know how he lived and how he died do you know what he taught can you explain that in a few years the whole world will celebrate the anniversary mm anniversa three of the death of Jesus Christ the calendar is marked by him and by none other get acquainted with this Jesus find a Bible grievant and tune in programs that help you to understand more how Jesus Christ is alive today and you can talk to him and he'll be listening he will hear and answer your prayers I know someone listening to me right now realizes that there is the force of love in this world a man you can look at you people say do you believe in God and you believe in the devil I simply say well look at some of the beautiful people that are alive and you have to believe in God and look at some of the terrible people that are alive and you have to believe in the devil choose Christ this Christmas become a Christian hallelujah let's pray let's just leave them now God every person that's listening has a brain they can think health information and they can agree or disagree with what they're hearing they can open their heart better say I'm going to become a believer or they can close it and say I won't do it Oh God the very fact that every single human being has the capacity to change is proof of the fact that you are at their hearts door trying to change them into the beautiful people they could become now I pray that every person listening to this prayer will welcome Christ into their life and say dear Jesus here is my brain thing through it yes amen here are my eyes look through my eyes here are my ears listen through my ears here is my face smile through my veins thank you here is my tongue talk to people using my tongue yes here oh Jesus Christ are my hands I want them to be your hands Jesus stroking touching comforting blessing here is my heart Christ love people through my art only here are my arms use them to lift the people that are tired here are my feet Jesus walk through my feet that people will follow me and find themselves where God wanted them to go oh Jesus Christ live again in me and the world will be blessed hallelujah amen oh I'll never forget several years ago I quoted that little scripture and I declare it's as though God gave me a little snapshot vision into heaven I saw as it were Jesus Christ who the scripture tells us is literally seated at the right hand of the of the heavenly father literally turning to the father and speaking the name of someone who had just confessed him and spoke in his name that does happen you know literally think about that for a moment if you are receiving Christ right now and you are boldly declaring with your mouth Jesus Christ is my lord the word declares that Jesus literally speaks your name to the heavenly father and says father John Jones just confessed me before men I now confess him before you as my son as my child that kind of puts a new little light on it doesn't it would you like to have Jesus speak your name to the Father in heaven please call right now beautiful prayer partners are there to talk with you love you pray with you agree with you we'll send you a Bible if you need one and we'll ask for it no charge whatsoever we delight to send Bibles and Christian literature up to people who need it but if the line is busy and I see they're very busy right now dr. schuler I think you have just won another whole group of new converts who have received Christ by the testimony of your word we rejoice in that we really do are there any goliaths yet unseen always I don't always know what they are either do you yes I want to say something though I don't know how much time I have left but I do want to say that all evening well I want to share a concern that I have today and the concern is that this site seems to be an age where all boundaries have been shifting yes a political boundaries theological boundaries moral boundaries and I thank God for you Jan and I thank you that you remind us that the real boundaries that we've got to make solid sure and around us are the boundaries of the love of Jesus Christ and I I think the greatest danger facing Christianity today is not keeping a love of Jesus Christ the number one position and priority in our lives amen yes and I think that the Goliath that faced Christians our temptations to attack other people who love Jesus Christ could you give me before we say goodnight an example of one special Goliath that you faced and conquered and slew and just as David did took his head off I don't think I have ever slain a Goliath I think that God has done it well of course of course he drinks through stone but you know what I mean well I I think that I can't I suppose maybe still the most difficult Goliath in my life was when my 13 year old daughter lost her like I think as I looked at my whole life that was absolutely the worst it was a tragic was that an auto accident motorcycle motorcycle accident and she's today is happily married you know and her husband is getting his master's degree in psychology from polar and he's on the staff with John Wimber and vineyard Christian Fellowship and my daughter Carol is very active with him there in that church but that was a tough one oh really - did you was her life actually threatened in that accident her life was never threatened well yes I suppose I can say it was because these she took 17 pints of blood in the hospital and so that means she lost a lot of blood and how much blood you could lose before your your you're dead I don't know that was our worst how do you deal with today how did I deal with that well I was in Korea with a man whose name was Paul Young he choked oh wow his name now is David Young he choked you know good company to be in when you get back yes and I was preaching in his church and staying in the hotel when I got the telephone call and so Paul his darling wife took my wife and me to the airport got us on a plane immediately and prayed for us constantly and on the plane trip from Seoul Korea to Los Angeles I knew I was gonna break down a ball I went to the bathroom and and then when the noise came out of my mouth I could remember that people in Paul's Church singing hallelujah hallelujah so I decided if I'm gonna bawl I'm going to turn it into a positive and I started crying and I said it took the stone and directed it right back and I went oh good yeah good you praise the Lord even the spice that's right oh good advice wonderful advice any Christian listening to me when they break down and they bawl don't just make a loud noise shape your lips to turn the sound until the word Alleluia comes out and keep it up a wonderful advice good words lifting words yes some of you hear that and take hold of it and do it Goliath who doesn't have a Goliath now and again in their lives and this is available you say in all of them look right up in the front I think in almost every be Dalton lead off in Walden bookstores and Sam's and targets and all of the stories it's thrilling that here I am a Christian and the secular bookstores are pushing it hard so buy it have a for destiny the a dignity dignity yeah we can't put the Ten Commandments in the school walls anymore so give them dr. Schuler's Ten Commandments here believe in the God who believes in you maybe they'd let that go in the school library and then life's not fair I like that title I think better than any book you've ever it's been out over a year and last month it was still on the top 10 best-selling I'm not religious books now because it really says a lot it says a life's not fair don't believe God don't say there's a don't be an atheist or an agnostic come on God didn't do it life did it the devil did it the devil did it's ended it selfishness did it yes you know what one other thing I hope we have it on the frame store but what is the number folks can call if they want information on the glory of Christmas what five for glory yeah how did you know yes seven one four five four GL o ry of all lines Phil call the Crystal Cathedral we have Crystal Cathedral but we need 54 floral glory 7 140 really yeah in the Orange County seven one for area code and you say it is how many more nights every night with at least two shows every night from now to December 30 no no no not Christmas Eve Christmas Eve they can't because you know I don't to tell you the truth I don't know of any church in the world that has more than seven identical Christmas Eve services to you-know-who Crystal Cathedral which only seats 3,000 people and that really isn't many compared to the larger churches of five and ten thousand but we have seven Christmas Eves services I preached at all seven yes three o'clock is the first one mercy then 4:30 then six o'clock then 7:30 then nine o'clock then 10:30 and then midnight at midnight is bilingual and one Carlos Ortiz will preach then two and that's in the Spanish tradition the crows you hear the rooster crow through the entire Crystal Cathedral it's midnight Christ is born but in ng knowledge it's just fabulously beautiful because the snow falls in the cathedral oh we have a whole block long of Christmas trees and they all get covered with white snowflakes it's beautiful let's go go again just beautiful yes we but we take our family every year to see glory of Christmas they love it great may I say one final thing before you go dr. Schueller and this is this is I don't think I've ever done this publicly but I I feel constrained to do it now I don't know if you will even remember this but back in the I guess mid seventies when TBN was just getting started you opened the doors of it was not the Crystal Cathedral and it was the old church yes just the what what did we call the old church a garden grow community garden grow Community Church and allowed us to come in and we had several TBN rallies and sang and preached and encouraged people to get behind this new fledgling little TV station and then network and we weren't welcome at every Church by the way but you and your wonderful people welcomed this kind of unknown quantity into your church and you allowed us to use your you didn't even charge us for it and I want to thank you for that that was very kind thank you anyway thank you for the thank you you can send your contribution to five for glory yes I know we got it up there Laurie were also married in the crystal cage right yes and your son is producer and does camera work for us yes Paul jr. yeah yeah he is really good I know yes very very good they both are and everybody the Cathedral of works in producing our power they respected tell them thanks I will and he respects you and you know people say to me what's the real secret about bobbin Arbella Shuler what are they really like you know and I say listen you can ask me from now to the end of time you never really know you should talk to my kids and you can be proud of your children and I'd say that's the strongest affirmation your characters can possibly get they know who you really are they've seen you at your best they've seen you at your worst they have seen heard your professions of faith and they see whether you really live it or not and they're walking in the faith today which is proof of the fact that they saw you walk it and see you walk it so I thank you thank you I love you sir appreciate you stopping there and together may your ministry grow because it is in Jordan it isn't mine and the longer we live the more we realize there is one Lord one faith one kingdom of God and we all belong to it and would you in this segment with that wonderful little benediction that you end every now rule No may the Lord bless you and keep you may the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you and may God give you his peace in your going out and in your coming in in your lying down and in your rising up in your labor and in your leisure in your laughter and in your tears until you come to stand before Jesus in that day in which there is no sunset and no dawning amen Merry Christmas God loves you so do I ah Thank You dr. I think he is the definition of gentle man we love him very much you know him of course in the followed his career through the years a very well-known film television actor Broadway actor aren't you an airplane two or three now and you know I just I just heard tonight driving down here that Dana Andrews died today no really ain't it oh my god to live this morning I know and it's you know we had an extraordinary experience in in that film Dana and I in in in 1963 we were in a picture together called the crowded sky and it was about a mid-air collision and Dana was was it was a passenger pilot I think he was I think he was flying a dc-7 in those days a big big passenger plane and I was flying a little Navy jet and we had this collision in midair and I went down and crashed and he was able to bring the passenger ship in 12 years later I was called to do airport 75 and it was a story of a mid-air collision of a big jet a jumbo jet and a little plane cause Dana's flying a little plane so we collided twice in the sky and I saw him you know just before that I said Dana you know what's where in this picture again together we can better stay out of the sky when we ride but I remember some of the the good ol days Jan and I used to watch you all remember 77 Sunset Strip and cookie and his crazy comb and then of course the FBI series and you know how that comb came into being no it's interesting if we have a second please we made a pilot it was actually a second pilot we made the first one didn't sell and it was called girl in the run and it was about a girl who was who was having a hit made on her and we were hired the two of us to protect her well Edie Burns was under contract as I was at Warner's and he played mostly heavies in those days and he was the hit man in this in this in this pilot and the night of this assignment he's on his way to kill his girl he goes into and he stops on the way in a bar and he sits down at this bar with it with a mirror all the way across wall-to-wall mirror and he as he wait was you know has his drink in front of him or whatever he takes a comb out and he and he starts calming and there's a very sinister and he's gonna kill the girl and he's combing his hair very sinister feeling of it well when that's sold they made him a parking lot attendant and kept the comb and that's how the whole thing I see yeah now who played the part of Kiki it was at Burnett burn yes yeah so that's how the comb the chrome came in you have to be a the kids won't probably remember that but us older guys we remember 77 cents is incredible is it well of course she's fine Jan thank you she's doing a play back in Cleveland right now I'm going back soon to see her Remington Steele John now again you played some part yes great fun being a being on her show I loved it a little shop talk here let me ask you a quick one today system when you're doing a film like that do you literally have to memorize all those those lines and well yes but not not not the whole piece at once at one just the scene you're going to do you know it or the night before you learn the lines for the next day which are usually not too much in television maybe maybe six pages or something like that in movies less usually in it take do you sometimes wonder off the script a little bit Oh ad-lib here and there and know you that gets cut and you do it again oh I'm it's too bad but but it's nothing like a play where you have to remember the whole thing from beginning to end that's what's really tough that's right that's Broadway now isn't it yeah I like them both there I like them I like them both it they had their own virtues that has something about it that that's fresh every time and I mean the film medium has you finish something put it away and you come back the next day do something new play you do over and over and if you're successful and so there's that thing that you know it becomes tiresome after a while you want it to run you don't want it but the longer it runs ISM I want you to really think and pray with me now Ephraim because China cry was a wonderful success it's it's all of the money has come back now we're ready to produce another film now let me tell you and there will be a part for ephraim in this one because we are going to be looking at a at a book that it is a novel but it is based upon scripture of the rapture and the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and it will be a great tool for evangelism a great soul-winning drama and in the scheme of the rapture in the second coming let's see who were there from who could be based on real-life characters it'll be just yeah a family member it's the incredible thing is trying to I mean when one talks about the rapture or theorizes about it about how it's going to be and so forth it's it's one thing but when you think of actual details of family life and all that kind of thing in the middle of a rapture it's it's very difficult I could never tell you a funny experience I had them years ago with Jack Hayford when I was still going to church on the way Jack Freeman Anna very sweetly invited me to dinner one night and I turned up the the the door was open and there was a screen door but the front door was open and I I rang the bell and nobody came and I I kind of knocked on the door and there was no no reply so I just opened the door and and there was dinner cooking on the stove you know and everything they're all set for the and nobody there and I suddenly thought oh they were next to I had that experience really let me tell you my little story and this one is real scary but this was on the Thanksgiving Day when I was just a young boy probably 12 or 13 years of age and I walked in to the house and the turkey was on the table the gravy was steaming everything was laid out I mean the forks the knives the plates and everything and the whole family was there and nobody was around I mean nobody I had been out playing and I walked in and I absolutely turned pale what had happened is you know my father passed away when I was just a young person at seven and they'd all jumped in the car the cemetery was just very near to our home and they just run over to the cemetery to just have a little time and put some flowers on the grave and I walked in and I mean it was a number of minutes and and when you see the turkey steaming on the table and the gravy in a date is everything I'm not a soul well that's those kind of details it will happen yes those intimate things won't you know it's it's we say one will be taken and the other won't but that's vague but here are specific things that are there going going to happen I mean I mean you'll walk into your baby's room and that baby will be gone absolutely baby will be gone yeah and it's just it's going to be it's going to be something it's going to be something I know what Efrem would be he should be like King Gustav of Sweden or something like that you know one of the groundless area beliefs yeah or maybe the President of the United States or you know one of the crowned heads of Europe he'd make a great king in the crown yeah yeah one side with the braids and the fried eggs and everything hey seriously pray with me about that everywhere were in Matthew my son and that I is going to be all right we claim that in Jesus name and I do with you amen and he's both eyes well the other one not nearly so seriously but they think maybe a little corrective surgery might be in order there but but the reason I said Matt is he loves he just got into China cry and was so thrilled so excited about it and I talked to him just the other day about how about it son should let to sink our teeth into the the next film and he said I'm ready to go dad so that's wonderful that something had an added come on could we go back and relive that little drama that happened dear Lord how many years ago now Efrem I don't really know I think it must mmm 15 it was back in the 70s the the mid to 70s it was well I don't my memory isn't isn't his you know sheriff fun as as it was but something about the details of it but I remember it was at the time and I think there was just channel 40 then just one state one station yes sir and I somehow was led to watch it and I night after night I found myself watching it and sort of disassociating myself I was I was watching it you know in a sort of impartial way and I came to to to love you both so very much and so many of the family that were on here as well but it was it was it was almost spectating for me it was it was like a theater go I'm watching you and now wait a minute in the very early days wasn't there a little bit of skepticism there as far as others because there are people watching out there say it can't be real that's right that's right that's right it you see I I wish like I wish with all my heart I could tell everyone out there what would I have learned from these two wonderful wonderful people I mean I would I would put my life on the line any second for them there is there have been a lot of unfortunate things that have happened in the body of Christ and in recent years but this is absolutely whole rock here of integrity and stewardship and devotion and love and these are the two dearest people in the world and I just love you both so much you have proved that love so many times and in so many ways well I I called up one night as you as you remember I just felt it was my time I thought this is I thought you were talking to me that night and I called I called up and I think that was a lovely prayer partner called Barbara I think was who talked to me and she Jan happened to be walking through there the prayer room at the time that I that I was on the line and she she came on all of a sudden and and and I was talking to well I never thought this would happened to me and my wildest dreams and I get talking to Jan I thought you know that's that's like the other word you had to start at the very bottom but now let Jan cut is say what was it the little prayer partner said to you as she did that we're just recalling this together because we haven't mentioned it but she said he says it's Efrem Zimbalist jr. and I said oh let me and let me just back up just a little bit that day in prayer for the program as I had so many times pray and our number one prayer for the praise program every day is Lord let souls be saved let somebody find you as their personal Savior and that day the Lord had just reminded me to read the story of the one lost sheep that the ninety and nine were in the fold but there was one special one that was wandering and the Shepherd left the hold sheepfold to go after that special one so I don't remember who was on that night but it was somebody very special maybe was it Dwight or somebody all somebody very special I remember it was a wonderful night and when the the prayer for salvation was given I just thought I was reminded of that very special one that the Lord was going to go after that would make a difference in the kingdom and so I just walked back to the booth and when she said he says it's Efrem Zimbalist gene I said oh let me take this one so I said hello and when this gorgeous melodious voice came on I to her and then we got to meet him and got him into Pastor Jack's Church and I guess I don't know remember how long it was after that that I that I came out it was about six weeks I yeah I can we call pastor Jack immediately someone very special has come into the kingdom and he called you know he was so good it was a genuine salvation dear friends as you see 15 years later Ephraim has blessed us through these years and how many have been saved as that good seed of the word Ephraim has gone out just day after day after day with joy that gave me Paul I know it does really it does I love the fact that I've been a little fly on the wall at TPN and then in addition to that have you all noticed our beautiful new logo would could we just play the net ID right now with a very melodious voice so who says this is the can we do that master control or somebody just give me the net ID and I just never grow tired of seeing this lovely new isn't that the code of our logo lovely Matthew my son worked very hard beautiful and I love the airiness and the filigree quality of it the gold go ahead just punch it in there it is [Music] this is think they're I didn't intend anyway I thought I brought comes to take it just a touch it was classy it was it was great anyhow that night was a very life-changing night for Ephram Zimbalist jr. it was and I don't know do i I I'm always searching for the key that made the difference for a particular individual maybe you can't I think some things are just so gradual but is there any thing that you could put your finger on that really caused you to just call that night make the decision that night pray with the prayer partner that night really give your life to Christ that I can't put my finger on on anything Paul except that you know through my life and there had been moments of change and moments of where I suddenly was was inspired to do certain things and it just seemed that it was the fitness of time when it happened and not because any exterior event particularly I think he was in this case just just more have more than anything goes to saturation of watching you night there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying glory to God in the highest and on earth peace goodwill toward men it came away and it came to pass as the angels were gone away from them into heaven the Shepherd's said one to another let us now go even unto Bethlehem and see this thing which has come to pass which the LORD hath made known unto us and they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph and the babe lying in a manger when they had seen it they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child and all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds but Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart and the Shepherd's returned glorifying and praising God from all the things that they had heard and seen as it was told unto them tell me the old old story Jesus and his love that never grows old does the growth you think you know some more and more in the world today that it never happened I mean you'd think that for so much that you hear on television and radio and so that Christmas is just a matter of shopping malls and something called the Christmas spirit and the world will have to get rid of you and me before they'll ever not be reminded of it every year and every day and every hour of every day praise God that this beacon goes out from here reminding people well let's
