Switchblade Laws

this is Colin from Cutlass knives again and I want to talk to you guys about the switchblade act switchblade laws automatic knives versus assisted opening and let's see I live in Canada so our blade laws define prohibited knives as a knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button spring or other device in or attached to the handle the knife blah-blah-blah-blah-blah if one is found to be an authorized and unauthorized possession of prohibited weapon by any law-enforcement officer he or she is liable to a maximum of five years in jail and the weapon being seized so there you go examples of such knives include automatic knives such as switch blades centrifugal nuts such as butterfly knives or you know spiked wristbands are actually banned to blade length doesn't matter in Canada but what I want to talk to you about is these knives on the right are switch blades they're stilettos they're absolutely illegal because it's fired by a button on the handle that fires the late blade via a leaf spring so very fast but very legal in Canada which is one of the reasons I don't carry these these are just in my collection for show here's my other one with the wood scales and these knives fire very quickly but they're terribly illegal as you heard about that five year but this knife take a look side-by-side very similar knives same shaped bolsters same wood grain different construction slightly but this knife is absolutely legal but look at how fast I can fire it almost just as fast if not faster than the illegal knives so begs a question why is this knife illegal and this one is not I can open them just as fast but no our laws are totally and completely outdated and the whole reason the switchblade act is around is because of the 50s when the James Dean movies were on very popular you know biker carried a switchblade and absolutely everyone went insane they were terrified of gang violence and bikers and switchblades so they ban them outright which is absolutely stupid I think that automatic knives are a great tool finally I want to talk about this knife this knife is totally legal as well it's a large bokor magnum stiletto and it you can open it fast just manually but this knife actually has a wave feature so as you pull that out of your Pat's pocket it catches and if you pull it fast enough then it will open the knife automatically just catching on your pants pocket this again is totally legal and it can be argued that this is faster than any automatic knife or any switchblade because you can open that simply by taking out or do it out of your pocket as soon as you have it out it's open ready to go it's almost as fast as having a fixed blade with you but you know once again this knife is legal this assisted opening knife is absolutely legal but these two are totally illegal once again that's my rant about switchblade thanks for watching
