tasmania is a land of rugged beauty a place of wild and overwhelming landscapes it's comparable in size to scotland in the united kingdom and it's made up of vast mountain ranges dense forests raging river systems and hundreds of kilometers of jagged coastline this place is truly magical and it's home to some of the best four-wheel driving in australia i tell you what it's great to be back [Music] right now we're heading down to the mount mccoll track look at this scenery it's just insane [Music] we began our trip by saying goodbye to the mainland when we boarded the spirit of tasmania at the port of melbourne this ship leaves once a day and travels overnight to devonport while you sleep in one of the well-equipped cabins we had a great feed in the a la carte restaurant as we pulled away from the harbour and began our 250 kilometer journey across the bass strait you get to tasmania early the next morning too good we headed south west along the murchison highway towards queenstown where we'll be attempting some of the best tracks in the surrounding area like the one we're on now just 20k south of queenstown the beautiful mount mccall track [Music] hey ellen you were uh you were born in queenstown weren't you [Applause] once we got old enough the bikes went in the shed and these things come out so even into four wheel drives most of your life i suppose yeah mostly life we've been down much about with my dad and sort of yeah i used to do a fair bit of four wheel driving and shooting that 75 series running our old ones bobby the model after your shape you're in now a bit of a change moving up for the v8 oh lovely plenty of power comfortable yeah i don't think i'll go back i think i'll stay with it the views along the mount mccall track are breathtaking and it really gave us a good look at the area that'll be our playground for the next few days as we drive along taking in the sights it's easy to forget that a historical protest was fought just at the end of this track down at the bottom of this track is the franklin river one of the wildest rivers in the world the track was punched in when they were going to build a dam down there back in 1978 the tasmanian hydro electric commission announced their intention to build a dam but by 1982 the site at the end of this track became a battleground for a monumental campaign to stop the dam being built people came from all over the world to save the franklin river and in 1983 the campaign proved successful the dam was stopped and the river was saved but it'd be pointless if future generations of australians can't come in to enjoy a look at it too wouldn't it if you can't do that there was no point [Music] the mount mccall track is a 22 kilometer drive from start to finish and it's rated as medium difficulty that's a bit silly it's pretty easy but as well as being used for sightseeing alan tells me that these days the rafters use this track to access the mighty franklin river as the track is in the tasmanian wilderness world heritage area before you drive it authority must be obtained and entry fees paid to the parks and wildlife service office in queenstown or strawn i guess they've got to make their money out of something haven't they now that there isn't any electricity to sell how glorious is this lovely wow beautiful absolutely is that's the lake we went past that's the one we come past this morning that's unreal so queenstown must be just over that ridge over that ridge right behind him wow you know i noticed on the altimeter that we've gone from like 80 meters to 850 and we've been going like this we've been going four five six hundred meters at a hit just up and down looking yeah yeah it's just magnificent you know there's two things you're finding increasingly all over australia and especially here in tasmania one is gates and the other one is blokes with motor graders coming in and sorting out the tracks and on this mount mccall track we found both gates at one end and a beautifully smooth track oh well it's not exactly four-wheel drive action but look at the scenery look at that that makes it worthwhile for me what a beautiful bit of australia time to head off we want to put these vehicles through their paces so we've managed to convince alan to show us something a little bit more challenging on the way we've got to drive through allen's hometown of queenstown queenstown's history has long been tied to the mining industry as the surrounding mountains are rich in minerals such as gold and copper since the early 1900s the minerals have been extracted and smelted right here in queenstown the result of this was that the hills surrounding queenstown was stripped bare of timber to fire the smelters and the sulphur fumes killed everything else well queenstown assumed a similar look to the surface of the moon this led to the town becoming somewhat of a tourist attraction because of this so-called ecological disaster and it was believed that the fauna wouldn't grow back for thousands of years well look at this 50 years after these claims were being made it's pretty easy to see that there's been substantial regrowth so much so that the locals are concerned as driving the tourists away oh dear mother nature eh she's a force you just can't reckon with five k's north of queenstown we hit the turn off for lake margaret and head towards our next challenge robert that's um 76 series of yours it looks pretty cute yeah she's a brand new one ruthie she's got i'm just looking down at the speedo here she's got 1468 kilometers on it yeah obviously you got the protective gear on straight yeah it was a bit of a rush getting it ready many thanks go out to tjm you know the bar and the side rails look good you know with the big 63 mil tube and the suspension in it's working out well with those gold edition shops and uh and the coils did an awesome job really have you got no lockers we've uh we just didn't have time to uh to go that far i know that the producers promised you you wouldn't get it scratched yeah i was a bit towie a brand new car i actually didn't even want it to get dirty from that moment on robert became known as no lockers bob but joking aside he really wasn't keen on getting that new track of his dirty and to be honest i don't blame him well we've been pestering al to give us more of these good tracks this is what he's come up with the boulder hill track and by the look of it you need a big pair of boulders to do it too let's give it a go come on fellas [Music] this one starts out steve have these boulders on the side the track don't clean up in the middle just make it more challenging this track follows the electricity pollens that head out from lake margaret power station the first hydroelectric facility ever built in tasmania boy those guys servicing the lines must have some fun getting in here right some beautiful views down here gentlemen 410 meters we are so we've come up uh about 170 meters since we left down that's a serious better climate and that short distance john very seriously go [Music] this really sweet country experienced it before in tasmania it's really steep and it's loose you know so a bit of momentum that helps no end traction control can work nothing beats a locker especially a rear locker that's where the weight's being transferred and it's the rear locker that's getting milo up here because it hasn't got the power that the v8s have got it's a bit loose here too and that's where the locker comes in straight away as soon as it gets loose truck starts hopping around a bit you're not going to get traction anywhere without a locker unless of course you're no longer bob who seems to be hanging on in there so far i wonder how he'll do if this track gets any worse well looks like we're going to find out oh boy good idea al this looks a bit steep mate i reckon i'll tell you what i think it might be time to let some air out of the tyres this terrain is exactly what we need to testers and our vehicles it's very rocky and very loose there's plenty of potential diff bangers in there and the loose stuff could easily send you sliding off the side man's got to have a bit of mountain going into living tasmania i reckon for added traction we're going to drop our tyres down to about 16 psi and get those tyres hugging the ground as much as they can really helps in the loose stuff jack doesn't like it i wonder how no lockers bob's feeling right now he's a bit quiet back there here we go again allen's up first in that big v8 let's see what he's got oh way to go ali's floored it there i was thinking it was a bit of a light foot oh lots of mumbo down the bottom i like your stuff well alan just booted it and he's got nearly all the way to the top with very little problems oh that was a bit interesting there yeah but yeah i'm really out of your way now okay i'm right behind you off i go i've got the rear locker in and although i'm not going quite the same place as alan i'm still crunching my way up these boulders i can tell you looks nice and loose there john i've got to focus though because any slippage here and you can easily spew off in the wrong direction [Music] certainly look like it from here excuse me they're excused coming up as dave's turning the patrol now dave has this way of making things look easy and this is pretty typical too he gives it the berries gets up a bit more pace and then lets off a little bit and cruises to the top not a bad thing those two years just don't tell anyone a wild ride up there brothers let's go look at those ladies here as a crack bro flat out well within reason anyway 80 series has got some serious grunt this should be a piece of cake rear locker in real lockup check having driver on one side sort of keeps the truck nicely balanced this is this 80 really is a weapon glenn only finished it the night before he left too very sloppy and choppy back there so great traction yeah turbo whistling away yes ah too easy good on you glenn well done guys [Music] get ready boys here we come now this is going to be a real test come on boys [Music] ah good audio robert great driving mate no traction control no lockers just lots of mumbo now all we've got's a short drive up until we crest the hill we have climbed another 100 odd meters since i last told you how far up we were geez nice up here the view is just out of this world ah tasmania [Music] hey i reckon you can see uh why they call it boulder hill right i think that's because you've got to have big bowl just to handle it boys yeah i reckon she's more than a berry hill it's funny looking look too it's a real uh conglomerate you know it looks sort of like god's concrete or a bit something snow uh off to our right at about two o'clock oh yuck the saving grace with that snow i think is that it'll be inaccessible to us 28. no anything but grover anything but don't worry don just sit back relax and soak up this wonderful landscape i reckon it's time to find a camp [Music] by the time we reach camp the weather's taken a turn for the worse but that's no surprise the locals say that it's pretty common to get four seasons in one day down here hey fellas never had this weather right they've turned it on for us oh there you go i'm going to be comfortable as i'm off the ground we've got a great swag and this will keep some of the weather off i hope this weather clears up by tomorrow though hello yeah no i'm not drunk it's a sat phone we're definitely going to need a roaring fire tonight it's pretty cold already it's at least a four dog night i reckon i can only imagine what it's going to be like after nightfall while the boys get the fire going i'm going to have to sort out a few things there's no rest for the wicked is there the morning after the night before and it's not quite the sunny day i'd hoped for oh well the air here is crisp and fresh in fact it's some of the freshest air in the world better believe it when it's about five degrees below zero [Music] i don't know where we're off to today but our reckons it's going to be a corker i can't wait [Music] a short distance out of queenstown and we've got to one of allen's favorite tracks this is the track with no name sounds intriguing [Music] oh wow this is more like it mate yeah this would be a challenge for you roofie i reckon well i asked for it you've delivered it by the look of it does this go all the way to the top of that hill right to the plateau fair far out there's a bit of climbing involved what do we expect i mean i can see it's pretty tough at the bottom here oh we should get wash outs maybe rear lockers re-lockers yeah step ups that should be good this is going to be great oh challenge good on you mate come on let's go and do it let's go [Music] [Applause] man if this goes right to the top this is going to be a steep little challenge man this rain cloud's coming over the top's a bit of a worry and throttles in a diesel or everything on a hill like this because you can set your revs and maintain a consistency of progress so your wheels aren't jerking and spinning and carrying on [Music] and it's just started to rain again so what we thought was really slippery just became really really slippery wow okay look at this track yep and we're can we go over there unbelievable we asked alan for a challenge and he's certainly delivered this climb is steep as it's got huge ruts washouts loose rocks little ones big ones and to top it all off it's raining alan's up first there's a variety of lines to choose from on this section it's so chopped up that it's kind of hard to choose the best line especially under the pressure of trying to keep up the momentum at the same time oh looks like alan's doing just fine though those v8s are something else aren't they look at that he's at the top my turn come on milo you can do it okay relock is on early in the piece because i need him right from early in the beast um as far as technique goes here you know it's just now in your truck isn't it really knowing what it's going to do i'm hoping i know mine about now bigger hole on the left-hand side but suspension drops beautifully on why so i've coped with it i'm at the top since i enjoyed that two down three to go i'm gonna have a closer look here comes dave in the junior mission and he's got lockers both ends i think he'll only be on the rear locker this thing's got beautiful suspension first step here that's going to be his first difficulty up until there didn't get easy see how he mounts this oh a little bit of left will in the air not much though suspension recovered beautifully hear that no wheel spin he's just holding the revs beautiful picked up a big goalie here and there it goes oh a lovely job now this is his hard bit here let's see how it goes oh well he took a different line to the rest of us so far picked it up beautifully no worries at all looking from here looks like it's going to be a dead set beauty hmm that's the that faced virtually so far so good same technique steady throttle all the way [Music] the camera right there in the middle hope it goes over see what happens here oh he's taking a whole different one go right over to the right hand side [Music] and done it beautiful job here comes robert in the 76 now everyone else has got lockers but robert got his truck prepared so quickly they didn't have a chance to put lockers in so this is the unlocked run on what should be a locked hill ah it's going to be really interesting the guys have flattened it a little bit but let's see what he does and which way he goes did you see that right wheel in the air quite a bit didn't make any difference weight transfer kept it going everyone else with diff blockers us without we will do this this is going to be good this second car's working beautifully he's you think it attraction control the wake [Music] up i mean you know fair enough we've smoothed it out a little bit for him but that was a really good effort that was amazing let's go move it on guys yeah it's amazing how the scenery changes so much down here john it just goes from from totally different landscapes i've never seen anything quite like this a section of track that looks more like a waterfall hey look at that this is going to be a challenge this is going to be good it looks like a clay surface there so we might get a bit of slip and sliding well i think we better have a look but because if the first bit's like this it might get really bad i might use my front one in this wow this just reeks of four wheel drive action doesn't it i'm gonna go and have a good look that's the approach angle from that wasn't it hey look at this somebody's underpairs only in tasmania you can drive a full drive up the wall that's running well let's go and have a look see what's there are two major step ups on this section it's almost vertical and there's water literally cascading down it once you get over these two the ripple's not too bad but it's that that one there's going to killer it could be a cut alan how about i try and bring milo up here first and then we'll see what we need and then we can always use milo as a bit of an anchor up that end the other alternative if you want to bring your truck up first i'm just thinking you've got more paint to lose than me that's all i rather you lose your paint than i lose mine to even think about getting up this first step we're going to have to pack in some extra rock otherwise the front bar won't even clear the top of the step got two little tricks here over there we're setting up first we've got the tree trunk protected we've got the winch extension strap we've got everything reasonably in place and the winch ready to go and i've checked it to make sure it's working why because if we get on a real bad angle there the only thing holding milo back from going backwards will be the winch i want to get out and hurry boy this is exciting ah i thought we were going to miss out whoa here i go you know you want a driving tip i'll give you one stay focused at times like this otherwise in this case i could be rolling all the way back to queenstown it's not much of a plan i'm just going to turn up the throttle put the lockers in and punch it up the right hand bank hopefully that'll work [Music] [Music] real hard what i want to do is drive it on the rear end and slide the back to the left would that be that right [Music] mate i never thought that it happened it's pretty good well right it's wild inside here i'll tell you far ah dave's bringing the patrol up my isu partly apart from stupidity was wheelbase milo was just the wrong length patrol's longer he's a great driver these are just excuses in case he drive straight up it let's see what happens it's a nice straight gu dave take it easy he's very good on the wheel he thinks about it he takes his time concentration here from davis he just tries to find the one place on this track that's got a little bit of traction a bit hard when you're driving up a waterfall a little bit of mumbo and he's there [Music] you know for a bloke he's having a lot of fun you're sure looking serious about it there dave [Music] well done dave great driving he sure put on a performance didn't he geez glenn you've got something to live up to now mate yeah mate you're gonna get the 80 a crack now glenn's bringing up the 80. he's got all the power in the world he's got lockers both end he's got coils all around but this is the first time this truck has ever done anything like that wow that first tip just won't let him pass give it the berries blenno listen to the power the 80's got it's just pumping it out they win now the second step's got hold of him gee that thing's a beast listen to it roaring wow those resistant pipes are unreal glenn's got to be careful with that power because he knows it can work against him and flip the 80 backwards okay if anyone knows how to handle lots of grunt that's why mate glenn had anyone out of the way that's it that's it he's up and over great work lennon that was good fun that's what come here for that was good wow that was a huge effort but i'm going to call it now because we've got a big problem here we keep doing this with all this water coming down here we're going to wreck the track and um you know we'd be winching probably for the 76 i'd say the 79er make it up but we're going to wreck it and you know what it's going to be very exciting coming back down here too we're just crazy just a little bit i'm desperate to get up to the top but i know glenn and dave are too because we want to see what's at the top the view is supposed to be spectacular so um it's not that far we're going to give it a go apparently that was the worst part of the fact so whilst this is fairly tricky it's not that bad so we'll get on up there and have a look [Music] what do you think of the view guys and now it's snowing and it's about negative something degrees wow no view good drive buddy let's go around the other side you can [Music] [Music] there's water cascading down the track [Music] this track has uh deteriorated considerably um in the time that we've been playing around up there hasn't it this has just turned a total slush it's funny isn't it just when you think you're almost home and hosed because you're heading back down again you suddenly remember it was a bit of an effort to get here it's a beautiful sunny morning here in queenstown and we're heading out i've got a bit of a surprise for no lockers bob though you see his 76 wagon is still way too clean as far as i'm concerned so i've secretly arranged to meet an old friend of his called sam who happens to have a reputation for getting into mud into serious mud i wonder if they'll still be friends after today guys let's grab a coffee [Music] you don't have to say good idea oh get on your sand pixel well you've seen robert's truck parked out here sparkling clean isn't it way too clean what do you got in mind for him uh up and down hills muddy holes clay some black sand and different bits and pieces all mixed in but some bigger ones that will definitely make that change color good man let's go okay with sam giving me directions we're heading west out of zion and towards the coast he suggested we take the climbings track from trial harbour and follow it north until we reach granville it's been a while since i've been up here i wonder what's changed looks nice out there today doesn't it goes forever oh a few little washaways and rats i hate rats i can't do anything but i hate rats i can do rocks i can do mud [Applause] feel like a bit of an explorer coming up here no tire tracks looks like being the first through at the cape or something we're going to drop our tyres down here about 16 psi i reckon maximum traction is required when the country's like this it's a totally different terrain again seaside okay the seaside capers not a bloody tree inside all this scrappy little brush stuff awesome whoa i don't like the look of this bridge up here yeah the bridges are very flashy at all but it's an easy way to go around it oh yeah gotcha the climbing's track stretches all the way up to grenville harbour now i've been here before but that was heading south and since then a whole lot's changed the harsh weather has really nailed this end of the coast the tracks all ripped up and apparently most of the bridges here have just about rotted away too go go go go go go looks like we're in for a bit of fun [Music] definitely trolls underneath that bridge [Music] we've got an awful lot of rocks here and um the fill that would normally be between the rocks has been washed away so she's a little bit on the rough side oh and here comes the best of it right now now when you approach something like this really it's all about looking ahead um you want to clear those pumpkins and that's what i'm going to try and do here just pick my high spots for the wheels and then i know the pumpkins will be clear whoops holy dooley just about hit cinderella that time this is good it's not just the weather that changes dramatically in tasmania it's the actual geography the geology of the place itself here we are probably 60 70 k's from where we were just the other day and instead of great big steep mountains with lots of big rocky trenches we've got a whole different sort of country the ground's different it's a lot flatter it's a lot more ripped up in places too there's a lot more clay here and a lot of round stone oh well that's tasmania [Music] oh boy looks like the track is closing right in on us well judging by those other bridges i'm a bit nervous about crossing this one you can usually tell when you're coming up to a creek because there's more vegetation around creeks isn't there this one's a prime example it's totally overgrown have a look at this okay no locker spot time for a bit of bush pinstriping that's a nice scratch there's a couple of nice ones another couple oh nice finally we've got some water nice 20 meter water crossing dave maybe 30 meters looks nice this kind of stuff can be really boggy down in the bottom so it's best to keep up some momentum and hope for the best but something like this your best bet is to put the rear locker in if you've got one and give it a few berries the momentum will get you through [Music] here we go we're in it now [Music] [Music] you ready [Music] this track is throwing all sorts of challenges at us sam was right there's bulging rocks step ups step downs washed out ruts and a few interesting water crossings too [Music] it's late in the day we've got about 10 k's to go to granville it's a monster storm blowing up here on the west coast and what do we got pete this stuff is soft and soggy and just like quicksand we've got no other way to go except through it i've already strapped up milo on the back two ideas there one is if i get through i can pull the other guys through if i don't they can pull me back out well i hope it works there's only one way to find out isn't it let's give it a go [Music] he didn't get stuck that's amazing she's a stinks that bog what was that you dog well robert saw it happen to me so he's not feeling too confident he's getting the recovery gear ready before he attempts to drive it now that's a great idea because this peat bog is stinky horrible stuff you don't want to be kneeling in it i'll tell you come on robert give it the berries let's go get the big girl dirty here we go stop stop stop stop stop there he goes sunk on the right-hand side now the best thing to do stop spinning the wheels in this situation you don't have to dig yourself in any deeper and last we got some mud on it for you robert hey thanks oh boy [Music] see what you get out of here in one go [Music] awful yeah all he needs is a bit of a gentle pull and he'll be out bang look at that he does it yeah beautiful work who's next big day here comes dave with a bit of fancy wheel placement to straddle the muck dave makes it look easy no wonder robert got stuck his tire came away from the bead and he lost way too much pressure oh well bit of a clean up a good compressor leno's turn he's watch what dave did and he came through no problems and alan does the same good stuff we're through the peak bog but hang on i wasn't expecting to find this just around the corner [Music] well get a load of this that has really changed it's all been washed away it's all steps and we've got to fall all the way to south africa right there on the side and when we've done this we've got the other side to look forward to a little bit of wheel placement here everything should be all right i've got a feeling i know who's going to be going first though this should be good better give it a go eh come on you guys this is um [Music] i'm not even excited about this one i'm actually a bit worried because um it's tight it's really tight and it's not like if you miss it you take a little tumble and go sideways or something you know you just spank straight over the edge crunch yeah this is big anyway if i can do it the other guys probably can so um we'll give it a go here i come [Applause] [Music] what we're aiming for there's a bit of luck that rock is going to pick that wheel up and push it that way a bit yep okay it's a bit technical it's good working with dave you know looking noses and the next thing i'm going to do is take it really easy i'm going to go down here on brakes i don't have the lockers on not until i get it straight then i'll whack the rear lock in you should see the view over there we go [Music] hey we've done it oh yes oh the other side the big problem's going to be smashing the diff of course so i'm just keen to avoid that i'm just looking for dave to spot the high spots i know where my dips are and i'm just going to try and avoid good yep oh thank you david checks in the mail beautiful job mate what just going to change my underpants you didn't even notice that did you you stupid dog you're that close to death that's one of the silliest things we've ever done let's go and see if the other blokes are stupid too our game is no locker's ball right there he is with about 1500 k's on the 76 series now and he's coming down this treacherous little bit of slope with nothing but south africa on the other side of the hill this is one of the most extreme little climbs i've ever there's quite a bit of water flowing through here at the moment but with all the rain we've been having up the hill with the tyres let down he's getting good traction on this rock and that's what's helping him along keep going that's that's as hard as i can turn it forward [Music] and here we go there's a pretty nasty step down i think you'll see how i go with a slightly bigger truck and it's a sheer fall off to the left it certainly is dave's managed to eat everything we've thrown at him with that gu beautiful suspension and great driving that's definitely the key plus those lockers we're now down that and going for the creek crossing a life-threatening moment dave but we have to wait till we get the perfect shot his truck's just a little bit longer than mine in roberts so he's got to think slightly differently in terms of meal placement but he's had the advantage of seeing us go through too so you know well we're feeling pretty chuffed so well done dave we got there let's go guys this guy has me is the cliff on the left hand side we're not talking about that bit mate we're not going there well this is one hairy bit mate this this is a hairy bite having seen what the rest of us have done has been figures has got it pretty much chewed up but i'll tell you what you can see from the look on graber's face it's not that easy it really isn't this is one of those places where one tiny little slip new history but gleno's taking my instructions i've seen these trucks through a few times now and i'm well aware of what he can do actually the truck felt really good really really really stable through that didn't it yeah here comes alan in the 79 now he's not frightened of this track but he hasn't been here for a while and even he said boy has it changed over the last couple of years i think what's happened here is that the west coast storms have just blown all the surface away because i came through here at one stage not that long ago and it was quite a decent trek a little later this when he comes up the dips just riding across that rock and it's soft rock so it's just cutting into it a bit but the worry is that it's going to pick up and go bank and shatter it so we'll just try and get this rock into place has been's got a couple on the other side and that just might lift that up enough now just see what happens off you go that's it [Music] well we got the cars across and uh we've done it with just enough time to spare wow what a ride a little bit of damage only underneath this is such a wild place the sea's pounding in the wind's roaring in from the other side it's phenomenal not a place to come unless you're totally prepared your machinery is prepared and you're mentally prepared don't do anything silly here guys you only get one chance i'll tell you what it was exhilarating but you wouldn't believe well that last little obstacle sure knocked out some serious time and we've still got about 10 or 15 case to go before we get to granville whoa this is a denture chopped up track night time a couple of river crossings indicated wow it's all here in a big package and we're in the middle of it driving at night can be treacherous and the headlights can really play tricks on your mind what looks easy can actually be extremely challenging and vice versa the trick is to take your time don't rush things and if you're not sure just stop get out and have a look you could find yourself in some serious trouble if you're not careful just take a look at how that track has completely fallen away that could have been a disaster if i hadn't seen it first you've got to keep hard to the right here and there's still a chance of the track falling away with all our weight on it oh hang on i'm glad i took a look at this bridge before trying to cross it this bridge is just wasted i think i might try that other way going around didn't present any problems for milo but it did feel a little bit spongy underneath oh dear looks like no lockers bob isn't getting the same traction as milo with a few more goes it's clear that he's just not going to make it up here [Music] so thanks to the tjm ox winch which has been working its little heart out this last few weeks i can tell you we're going to haul the 76 up that hill and one of the best things about using rope on a winch like this is that you don't need gloves just whack straight in there and do it same rules apply for getting out of the road though i'm on the megaphone the radios are all dead come up here come on gweno give it the berries plenty of momentum that's what you need yes we're through [Music] done well mate get out of the radius silly dog well that was it our last challenge
