today a blade HQ we're going over five knives that everyone should own one thing I noticed on all these knives they tend to be bigger again their work knives they're kind of your every man's knife that's gonna do great what is up guys today a blade HQ we're going over five knives that everyone should own now Zack where did we get our data so we pulled our data from YouTube Instagram and a survey that you guys went and you left us comments on Instagram and YouTube you guys filled out a survey we had over 2,000 responses that's a heap so what we've got on the table is from you guys these are your preferences which i think is pretty cool now the second part of this video Zack and I have done this same exercise and we have pulled two knives from him two knives from me and we have to agree on the last one we'll have a discussion about which two knives shoot you should always have for the rest of your life if you were stranded on a desert island that sort of thing we'll talk about that near the end so let's dive into this what is our first knife sec so the number one knife that you guys voted on was Spyderco Paramilitary 2 not surprising not surprising not surprising now the way we arrived here guys is we basically took the top five brands because what we found is that 43% of you landed in five of these brands on the table the other 67% landed outside of that and so we took the top five brands and then we took a knife from each of those brands right exactly that's correct and so Spyderco was generally the brand 16% of you guys liked the spider wanted Spyderco as your number one knife and then the Paramilitary 2 was 40% popular that makes sense there's a spider within the spider co-brand after that after that the other 60% was just random Spyderco yes so this was the most agreed-upon knife in Spyderco Paramilitary - it's solid you got that compression lock s30v steel g10 handle blade is what three and a quarter not three and a quarter yeah just a great knife and we know that you guys like it because we see the sales numbers and a pair of two is one of the most popular knives of the past five years really it's a classic and it's a great carry - it is so next on the list benchmade is the brand 940 is the knife this is a 940 - - and I suspect in the in the results the 940 came up multiple times the 94 - - they're eager than 40 yeah that was the other thing is none of this was a standardized it wasn't like you could go and like just select a knife so like mining this dad actually took a minute to get it all the different ways you can type in a night we're not survey people but it's kind of fun to see so 940 s30v steel one thing I noticed on all these knives they tend to be bigger again about a three and a quarter inch blade g10 handle but these are knives that people their work knives they're kind of your every man's knife that's gonna do great work so - a reversible pocket clip on that one with your greenback spacers and the axis lock who doesn't love an axis law I love a good access lock if you don't love an axis lock I don't know I don't know next up we've got the cold steel recon one so this has got the sts xhp you know the cold Steel's your carpenter steel they have here made in the USA right hand or left hand carry with a tip-up pocket clip and this one g10 on the handle 3g tins in a row yeah now percentage-wise how many how much did the percentage did cold steel take so cold steel took look at my numbers really quick cold steel took only six of about five and a half percent people voted Cold Steel so from Spyderco to benchmate everybody really agreed on these two brands and then after that it starts to spread so cold still comes in but the Recon one took 25% of of cold steel so the Recon one was definitely the clear winner when it comes to people of green so here's another thing I realized from this entire thing guys is you kind of have these these leaders in the beginning but after that knife preference just goes wild there's so many out there and there's so many different reasons to own different knives that after those first couple it's just like the whole survey almost blew up yes it was like just so varied yeah what I think that but that stands true and I think it just shows especially the people that were taking the survey that people are watching YouTube videos people are commenting on Instagram these are real knife people right and that's the thing is like as knife guys we have we're very specific about what we like and how we like it and you've had the chance to get a couple knives and really learn about them yeah so that spread just shows knives are a very personal thing yeah absolutely next brand on the list is ZT and this one is the 0562 - it's a Rick Hinderer design solid knife and it's not surprising to me that the knife guys chose a ZT yeah and that they chose a Hinderer yeah like this makes perfect sense to me beautiful blade also g10 yeah that which was interesting and I think that g10 is just such a great handle material like I love g10 yeah like for me it's like g10 micarta those are my two favorite handle materials and so that's why I think we see it over and over again so nice yeah so ZT 0562 - and this particular one is a sprint run yeah but the 0562 in general was one or the 562 - however you like to say it next brand on the list is Microtech Microtech Microtech Ultratech so double up obviously double action and yeah just great knife this particular one now the ultra tech comes in a bunch of different plates deals yeah this particular one is bohler m390 and then handle material on this is aluminum got the glass breaks actually g10 oh this is g10 - oh yeah this one is g10 plus aluminum they do come in all aluminum I've got the glass breaker on the back then obviously nice pocket click there so yeah great knife and I think that a no TF making it on the list is actually interesting to me you think so yeah for the top five because more people okay maybe now our people love okay maybe not maybe not and maybe it's interesting to me because like I've never owned an OTF till I got here yeah and that's probably why then I think if you're a knife guy yeah like you got to have that OTF absolutely I agree absolutely so so that's the first part of this guy's is these are the ones that you selected now after the commercial break we're gonna talk about kind of the deeper theory on this Zack and I are gonna dive into what knives we selected and go from there we'll be back right after the break so guys if you've been following any of the news in the knife community over the last couple months you've noticed that the Canadians change some of their knife laws so it's harder or impossible to import most knives into Canada so there's a campaign out there where an attorney has taken up this case and she is fighting it in order to try to overturn that law in Canada so we want to encourage you guys to get involved by donating to this campaign there's a GoFundMe link down below and keeping knives in Canada I feel like the beards the the pine-trees it's all part of that knife life and they need it so if you want to support that definitely check it out it's down in the description below well welcome back guys and a commercial break log it in from there so check it out but before we dive into the knives you chose and the knives I chose and then the knife that we're hopefully going to agree on we have to agree oh yeah we have to agree on it there were a couple really fun responses in the survey there was really there was some really neat just to see some like really deep knife nerd stuff that was fun but there was a couple kind of silliness with it okay so we had one response the smallest visit Sebenza a micro tech Ultratech okay it's all normal and then a big a sword for the zombies I love a great love it everyone needs a sword for it exactly somebody else had for their first knife choice was what their second knife choice is up and their third knife choice guys so classics vol 3 class of three classic classic and then the last one that I really love personally somebody really wanted their number one knife was the sentient switchblade now if you don't know what the sentient switchblade hopefully Matthew is gonna do some magic right here and it's from a front Michonne called Rick and more you might may or may not furtive love it love it okay so let's dive into this so the original question we asked here was if you could only have three knives for the rest of your life which ones would they be now what we saw from the results was that you guys kind of picked not necessarily knife types but styles and your favorites and so that's what we've talked about in the first section now let's get into four reels if you could only have three knives Zack yeah what would they be what's your number one well three knives for the rest of my life that's it this is if I can only like my three favorites be a little bit different sure right so three nights for the rest of my life or a utility for utility right exactly so my number one I have to go with the Leatherman search really just like that just like that that's a multi-tool though this is a multi-tool but it's nice yeah that's true this is what I'm getting at is what I'm getting at is I would go with the search one I've carried a search for over a decade right in my professional work love this love this knife love this tool whatever you want to call it great great great but this is why be my number one is I get a good blade right I get a bunch of tools on it and I know I have whatever I need wherever I'm at so that would be my number one day-to-day like my as an EDC yeah I don't carry it too big do you want to see my number I want to see your number one now I went the same route is actually the knife I've owned since I was probably like nine or ten yeah I don't even know the model it's a Victorinox it's similar to a Victoria Knox camp model same reason tweezers pliers like two knife blades that sort of thing this is a simple tool yes is not high speed over here but at the end of the day like I was out hiking out in the desert a few months ago and I stepped on a cactus well like I didn't step on it like I ride it again back to stepped on you yeah no I characters and I ended up with a spine in my foot I needed tweezers and granted you can pack that in your bag and that sort of thing totally but knowing that I have all of these tools right here is fantastic to me yep so I'm with you like if I had to have one knife or tool for the rest of my life I would go with either Leatherman or Victorinox Swiss Army knife just straightforward yep love it ok what's your number two okay my number two I don't care I don't care if anybody judge with me for it judge yeah you ready to judge okay I saw the movie hunted this is how I learned about it I don't have a lot of you guys probably had the same experience this is how I learned about this knife right yeah and then I start learning about like some things surrounding this knife I know there's some controversy here and there so putting all that aside yeah just the knife itself if I had on one knife I mean look at this stock on that thing it's yeah it's not you're not gonna break this yeah you're just not gonna break there and later is like as I got older my dad actually bought I've never actually purchased one myself my dad bought one and I went out and used it and there was some comments in the office that you're getting the worst of both worlds with this knife it's not a great knife it's not a great it's not a great too you know axe hatchet we're gonna call yeah I've used it to be honest like it's not like it works I've never used it yeah used to have you used this top portion no I yes I've never used the SOB portion cuz I can't speak on the saw this is actually sitting on your desk yesterday I picked it up and I thought this looks worthless to me yeah so if you own a Tom Brown tracker yeah let us know let us know cuz I've never used that one but as far as a hard use knife something I know will never break and it's gotta last me literally the rest of my life I would go with something like this and I could go with the tracker because it's got a special place in my heart Farra know that's all it is some similar stuff it a little bit install just so I went the same direction you did and this one's actually mine too so I own it I went se4 cool so again this to me is kind of your quintessential fix blade where it's gonna get the job done thick stock maybe not as thick as a tom brown tracker right but still it's a good night yeah these are great knives very nice so I guess maybe not particularly like the models of Victorinox or se um but the concept behind it is that you've got a knife you got a multi-tool and you've got a beater where it's like are I gotta get some work done yep here's what I'm gonna do so those are kind of my two knife choices if I had to just take two for the rest of my life I like it that's what I take I do feel like I'm at a disadvantage though I didn't know we were bringing in our personal knives yeah well I should have just brought in what I have okay nice dirty sir now you have to know you have to by the time I got a buy at um broad tracker now okay so there's our two but this is a conversation about five so there's my two there's your two right we've got to agree on one and in fact the reason we did this survey guys this portion is Kazak and i sat there for an hour no joke and argued about what knives should be in this video yeah and kind of the methodology behind it no joke an hour and finally we're like forget that we're gonna ask the people so if you ask you guys but we've got to agree on one say I know you've got one in your pocket I got one all agree yeah we all love we all love okay I just want to point out we got we got good multi-tool knife blade right nice fixed blade so what we're missing is is a folder right like holder and all of these have a little bit of pizzazz a little bit of pizzazz so we went we went hard possess yeah hard possess you and I agree yeah yeah we agree we're all there Bofur mermaid just love this knife is great you know you got you got your deep carry pocket clip oh yeah right like beautiful styling absolutely if you're on a desert island you won't feel lonely you have a nice beautiful mermaid to be with you yeah but then you have one qualms with this night yeah I mean just one so I actually have - OH - oh it's gonna I think we're gonna do some aftermarket seashells for okay I know there's some folks and I don't know what I'd want my daughter like carrying this around all right so after marks after Marcus he's on it and then you know this deep carry clip it doesn't have those those recessed right if it would do that it'd be perfect nice but guys have you seen the flipper on this the flipper is actually a flipper like it's amazing it's it's incredible it needs a little wrist flick to it but yeah this is the knife that we agree on guys there you have it five knives that everybody should own you can buy all of these and thousands and thousands of other knives the plate hq.com thanks for watching let us know what is what are your - lets go to on the comments this yeah two knives did you'd have forever not your favorites but your two knives forever so there you have a guys thank for watching be sure to LIKE and subscribe we'll have another video coming out for you next week dan forgot the mailbag yeah we got some you know what we mailbag did we mailbag did a bit with that a little bit I guess but it's kind of it 14 minutes not bad
