much okay this is the walk to my Lodge I thought I was staying in like rooms but I'm actually in a lodge I got my own little house just that's my house there and uh they've been told I've been told to be careful of monkeys of elephants so we are already in nature here this is like the true Sri Lanka and I love it like uh weather's come out today can't complain plane let's go and check out the room this is my little Lodge let's check out the room here at the cinnamon Lodge we have a nice spacious King room we got work area over here and just like chill I've just chucked my stuff down got like really nice Colonial design I love these pillars and of course huge bed that's like elevated up we got like a work area over here we got the TV another work area over here like really nice and like obviously got the got the blinds closed cuz it's kind of hot right now but you get a lot of light in here and then of course we've got a nice big bathroom shower bath and of course the old toilet thing I love about these places is they give you loads of different things like shower caps we got conditioners shampoos and then even like toothbrush so you got everything you need in the hotel room just to chill out but when you look outside the window you've got trees everywhere that have been planted and just nature all around you there's like monkeys running around everywhere and uh yeah it's just like so nice to be in nature beautiful weather here in Sri Lanka and uh yeah so happy to be here okay now me and my man adula are going on a little hike up to rala Monastery this is the ruins here we got like a 1hour hike up to the fifth century Buddhist Monastery where obviously Buddhism was practic on the sacred Mountain which is now protected and is a nature reserve and apparently you can find elephants leopards snakes so we to be on the lookout oh leopard there I'm joking looks like our path has been stopped by a group of wild monkeys and they aren't the friendly type what's that it's a you know the small very similar to your country cricket cricket yes oh okay yeah so these guys are just standing right there this is also the resting area for the monks they used to rest here but those guys are in our way is this a bad time to say that I don't like monkeys are they they seem to be no should you not look at them in the eyes yeah they are very scared I not like the hotel monkey oh really wow couple of them are a little bit aggressive is it male or female maybe oh he's following us maybe young male a young male he's confident uhoh oh beautiful very lucky what's that big oh wow I'm more worried about this guy oh my God they're surrounding us can we go forward yeah he's right next to us do you think I I could beat one monkey in a fight yeah how many monkeys do you think I could take five five yes six would be too much yeah I think uppercut kick one I think I got it oh no way yes so this is little potty trainer for the little baby monks they put their feet there and then that's how they pee but they there's nowh to poo they just just peeing here okay so it's a little public toilet here amazing so we've been walking around for like an hour just going up and every level you get to has a different kind of building you've got here we've got like a meeting point we've gone through hospitals school like uh meditation schools and prayer areas and it's just like literally in the middle of the forest there's monkeys everywhere and uh this is as far as we can go up yes cuz basically it's now protected it's a sacred area you have to have a permit yes okay so we're not going to go any further up maybe off camera we will no I'm joking we won't but it's beautiful and look at this the sun is out we're in nature this is what I love best what's your favorite thing about Sri Lanka uh s hon PLS this is my one of my favorite place Thea okay I amazing because of the the nature what's your like your favorite thing about Sri Lanka in general is the nature yeah nature okay what what uh what is one thing you don't like about Sri Lanka the politics yeah definitely politics I think that's everyone agrees with that Buddhism is a major religion around the world and is the biggest religion here in Sri Lanka around 70% of the population is Buddhist obviously this being a Buddhist Monastery want to talk about it um Buddhism actually came from India the Buddha was born in India and then 2,500 years ago spread his teachings around the world and now it's a huge religion basically practices meditation and the alleviation of suffering and it's a it's a lovely religion it's very peaceful religion and very simple religion and the people the monks who used to live here they lived a very simple life in nature I mean that's what life is about really and um yeah you can imagine this being a really beautiful place unfortunately it has been destroyed through nature and few a few other things but yeah it's an amazing place and uh it's nice to just walk through nature and listen to Nature they meditate around here around here yes okay nice how long would they meditate for like hours like hours yeah yeah yeah wow and they the the monks they they have no we call we call actually walking uh meditate oh really just walking meditate like this what if they fall in is this water here uh no no watering and the the monks they they never have a partner they never have never have sex never have a partner wow they are that I I got to give them respect for that I don't don't know I I I can't do they walk for hours meditating oh that's true because I I meditate but I always do it sitting but when I go for walks and stuff I kind of feel like I'm it's more I don't know my thoughts flow better yes and so maybe I've never tried to meditate whilst walking but they obviously they don't close their eyes do they yeah they they they closed eyes they close their eyes un walking on a on a Ledge yeah on ledge oh my God should I try it okay I'm going the kids they are the best at English and the and the grandparents and the parents are not very good at English it's going to be super interesting in the future when all the kids I feel like all the kids from India Sri Lanka Nepal they're getting a good education and so the future is looking good you know in the next 100 years for all these countries if they get good jobs you know it's going to be interesting to see and especially we have very sh and very scared English that day oh really yeah of course because the because the British colonizers yeah of course you're scared of us yeah I'm joking wow look at this tree beautiful these are the roots yeah the roots growing okay did you know I used to think that um or like it was a common misconception that trees fight for the sun light you know that's why they grow kind of outward sometimes but actually apparently the they work together for the light so it's like a it's it's a good lesson to learn that uh you should help others around collecting my food they were like do you want us to give you a selection of uh Hoppers and they've brought me all of these can you T me through them yes Cur leaves this is C leaves Cur leaves and pumpkin pumpkin and egg egg and spinach uh beetroot plain Hopper oh nice we have six variety flavored okay perfect like to eat this okay and then we got the different spices coconut sambal that looks very spicy and then that's like a Chutney okay okay perfect sty okay enjoy thank you so much so here we have seven different types of Hoppers obviously the most famous One the egg Hopper it's basically pancake and then they' put a filling in there which is egg this time and then I've got like six others to try I'm going to get absolutely killed in the comments for using the knife so I'm going to going to use my hands so we dip it in the Chutney it's nice not very filling and very easy to eat this one is a curry Leaf Hopper which basically means probably going to be spicy bit of coconut uh sambar not spicy I was expecting that to be super spicy but yeah that's col all flavor in it like um yeah I was expecting it to be spicy and it's not as great I didn't even know pumpkin was popular in Sri Lanka but it obviously is so we'll get a bit of this that is my favorite there's so much flavor in there obviously tastes a pumpkin kind of sweet the middle is soft and then the edge is super crunchy now we got another egg popper this time it's fried egg so probably different texture oh look at that bit of coconut the beauty of it you can kind of customize it yourself b a coconut b a coconut sambal and then go for it I've got loads of stuff from the from the buffet but I don't think I need it like honestly I could just eat egg Hoppers all day okay we got spinach definitely not my favorite out of all of them I think pumpkin is number one but it's nice and last but not least we have the beetro hopper which is very purple and colorful it's actually nice not my favorite still the pumpkin takes number one spot so I'm going to finish this one off and then obviously the egg on such a good breakfast amazing views peaceful and youve got a selection of any foods you want in the world so like just feeling super spoiled so I just went for a little walk around the area and it's just absolutely tranquil and beautiful we've got like literally a Nature Park over here apparently they've like built 1,300 trees here and obviously there's like over a 100 different species of birds and other animals here so like it's just literally a nature Lover's Dream I am a nature lover so this is like absolute dream for me and of course not only do you have the beautiful nature you have absolute luxury with the pool the facilities and The Lodges did someone say cannonball into the pool time yes please wow it's super deep here this is like the deepest pool I've ever been in well I love it okay I was just coming back to my room and my man fun was cleaning the room and then we just had a nice chat like 5 10 minutes about the cricket about Sri Lanka he loves England you love England yeah I like my friend you know Harry Harry is nice room boy I've been the now start you've been for 18 okay noway we can see more than 50 60 yeah but uh some season we can see more than 250 elepant in one Gathering still I mean 60 is a lot yeah 60 is lot and in terms of like the danger yes do the do the elephants get angry yes they angry really when they especially the female elephant they are very angry because of the babies ah do they have babies right now yes sir oh okay we can see all around leard okay I like I prefer elephants to be honest so I'm glad I've seen leopards and bears I want the elephants I want the Alia so we've been driving around for maybe 20 minutes seen lots of monkeys and stuff but we have just spotted the first elephants and there's a lot of them how many would you say sorry how many would you say there are maybe more than 30 wow yeah it's amazing to just see them eating especially female elephants living as a group you can see how they collecting the grass taking the kicking the grass so only 5 to 7% have tusks tus and because like they are chopped off or you mean like they're born with no Tusk sometime born with no Tusk but people coaching main reason Al they don't kill them they just take the tusks off uh it's a genetic trouble actually main problem is genetic trouble and another reason is people they are coaching coaching okay so uh you saying um after a few years the the male elephants separate yes uh male elephants they living separate after 12 years because they don't like to make with their blood relations okay so they're not incest yeah what about their cousins cousins are Liv in they can they can marry the cousin uh no I'm joking so we have a rare sighting of a of a Tusk male which is very very rare to see F like I said earlier five to s% of them but he's hiding behind this tree he's hiding right there he won't show us his tusks cuz he probably thinks we're going to hunt him down oh he's getting the big camera out you know it's the rare sighting when he gets the camera out I thought he was going to take some photos of me how how rare is that c yeah they very rare super rare in Sri Lanka it's not like India South India you can see lots of them taskers but here you can see fight we got to make sure there's no Hunters around yeah I'll go and fight them if they try and take his tusks the lucky one with the Tusk is very attractive to the female so your boy over there is like the stud of the group he's the most popular you can see how close they are now literally like all the way surrounding the car it's pretty amazing to see I I've been on many safaris but like it's so amazing to see them up close like wild it's just like uh it's amazing how is the tourism in Sri Lanka now after the pandemic and the and the um economic crisis after the pandemic getting better how was it during the pandemic oh really big trouble here they're just slowly getting closer and closer to the cars just eating and eating we got the one guy over here who's just chilling on his own and apparently they the males like to go off on their surrounding them whilst they were having sex and that's because the are they female that check it yes the females come and check to see whether it was successful or not so my guy could have just been shooting blanks or just like not been doing it very successfully and so they're checking for him so it takes a couple of days for them to to successfully uh impregnate them super interesting I was wondering why they were all following them I thought maybe they just wanted to watch we've been given a letter by the hotel it says Harry we would like you to leave the premises right now because you're being a horrible person I'm joking didn't say that it said I've been invited to dinner wow amazing hopefully they invite a lovely shanken lady as well for me anyway it's going to be an authentic shanken dining experience and they've given me a gift which I have to wear apparently it's like Christmas oh here we go they said it's a traditional Al oh is this a song oh hello how do I never stop burning oh really so when we go slow we do like this nice amazing and we have arrived at the Salama which is basically a Sri Lankan meeting spot for people who are out of the city or moving places and they come and have a community and this is where you can eat oh awesome we got cow dong floor and then the roof bit of what's the uh the coconut leaves coconut leaves it nicely and let it dry and then we going to cover it up okay awesome and then we got a traditional fire out there where we cook the meat and then finally it's a little bit modern kitchen but then we've got the traditional style cooking over here is that made of clay or also made out of coconut this is also cow dung cow yes yeah look at this so it's all uh traditional style wood fired and then of course we have a little bit of mod you got to have a little bit of modern these days can't do everything the traditional way but the 90% of this is traditional and this is like definitely the most authentic meal or shanken meal I'm going to have on this trip for sure oh we got some got a little bread garlic bread oh and this very thin okay perfect okay Shri Lankans love like uh they love the bakery like the bread from all like traditional yeah okay perfect start off with this garlic bread cuz it looks delicious oh wow is that an elephant yeah no way wow going to go for the garlic first I'm so hungry honestly I could probably eat this whole plate of bread but I definitely shouldn't because then I'll lose my appetite just like the bread we have at home very delicious just starting off slow getting ready for the main event also oh you can don't know if you can hear that but you can hear the elephants in the background also I love the um thin bread so crunchy okay here we go I've got myself a little bit of everything here we have an absolute feast and the Shri Lankan way going to be using my hands I know I probably got a lot of comments saying why are you not using your hands so guys I'm using my hands and I'm going to go for it first we got to try this fish I've been eyeing up the fish all night look at that fresh and battered oh wow reminds me just of the fish at home in in the UK is battered fish they call it fried fish but we would call it battered okay next up drumstick I'm used to having uh it's a skin okay don't eat the skin okay remove the okay I was iidd can eat I was about to eat the eat the skin so this is a drumstick I've never had a drumstick in my life right you eat this yeah yeah okay oh okay it's like peas yes okay okay so these drumsticks are locally made and they are good very good for your health if you have if you have diabetes and stuff the local doctors actually they uh provide this and you just split it up a bit like a bean and eat the beans okay there we go now I'm going to do what I should be doing and mix some of these together so we're going to get a bit of the cashew a bit of the rice and a bit of the D and then eat it like that oh my god when you mix it together it's just like an infusion of flavors it's actually not spicy at all um it's just like sweet and savory like really really delicious like the nuts the fish and my favorite the doll and apparently if you use your hand you get more flavor than if you use a KNE and Fork I'm not sure how true that is but I've been told that for sure this is the most authentic uh Shri Lankan meal I've had I can imagine people eating this uh at home every night with their family and you know this is just like the highest quality of food you can get okay yeah last but not least we have the desserts yeah this is jagari p it's called what laang okay it's water LA with nuts okay it's made with Jager Jager yes you know speci this is common it's Kebab it's for good for decoration okay yeah nice this is sago Sago pudding it's made with uh coconut milk okay okay uh and this cinnamon ice cream oh nice told deep fried coconut pancake deep fried coconut pancake oh my God okay wow this is insane thank you so much I'm going to go for left to right jaggery it's got some nuts on top oh oh my God it kind of tastes like a Creme Brule if I had to say any s similarities but it's just like a right so we are starting the the Sri Lankan dishes tonight and we've got an absolute Feast on our hands this is all Sri Lankan food which I absolutely love and you can see you can tell is shanka because of all these different spices and herbs and you even got cinnamon which is obviously Shan's favorite export and then so we're basically having a prawn dish and a mutton dish and then obviously these are like the condiments that will go with it and also D which is my favorite from South Asia look at all these different spices okay we got the man who's going to show us how to make which one you going for first we'll make dal Curry Dal Curry I have already D Curry and mutton yeah prawns y tempered potatoes and beans and Chang coconut s oh nice okay perfect spicy are you okay spicy spicy is good yeah I'm Shri Lankan I'm going to regret saying that you from sir I'm from England first time uh second time second yeah yeah yeah it was so good I had to come back now I start Tre car one time oh wow you're doing three Curries at the same time yes wow okay well you guys had it here he's going to do three at the same time spice I'm getting the spell wo my nose is on fire maybe you put too much curry leaves in there um pepper pepper pepper frush pepper the garlic oh we love the garlic it's amazing like how they do the portion sizes he just knows instinctively exactly how much to put in I'd be clueless I'd be looking at the uh [Music] instruction M woo I can smell the cinnamon in there as well that's amazing so we got a dark Curry a light Curry and then a vegetable curry this one's milk coconut oh nice oh nice so lots of uh local ingredients being used here lots of coconuts lots of cinnamon and of course the curry powders oh my God that is so good I mean got a little bit of a kick to it but that amazing out of I've been to India Pakistan Bangladesh Sri Lanka for me spiciest out of all of those countries uhhuh it's the spiciest yeah so congratulations Sri Lanka you won the you won the medal for the most spiciest food enough for you oh yeah sure so much food we're plating into these lovely clay pots like the traditional style this is like the most authentic shanken thing I've done on this trip so I'm very happy about this so now we have all the dish is plated in these lovely clay pots including obviously rice two different types of Rices as well and some also some Sri Lankan uh authentic bread basically so yeah this is like nice little Buffet all uh Al laid out perfectly and I'm just ready to dig in now I'm spoiled for choice but I'm going to take a little bit of everything I reckon you think that's a good idea little bit of everything yes perfect okay here we go we have 1 2 3 4 5 5 6 78 nine different dishes the best thing to do is to mix it all together you got to get creative so I'm going to go for like four different types here we got Dal we got mutton oh yeah that was a good decision definitely a good idea to mix it all together and for everyone wondering that is the spicy bit right there the um coconut sandbell catches You by surprise so just be careful if you're coming to shanka but it's it is really good I'm not you know I wouldn't say it's bad but it just it really kicks you last but not least the prawn overlooking the elephants what a start oh my God oh my God okay everything's eatable okay can I eat this yeah no no I'm joking okay uh uh you eat that this take it flavor okay sure I got to guess the flavor so I can eat the spoon as well yeah oh it's very uh very thin and brittle oh this is going to be hot avocado avocado oh really I'm not very good at guessing that's delicious and we got to try a little bit with the spoon there we go eating the whole dessert that is recycl if you want you can eat the whole thing I will yeah like this yes let go here oh yeah oh there's chocolate there as well oh wow making a video about like um tourism in Sri Lanka and how like the economic crisis was affected um Sri Lanka so like could you tell me a bit more about like what what happened to Sri Lanka during the pandemic and during the economic crisis and is it getting better do you think uh after the pandemic it was not the best time for us but yes it's slightly picking up and now uh like I said the month of August went really well okay and looking forward and our initial market like when the European market picked up yes so that's what actually we are looking for okay so the would you say that the answer to potentially Sri Lanka's problems is tourism initially uh earlier um yes tourism has done um for Sri Lankan economy a lot because you know when it comes to Sri Lanka uh the tourism is based on you know they are doing a lot of they're bringing a lot of for an investment yeah so uh pandemic yes it's really hit for the Sri Lankan economy tourism industry when tourism industry dropped yeah yes it hit really badly but then from I would say the last year September somewhere in Jun start picking up and uh month of December like November December JN so that's the month actually we are looking forward now oh awesome there we go so there is uh light at the end of the tunnel so to speak and look at this guys the hotel treatment here has probably been without a doubt the best treatment I've ever had in terms of hospitality in terms of just like the attention to detail that they have had and also like I've never had a hotel experience where I've actually made proper friendships with the staff whether it's the hotel cleaner the front of Staff the food and beverage manager the chefs the head chefs like they've all been like they you know like there's a certain level of minimum like talk and stuff that they would do in any hotel like Hi how are you but these guys they go above and beyond so shout out to them shout out to the management of cinamon for like training these guys and you know just promoting this uh commun level of communication and like the kindness and Hospitality I think it's just embedded in the Sri Lankan nature but like so so nice um so yeah going to end the video thank you very much for watching and I'll see you in the next one
