all of you give us a shout out from where you're from i know we do this every week but man i'd like to honor where you guys are calling from many of you are still in the early hours of your morning or shot a wedding i'm a wedding photographer it was an awesome wedding it was so much fun and also thursday something thursday at 9 00 p.m something really exciting happened bethel music released their homecoming album okay i wanted to do a giveaway we're going to figure it out because one of these times we're doing a giveaway because i love to give stuff away but there are on bethelmusic.com lots of fun merch hats stickers too good to not believe shirts i mean you need one get on bethelmusic.com and get some new merch and get the homecoming album i think i've literally played the homecoming song the title track of the album probably a hundred times i mean i just continually played every chance i get to go in the car this week i've been making sure i purpose and play worship and this has been one of the albums at least one of the songs that i've been just on repeat so i'm very thankful what's coming out of this house and guess what paul and hannah mcclure and david funk are leading today and so i hope they maybe i belong to jesus do you think they'll play that one i think they'll probably because you said they'll definitely do it okay okay online tell me if you've listened to i will say thank you for so much for posting that because that is absolutely awesome sikari's got weather she likes that song i love it i love it homecoming yes it's so good right isn't it prodigals are coming home i think it's so incredible just the prophetic declaration of this album and everything that it is just it all the meaning that it has behind i love the idea of homecoming because in a sense the word home has such a it resonates so much before us as a house here in redding and also for you guys online i want to say if you didn't check into last week last week's message with chris valton was outstanding it was it was it was not just a mess it was really a taste of the leadership structure what's happening here at bethel but most of it felt like i immediately felt like oh this is my house this is my home and i want to say for you guys online it's like this what we experienced in the room today and in these sermons and in this community it's much for you guys as well i'm telling you you guys are just as much a big part of the the family here at bethel and it just wouldn't be the same without hosting you every sunday morning so i want to say thank you for coming again powerful about two different stories of the bible i know it's going to touch your life today yes it is and we're excited enjoy sit back oh get off off your seats worship it's going to be amazing is there anyone right now that needs prayer i just want to just go into that straight away we still got a minute and 20 seconds left come on if there's anyone i feel something tingling down my left side oh sorry yeah my left side of my shoulder so if that's you i declare in the name of jesus that your shoulder be healed i just heard like um there's a there's a woman who's had pain on her right neck and it's been throbbing and it's it has to do with stress but i feel like god's relieving that today so in the name of jesus we just declare complete healing and anyone else who needs healing we have online pastors who are pastoring this room we have people pastoring this room and if that's you i just want you to say i need healing in a certain area and we're going to stand in the gap for you today and i believe allergies are going to be healed in jesus name this morning i had a little allergy thing and i'm like oh no this can't be happening and i was like no no more allergies in the name of jesus we're excited we're going to pray for you right now i just believe that today is a day of vindication chris v said in our early morning prayer at seven o'clock this morning he said this would be a day of vindication so god i just pray for our community online i thank you god for what you're doing on the screen i thank you for what you're doing in the chat room on youtube god i thank you right now that pain in your right shoulder is being healed and i pray that today as chris said this morning it's a day of vindication god bless you guys amen we'll see you there a little bit out there you are so happy your friends are concerned that's kind of my goal my goal is to make everybody around me nervous with my my happiness hey um just a real quick update just to let you know my benny is doing so well she's improving so well and as you yeah amen and thank you for for praying she's just getting stronger and stronger i thought instead of reading scripture i would i would let you know how we start our day many many days of the week and and we we start with something like this the mercies of the lord are new every morning i'll just say that with me the mercies of the lord are new every morning and we declare this is the day that the lord has made say that with me this is the day that the lord let us rejoice and be glad in it say that let us rejoice and be glad in other words because he designed the day he perfectly orchestrated this day for our blessing our increase advancement and his glory he designed it for that then it says he sent his word and healed him i don't know if you've heard the phrase uh uh skating toward the puck um which is that wayne gretzky uh came up with this right uh hockey player which i i'm not a hockey fan but i like the phrase that you skate to where it's going to be and what we do is we anticipate god has already sent his word ahead of us in our day and he has a word perfectly prepared for whatever we will be facing he sent his word and healed us say that with us he sent his word and healed me i'm sorry he sent his word i changed it it healed me now how about we try it together let's do it the way i changed it midstream it's not fair but i've got the mic so just cooperate he sent his word and healed me close your eyes and make the declaration of your life he sent his word and healed me he's not stingy he doesn't withhold he doesn't dangle and tease us and then take it away he's a perfect father who loves to reward loves to bless celebrates every one of his children you're surrounded by absolute heroes of the faith and it's such a privilege for us to be together today we're going to enjoy a time in worship we've got a great word today you know what it's already been predetermined this is a blessed day so you can whatever you got going in your life just bring it to him and offer it in worship and let's watch what jesus does you got great people around you i think it'd be great if you just turn around and meet see his worth it doesn't feel hard to give at all when we see his worth we've been singing the nature of god this morning we've been singing his nature and something that we were praying into earlier as a team is the faithfulness of god philippians 1 6 says that i am confident of this that he who began a good work is faithful to complete it how many you need to see the faithfulness of god in your life this morning you need eyes to see his faithfulness god himself is full of faith for your life like it's not us reaching for faith it's receiving the faith that he has towards you towards me it's his face it's his face so right now if you're up against a circumstance if you need prayer for eyes of faith to see his faithfulness like we were singing earlier maybe it's a season of fear you've been walking through maybe you need to see him as the shepherd you need to see his faithfulness in a prodigal coming home this is a season of prodigals coming home this is a turn around season one of our pastors prophesied this morning you need a turn around because of his faithfulness raise your hand we want to pray in faith there is an absolute deposit of faith in the room this morning to receive his faithfulness look at all the hands now church you know what to do reach out your hands if you feel comfortable you can touch them on the shoulder and just begin to release the faithfulness of god he who began a good work he will complete it he will complete it the faithfulness of god maybe you're in a season of irrational fear that the faithfulness of god would break through as your shepherd that the faithfulness of god would break through go ahead church lift your voices pray for those around you just release that release eyes of faith eyes of faith to see his faithfulness [Music] yes i actually feel like we're supposed to praise before the breakthrough you ready so i want you guys to actually begin to praise over these people and when you begin to lift up a shout of praise and when you begin to lift up a clap maybe somebody just need to clap over them like the victory of christ is already won the victory of christ has already been made available the victory of the turnaround is already happening just like we saw with the fires [Music] worthy worthy faithful and true faith true yes god [Music] lori thank you you are faithful and true amen that is literally his name he is faithful and true so right now i just declare that he who began a good work in you [Music] he is faithful to complete it if you receive that just say i receive that that is the word of right hey uh we have uh we're so thankful uh the the lord um as you're standing we're about to take offering but you know we had a fire very close in town and about 40 homes that we know of at this point have been lost again it looked much it looked much scarier for part of the day and so i want to take a moment just to honor the lord we i love being part of the global church we partner with the lord we ask for his intervention and we were driving up the hill and some of our you in the body of christ who were at the prayer house you were out of the prayer house and you were just declaring making declarations of that fire and you spurred us on so our leadership team we rolled out on the staircase out here and we spent 15 minutes talking about fire talking to the lord about the fire but also the fire and i just we just want to celebrate the lord if you're with us online it was it was scary breezy thursday morning we had folks all our alarms were going off on our phones how many of you had your phones going off crazy like crazy yeah and uh yet we saw you know the the winds stop and it was not what the uh forecast was expecting and this has been one of the quietest windless three and a half or four days i've ever seen in redding you know at this time in the fall and so it feels like a direct intervention of the lord on behalf of our city and so let's give the lord honor and praise absolutely we love you king jesus we love you absolutely the lord intervenes in nature all those songs we sang about resurrection that's an intervention in nature that the dead was were raised that christ was raised alive we serve a good god we do have folks who again the lord is going to have to meet them in this crisis and he will he will he will give beauty for ashes to their brothers and sisters to our fellow citizens who've lost their homes so let's give the lord praise and i'm going to pray a prayer of thanksgiving god we are super grateful every good gift comes from you and we realize that you are ready and able to act on our behalf and you respond to our prayers the prayers of your people we celebrate the rescue and deliverance we receive this week it is a memory stone just like the prayer house is a memory of your generosity in a time of lack we can think about this time and go the lord rescued us in a grave moment the winds were stilled just like when jesus said peace be still we spoke in prayer and you stilled the winds you quieted them we thank you for this intervention that's so obvious so beautiful so tangible king jesus and now we take our finances that you've already blessed us with as well we have so much because you've given us so much to begin with and every good gift comes from you we're deeply grateful deeply grateful now we give with faith knowing you will take this money and multiply the the righteousness justice and joy of the kingdom in the world in the name of king jesus amen amen bless you guys well the offering is going to be passed out to you and it's my privilege to introduce to you our speaker man i've known i don't know for about 20 20 years 20 23 23 years part of our first year school of ministry didn't think he'd make it had some severe critique for his homework but he has come a long way and so uh he leads our second year school of supernatural ministry and uh he's a blessing builds beautiful teams in our house so you welcome gabe valenzuela thank you thank you please sit down it's awkward dan is absolutely correct i didn't know i had such a bad homework problem and then um i was in second year school of ministry during my second year which was the first second year ever and uh we were in first year one year and dan was talking to students about their homework and he put up an example of this is what i want your homework to look like and then he put up an example of this is what i don't want it to look like and he crossed the name out of what i don't want it to look like and it was mine with my was my homework yep it hurt my heart a little bit not gonna lie but it's all right we did okay we did all right barely made it that's mostly true um well my uh if you don't know me hi everybody um my name is gabe valenzuela i helped to to lead second year school of ministry now uh the thing that i sucked at i now lead which is which is uh incredible testimony of god's goodness his faithfulness and his humor is uh i always joke this is true me and mark brooks were in the same year together we got known with first year they told mark would you like to lead first year school of ministry that's how amazing mark was uh they told me make sure you go to second year so i did that anyway my name is gabe uh gabe valenzuela because uh i say that because uh last week chris um mentioned my name i heard i got some text chris mentioned my name uh he introduced a few of the new team members for the slt which i have a great privilege of of being on and um as he introduced us uh he he called me gabe venezuela which is which is the country by the way um it's not my last name it's the country which i which we pray for and we love and um so i'm not super mad at i said i've been with chris for over 20 years and uh you know i'm not mad at chris falatin for getting my name wrong sometimes so it's okay and then we found out i was on the front row this morning uh with chris cruz in real life we had epiphany realized miracle from the lord one of those timing moments where convergence where everything comes together is that um chris is speaking tonight i'm speaking this morning and it's hispanic heritage month which yeah which to be honest i don't think means a thing but it was interesting it was interesting that that happened so we had a good joke about it it was only funny to us and and i don't know if it's funny to you and i was going to do some jokes like bill today they were all mexican jokes so we decided to refrain [Applause] used to be able to do those you can't do those anymore those are that's not so we'll we'll save those for private moments um between us bill bill asked me i'm gonna get to the message for reals but the longer i do this the better you guys get um bill asked me to share last saturday and i was um you know it's one of those moments where uh he he didn't really uh ask me i think the text was can you can you preach on sunday which there's only one answer to can i well yes i can i can so he bill did the um you know bill's not a dictator by any means but he did the godfather i'm gonna make you an offer you cannot refuse a moment so here i am preaching and it's it'll i think it'll be all right it'll be okay i preached first service i'm not gonna this is uh this one's on film so if you're watching welcome to church uh first service listen they were good it was good uh i used to i'm used to doing school i just want to be clear school they're very excited in school first service first service was a little early maybe a little bit twin view not gonna lie knocked it out of the park at twin view right i don't know if it was as much me as it was them to be honest but they were very excited so if i can create some some godly competition in the room for you there you go i'm not saying you're better than anybody don't do that today we're going to talk about how god resists the proud um no we're not um i want to talk to you are you guys good we're good okay we're flowing now all right here we go i want to talk to you a little bit today um uh about two fathers in scripture um this is the kind this is the mode i'm in really my kids are here today which uh they're often at church but there's there's four of them and they're old and doing stuff so they're at church at different times um but they all get to be here welcome welcome to church guys yeah it's good they love being talked about um the the mode i'm in is kind of in a fatherhood mode and so if i can talk to you um gosh i'm only i'm only 43. so hear my heart i'm going to talk to you today a bit as a father in this place and then a bit as a son as well so i'm 43 i think that's right i lost 41 somewhere that's a true true i was it was my birthday in a couple weeks and i was and i thought i'm gonna be i'm gonna be 42 and i was down at the stoplight i did the math nope 43. and so i don't know what happened to the year but i for reals i lost it yeah anyway so we're going to talk about we're going to talk about two fathers today and for me this is it's timely for me so i may just be preaching to myself but hopefully it encourages some of you um these two stories for me it it helps to go this is kind of where where some of you have uh been where some of you were at and then where where we're going i think is a great way to look at that um and i want to be a little bit personal today if that's if that's okay is that all right we'll get personal just us and all of those people watching on bethel tv real personal today um i was in a meeting the other day in a in an slt meeting actually and um dan was speaking it was it was a beautiful moment as we were talking about our future um of this church and dreaming together and it was a bit of a funny moment dan in his conversation bill was in the back of the room and dan said dan said uh you know our mission is the same right and then everyone in a very cartoon way turned to look at bill in the back of the room and bill said yes it's the same and we all took a big sigh because we didn't know it changed if it did but it hasn't changed it's the same mission praise the lord and so the mission is the mission is this bethel's mission is simply revival right the personal regional global expansion of god's kingdom through his manifest presence and um i said earlier if elon gets his way we're gonna have to add another word to that somewhere right intergalactic cosmic something because mars isn't available yet but when it is we're taking it just fyi so [Music] there's there's no choice we we declare mars okay never mind all right [Applause] but really but but revival is personal right that that's that's the first part it's personal it's internal it's something that has to happen for you and revival really is where just god shows up and changes everything about your life and so we're going to talk about two fathers today and and how the lord showed up for them and changed just about everything in their life and really changed their life and hopefully relate that to where we're at so we can we can take something away is that good here we go if you have your bibles which you should it's church uh turn to mark chapter five we're going to read a bit of scripture today if that's okay mark chapter 5 verse 21 when jesus had crossed over again in the boat to the other side a large crowd gathered around him and so he stayed by the synagogue one of the synagogue officials named jerius came up and upon seeing him fell at his feet and implored him earnestly saying my little daughter is at the point of death please come and lay your hand on her so that she will get well and live and he went off with him and a large crowd was following him and pressing in on him and then we know the woman with the hemorrhage of blood came and we'll skip to verse 35. while he was still speaking they came from the house of the synagogue officials saying your daughter has died why trouble the teacher anymore but jesus overhearing what was being spoken said to the synagogue official do not be afraid any longer only believe and he allowed no one to accompany him except peter james and john the brother of james and they came to the house of the synagogue official and he saw a commotion and people loudly weeping and wailing and entering in he said to them why make a commotion and weep the child has not died but is asleep they began laughing at him and putting them all out he took along the child's father and mother and his own companions and entered the room where the child was taking that child by the hand he said to her talithakum which translated means little girl i say to you get up immediately the little girl began to walk for she was 12 years old and they were completely astounded and he gave them strict orders that no one should know about this and he said something should be given to her to eat all right i'm in dad mode and typically when i read scripture um maybe it's because of my gift but if you've been around here long enough you can kind of tell how every the lens in which people read scripture through as they teach right you can when bill teaches you can see the apostolic lens as he teaches right he finds things that we've read lots of times and then we have to figure out why we didn't see that same thing he saw you know um and then chris chris has a very prophetic lenses he teaches you know he's he teaches and we go where is that i don't know where that is but um but it's but it's that's not true that's not true that's me joking with my dad who i love very very much deeply i love him but he has a real prophetic lens and that's how he sees it and it really it it really does help our house because you know even the message that he recently he recently gave about were in a metamorphosis you guys remember that right which is beautiful it put language to where we're at uh and i had the privilege of hearing that word a few times before he gave it in church and and when i when he first heard i got super excited because who doesn't want to be a butterfly you know what i'm saying like if given the choice between caterpillar or butterfly right we're like yeah i'll take butterfly and then i did a really dumb thing i went on youtube and to figure out what is the metamorphosis it sucks by the way it's horrible right you get in your little thing you were totally fine being a caterpillar eat leaves not a problem then you get a little thing and your body liquefies itself as you build a new structure right and then you emerge at it as a caterpillar and his word is very timely for a butterfly yes as a butterfly not a caterpillar if you emerge as a caterpillar go back go back try it again do it over right some of you some of some of you are like i'm on my third pass it's not working no no seriously seriously though it really does give language to where we're at and honestly in this room this is where we're at i think for him this is where we're at as a house right as a culture we're in the middle of a cocoon but also individually a lot of us are there and some of you are in the in the caterpillar stage and you're so excited about being a butterfly some of you are in your cocoon you know because it's dark right and and you're like what is happening to me well it's the it's the chrysalis or the cocoon right and some of you are butterflies and we hate you by the way we just no that's not true that's not true we love you and we celebrate god's goodness in your life as you butterfly all around us but some of you were in there um but that's a that's a real timing where when i read scripture i read it with a relational component to it everything i how i look at scripture is really relational i'm really drawn to the relational aspects of who god is and i love the the scriptures that have to do with family and connection and so this one for me means a lot because i'm in i'm in the father piece so as we look at this today if you would just dream with me a little bit you have to use your your imagination a bit how many moms and dads we have in the room moms and dads congratulations jesus loves you more than everybody else it's awesome good son just sons and daughters that should be that should be everybody else plus the people who just raised their hand okay so we're going to talk we're going to talk and we're going to approach this a few different ways we're going to approach it as the mom and dad piece and a bit of the sun and daughter piece you'll kind of see where we go um but if you can put yourself in in the spot of jerry's and the pain that he's in because often we read these scriptures and it's not well it's valuable to us and we take a lot out of it it isn't real right it's not personal to us but but bethel's mission is personal we're about personal revival and if we're not careful we pass things i took my little girl there's bella she's super beautiful and sweet and awesome and i love her and she's great and i could say lots of things and it'll get me points later um but uh for she just turned 13 a bit ago and for her 13th birthday i i take all my kids on like an adventure for their 13th birthday they get to pick something fun to do so me and bella for her 13th birthday we went bear hunting yes yes so if you're gonna if you're a 13 year old girl there's nothing better to do than shoot a bear to be fair so we're so we we went bear hunting together and we've we have yet to get a bear but the hunting continues so we're we're doing that but on the way back from bear hunting we were we were out we spent three days so driving back three late nights and two of the two of the late nights that we drove back we saw two accidents right on the side of the road one um looks like it had just happened and we saw the ambulance off in a distance as it was coming the other one um we got there the firemen were already there and you could tell they just put the car out it was on fire and um you could smell the you know burnt rubber and all of those things and it was a jeep and the jeep was smashed in and like any you know person especially a believer you would you would drive by and you would pray right you would just quickly say something like lord please please protect that person or that family or help them or and we did that and we did that out loud and that happens um but it wasn't personal i didn't go home and cry about the family that i didn't know there's nothing wrong with that except i think sometimes we read scripture that way and it doesn't become personal it becomes something we pass on the side of the road that has the potential to be valuable but just isn't for whatever reason so today i'm going to ask you if we can make it valuable to us and if we can put ourselves in a spot of a dad who is in pain because his daughter is dying and he runs to find jesus and uh and he actually finds him now let me i'm just gonna have just make a few points as we read scripture together there's moments where the lord shows up for you and that's amazing but i think many of us have been in a moment where we had to go find him we have a miracle that is needed we have something that has to happen that's something really valuable to us it might be a family member it might be a prophetic word you're sitting on but it's something that we really care about and the lord's not bursting in the door barging in the room to meet our need it's our responsibility to get out there and go find out where jesus is that was for me that was like november through february where is jesus in the middle of in the middle of everything else that's going on and jerry has had this moment where he had to actually leave his house leave the thing that was valuable to go and find jesus and so he lays down before before jesus in pain and crying and hurting begs jesus we read that it feels like he just you know he gets down jesus please come no he begs jesus to come and meet the most important person in his whole life his little girl and jesus agrees jesus is such a good father he says yes we'll we'll go and and often we get that moment of the word right we seek the lord we lay our face before the lord and we feel like we got a word from the lord yes i'm going to meet that need and then somewhere along the journey from where god responds and tells you this is where we're going to go to getting into the room with your little girl a woman come no that's not true but in this statement a woman came right somebody came and often we think well i think i should say that did jesus get distracted i thought we were on a mission together i thought we were going to go do something together i thought he was after this with me but i think he got distracted because i came to church and i saw someone else get their miracle i saw someone else get their need met i saw someone else get before him and jesus turned looked like he turned his face from following me and he's focusing on them and now they're getting healed but i don't see their need as big as my need she's just she's not dying i mean she's she's crawling she's she's out and about my my little girl's at home my little girl's dying how come jesus is hanging out wasting time with this stuff when i got things that are really valuable really important doesn't jesus know and you got to picture jarius in this moment of turmoil this moment of trying to figure out what to do does he interrupt jesus how does he respond in that moment and while he's wrestling listen while he's trying to figure out while he's being patient but struggle right you guys all know that feeling of lord we're being patient but there's a struggle internally while he's in that moment he gets a message and the message is hey you don't have to worry about this anymore your daughter's your daughter died what goes on internally in the heart of a father when you feel like you had a word from the lord when you feel like god said i'm coming to your house and the thing he was coming to get the need he was coming to me died what happens jesus so gracious over hearing he says to uh jerrias only believe the correct translation there is jesus said hey jarius keep on believing hey jerry just keep on believing sometimes the best thing you can do in these moments of struggle these moments of tension these moments where you think your dream has died is simply keep on believing can you stand in the middle of everything else around you in the middle of a crowd in the middle of people pushing and still believe for your miracle this is the tension that jerry has lived in sometimes you have to fight to keep believing him and jesus walk they continue to walk in their journey and from afar off they see the mourners and the people wailing the musicians that are there and in that culture they know they know what that means jerius walks to the house and um doesn't know what to do internally jesus has to lead him in this moment and not there's this passage it's really quick in the bible but i love it where jesus asks everybody who's mourning what happened hey why are you acting like that why are you doing that why mourn she's not dead she's only sleeping and everyone laughs at him you ever been in those moments where you tell someone your dream your vision you tell someone the thing and everybody laughs at you okay i feel like this is what god said now that that can't be true everyone's laughing and jesus does this incredible thing in scripture he does something that i think we should do more often is he kicks everybody out that is my favorite part of this whole message he kicks them all out often we forgo our miracle i think sometimes not because god's not willing but because we hang out with a bunch of people that don't value the thing that god values and we feed ourselves with untruth with lack of faith with disbelief and we can't enter into the place that god wants us to be some of you listen here hear my heart some of you need to kick some people out of your house some of you just some parents are like i'm gonna go tell my kid when i get home he's gone no that's not that's not what i'm saying maybe it is i don't know but some truly can we hang out no can we be friends absolutely not we cannot you want to get coffee i do not want to get coffee with you why because i because we have those people in our life yes you want to get coffee it's not real there's no exchange there's just lack of faith there's no iron sharp in iron it's like iron and butter it just doesn't work right it's just like you're gross i don't know what to tell you but your life just is meh you have no faith you cry about everything you complain about everything everything's bad no faith you want to hang out definitely not and and you got to kick people out of your house why because it gives access for the lord to step into your bedroom to step into the place of intimacy and i love i love church like this i love it this is our house i love our house i love all of it i love twin view i love first second and third service i love i love the healing rooms i love all the crazy stuff i deep down sometimes love even the you know maybe chris does it but i sometimes love the crazy stuff in the paper because i'm like it's kind of you know at least they're saying something you know what i mean so i kind of love it you know but i and i love this i love this place and i love the the big the big parts of this place right i love the miracles of this place and what happens in big rooms with lots of crowds of people and i love the big worship and i love everything that we do i love all of that but often we have to get through all the public stuff so that god could meet us in our bedroom by ourself when no one is around but maybe the few people that you put in your life maybe those few people right and i think that's what god wants to do with us or i should say has been doing with us is that is that we got to get rid of all the distracting stuff so that we can meet jesus in our secret place in our in our quiet time in our prayer closet uh perkins who is an administrator with us who just left she talked to the students before before she left and she had this great story of when she first came to school she heard everybody met in their prayer closet so she didn't know any different she didn't know what that was so she literally got in her closet her little closet in her apartment because she thought that's where we where she met the lord so she would just spend hours in her closet with the light off like by herself and just praying because she's like i don't know this must be this must be the place you do it you know it's funny except i think more of us should probably do that do you know what i mean like that's a great it's great but god wants to meet us in intimacy often so jerius takes takes jesus drags him to his miracle some of you have been dragging jesus to your miracle and let me just tell you it's it's coming if it's not here it's coming there's no other option he's jesus this is what he i don't know if you know this this is what he does this is who he is right so jerry finds his miracle jarius gets excited and then jesus says don't tell anybody that's so hard to do you know what i mean don't tell anybody i don't have revelation on that i'm sure bill does he'll tell you next week i know why he'd said that but um anyway so we have this dad who goes to get jesus right now let's turn to genesis 22 this is the flip side of that a little bit so this father who's in pain goes to get jesus in genesis 22 and i might paraphrase this a little bit um it's a long passage and most of us probably know this we have abraham now abraham unlike jarius is minding his own business all right if you read chapter 21 abraham's doing really well at this point he has isaac check word from the lord fulfilled right he had a bit of an issue with his wife and this other woman right kind of a domestic dispute in there you can read about it he fixed that problem with him and the lord fixed it he's doing really good he makes a few covenants in there he's pumped life is good everything that god promised him answered fulfilled oh man he's awesome and then all of a sudden god says hey abraham and he says yes lord because we all would say yes lord right and then the lord says hey that thing i gave you that thing you really value i'm gonna want that back here's the the tough part sometimes is some of us are in a position where i get it we're not we're kind of in a uh have we talked about being in a fight place that we're in right some of us are fighting because we're dragging god to a miracle some some of you are about to fight because god goes hey you know all that stuff i gave you all that blessing all that increase all that stuff let's see how much you love that stuff and he tells abraham hey take your son and go up to the mountain i'm going to show you and sacrifice your son there and i think abraham has to has to wrestle with this this moment where god finds him often it's um often the challenge we face in our interaction with the lord isn't so much do we hear him it's what do we do after we hear him i mean most of us say yes lord but then what do you do after he asks the question after he tells you what to do that's that's it your response often dictates your outcome there's a great story that um bill shared with me years ago and i love it about this amazing man of god at a at a a table a dinner after a conference you know um i don't know if you know this but people go to conferences speakers go and then often they go eat dinner afterwards it's like the coolest part of the whole deal right i shared the story this true story i was with bill at some conference somewhere i was probably like 25 years old and i thought it was so cool because you get to sit now i don't honestly in my heart of hearts now i don't care but i used to care right i used to care that i sat on this front row once i cared so much once that this is honest truth these are amazing fathers talk about fathers a little bit amazing fathers chris told me once hey for the next like six months don't sit on the front row and i was like but why just sit find a seat somewhere not in the front and sit there right so yeah so i had some issues going on internally they're mostly killed now but i had this moment with bill we were driving back from this event back to the hotel and i think cheon was there jill austin was there jill i think or somebody turned the bill and said hey we're going to go get dinner you want to come and i got so excited deep down i was like i'm going to get to go to dinner it's going to be awesome now let's be honest no one cares that i'm at dinner at this point i'm 25 and the only the only thing they know about me is he's this is some mexican kid that bill brought with him that carries something i don't know you know so but bill said when they asked bill to go to dinner bill said no i'm good i'm tired i'm just gonna go to the hotel and like the whole way back to hotel i'm like are you sure you're not hungry you're not hungry for dinner you don't want dinner we went back to the hotel and i laid the hotel and i had to repent because i had a bad heart which i did and the lord forgives me but that's the side note at this particular dinner this amazing man of god was that along with these other amazing men and women of god and the holy spirit showed up in the room at the table and it was tangible enough that you could feel it you know these moments were like you walk in church and you're like ooh you don't even got to do nothing right like there's moments in church that that you know the lord shows up he responds to you and he shows up and then there's moments where you didn't do a thing let's be clear about that you rolled in to something paul was doing and you were like oh yeah this is amazing it was one of those moments right holy spirit showed up everyone everyone knew in the room except there was one man at the table who pulled himself away from the table and said i have to go the lord's calling and i have to go spend time with him i would love here's why i love that story i would love to tell you that the story's not about me just to be clear i wish it was but it isn't but i would love to say that i i could be that person that pulls himself away from the table hopefully i will be when i first heard the story instantly in my heart i thought i think i would have been the person that recognized he was there and stayed to eat steak that's that's a bummer abraham met jesus and then did something about it so abraham takes his son he uh he answers jesus and you don't have to answer right i mean i don't i think that abraham had a choice in that moment i i really do i i think the lord says here's what i want to do i think abraham could have said oh i'm not doing that and i think god would have left isaac and abraham alone and often in your our response to what jesus asks of us what the holy spirit asks of us we can say no and often and say no we alleviate a lot of pain we just don't get the blessing that comes at the end but abraham said yes and so he takes his son he takes two of his servants and his sons and his son and he goes up the mountain and when they get to the base of the mountain he tells his servants you wait here i'm going to go up to the mountain with my son and then he prophesies over himself and he says listen we're going to go worship and then we're going to come back now did he know that was going to happen i don't think he knew i think he was being prophetic the way sometimes we're prophetic in the middle of pain some of you have to do that some of you need to begin to prophesy over yourself and go listen i'm in the middle of something but here's what i'm going to do i'm going to go to that mountain we're going to worship and we're going to come back this is what's happening to me and you can wait here but me and my boy are going right and i love the servanthood part of who we are i love that as our house we're servants but let me just be really clear i'm talking to moms and dads sons and daughters today i want you to continue to be servants but often sons go where servants can't and it's imperative that we learn how to interact in this culture as sons and daughters as moms and dads and abraham takes his son and leaves his servants and they go up the mountain together and on the way up the mountain isaac like any boy asks i think the bible has one says one question i think he asks lots of questions because that's what kids do hey i know i see the fire i see the knife where's the sacrifice at how much longer are we there yet what is happening right now right and i think the dad abraham like any typical dad has no good answers for him all he has is god's gonna figure it out god will figure this out and i again he was promising over himself but i think he did i think in that moment he didn't know what the answer was he knew he had a word from the lord and he was sticking with his word from the lord and isaac goes up and we know that isaac listen we sometimes if we're not if especially for new believers we get a picture of isaac in like the rembrandt painting right this little bitty baby so cute it's not that wasn't it right isaac was probably in his 20s he was a grown man abraham was 120. he was an old man so we have a grown man and an old man walking up a mountain that's a story somewhere there's a there's a poem in there somewhere right and they walk up this mountain together and then what has to happen is there's uh there's a i think if you would just indulge me between verse 9 and 10 there's a story that happened that the bible doesn't really communicate and i think it's there because this this is a representation of christ right as as jesus carried his cross up for his sacrifice so did isaac carry the wood for his sacrifice up it's a it's a precursor to jesus it's what abraham has it's what the lord has to do with with his son so there's a story about jesus and the father in the garden that happens and i think there's a story in between verse 9 and 10 where abraham has to sit with his son and say hey we have to have a chat as a father if you can put yourself in that spot the most painful chat any father would have with his son ever in the history of man which is i need you to trust me so much that you could die in this moment and isaac has to make a choice now we know that that abraham's not manhandling his son i have my family there there's my boy there's my oldest stand up just because do you see him yes don't clap for him don't clap don't clap he gets up here don't clap just let it just let him stand up like a normal person it's great okay that that's him this is beautiful long hair that i'm trying to get him to cut but he's got some nazarite thing happening we're working on it seriously i'm like that's old testament stuff you don't need that but it's okay um so uh anyway he's a big boy he's bigger than me yes yes i mean he's he's a lot bigger than me and i don't know what i did to do that right i don't know sit down you're good now sit down right but there isn't there the other day he shook my hand and i'm like you have there's sausages on your on your palms it's just large sausages he's like hey dad and he gave me a hug and i'm like this is you're huge you know what i mean this is what abraham's having to deal with there isn't a world that i'm like hey i'm i'm going to kill you whether you like it or not there's not a world where that's true right abraham has to have a uniquely difficult conversation with his son where he goes listen i need you to let me do this to you and this is a story as much of about isaac as it is about abraham now let me talk to the sons in here i think we've been in this church in this house we've been going through a season of up the mountain here as sons asking lots of questions what are we doing are we there yet what's happening hey i see the knife and i see the fire what the heck are we killing what are we killing can someone tell me what is it me are we killing me what's happening and as a church culture we've been going through that i think that's true we've had you know we've been chat we've been challenged and blessed at the same time right challenged and blessed all the same time but we've been working through this up the mountain season as a church asking lots of really great questions getting no answers no answers i don't know what these two guys are doing on the front row you know what i mean what's happening here's what isaac had to do isaac had to choose to lay down for a vision he never heard from the lord he only heard from a father he had to allow himself to be in such connection such relationship with a dad where he goes dad i completely trust you i know your heart after god and if you think this is what we're supposed to do then i'm going to let you do that the trust that a son puts in a father so we all know the story abraham's about to kill his son and jesus or the lord says no no no we're we're good don't do that don't do that there is a ram in the thicket and in that moment abraham is pumped and isaac is even more pumped than his father like we always think like abraham's so excited no isaac is pumped it's not just not just abraham isaac yes lord thank you jesus for the rest of my life i will serve you no matter what this is isaac in that moment right but isaac doesn't get that response without his daddy right his dad doesn't get to have that response without his son it's them working together it's fathers and sons it's it's in this culture it's mothers and daughters it's it's parents and kids that get to work together to find out what is the lord doing to find their miracle in the middle of often what is pain in the middle of things we don't understand and in that moment in that moment we have isaac who gets to lay down a dad who gets to fulfill a call of god on his life and the bible goes on to say that as the lord speaks to abraham he tells abraham hey your seed is going to be blessed like the sands of the seashore and all of these amazing things and that word even though god spoke it to abraham is as much of a word for isaac as it is for abraham abraham doesn't get that word without an isaac and isaac doesn't get to live in the fulfillment of everything he's called to without abraham i think that this house for me this place is filled with if i can put it in these terms abrahams and isaac in here that we have fathers and sons we have mothers and daughters and i think we have an opportunity in this next season that we're in no matter if we're caterpillars if we're our skin's falling off in the middle of the thing or if we're butterflies we have an opportunity to work together to see the fulfillment of something great that god has called us to and i think we're going to do it let's stand together really quickly we're going to pray let me just challenge you really quickly as you stand as fathers and mothers if i can speak to you really quick it's your responsibility to cultivate relationships with sons and daughters listen to me moms and dads in the room not yes your sons and daughters but actually spiritual sons and daughters in this place if you can't do a good job at cultivating relationship what'll happen is you'll have sons and daughters that carry your stuff up the mountain but never laid down for you we don't just want people that carry stuff we want a company of believers who sacrifice now for sons and daughters in the room which i know there's many it's your responsibility to cultivate relationships with your moms and dads in the room if you can't do that then when asked to sacrifice instead of laying down you'll run away and you'll thwart all the blessing that god has lined up for you because you're too scared to trust a father in the room i think it's important that we learn to work together and i think we are let me just say that i think we i've never been so excited to be in this place as i am right now this is this is the best i think we have the best i can just say this as a son here as as well as you know growing into a father i look at these amazing men and women on the front row and i think we have the best moms and dads on the planet and um i really do value and trust where we're going and the direction that we're headed and we're so excited and i would just say that for me as a son in this house it is an honor to lay down and sacrifice for the vision that god gave my moms and dads i hope that you feel that way um it is a it's a real grace being here so no matter where you're at in that journey if you're a darius in there and you're like hey i'm i'm finding jesus and dragging him to my miracle if you're in abraham or you're like i was minding my own business and the lord came and talked to me right i don't know what i'm going to do but i guess we're going up this mountain together and we're going to figure it out together no matter no matter where you're at here's need to know that god is faithful and god is good no matter where you're at and your miracle is coming no matter what if he has to walk into your bedroom and raise someone from the dead or if he has to save someone from dying god is faithful he is true and he is good let's just pray together really quick lord thank you so much for who you are in us and in our lives and i pray that out of this place out of this house out of this room for those watching lord that you would create moms and dads that simply say yes to what you're doing simply follow you no matter what the cost no matter what the price i pray that you would help us to be sons and daughters that choose to to give all lord even if often we don't hear it directly from you but that we would we would give everything knowing that lord you're in it jesus you're so good to us and i pray that over these next these next weeks months or that you would demonstrate how good you are to everyone listening today father demonstrate your goodness in jesus name amen [Applause] so good such a good word thank you so much gabe i'm so thankful really messy i i fed my child eggs this morning and he just hit it and rubbed it over his body and then and then he asked me to pick him up and i did it and i was covered in a lot of stuff but because i love him and i felt like the lord said i want you to know you don't have to clean yourself up this morning that actually it's time to come home it's a turnaround moment that repentance means turning the other way and going in the opposite direction and i heard him say today you get to receive the free gift of righteousness the beautiful thing about a father is a father gives free gifts and he doesn't attach a payment plan to it see there's people in the room you need to hear that you don't have to qualify yourself colossians 1 12 says that he has qualified you the father has qualified you to receive the inheritance of the saints what does that mean if you didn't qualify yourself in the first place you have no right to disqualify yourself so some of you have disqualified yourself from the inheritance the lord has called you to and today it's time to come home and we want to celebrate that homecoming with you the inheritance jesus paid for that jesus freely laid down his life just like gabe was talking about with isaac he freely laid down his life because he loves you and so today if that's you if you're like i i want to give my life to jesus i actually want a new start with him i want to become a new creation i want to turn 180 from the way i was going and come home to jesus come home to a good father then would you put your hand up if you're in the room we want to
