hello there you may have just picked up Stellaris from a sale or you've been playing for years and you want to have a bit of a refresher on the game itself my name has been a spec and I have been playing Stellaris for quite some time going through dozens of different tutorials because this game likes to reinvent itself quite frequently for today we're going to be playing in vanilla that means that we're going to be playing without any DLCs enabled for those players that are new to the game this will make life a lot easier and you will not see any sort of in the interfaces then it may not be relevant to you in addition to that we'll be playing as the United Nations of Earth they are a pre-fabricated Empire that is very straightforward and will give you a decent experience for your very first time of course if you're a veteran feel free to build your own nation and play along but for a new player I would recommend playing as this one they are fairly easy to pick up everybody likes them and on top of of that you get to play as humans which I would hope we all are we hit the select button and we immediately find ourselves on the game details screen I would recommend turning off Advanced AI Empires because they can be a little bit annoying and if this is your very first time feel free to lower the technology and tradition costs as well just to speed things up a little bit especially if you can get your economy under control this is something that we need to do now let's uh start the game let's play Until We colonize our very first planet and that may not seem like a very long time but as you can see from the runtime of this video well you may be wrong let's dive into Solaris this was your very first game let's go in and see what happens so welcome to your very first game as we jump in with the United Nations of Earth this is the pop-up that we get we see our screen we have a little bit of fluff we see what our Civics and ethics are this is all stuff that is not important right now we just want to get to the gameplay and once we go a little bit deeper then we can start looking at our modifiers here's a little bit of fluff texts apparently we have a world government let's begin shall we as you can see immediately at the bottom at the top right of the screen is that the game is currently paused yes Solaris is a possible real-time strategy game and it runs at multiple speeds uh usually I like to go at normal speed which is basically what you would happen if you would press spacebar right now but in general we keep things paused for now just to introduce some of the concepts here first of all at the top of the screen are all the resources that are available to us they're basically everything that is important is listed here in terms of what we have in our proverbial space wallet first of of all on the left there is energy which allows us to buy things or upkeep robots we got minerals which allows us to build buildings or create Alloys we'll go into those a little bit sooner uh then we got food which is to feed our population consumer goods which is to keep them happy Alloys which build ships as well as space stations influence which allows us to exert political power and claim territory Unity which is basically our cultural output science which is our science a bunch of strategic Goods that we will not be covering in this video Empire sprawl which is essentially how big our Empire is and how if we're not the bureaucracy is getting too big or not so that's essentially what is referred to here how many population how much population we have in our Empire and I was going to say how many pops uh pops are a abstract version of population it doesn't really matter all that much but but what matters is that this number gets as high as possible how many leaders we have how many we can recruit and how many invoice we have yes it's three topics in one icon uh State Star based capacity is how many Star bases we have and how many we can build this is a soft cap we can go over that whenever we want or uh Naval capacity or and Naval capacity really uh which is how many ships we have and how much more we can build those are the basic resources at the top of the screen it's very straightforward once we get into things and I'll be referring to that as the video goes bye on the left of the screen there's a whole bunch of menus that we are going to ignore for now once we go through the actual gameplay we will be touching on some of these as well as in subsequent videos in the future on the right side of the screen is probably the most important menu in the game it is the outliner and basically it allows us to directly uh navigate to everything that is important whether or not it is our capital or whether or not is a space station or any sort of fleets or construction ships and science ships Etc and we can close that with this here A Button very useful now what are the first things that we are going to need to do in this game well as you can see on the top of the screen there are three items that require our intent attention which is science uh science comes in three categories there is of course uh the physics the society and Engineering research this is all being handled by one scientist who will be taking care of all this stuff and whatever traits they have will be impacting uh the science development basically but yeah at the start of the game we will be given a bunch of options usually it's very good idea to go for science specifically for workers which in this particular case it would be quantum theory Fusion reactor is not something that you need at the start of the game and the research station output is also not important because we do not have any research data stations therefore science in general is quite good on this one well we don't have a couple we don't have any good options here normally you would get a science option here as well I would always go for that unless it's pop growth but we'll go into that shortly uh in this particular case let's just go for planetary unification and finally engineering we will once again go for the science option because we do not need armor and we do not need afterburners at this moment in time uh all science is generated randomly so any options that you have will pop up as time progresses in the next cycle they may not be there but after that they may be so you kind of want to make sure that this list gets as big as possible so you always have the options that you want you may have noticed that we still haven't unpaused the game yet and we're already quite some time into the video now it's time to take a look at our surroundings this is our solar system it's very pretty it's got planets Etc don't get too attached to this you will not be spending a lot of time looking at planets like this directly in fact it's more likely that you'll be spending a lot more time looking at solar systems in this sense where it's more a high level with some details being done here and there it's not really all that important however for the next step we are going to hit M or hit this button at the bottom of the screen and we will be able to see our surroundings welcome to the Galaxy at large here we are in the top side of the Galaxy of course there is no top in space but for the sake of 2D space in this particular case let's just say it is the top of the Galaxy and we can see how the surroundings are all laid out every single star system is connected by these Lanes they're called hyper Lanes they may not all be connected to each other but there is definitely some sort of grid going on where you can send your ships around now we're going to go and send our very first ship around in this particular case and it's going to be our science ship now a science ship is being handled by a scientist in this case it's the same guy who's also running the research and he's got a couple of cool traits but nothing that directly impacts our science which is a little bit unfortunate however he does have a couple of really good science targets uh nearby as you can see there's these two little icons here which are representative of planets that are hanging out in these systems the winset system has got a Eric Arctic World whereas Alpha Centauri has a continental world what does this mean well we are a continental species because we are human therefore it's a good idea for us to go and Survey this system Alpha Centauri because it has a continental planet in it and it's also size 17 which means it's quite big and very very useful now that we've done that we're also going to hit the shift key at the same time and then click on the survey button in the sign ship UI and then just left click on whatever we want to survey after that so we're just going to go ahead and move that all around as you notice may know notice I'm not really interested in this Arctic system because it's not really all that useful for us and we've just queued up a whole bunch of stuff like Again by pressing the shift key we're then going to navigate to our construction ship just to make sure that we don't lose the queue the game can be a little bit finicky sometimes if you click away in a weird way then you may lose your Q very easily so always a good answer just to click on different ship so in the meantime though we also have a construction ship as you can see we got 100 minerals which is enough for us to build a station somewhere if we would want to at the moment we're not going to because well let's put it this way a two mineral station is not a good return on investment it would take us 50 months to get recouped on that one basically uh basic mineral stations will cost us a hundred uh minerals and if we would invest our money in here we would only get two minerals per month times 50 is a hundred there we go 50 months is not all that attractive right now so we're actually going to go ahead and attach this to our science ship and we're going to left click on the construction ship and then right click on the sign ship so that the sign ship will be followed by the construction ship at all time to illustrate this we're going to go and hit the space button which will unpause the game there we go all right and there they are off the science ship and the construction ship heading over towards Alpha Centauri for the very first time for mankind we're gonna go and see we don't know if there's anything out there it is a very exciting time the construction ship and the sign ship heading out to new destinations and off they go so they have just arrived in Alpha Centauri and we're immediately pressing the space bar because stuff is going on within our Empire we're also going to close the hair close this particular screen as well as the outlier because there is a bunch of stuff going on that may be interesting to us now as you can see a lot of the stuff in this system has a great out text what's going to happen here is that the sign Chip is going to go to every single one of these planets and start scanning them for anomalies or dick sites or other things that may have spawned up could be resources as well once this entire system has been surveyed and every single planet is listed in white then we will send the construction ship towards Alpha Centauri a put them in orbit and start building ourselves an outpost to claim the system once that happens we will go a little bit more in detail and we've just discovered our first alien life on Alpha Centauri um yeah this is just a example of an event that pops up the will have options at the bottom of the screen and basically we've gained a bunch of society research which is a very very exciting whilst this all stuff is going on it's time to keep an eye on our economy we open up the outlier and we will just left click on Earth and that will open up a screen oh first Contact simple forms of life very very exciting Welcome To Earth Earth is built up in districts as well as buildings and we'll get to those in a bit because I should have probably paused the game um we should always be cautious when it comes to xenos who knows what is out there anyway Welcome To Earth this is the screen that you're going to be spending quite a lot of time in when it comes to this game Solaris is very much about the galactic economy and setting up your Empire in effective ways and your Capital world is a very very good example of that and is the great balancer for your Empire on this particular screen you will see as I've mentioned districts and buildings districts will generate all the basic resources bar consumer goods and Alloys the most important ones that we have here right now that we need to keep an eye on are minerals energy and food these are the core three that are extremely important for our basic economy Alloys and consumer goods follow that and then finally City districts are also important but but not just yet I'm fine then we have the planetary stability we always want to keep this as high as possible how many people live here how much crime there is how many jobs are available how much housing there is available the amenities uh whether or not they can go to stage plays of Shakespeare and finally how much unemployment there is that's all looking pretty good then at the bottom we got buildings these are all special structures that you can build and we'll do things like generate uh consumer goods or will generate uh Unity or more trade or support stuff for your population there is a lot of stuff to go through here and uh yeah we will be going through that as stuff is arriving there's another tab oh boy yeah there's another tab here of Pops growing and right now this pop is growing slowly but steadily and it will be completed in 25 months that means in 25 months and this last job that is open will be removed and after that a new pop will grow which will get a new job once we get to that point we will go and take a look at that and that's you know it's going to be in 2200 and 2. so let's unpause the game and let things roll out for a little bit and make sure that uh the surveying of Alpha Centauri is going quick we want to speed things up a little bit so we're going to hit the Pulaski or we're going to hit the little Plus at the top here just to speed things up and would you look at that our first big choice of the game has arrived welcome to Traditions now all information that is important will be popping up here but in Traditions in particular is quite important because now we can adopt a new one so this particular screen if you're familiar with any sort of Empire Builder uh this is all where we set up our culture and basically uh the major things that our Empire is going to be doing in the future and that we base all of our policies on if we select one of these we will have another screen that will basically show us a selection of options where we can basically say okay we can specialize in one of these things normally at the start of the game I would recom and either going for Discovery or expansion I know that there's a lot of options here but Discovery and expansion are both quite good expansion is great for um expanding your Empire quickly and cheaply whereas Discovery is very good to find new things in space Etc in this particular case we are going to go for Discovery and we're going to go ahead and adopt that and hit the yes button we will then get this particular screen where we will have a bunch of sub options that will all give us a separate of bonuses in addition to that we've also unlocked a special edict called map the Stars plus we will find anomalies to be researched a lot quicker and once an anomaly is found we will go into that but for now we're going to leave the screen and go to this one over here if we hit F2 or we go to the government screen you will see that we have three people who are in charge of our Empire we got the Minister of Defense we got the president and we have the head of research they all are p people they all have traits and if they have a leader trait which is one of these they will can get an Empire effect where um they can get additional bonuses in this particular case research speed plus three or in case of Dolores eye for talent which means leaders will gain experience faster uh rulers can get 10 levels in total every two levels they'll get a trait if you're playing on vanilla uh these this will be randomized if you're playing with Galactic Paragons you'll be able to guide your leaders a lot more clearly now we did just select the discovery tradition tree which means that we can go to this little button here open edix and then select map the Stars Now map the Stars will cost us 14 Unity per month out of a pool of 15. this is 15 Unity that we just get for free to use and we're just going to use map the stars from that if we would do something that would go over this particular line let's say that we also want to have fortified border at the same time it will cost us 29 a month instead of you know out of a pool of 15 and that will be starting to be subtracted from our total income of unity it sounds a little bit more complicated than it is it's not really all that important all you need to know now is that map the stars is great and you should probably get it at the start of the game there's also policies on the left side of the screen we're going to go and ignore that at the moment it's not that important for our first playthrough and immediately unpause the game and move on with our stuff uh right the first year is just finished and we've already done quite a lot of things here now Alpha Centauri is in the process of being surveyed as the clock starts to move forward the science ship is just about to be finished with uh Proxima Centauri and we just got ourselves another tradition very exciting but here's the question an anomaly cool uh apparently Proxima Centauri B's peculiar orbit around its red dwar the world where Red Dwarf star renders the planet tightly locked and we can investigate that and that's where scientists come in let's go and research this and then immediately this particular spaceship will start serving this planet we can go a little bit more detail by clicking on this and as you can see it'll only take us a hundred days to survey this stuff which is pretty pretty darn exciting but what it does mean however that we cannot survey a finish surveying this entire star system which means that we cannot build up our thing as in our space station which is unfortunate now as I mentioned uh we had the opportunity to get ourselves another tradition are we going to do so though that is the question well in this particular case there is something else that we can do as well let's click on this Shipyard let's go to the shipyard Tab and build ourselves Another Science ship because we only have one and one science ship is clearly not enough to um survey an entire galaxy Full of Stars which is why we're going to build ourselves Another Science ship and put in our scientists on that a scientist costs Unity to procure which is why we're not going to use our tradition points just yet because we need to spend Unity to get Traditions let's unpause the game let's go on fastest here and let's see whether or not this uh particular spaceship is going to get built also this anomaly has just finished and basically we can get a bunch of outcomes here we can get a bunch of unity for this as well as turning this planet into a terraforming candidate in this particular case it doesn't really matter all that much which we pick alrighty so that's done in the meantime our another sign ship has been uh built and we're just going to go ahead and select this and we're going to go down to the left and click on this little icon here so that we can select ourselves a new leader the UI is pretty damn modular so you can navigate around pretty easily and uh yeah you could just move this around wherever you want if if that's something that you enjoy but it's time to hire our first scientist and we basically want to have a scientist that is very good at exploring not necessarily science or anything like that so this particular scientist who will give us a research bonus on propulsion systems is not really all that interesting for us however as scientist that researches anomalies faster is pretty nice except it's a counselor bonus which means that this particular scientist would need to go on the council but we already have a person in that spot which means that we have two options left which is this particular person who's got a survey speed bonus which basically will allow us to survey faster and this person who will give us plus four food which we don't need so this particular one is by far the best one we can recruit this person for 97 unity and they will cost us to Unity a month to basically have good they are recruited and we are immediately going to go to the map and we're going to do the same thing as we did before we're going to hit shift and survey and we're going to survey just in the other direction this time around and basically just to put ourselves a nice little net and uh you know survey around see if we can find anything cool and that will be that in the meantime The Colony ship uh well the construction ship even is ready to build a station in this particular system we right click on the star and we we can build the star base it will cost us 75 influence as well as 90 Alloys or if we go to the map by pressing M we can just right click on the star and just build a star base in the same way if you have a trinary or binary system and it's not particularly clear on what we can do there now we have another tradition we don't necessarily need to go for the same uh this same tradition again we can just pick something else like we can go for um that expansion the tradition if you want to or Prosperity Prosperity is quite good but there's a bunch of options here that you can select and just read through them and see what you like in the meantime though we're just going to go ahead and stick with this we're going to go for both the go which will increase our survey speed which is exactly what we want and basically we'll be able to discover things faster and more efficiently we got a second one straight away as well because we got that event earlier from Alpha Centauri which is nice uh we're not going to go for data Bank up links just yet because we do not have any bonuses that apply to research stations now we're going to go for science division because we will get additional research Alternatives which is great for us because it means that we can basically select new science now remember what I said earlier that we have a pop that is going to grow in 24 months well 24 months are about to finish from what I see here yeah in four months time construction we will have ourselves a new pop and they will start to do new things and there we go and there she is okay as you can see immediately that pop will take a job that is available and now we have zero jobs within this particular part of the world what we can do here now is take a look at the top of the screen and take a look at which Goods we need all right now we're very low on consumer goods so it may be a good idea to build a industrial district which produces consumer goods so we're just going to go ahead and click on the industrial district and just build and off we go now because this is our Capital world we can also go to the features button and select sprawling slums sprawling slums will generate a free pop which is rather nice because pops are the most important resource within the game because they will populate your planets and do all the work this does however mean that in approximately 40 months uh this job will now also be filled because a industrial district will generate uh two jobs which means that if we get two more pups those jobs will be filled which means that we need to build the next building never overbuild your districts they do cost upkeep and they do cost minerals to build only build them when you know that you need them otherwise you're going to end up with these gigantic planets um that yeah just costs a lot of resources to upkeep and also a lot of resources to build only build one of them at the time on if you can afford it in the meantime though it looks like construction has been completed in Alpha Centauri which is an exciting time and it means that we have now claimed this solar system for our Empire and the Border has grown and it means that we have more stuff available to us now let's go and click on the planet here because it means that we can now colonize this world we can colonize Alpha Centauri 3 there's a lot of stuff going on this planet looks really really nice and we've got a lot of minerals on this planet which means this would be an excellent mineral production world not food not energy minerals it's got they've got a lot of them maybe a dash of energy it could work good work we also have a features button here which basically tells us what kind of features we have on this planet this is the information you do not need the only information that you need here is that there's blockers which you can get signs for to remove and as you can see here there's a couple of strikethroughs on the energy basically saying hey you cannot build here now let's colonize this world but oh no we do not have enough consumer goods we're actually lacking five consumer goods in order to get our Colony ship going here that's prop that's a problem that is a big problem if only we had something to deal with this and welcome to the market because we need consumer goods so let's click on consumer goods this will open up the market tab the market tab basically shows us hey these are the goods that you can buy from the Private Industry in order to fill up your needs so at the start of the game you're going to be using this quite a lot because right now I need consumer goods but I don't have enough of them so I can buy 50 consumer goods for 130 energy and I got 2 000 energy in the pool which is great so let's just buy 50 energy and now I've got all the consumer goods that I need to build the colony ship that I wanted you can do this with other Goods as well let's say I need Alloys I can buy those Alloys and consumer goods are quite expensive so do be careful but food and minerals it's all possible we can also sell these to the private Market as well and get money for that which we can then spend on other materials so for instance I got a thousand food right now and I want more consumer goods let's just sell 500 food they gave me money for that and now I can buy more consumer goods for instance it's basically just a marketing balancing technique and you can play around with this as you want you can also sell materials but we'll go into that in a different video as it's a little bit more advanced so back to colonization let's click on this particular World here because the colony ship is ready to go and now we're going to give this a cool name and uh I think this would be a cool name for our new planet in Alpha Centauri let's go with that and now the colony ship is being built it will take a year uh over uh over on the earth um Shipyard which is pretty exciting so we can click this away in this entire process will now be automatic in the meantime uh our science ship has found themselves a precursor we found the voltum star assembly now basically this is a longer event chain where basically we can find stuff all over space regarding this particular precursor Empire and if we hit a certain threshold we can find their lost home world and see what sort of resources they had and exploit that and maybe also get something special down the line but just in time as we discard ourselves a council agenda now Council agenda it's you if you guys remember these uh counselors from earlier uh the council agenda was at the bottom of the screen and as you may have noticed I did not talk about it at all another Council agenda is basically additional abilities or additional modifiers that your counselors can give to your Empire in this particular case infinite opportunities will give our citizens uh additional happiness four percent as uh when they're building this up and ten percent uh when it gets triggered so if I press this button right now I will get a 10 bonus on my pops happiness is always good because happy pops are working pops which is exactly what we want but we can set a new agenda just by clicking on this once again we have a few options here based on our ethics ethics is something that we can go into in the how to build an Empire video but in the meantime though we can basically say hey I would like to have more Unity a month I would like to have more trade value or I would like to have faction approval you don't need to worry about faction approval we can go into evolving Society for now and just get more Unity so we can get more Traditions even quicker what's up and From This Moment onwards we can basically do what we want a science ship is just still floating around trying to find new things and it looks like we've just found another place that we can claim which is exactly what we're going to do now do keep an eye on what systems you claim uh the systems with higher modifiers are usually the better ones this system for instance if we would build a mining station on this again it would take us 50 years to claim it which is quite a lot of time it looks like our uh our sign our Colony ship is just about to roll off the factory floor and there they go and in the meantime we can also do another tradition so we're just going to go ahead and uh get this leader pool upgrade which is really nice because we do need more leaders to keep our Empire busy and in the meantime all of our science ships are just doing their thing it looks like this place has been claimed which is nice we're gonna go ahead and just build more star bases and see whether or not we can find more stuff in the meantime we're also going to ignore these uh anomalies and just find stuff around that as fast as possible and it looks like our first colony is just underway yeah so Colony ship has arrived which is great for us and we'll just pause the game as you click on the planet we will see that the planet is being colonized it will be completed by 2206 which ironically will also be the end date for this particular video but that's still two years of game time oh wait but yeah like I said a great mineral World here a lot of mineral districts for us to to use once again I only build one of them plus a reasonable planetary features as well which is rather nice we're going to go ahead and ignore this thing because it's not all that important for us also our scientists are not high enough level for a lot of these events and just in time we got our first science done as well let's get some new research going shall we've got a lot of good options we got some miners on our planets which means that we can get some good minerals I do like that uh on the society side we have some pop growth speed modifiers which we would always want it's usually a good idea to go for some of the cheap ones if there's uh if there's something that you don't like or if the listen General is not all that great just go for all the cheap stuff but for now pop growth is amazing we always want more pop growth and our we have another tradition available so let's get Faith in science just to get things all rolling we just have one more tradition available until we get something special so that's pretty cool oh what's this another Continental world you say that we have just discovered uh there is serious three a size 23 World which means it's very big we could put a lot of districts on it the more the the more the bigger a planet is the more districts we can place on it which is what we need so we're just going to go ahead and beeline it for that particular world and let's hope that we have enough influence to actually claim that system in the meantime we will get these random events every once in a while uh this is the habitable World survey always do it uh it's just free it will just run by itself it is rather nice let's take a quick look at our Homeworld we still have available jobs here which is nice you see this little icon here it means that there's blockers on the planet which means which we can remove we're going to ignore those for now because they're not all that important and we have some more science as well we're gonna use the um survey speed bonus here because we want to know what is around us as well as getting the ability to claim the system very very soon hopefully we can get that we can go a little bit faster here by clicking on the shipyard and just build the colony ship outright and then once the colony ship is done just send it over to this world as soon as it is claimed or at least this system that basically bypasses the whole needs to go to series three then hit the colonize button and then build this uh the spaceship in the shipyard now the uh the the ship the station will have already have built these uh The Colony ship which would be very useful let's go and claim the system we have enough influence which is great we found ourselves another planet another Alpine world and another Gaia world over here it's called prophets Retreat it's got a bunch of shiny stuff on it if a planet looks like this ignore it I know it's a Gaia world I know it's a perfect Planet but if it has the world profit in it it's probably not a good idea to claim it um feel free to do so if you really insist but I would not uh you know suggest it in any way shape or form uh we got a lot of tradition available so we're gonna go and get ahead and get this last one and as you can see we now have unlocked an Ascension perk Ascension perk is basically a additional bonus that we can get for filling out an entire tradition we click on it and we have an entire list of cool things that we can get for our Empire usually it's quite good to go for a technological ascendancy or One Vision or executive Vigor even transcended learning is quite good these days in this particular case just go for technological ascendancy it is white nice we'll click this away and we will be able to select our next uh tradition tree soon but on that bombshell it looks like we have just managed to colonize our first planet this particular world has now been colonized a colonization process has finished and as you can see we have a singular pop living on this planet they are in fact a colonist and they are ready to Beaver away on this world which is going to be a mining World very exciting a singular District being built here ready for workers to arrive and on that bombshell finishes the first six years of gameplay within Stellaris we've colonized our very first world and there is so much stuff still to do I haven't even gone over this side of the screen I haven't even gone into a whole bunch of stuff over here or what does Naval capacity mean how many stations can be built what can leaders do oh my God there is so much stuff to go over and I can totally understand that you are completely overwhelmed by all the options and because of that I would recommend for you to subscribe to the channel and to follow this particular series of videos so we can learn more about Stellaris as we go through all the systems and slowly but steadily introduce more and more of the game to you now next time we're gonna go over the colonization process as well as more planetary management maybe we'll even make first Contact who
