This... is gold.
One time I had two ladies finish their meals, one got a salad and the other got a burger. Their bill was about $50. On their check they put down a card and $20. Normal occurrence, no biggie.
While taking the check, I asked as always (just to be sure) "Would you like me to put in the 20 and put the rest on the card?"
Blank stares. The blankest you've ever seen.
Thinking maybe that wasn't what they wanted, I said "... Or did you just want to pay separately?"
Essentially turned into this skit. Was probably about a 3 minute ordeal - an eternity in restaurant time. They refused to tell me which way they wanted it and were saying things like "I didn't realize it had to be this complicated". I explained to them what I meant but they just were not grasping it at all. How do these people function in society???
This is painful.
Sadly I have a friend who is like this trying to figure out a 20% tip.
She does NOT understand "move the decimal over one place and double".
Thank the gods for smart phones with calculators.
Taco shack worker here. Having flashbacks god dammit.
I had a friend group in high school that the following would occur every time we ate:
Friend A looks at the check. Puts in cash. Done.
I look at the check. I put in cash. Done.
Friends B through E look at the check and engage in a ten minute discussion on who owes what before I take the check and tell them what they owe.
These were mostly straight-A students. Friend A and I had the lowest grades in the group. It's just for some reason they couldn't translate their math skills to real life.
I dunno, have you seen the Beefsteak Charlies episode of The Goldbergs from a couple weeks ago? That shit was the realest I ever saw.

I only got like the thirty seconds in. As soon as the waiter tried to explain how the ladies could take advantage of the deal without having to order the wasteful one (and that one audience member said 'OOOOHHHH') I knew it would get too awkward for me. XD
Side note- Jessica Chastain sounded like Britney Spears on this
It's funny cuz it's true.
sobs
