father gary castle a priest from the diocese of tulsa oklahoma his theme is very timely be not afraid child care will be provided as well as light lunch so please plan on taking this time so as to son your child and the church shares your happiness today this joy has brought you to the church to give thanks to god for the gift of your child and to celebrate the new world in the waters of baptism this community rejoices with you for today the number of those baptized in christ will be increased and we offer you our support in raising your children in the practice of faith therefore brothers and sisters let us now prepare ourselves to participate in this celebration listening to god's word praying for the child and her family and renewing our commitment to the lord and to his his teacher why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own how can you say to your brother brother let me remove that splinter in your eye when you do not even notice the wooden beam in your own eye you hypocrite remove the wooden beam from your eye first then you will see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother's eye a good tree does not bear rotten food now does a rotten tree bear good food for every tree is known by its own food for people do not pick figs from thorn bushes nor do they gather crips from brambles a good person out of store of goodness in his heart produces good but an evil person out of store of evil produces evil for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks the gospel of the lord [Music] dear brothers and sisters in christ before i share my reflection on this sunday the a sunday in ordinary time on behalf of 26 pilgrims nick and john and i are deeply grateful for your prayers and support during our pyramid to the holy land we had a wonderful time and we're blessed to be able to visit these holy sites even in the middle of the pandemic every day we united with you and the world in celebrating the holy mass we started our journey from the sea of galilee of capernaum and ended in jerusalem we visited and followed the footsteps of our lord jesus christ his life mission and greetings today invites us to the true discernment of people's attitude character and identity the first reading is from the book of sirach talks about testing it is necessary to reveal the true nature of every person just as a thief reveals the hurts and the glacier is molded in the fire so also a man's character is revealed when he speaks the lesson being pointed out here is about the need to discern the attitude and character of every person and not be easily taken in by the external attitude being shown one has to look inside in order not to be applied by the our appearance and behavior of a person second reading is from the second for the book of saint paul to the corinthians talks about the remaining steadfast infidelity and commitment to the lord and the fulfillment of their responsibilities saint paul acknowledged the weakness of everyone owing to man's credibility and limitations but this should not discourage everyone from striving for holiness and perfection he says in jesus there's always hope and certainty of victory over sin and death where all that is your victory where or death is your sting and the gospel from saying luke chapter 6 is a lost challenge to all his disciples to avoid all kinds of pride and hypocrisy he urges them to regularly look into oneself and examine his own deficiencies failures and sins it is easy to see the falls of others and condemn or ridicule them but the lord wants them to receive this temptation and always remain humble being reminded of their own sins and feelings the greatest sins of the scribes and fantasies is hypocrisy hypocrisy comes from the greek word which means actor an actor portrays a role that is different from his true self he performs only for show or for others to see in the spiritual life when a person acts contrary to his beliefs and convictions then he is a hypocrite a spiritual actor he may portray an image of holiness and piety especially when inside the church it is obviously to get the admiration and praise of people but in his daily life he is actually greedy and selfish then he becomes an abi abomination to the lord his worship is quite pointless for god looks into the heart he just lied the pharisees and scribes whom jesus condemned pride is the root of all vices is it the plank being deferred by jesus christ that blocks one's eyes to his own failures and sins pride is making the self the center of one's life interestingly the letter i is in the middle of the word pride when one gives excessive importance to the self over and above everybody and everything he becomes blind to the welfare of others this blank had to be removed and let the humble spirit emerge then it becomes easier to admit one's mistakes and be more compassionate and understanding of the sins and failures of others saint gerson gives this important advice he said there is no sin or crime committed by another which i myself am not capable of committing to my weakness and if i have not committed it it is because god in his mercy has not allowed me to or has preserved me in good humility is only anti-note to pride and hypocrisy a humble person is always honest and truthful he truly knows who he really is that he is both weak and gifted he is fully aware of his faults and sins and so he avoid judging others at the same time he also acknowledges and appreciates his giftedness and so develops a spirit of gratitude and generosity the proud person is always ready and willing to lie and deceive others on the other hand god is humble he even became a man and lived a simple and lonely life and suffered death on the cross then he proclaimed i am the way the truth and the life god can never lie and deceive a humble person is always truthful even if the truth hurts because he is ready to admit his faults and sins there is no peace in the world because there is no truth there is no truth because there is no humility to brothers and sisters as we are approaching the holy season of land let us ask the lord to give us the grace we need to follow him with humility honesty and truthfulness amen confident that the law always listen to our prayer let us bring our prayer and persecution to the lord for this local church that the prayer and discipline of lent may unite us more closely with god and with one another we pray lord hear our prayer for peace that god will guide world leaders in diffusing international tensions and help them work together to end famine disease and lack of educational opportunities we pray [Music] for all those preparing to join the church this easter may the lord jesus be their constant companion in life we pray lord hear our prayer for the children being baptized into god's family today may they be born again of water and the holy spirit into eternal life we pray lord hear our prayer for the people of western washington that they may be united with us here in the holy sacrifice of the mass the source and summit of all that is which god gives her is kept safe from the poison of sin to grow always stronger in her heart if your faith makes you ready to accept this responsibility renew now the vows of your own baptism reject satan sin profess your faith in jesus christ this is the face of the church it is the phase in which the child is brought to be baptized so i asked do you reject sin so as you live the freedom of god's children do you reject the claim of evil and refuse to be mastered by sin do you reject satan father of sin and prince of darkness do you believe in god the father almighty creator of heaven and earth do you believe in jesus christ his only son our lord was born of the virgin mary was crucified and was buried rose from the dead and is now seated at the right hand of the father do you believe in the holy spirit the holy catholic church communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting thank you this is our faith it is the face of the church we are proud to profess it in christ jesus our lord amen so i asked one more time it is your will parents that anika should be baptized in the face of the church which we all profess with you yes okay consecration that that that they may become the body and blood of your son our lord jesus christ and whose command will celebrate these mysteries for the night he was betrayed he himself took bread and giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to the disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and giving you thanks but said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my
