Is this worth watching

On the one hand, it is a unique thing to stay in a nuclear bunker. It’s quirky and it’s something most people haven’t done. I definitely enjoyed the video, mainly for the diagrams of the nuclear bunker and that exit was really cool.

On the other hand, I really hope that this wasn’t it for Arkansas. Seeing a nuclear bunker (that could be anywhere in the US) and Toad Suck Park doesn’t do that state justice. I feel like finding some iconic Arkansas things should be do-able and would make a great 15 minute video.

I really enjoyed the videos they used to do about unique accomodations, like the one they (dangerously 🥺) hiked over a glacier to, or those floating pods. I really thought it was something they'd pivot into after they finished 100 countries. But I can't get into their recent accomodation/airbnb videos. I'm not sure what's different, but I really don't enjoy these videos they put out lately and I'm not sure why

I fell asleep in the middle of it.

I came to this sub just to see if other people felt the same typea way that I have about their last few vids- glad I'm not the only one! K+N have always been a little naive/culturally insensitive, but I did feel like as they got closer to the 100 countries goal they were getting better and more educated. Now their content is just ridiculous. If you're going to make videos about airbnbs for every state you go to instead of a legit exploration of the state, why not just make a series about the coolest airbnb you could find in all 50 states??? I'd love to watch that if it was framed and executed that way, but the way they're doing it is more like "well we don't care about your stupid state and are passing time until we can leave the country so here's another place we're choosing to sleep instead of the very expensive converted van we bought"

Does Nate ever cook? Coffee doesn't count.

I love shows like House Hunters and the like, so I really enjoy their “unique accommodations” videos. GT(sp?) is such a cool guy and has a wild eye for design. I’m sure that place isn’t cheap, but for good reason. I want to go!!

i am standing inside of a nuclear missile bunker that was built during the cold war and has since been converted into an airbnb oh gosh in this video we'll introduce you to the guy who spent 10 years renovating this place give you a full tour and show you what it's like to sleep 50 feet below ground and a bunker that was built to withstand a nuclear bomb we're karen nate after spending four years traveling the world full-time and documenting our journey to 100 countries 2020 brought us back to the u.s where we bought a converted sprinter van to explore our own backyard our new goal is to use our tiny home on wheels to visit all 50 states yesterday we left our hometown of nashville tennessee and drove six hours to our 21st state of arkansas where last night we camped in a park named i kid you not toad suck park according to the internet the way this place got its name is that this used to be the location of a tavern where river men would and i quote suck on the bottle until they swelled up like toads this morning we are heading down the road to what has to be the most unique airbnb in the entire state after we booked the titan ii missile complex we learned that gt the guy who owns the place has his own youtube channel and has documented the process of turning a flooded missile silo into a livable space last night we went deep down the youtube rabbit hole and seeing where this place was when he bought it compared to what he's turned it into today and all the work that's gone into it i already have so much more appreciation for this place nailed [Music] use it right all right we just arrived at titan ranch it uh doesn't look like much from above but i think that's the whole point we started in 2010 he was completely buried so it's one of those projects that if you think really far ahead you'll never do you would never know that we were standing over a missile bunker right now that's why i bought this place there was nothing here it's just cattle is the missile in there it is not i tell people i have the largest gun in the us i just can't find any ammo for it yeah should we uh yeah we go down yeah that works for me all right well it's all tradition here to let guests open the front door yeah i'll walk into a 60 year old military bunker oh it's so heavy six thousand pounds one handed this is crazy yeah before we go in the bunker let me give you a quick history lesson that will hopefully help you appreciate this place a little more during the cold war there were 54 of these titan ii underground missile silos built around the united states each silo housed a 9 megaton titan ii nuclear warhead that was capable of being deployed from its underground hiding place in less than 58 seconds the largest and the most powerful ballistic missile in our arsenal and could reach a target up to 6 000 miles away these missiles were meant to be used for retaliation so they would only be fired if the us was bombed first which meant that these bunkers were built to withstand a nuclear bomb and still be operational thankfully none of these missiles were ever fired and in the 1980s these bunkers were decommissioned and eventually made their way into the hands of private citizens which is how this one ended up being a vacation rental on airbnb [Applause] wow gt has got to be one of the most interesting people we have ever met you just have to be the perfect combination of driven passionate and crazy to bring a project like this to life stand right in the middle and you will find a place that when you talk it'll all come back on your ears but it's like a four inch space [Music] it's me this is crazy do you hear what i'm hearing no we are you serious now we're gonna head back downstairs i'm gonna give you the official tour this is the main entrance and behind this original 6 000 pound door which i opened with my own two hands you officially enter the bunker or you have to go right or left to the right is the silo that held the nuclear missile which is the reason this whole place is here but now it's just this tunnel that leads to nothing and that's because back in the 80s we made this deal with russia that we would destroy these nuclear bunkers so they took the missile out and the whole silo was filled with water and cement but to the left this is the grand entrance to the launch control center it kind of feels like you're entering a spaceship and this entire three level side is what gt has converted into an airbnb now this room was the control center are these the original floors are super cool they are there was carpet on here it was actually installed later for sound deadening because all the machines running were really loud in here people that worked here complete hearing loss but now it's just a lounge area apparently they've done some corporate training in here so if you want your business to take over the world this is the perfect place to come plan that and if you have multiple people staying here there are two extra beds as well but the coolest part of this whole place is that we're suspended underground right now the floor that i'm standing on right now is not connected to the wall we're just hanging and that's because if there was an earthquake or if a bomb goes off this whole place would just shake instead of break it didn't move so now we're going down this spiral staircase to level one which is opposite of above ground where the numbers count up near below ground they count down during the cold war this place was manned 24 7. so there was probably some kind of kitchen down here but i highly doubt it was as nice as the one gt built [Music] keep in mind we are 50 feet underground right now and we have a sink dishwasher microwave tons of storage full freezer everything we would need to cook a meal stove top oven coffee maker and probably the most well-stocked fridge we've ever had in an airbnb oh my goodness don't mind if i do the second half of level one has been converted into a theater complete with every form of entertainment that you can think of and if i had to guess we're gonna spend way too much time lying on these couches tonight watching movies because what else are we supposed to do underground but before we head up to level three there's one more thing we want to show you down here this is the original exit hatch it is a tunnel that goes 10 feet to a ladder that takes you to the surface gt said he lets his adventurous guests actually use this as an exit in the morning so in about 12 hours we will be climbing 50 feet of a ladder to get back to the surface that sound is so creepy it is currently 63 and a half degrees there is no heat or air conditioning only dehumidifiers feels nice all right up to level three real quick we want to say a big thank you to surf shark for sponsoring this video and keeping our online identity safe no matter where we are in the world with the best vpn on the internet if you don't know what a vpn is it stands for virtual private network and it encrypts all the information sent between our computer and the internet so that no one can steal our personal data even when we're 50 feet underground in a nuclear missile bunker using wi-fi we're protected with surf shark but a vpn can be used for more than just security it can also be used to unlock content that isn't available in your area it's super easy to change the virtual location of your computer to get access to a new content library top of the morning if you don't already have vpn we highly recommend surfshark we've been using it for over a year and we still love it plus it's the only vpn to offer one account for unlimited devices to get started just use our code cara nate to get 83 off plus three extra months for free and there's a 30 day free trial so there's no risk to try it out just click the link in the description below there's no elevators the bedroom is definitely the prettiest room of all not only is it designed and decorated beautifully but it's also the top of the control center so we have this big beautiful white ceiling that feels like we're sleeping in an igloo and the room is a perfect circle so we'll start over here there's nothing stopping you from falling down two five stairs we have another coffee pot so we don't have to go down two flights of stairs in the morning we have a fridge and there are actually no light switches in this whole place instead i can actually control all the lights in the entire place from right here so that's super handy now i love the bed because it's built straight into the wall so it doesn't have any legs and it just kind of looks like it's floating let me see how sturdy it is did it move not at all that's very comfy he's pretty much done the same design with the nightstands and bathroom counter it just has this sleek futuristic look and the mirrors even have touchscreen that changes the color of these lights now behind the vanity is the toilet which at first glance just looks like a regular old toilet which it is but he has installed a bidet what makes even better is the seat is heated for some reason that just makes me so excited now over here we have a big beautiful tub and probably one of the prettiest showers i've ever seen it has not one not two not three but four shower heads you can choose to just have a plain waterfall shower or a full on pressure wash from all angles when nate first told me he was booking this place i really thought we were gonna be reffing it but this is so nice it's like the perfect combination of luxury and adventure all right so we've just made our way back up to the surface right before sunset because gt has invited us to do something that neither one of us have ever done before the basic idea of throwing an axe you want it to go vertical don't go behind the target okay yeah go for it all right yeah any tips hit the bull's eye new tip don't cut your leg off oh it got in the target oh it was so sideways i think i got lucky on my first one oh that was a breakthrough all i had to do was turn the camera off ah knock my other one off again heading back underground for the rest of the night that hurt my eardrums [Music] all right time to make some dinner [Music] dinner is served i've never made anything like this before kind of like an asian pokeball we're about to have dinner and a movie is amazing we actually haven't started movie night yet we're just catching up on our friends whoa [Music] gt recommended that we watched that movie earlier today and if you want to really understand what was going on in these missile complexes about 60 years ago command and control is a great movie when you travel to a place it just brings history to life it makes it so much more interesting at least it did for one of us it was a great four years [Music] hmm morning you could sleep forever down [Music] here the weird thing about sleeping underground with no windows is that this room looks exactly the same at 7am as it did last night at midnight it makes it very hard to wake up wow [Music] it is officially time to head back up to the surface whoa that's heavy good morning you sound like you're just right there i have so much more appreciation for this emergency door after watching that movie last night all right we're coming up oh this is tight here we go oh man this tunnel is about 10 feet horizontally and then we're about to climb 50 feet straight up a ladder whoa this actually looks a little dangerous uh it definitely could be you imagine doing this in an actual emergency how you feeling i'm really just trying to not think about what i'm doing right now you're only about a fifth of the way oh man just don't look down yeah that's so cool my arms are seriously tired wow i can't help but look down just don't let go now you keep climbing up oh good work we did it fresh air sunshine oh that was crazy that was the best exit from an airbnb i've ever had in my life literally 50 feet straight out to the bottom it's just cool knowing that we are one of probably only a handful of people that have ever climbed up one of those escape patches so here is a secret room i had to find a place for a bathroom without just one thing i was like what could be in the secret room where last night we camped at a park this is arkansas trucks let's see if we can make four stick at once [Applause] almost three out of four they just told me it really gets out of zero like this don't hate what you can't imitate [Music]
