[Music] [Music] so so so [Music] go good evening and a happy sabbath again thank you all for joining those on zoom and youtube or wherever you're joining us from welcome welcome welcome this evening jovi dr jovi and yours truly john have the pleasure of hosting this evening's ay continuing under the theme men appointed and anointed to go yes this evening we want to get into what it really means to be appointed and anointed is there a difference between the two um yeah i would say there's a difference uh to be anointed is to be set apart um empowered or protected many can be anointed but there is a single anointed one who made it possible for all of us and anointing means to empower people to accomplish god's work for protection or to describe the messiah's deliverance christ is our deliverer and the bridge that empowers all christians to be empowered to carry on his works if it weren't for jesus's work god would not have sent the helper or the holy spirit without jesus our reach in carrying out god's work uh would have been limited for sure so you're saying john is that christ set the pavement set the way as to how we are supposed to accomplish his work and he sends help to the meaning of the holy spirit definitely that is exactly what i'm saying what else in the bible do i join does the holy spirit is mentioned as the person who offers this assistance um well there are several stories you know of men in the bible old testament and new testament uh who have been appointed and anointed and guided by the holy spirit um but to focus a bit more on us and present time in addition to the old testament leaders and jesus being anointed the apostle paul spoke of an anointing of all christians and it is god who establishes us within you are sorry with you in christ and has anointed us and who has also put his seal on us and given us his spirit in our hearts as a guarantee that's second corinthians 1 verses 21 at first glance it may appear that paul only spoke of himself and those with him as anointed however he states that the holy spirit within the believer us you and i and everyone watch everyone watching is associated with god's anointing every christian is anointed or chosen by god as his children and set apart for him for acts of service excellence but do you know that persons tend to use the term anointed loosely and even in several of their services in several churches the use of the anointing oil ceremonially in acts of anointment is commonly practiced so do persons have to be robbed with oil to be anointed or appointed to service agent no i would say no are there several though there are several instances in the bible um where oil is used to anoint i believe and i think many others should would believe um that the oil is symbolic and as i said before by becoming christians as paul said before by becoming christians we have been anointed and given an appointment to spread the gospel and to emulate christ so that others may be drawn to him furthermore god has anointed most of us in different ways by blessing us with gifts the ability to speak to minister to sing even physical characteristics um like strength bravery and leadership of um service you know those um who are gifted in in leadership serve according to their gifts just as others who may serve with perhaps less visible gifts such as mercy or encouragement serve according to their gifts uh as romans 12 verses 45 teaches for as in one body we have many members and the members do not all have the same function so we though many are one body in christ and individually members of one another so each of us have something different to offer that when we work together as one we achieve the main fundamental appointment god has asked us to fulfill and that's to bring people onto him okay i understand a bit more but to get even further inside this evening we'll be talking about how is it that god has appointed us toward different careers you've been having persons being interviewed um let me just mention them we will have an elder bennett who is joining us has been one of our leaders and serves in various capacities in our church having passed the barnaby um pastor passport services serves in a lot of capacities at the local and regional level also we were having brother keith thomas and also elder grant who would also be sharing um their perspectives on what needs to be appointed and anointed um in their various rules but before we go any further hey john can you just pray to begin your service sure no problem let us pray most writers and eternal father we thank you once more for bringing us all together to commune amongst you and the holy spirit to gain some insight into how we can gain a closer connection with you dear lord as we go ahead in this ay service i ask that we will receive a blessing and that we will see that we are indeed worthy of you and that we have been anointed and appointed by you to fulfill your goal of having souls being brought to you and having us being with you in your kingdom ask that you just continue to bless us and keep us on that as we interview these persons that someone watching will gain some insight and will feel uh regain a sense of purpose and continue to dwell and strengthen their faith in you thank you once again for all that you have done continue to keep us i pray in jesus name amen [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] hey [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] no i don't [Music] oh [Music] me [Music] [Music] oh [Music] i want to go to heaven when i died i i would fly fly away [Music] my jesus say yes [Music] [Music] [Music] jesus said yes when they never say no jesus said good afternoon and happy sabbath to everyone the scripture reading will be taken from deuteronomy 15 verses 7 to 11 deuteronomy 15 verses 7 to 11 and it reads thus if there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the lord thy god giveth thee thou shalt not harden thine heart nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother but thou shalt open thy hand wide unto him and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need in that which he wanteth beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart saying the seventh year the year of release is at hand and then i be evil against thy poor brother and thou givest him not and he cried unto the lord against thee and it be sin unto thee thou shalt surely give him and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him because that for this thing the lord thy god shall bless thee in all thy works and in all though put as shine unto him for the poor shall never cease out of the land therefore i command thee saying thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother to thy poor and to thy needy in thy land here ends a reading of a portion of god's holy word amen [Music] o loving heavenly father great creator of this universe the one who created the sabbath day of rest we come this afternoon to give you all the praise on all the glory we lift you up because you are awesome you are holy god you are always there for us in our bad times in our good times whatever times we face on this land in our lifetime you are there with us oh god we come to ask you this evening that you will be with us as we worship you as we worship you online we pray that you will bless every participant and that lord you will bless the internet and that you will bless your people and even those who will listen after today we pray that our blessings will be theirs we pray that you will lead us and direct us and as you have appointed us and anointed us help us lord that we will go and do your work we will lift you up and that others will be drawn to you we pray that you will bless the proceeding of this afternoon's program bless the pseudonym church bless the church worldwide continue to abide with us we pray in jesus name amen amen so we have interviews um coming up next but before we get into the interviews um we'll be having jovi first uh let's we want you guys to have a discussion in the chat so i want you guys to interact with us a little bit um so we have some food for thought some questions that we want you guys to ponder upon and think think about while we're going through this evening service so the first question is uh is there a difference between appointing an anointing and if you can tell us what that difference is what makes them different also sometimes we lose our sense of purpose and we feel unworthy and incapable of being like a moses a david or joseph so are we any less valuable to christ's plan and end goal to gain souls for him than such biblical characters and the final question and i'll i'll repeat it over time so that if anybody um forgets you be reminded um the final question can someone be anointed and struggle to fulfill their duty all right so jovi let me just ask you a question real quick um why did you decide to become a doctor why did you choose your career path what gravitate to you as well thank you thank you adrian for questioning okay from my new brothers and sisters in christ my name is jovi taylor i'm a medical doctor currently employed at the university of the hospital of the west indies and the department of surgery and anesthesia um from time to time you may hear some discord in the background we apologize on reflection my reason for you is in this career field is multifactorial and it was not my initial first choice however the first time the thought came into my mind to you know going to the field of medicine was back in 2007 2006 2007 when i fractured my great toe and for the first time you know i get a cast spending my entire right lowering then after six weeks i could basically walk again you know before i couldn't walk somehow this interests me as to how we got from one point to the other you know the healing process and this experience was being supplemented later by the bankers and books um appearances were given to read in summertime fast forward to the reality adjourn of the jamaican school system yes um you're basically pressured into well for those of you don't know i went into the great american college where boys are pressured to be either doctors and lawyers and that played a major role um the person got known me well um from really young thought i was positioned to go into the ministry pastoral ministry that is that to be honest you know that that was on my mind at one point in time so was being a pilot you know among you know they said you know why would you argue what i believe god edge on prepared to be where i am today um from time to time clinics especially at functional hospital where i was i'll come across patients who would approach me not just for pharmacological therapeutic management but by emotional psychological health and from like not to go into specifics from sexual abuse taking ability to care for a loved one with their current chronic illnesses um and each person requires individual attention and targeted advice and i see where god used me many times in that moment to bring either a word of comfort or to exceed my own capabilities and sorting out that situation you know and it's always long after i can sit back and say to myself wait how did i get that information at that point in time you know but then as you mentioned earlier once you allow god to use you and you make something like the holy spirit hey john yes to you know bringing these words to your mind you know and able to help someone so you know philippians 4 verse 13 i can do all things through christ with strengthening so that's my mantra um so we talk about being appointed um to go in our careers and i wonder what have i been doing in these years of clinical experience how do i share christ i firmly believe that displaying the fruits of the spirit love joy peace lungs of patience let me repeat patience living the truth is one of the ways i try to um operate the word being tried to share the light um that i know you know matthew 5 verse 16 which is in heaven you know so i can attest to commentaries i join from patients and colleagues publicly and privately who i admire become inspired and are encouraged after their interaction with me and to that prisoner um another avenue that i think i share christ in a medical doctor is truly willing to occur and it's not it's not something i'm constantly also quoting scriptures and i'll tell you when i'm just prefer to say that progress are far away not only in bringing a sense of calm especially before we engage in a surgical procedure but um especially when the person is from a religious background and you as a doctor pray for them it does wonders it lowers blood pressure i tell you also similarly randomly reciting um just a confident scripture um especially when i'm breaking bad news which from the other day seems to be more frequent than that than i would um sometimes i would mention uh certain sounds you know you know and sometimes it's important your workforce is great impressive you know because it can be tricky in that situation you know but certainly once you say i'll pray for you you know things open up this discussion as to which church i am from and then i'll just interject um and you [Music] we just did a surgical procedure i'm just at the same man and basically i'm completing him in order his own space you know what he's saying what they're doing and i just said you know sir i'm engaging in advances youth meeting and you say i was an adventist you know i was going to open up on a different you know possible worst site in the program you know what that was another opportunity um to bring price to someone and lastly i just shared that um your attitude is a very important point part in the workplace your attitude having a positive attitude without the interpersonal relationships that you develop among colleagues um it serves as a gateway to a more american discussion about anything really um when person is expecting you also to react in a certain manner to a particular situation and then you know they don't react in that way you know they're going to just condense it why is it this person up this way you know and many times you know it opens up a way to introduce god without just someone who is i share christ you know um but enough about me um we have somebody who i've looked up to you know for most of my um formative years and i know him from you know i'm basically in church elder harold bennett thank you sir for joining are you hearing me yes man i'm hearing you thank you for joining this afternoon i'm eager to hear your perspective um for those who don't know can you just tell us a little about your professional life and why did you choose your career well um i've been a teacher since 1986. long before you were born interviewer let me say that um i wanted to become a nurse you know okay i wanted to become a nurse i was even called for the interview in 1980 second of feb february to be exact at the bellevue um hospital yes uh but um the creator has another plan for me i never got to sit there the interview because in those days dr javert we had to have a your certificate in jse and for you to have that certificate um you have to pass english i must confess i was not the the the best english student in those days but um i must say that that year i passed english so when i left there left bellevue hospital and went to the um to the ministry they searched to see whether or not i had passed the english they never saw it so i had to go back to monty kobe i was working at the hotel then yeah okay yeah yeah we wear many hats back in the day yes man as a matter of fact when i left school in um 77 i i um i became a teacher at my alma mater my early school you remember maybe you don't remember in those days we have what we call youth youth service worker yes i worked as a as a as a teacher then and when i left in 78 there was a parent who took away her to run children to grandson saying that i was the only teacher at the school although i never taught those voices but as i said the the creator had another plan for me while i am worked at the hotel i was told that a former colleague of mine went to college mr to myself college because he he and i were in the same class you know and when i was coming the first and second in my class he came way down 1620 and i said to myself if he were able to go to college then i can so i i applied to church teachers college in 1982 and and i got accepted man excellent excellent well let me bring you in a school environment that is anti-adventism how easy or difficult was it for you to market christ it was easy man because i know that um as a teacher you are impacting life as a as a matter of fact dr tv one day a student asked me sir how come you do not even wear a chin i mean you mean i smile you know no but um as an adventist teacher you know in a catholic based school you have to portray yourself as a christian you must not charge change the student as a matter of fact there are teachers at school who they were at the university and they were at school at the same time i hope you understand what i'm saying while they have classes at times the school they were up there at the university doing their thing you don't charge in student and i never never never charge a student as a matter of fact if i may yesterday i i was in this pharmacy there was a young lady who i never taught um and she said to me saying catherine hi so you know me say yes sir you you are one of those pleasant teachers mr yes but i never taught her but um um she was impressed by the way i conducted myself yes well well we know um the mission is not just for students so were you able to carry out the mission among your peers or colleagues and if so yes ma'am um you know at school we had a group of um teachers we still born together now but they know where mr bennett stands you know because um as a as a teacher who is appointed by god who is called you cannot act the same way your colleagues act although the bible say you must you must be in the world but not a part of the world i hope i've quoted um quoted it correctly you could help me doctor my brain arm is not so young as you though but um i ensure that um i trod the um the line where christianity is concerned correctly huh even um the principle was impressed by um my my working there you know you know let me tell you dr joffrey i i became a senior teacher and when i became a senior teacher it was a vice principal who told me that she asked the principal that um i'd be a senior teacher that was far from me becoming a senior teacher but i never knew that people watch you the staff members watch you and see how you operate and um i'm happy today that i did um do my rule the way that i should as a matter of fact doctor jovi pastor barnaby's wife was a student of mine yes ma'am okay as mentioned it's funny you mentioned uh past about your wife can i just pause you for a moment yes bring on pastor prime to see what he has to say and to see if he's if you're gonna come back right back to you let me just bring him right okay listen good good good evening and happy sabbath i just love these two moderators what a time to bring me on you know elder i i was listening to elder bennett and i'm sure i was was doing my very best to you know to follow him and to be inspired but when you when i heard my wife's name of course you know there was a glow on my face on the countenance let me say good evening everyone and um i'll greet you uh in the capacity in which i serve as director and as church pastor i must reach on behalf of the administration of our conference and also commend our men's ministries director our leader for the tremendous work that he is doing i think his brother shabba's grown am i right yes beautiful and i want to commend the team too for having planned this very timely and relevant program i am actually sharing in another program so i really appreciate you uh brother benny you know just allowing me to come in just at the point when my wife's name was called thank you for having had such a a a profound impact on my wife you know i mean i i you know she's a great lady and you know you could tell that she has been influenced by positive and christian people like yourself so i want to say thanks now i i just want to say um just a few quick things before i run off and i'm looking at your theme uh men appointed and anointed to go now i you know i sat and i and i was putting some some thoughts together and i and i came up with this brother benny this is is it's my my interpretation you know or the interpretation that i would add to it so i would say anointed is the power to do and appointed is the position to do let me just say that again um anointed is the power to do in other words uh when one is appointed it means that he or she is given the power to function in the capacity um and then uh that's anointed you have the power to do it you you are you have some authority you have some external influence that drives you uh to do that and then appointed appointed is the position and so um while you are anointed you are anointed in a position uh to function to go and in this case to go so i will quickly say that um there are many who have been appointed in that the lord has placed you in a position wherever you are be it in the classroom beat in the beat in the in in whatever organization the lord has appointed you that's your position whatever it is and um not only has he appointed you but he has anointed you so he has given you the power to be effective as a christian and in this case as a christian man and of course we are living in a an age where there is a cry for men men who are true to duty as a needle to uphold many will stand up for the right though the heavens fall and i've always said that while we the men at the sydney church and by the way my membership is still at the sydney sims the adventist church and i don't know when that will change but as men at the sydney i'm saying to the adventist church we may not be able to change the world but if we believe that we have been appointed by god and anointed by god to go we will endeavor to make a difference so you may not be able to change the world but you should be able to make a difference and i want to say thanks would have been it for having made a difference and when i listened to these young men this evening it is obvious that their lives would have been impacted by individuals who would have made a difference in their lives and and and in their own experience so i'll share with you just three quick things as i run for those you know just how you can identify men who are appointed and anointed to go because we are speaking now within the context of evangelism so i leave with your three m's never forget this if you want to know and identify a real christian man who is appointed and anointed by god and ready to go the first thing you need to look at is a man who is able to manage his time management he should be able to manage his time so manage his time in such a way that he is able to find time for god and time to weakness so that's the first one management he must be able to manage his time manage manage his time with his family manages time at work manages time wherever to the extent where god is not sure changed and he would have made it possible made a sacrifice as it were on time to share the love of god wherever he is at work where he is appointed all right that's management number two when a man is anointed and appointed he will he will model that which we have received we will give and one of the way to give and share the gospel is to demonstrate it by the life we live so at the workplace at school wherever we are a man who is anointed and appointed to go will display will model will showcase the transformation that he would have received from the almighty in other words he's not just a person who speaks about being a christian but even at his place of appointment he will demonstrate to the world that the love of christ dwells within him and he is walking by faith and not by sight so the first one is management he must be able to manage well he must be able to model christ in the workplace wherever he is appointed christ must be seen christ must be evident and the last one uh he must leave good memories leave good memories when the name bennett is called young people must say yes i remember him as one who was just such a decent christian teacher when the name dr gervais is called in years to come you must be remembered as that doctor who was just so calm who was just so patient and kind and and and gracious towards patients we must leave good memories because not all men are leaving good memories behind and some of us as men we are not remembered for good and positive things negative memories but i pray that before the evening is done we as men will remember that we are anointed and we are appointed by god to go and as we go we must manage we must model and we must leave good memories may god bless you and may god continue to prosper the men and boys and the youth of the sydney seventh day adventist church my church my favorite church have a good evening okay pastor all right thank you pastor barnaby deep words there to think about first think about he said we might not be able to change the world but we can make a difference we might not be able to make any significant change but we can always make a difference he said there are three m's we should be able to manage um we should be able to display transformation this demonstrate to our actions and leave good memories thank you so much for that pastor thank you for taking time out here busy schedule um i know that jovi should be continuing with pastor i'm sorry with elder bennett and i'll just ask you one more question held a minute javier had to leave because he's he had an appointment and so he was busy yeah so um you know being a doctor now right so the last question is to you elder appointed um and anointed can are they exclusive uh or do they come hand in hand and what's the reason for your choice i think it's hand in hand you know they come hand in hand you're appointed and you're anointed as pastors um explain both concepts a while ago i um i am convinced that they go hand in hand and let me um take a 30 minutes uh 30 seconds to um comment on the the memories yeah right you know i was in the line at the airport the last time i traveled and i was standing at the back of the line and i saw a security guard came and she told me that the immigration officer sent her for me and um can you imagine us from my um coat on my left hand and she took my luggage and i passed everybody you know just imagine people watching me walking up so when i went up there i saw this guy pleasant young man jackson so when i i went up there i said you are immigration officer say yes sir yes sir you know um i never knew i had such impact on that youngster i taught him in greek 10 and grade 11 but i i tell you we have to leave memories huh footprints on the sands of time it's very very important yes i thank god that um he empowered me and um and that empowerment i use that empowerment to empower others all right so uh thank you so we got a lot from that uh we saw that you had interactions with other people you have impacted even if in the smallest way in people's lives through your teaching yeah and so that's the point we're trying to bring across that at the end of the day just you you never know just to your actions just by doing a little you can really contribute a lot to um furthering god's um duty for all of us and that's to bring souls to him right so before we continue we'll have a special being done right here and then we will continue with keith thomas brother keith [Music] um [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] ah [Music] ah [Music] ah [Music] ah [Music] ah [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] hey [Applause] [Music] is [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] huh [Applause] [Music] hello [Music] um [Music] oh [Music] jesus the friend of our wounded heart such a wonderful rendition of that song all right so we'll get straight into the interview with brother keith thomas he's thomas how are you doing how are you thank you for coming um we know a bit about your profession alright some of us may know um so from my perspective i think that you're a psychologist but maybe there are different changes in your title or differences a bit could you give us a bit more details on what it is if you can about your profession what it is that it entails so thank you good afternoon everybody i'm an associate counseling psychologist uh meaning that i specialize in the counseling area of psychology and i deal with persons anybody from seven years to seven years old there's no upper limit deal with emotional problems uh sometimes learning issues relational problems uh depression almost anything moods and so on all right thank you um why did you decide to um choose this career path what gravitated you towards it um actually this is my out of my fourth career and uh you know started out of school i i was a quality control technician then i became a lab technician then i i worked in computer science you know back in the in the financial industry and it was from that out of burnout you know i was dying actually doctors didn't know what was wrong with me blood pressure going up high cholesterol all of those sort of things overwork basically and so out of that i prayed and fasted and asked god for a sign to leave i didn't yet know what i wanted to do you know just wanted to know should i get out of this thing and stay alive and i got a yes for an answer and so i resigned and not having any job or anything but within six months my health was excellent again six months of not working excellent health and during that time i started to pray and i wanted to be a i wanted to go into ministry um gospel ministry or to become a clinical psychologist or a forensic psychologist no forensic psychologist would work with the police force as i was too old they didn't want me um when i called the conference i was told i was also too old to start as a pastor and so um out of praying and asking for certain signs i've shared the experience with some persons i was led through to doing con to doing psychology but then when i applied to ncu they didn't do clinical psychology i wanted so i ended up in counseling psychology all right thank you so we heard it from um brother harold bennett and from brother keith thomas that sometimes we will see that their their path kind of means there are a lot of processes that they have to go through a lot of stages before they get to maybe where they want to and sometimes they might think that the um god is leading them in a certain direction but something different happens but it's just important to trust the process and like you said you had some issues medical issues and that's interesting to hear about um and we saw that you never gave up instead you decided to pray about what and when you um had problems with work you designed or you were overworked you took a break and sometimes it's important for us to just take a break and focus on god for a bit all right so um having gone so far it's not how long have you been doing this career platform how long it's it's eight years eight years i think yeah right so um how far seen that you've gone so far down eight years almost a decade would you say your faith has grown any stronger and if it has hope yes i i think so in the sense that uh coming from where i was um you know in terms of all those different changes and levels in career and so on as i see what i do know as i see how my clients are benefited as i hear the praises there are people who call and they don't want any other counselor to deal with them and i don't they haven't me but somebody that i have worked with has said something to them and so on um then i am i'm more assured of god in what i do and what i can enjoy forward so much that i feel like i should have been doing this for the last 20 or more years right so seeing the fruit of your labor is what you would say pushed you to um become stronger in in in your faith seeing this it contributes to what okay what i because i already thought that god was leading but this is this is like confirmation this is like confirmation so it strengthens and and this is the end because i have an idea of where i want to go on to but it will still include what i am doing okay that's cool um so uh how often would you say you've come across someone in your field of work um whose spiritual journey you've had an impact on um i wouldn't say so there are some standouts i wouldn't say a lot of stanzas stanza standouts but i think um i can call think of two right now one there was uh maybe a 20 or maybe a young adult who came it was christian by the way but a part of her challenge uh the devil was talking to her telling her to do nasty and mean things and so on and so she was also suicidal and so i remember one session she was in and she was telling me what the devil was saying about me and uh she started praying and i prayed silently i usually prayed for my clients and so i don't pray with them i pray by myself and i exp within myself explain later um but i did i just started singing a song don't remember the song no but the crying stopped her demeanor changed and she said you ever knew what that did for me you know um so uh i don't know what has happened we went through the the the intervention and uh she was good enough not completely relieved of all the problems but that's one of the challenges when you come so um if a person stops coming and many persons will stop coming once they see some change um some change started and so you know you don't get to call back to say so two years later and says how are you you know that sort of thing so i don't know how the story did but i know that um she was helped and impacted there's another case too um of uh of someone i counseled it was another female too she had clear plans of killing herself she went to this spot where it was to be done she parked and she looked and observed still thinking whether or not she should do it now as i said i i pray for my clients in the line of work that i do i work in the public arena so i can't just say well i'm going to um share my religious beliefs with clients i don't do that unless i see signs that a client would appreciate it and then i seek approval so for this client i kept praying i saw it like two three times before and then i kept praying that god would allow her to do something that would have you know triggered my my response in bringing up christ and i prayed a lot that morning before i left home in morning worship and the day she came and all the things i asked god to show me to let let me see that came right through and i i we spoke we talked and he said to me i'm going to give my life to christ this weekend you know so there are there are moments like those that you know that are clear you know impact has been made right so the power of prayer even a silent one because you said sometimes you do it in silence and it still has an effect almost immediately yeah all right we can't direct our advice we can't direct or advise clients unless i had like my own practice and i had something to say that i'm a religious person and this is how i do things and so on but it's it's a public thing so i can only take my cues from them and so i have to do a lot of praying that you know the lord will fool me or let them do what it is that triggers my my spiritual intervention right so i realized that so far yeah you given two examples um two examples that include a woman and today's wednesday after all but so i want to know is there a difference in how you approach a situation with a man versus a woman because i know that obviously you would have studied um how to approach it regardless of gender um but because you're a maybe you are able to relate more to certain experiences of a male versus a female have you actually experienced that as i'm assuming or you know well i'm thinking um usually i approach things from the point of view are what are what we call the presenting issues that the the reasons they came for counseling and so on so look at those um what i find is that in the children group up to about 17 you'll definitely see much more boys and girls coming for counseling once they become adults you'll see more females than me so the boys are brought by their parents but once they they that that gender can decide for themselves then you'll find that just like going to the doctor where men are not so quick to go to the doctor um so i i hardly have a way i would say i deal with the men separately from the women one of the main things um we have what we call ethical considerations when we work with our client you should do no harm you should you should try not to do anything that's going to harm the client you don't advise and you're doing direct and so um we just start a natural talk you know what is it you want to achieve what's going on what when does this happen and so on and out of that as i get to know the person then i know what may be more helpful and suggest it and they choose or they may say no i know myself and i'm not going to that so it means i have to come up with something else right because i've had discussions um with friends about like how therapists approach things and i'm just going based off shows and what i've seen from shows is that they never actually tell the patient what to do exactly in most cases they at least guide the patient so that they can come to the answer themselves is that would okay yes that's what's done so um you can you can bring up two situations one that the client wants to go in which as far as i know based on my training is not going to help but they are free to choose it and bring up something else and let them choose and so you say so which is it you'd rather do if that's going to end up that way and this one is going to end up you know where would you rather go right and so you said a bit that you realize that um under the age of 17 you have maybe more male clients young boys um so maybe we haven't been given as much attention as we need to and it means the overall but maybe we haven't been giving much attention to meals is there have you recognized that trend as to why um it might be there might be more males or boys um at that age having problems so so one is that boys tend to be what we call externalizing the adults um females the girls will tend to be emotional so they will they'll withdraw if an issue starts all right they'll they'll give mood emotions whereas the male is going to come strongly in active behavior and so it creates a problem in the sense that many times it's not that the girls may not have some issues too they're easily overlooked because they tend to remain quiet when they are going through these things while the male is going to he never used to fight and all of us names start turning on everybody and so on so that that that rings a bell and so he's flagged as somebody in need of some attention so so that's one that's one reason um another reason too is that we should remember that a lot of homes are mother-led female-led and the female at least adults are more inclined to seek help when they think help is needed and so the parent will bring the child um when they when they are in in need of help the boys which is as i said before are the ones who tend to act out but there are persons who come everybody girls who come and appearance so everybody who comes i i do a check on like depression anxiety and suicidal thoughts and most of it well i shouldn't say most of the times many times the child the girl will tell me that yes i've thought about it and maybe even have a plan but the mother has no idea whereas most times with the boys if that's the case they know because he's saying it or he's acting out in such a way right um so i know that um you will have a job if um some of these people um if persons didn't really have problems but i mean people will have problems regardless but what would you suggest are signs that um parents friends um associates can look out for um in these young men and young women to help them out before maybe they have to reach the point where they need therapy or psychological psychological health or assistance so so stability some amount of uh stability knowing your child so you said like parents with regard to children knowing your child and being able to identify when there's a change in the in the normal behavior now that doesn't necessarily mean that the client is in need of the child is in need of counseling but it does suggest that something is going on and so parents can try to have improved relationships um with their children so that children feel free to talk when i when i counsel a child i one of the things i tell the parents is that i am not going to tell you everything that your child tells you i only tell you things that has to do with life and death or things that you need to know even though it's your child because for that same reason they should have been able to tell you what they shared with me all right so if a child comes if a boy come and say that he kissed his girlfriend the day before um i don't have anything to say to the parents if you want you can tell them that you know but when it comes to abuse and things like those life and death matters um i have to share with the parents um something else that that they can um look out for apart from the apart from the change um is that maybe even in change of friends change of friends so change of behavior they used to be outgoing they're no um reclusive uh they used to be sort of shy no they are acting out and being defiant and so on you know those those can be cries for help um talking about suicide sometimes people say that what they are crying for is that that may be so but we don't take that as a reason we take every threat of suicide as being a serious serious thing and then we investigate we assess to see you know where is this coming from does this uh need help or so on but we're talking about church people so if you find that your child uh used to be very involved in church and so on but there is a there's a marked change no and and in normal teenager life because of peer pressure and what somebody calls modification they start to become they're transitioning between you know adolescents and others child and and adult uh there could be some change in you know maybe with regard to church or religious think but if you see marked changes and so on that's something to to investigate as well all right so um after uh we're trying to um show how um modern day jobs like yours are different from bible characters but we recognize that at the end of the day people are people and that's why the bible was given to us to um draw inspiration from to learn lessons from so is there any bible character that comes to your mind outside of uh maybe god or jesus who you've drawn inspiration from in your profession yes so um i remember we were joking about um jethro um moses uh father-in-law right yeah when and he was he gave um moses some good advice you know so that was like uh a counselor from then i looked at at david so you know in my line of work um one of the area of speciality is suicidal behavior and is that different we see a difference in the profession between somebody who is suicidal and somebody who wants to who wants to die and i see in the book of some you know several times david may say you know i've had enough um lord he said he wasn't saying i'm going to kill myself but based on the experience he was lord um take me you know and and so what that has what that has taught me is that everybody it doesn't matter how close to christ and heaven you sleep every night anybody can develop mental health challenges all right let me talk about mental challenges i'm not just talking about suicidal behavior and clinical depression and so on just relationships if if there is someone who hardly has a good poor who has a poor relationship with almost everybody that's a mental health issue all right so things are things like those my my belief is that we can't look down on people or someone because they they have issues because all of us either has and so the thing is to deal with people to say that well if they weren't going through what they're going through maybe things would have been different so we have to be very confident with persons because they have certain issues yeah i think so for sure i think we as people have a tendency to um through our actions ostracize folks um because we judge them and not we're not realizing that we ourselves have had um issues like this but we try we some people did really differently some people push it under the rug um some people actually you know or maybe some of us may have had a little better coping skills you know right or so but yes all of us could are susceptible to issues i agree so last question now where is traffic time when i have immigrant um left to go so um i will pass this to everybody a question appointed um versus anointed can they be exclusive or do they command in that again so i believe that depends on who did the appointment so appointment by man um is not the same as being appointed by god appointment by man is an appointment but the person may not be anointed and i'm thinking that when we talk about anointment anointing about being anointed by god however if god does the appointment be sure that he will anoint or equip you you know give you that extra what they used to call it function to function that's extra thing that that is like or so on to fit you for what he wants you to achieve right all right thank you so much for speaking with us and for giving us your perspective on what's happening in your field and area of work and expertise thanks so much all right so as we're just finished with keith we are going to go have a little break with the new song selection and then we'll come back with delta [Music] jesus is my oh what a force says of glory divine [Music] is god [Music] of his spirit lost in his [Music] this is my [Music] story this is my song praising myself [Music] a day [Music] [Music] this is my song [Music] praising my savior [Music] [Music] perfect submission perfect angel's descending [Music] whispers of love [Music] this is my story this is my song praising my savior all day long and this is my story this is my song praising my savior all that is is [Music] this is my story this is my song praising my savior and this is my story this is my song praising my savior praising my savior all the day long praising myself [Music] oh [Laughter] all right we'll have elder grant on no prodigrant yes i'm very much here all right all right okay all right so we'll get right into it um can you just give us tell us briefly um like we asked everybody can just briefly what it is that your job enters unlike how did you get to where you are now in your in your path in your journey to this career field um why did you decide to choose it wow that's interesting my my choice from from high school days brother ijan good evening everyone my choice from high school days was to to be a doctor medical doctor but for whatever reason god decided otherwise i actually did the sciences and everything but upon leaving high school i went straight into an investment even though i did all the science courses i ended up doing financing and investment with a major um one of jamaica's major conglomerate the grace candidate group of companies i somehow switched career after a while because of reasons now that this i'm starting to be pressured against the sabbath so i i moved away from that and the lord has led me now currently to be the administrator at the clarendon health services with major responsibilities of taking care of caring for lives just as jovia said i'm not a doctor but i'm responsible for helping to save lives just the same you know what i really am appreciative of right now because it is it is allowing me to interact and meet many persons at different levels here in jamaica and abroad touch lives in many ways many ways rather uh politicians ordinary man in the street persons that you least expect and that is where i am right now so this is how the lord has led me to a part of design to do what i wanted to but he had other plans for me where he led me through financing an investment that i could end up in administrative duties with the ministry of health right all right so um seeing that you've um had this experience in your career part and you've switched from um i have had all these switches um do you have you noticed that right maybe where you are now better able to um minister to people or bring into souls not just in your workplace but to apply what you've learned not just um biblically or um but in your field have you been able to apply what you've learned in your field to bring in souls practically yes from there from my start of in in my work and became a seven-day adventist my duties basically called me to interact with people and that create the opportunity for me to share the word and personally i have no apologies to anyone for where i am to let them know that this is what i stand for and to let people know about the love of jesus many on many occasions i would just have a group of person unlike kitty he has to be guided he follows the plan of the organization i don't know maybe because of the position that i hold i am not apologetic even for instance just this week i had a group of midwives seated in my conference room and based on what is happening and the need for persons to work i had to remind them of where we are in prophecy where we are in our journey to the promised land and let people know let them know that if they have not made a decision for christ they need to do so because time is winding up for everyone i had the honorable minister of health before me someday and i i wasn't apologetic to him neither when he mentioned to me that hey grant your your time is coming you have to go home to sabbatis drawing night i say i'm very happy that you know that i stand on the word of god what is your position honorable minister no matter what you're looking at in life there comes that time when you must make a decision for christ so i'm not apologetic sir thomas or how i share the word without with the persons that i interact with right so um can you give us any um specifics because um uh the next question i have is we know that um everybody encounters obstacles right so even in the bible a lot of these characters endure things or maybe they've encountered a person that was like a roadblock of sorts when it might have feel like um the devil put them there um have you had any interactions with a co-worker client a patient or anybody that you've had um a difficulty navigating that interaction with them you know maybe it was opposing really just belief you kind of went into it can you um give a specifics well things like that generally comes our way but fortunately for me i lean on the word of god one of my favorite bible texts is first john 5 verse 14. this is the confidence you have in him that if you ask anything according to his will he hear it and if he hear it you know what will what he will do working according to the will of god yes i have faced challenges like that what i do each morning before i leave to work i ask god for his direction for me for the day i will be up many times from about 3 4 a.m in the morning and i'm praying praying for my children praying for my family praying for the church the leadership of the church praying for some specific persons that i have on a prayer list but importantly i always ask god for his direction and yes i do meet with those challenge but generally it just feels like that no no major issue that i should it should cause me to be in conflict with the workplace right and like i said back on the point of us um sometimes meeting obstacles sometimes like you said we were able to overcome or navigate it well even though we might have a bit of difficulty in initial stages but have you at any point throughout your career felt as though you made a mistake perhaps maybe you noticed a decline in your spiritual journey or connection with god or a stagnation in it and how did you navigate those feelings yes at times we do have those experiences we sometime on a mountain top and another time we are on a valley going up again and out on another valley yes those experiences come our way but i have come to the understanding brother thomas that when we learn to trust god and this comes for me through prayer yes there are times when i my mind is off track and there are many issues that come flooding through my my brain even now in this pandemic that we're having and i'm seeing persons dying around me and things that are needed my mind will go off track as to what is to be done but i get back quickly on track when i get on my knees when i get to the when i get to the office and the workplace i remember that before i take on my task god must be my guide and that helps me through the the challenges of each day sir okay so once again i'm passing the question to you i passed it to everybody else um appointed versus anointed can they be exclusive or do they come handy and what's your reasoning anointed and appointed i i believe they go together because even if you are as long as you put your life in the hands of god you're guided by him and you depend on him you may be chosen by the prime minister of jamaica you may be chosen by the minister of health to go and do some work here or there to fulfill some responsibilities as long as god is your leader you will ask persons to put you in places where you will be called upon to represent him in many ways zwaza meal yes as one that i personally believe that i am appointed whether by man or by god as long as god is the leader of my life i believe they go together all right thank you so much for giving your time and giving us a piece of your experience expressing to us how you went about your um experiences and how you overcame sorry the trials that you encounter thank you so much for coming i appreciate you sir all right so we're about to close but before we close i want to squeeze in if i can a game that i had had i had planned so just a brief game something short you guys can just come in the comments and send messages and let us know how you feel so the idea behind the game is to differentiate between appointing an anointing or and we're going to do that by giving you um an act that's performed by a bible character a mere bible character and you'll tell us if that specific act that was carried out by that character was uh off guard if it was appointed if it was a part of their anointing or it was neither or both right um just to repeat so i'll give you um some bible characters and you will tell me if this action that this bible character performed was an appointing an anointing or both or none at all right so i'll start with um the first one and that's nehemiah um does anybody know the story of nehemiah so nehemiah when he was after the fall of our destruction sorry of the templar jerusalem he went back to rebuild the walls but he was met with a lot of opposition so he equipped builders and deter and was determined really to get the job done would you say nehemiah was appointed and anointed just appointed or just anointed or neither sound off in the comments let me see if i can go to youtube and see what's happening all right all right in the meantime i'll move on and say eli and sons that's our next story eli um eli raised somewhere to be one of the greatest prophets would you say that aksan was um his appointment was he anointed to do this and we know that eli was also a priest so but specifically him being able to raise some will um to become a prophet is that appointing anointing both or neither and his sons where they we know that um he wasn't the best at parenting his sons um would you say that his sons were anointed and did they have an appointment to do something but they didn't fulfill it and um were they neither the next bible character we have is aaron but you guys in the comments you can just put the name or the character you're referring to and whether that character is appointed or anything so i can differentiate between two all right so shabbat says taji says both both of um which one let's all right both both appointed all right so next character so we said aaron right so aaron was compelled um he allowed the people to get into his ear and rather than listening to god and he built a calf an idol um we know that aaron was um appointed and maybe even anointed um but this act was it a part of his appointment was it neither was it both somewhere elbow let's say in the comments all right uh judas is the next bible character this betrayal of jesus but he was also a disciple we know that judas his betrayal was he appointed was he anointed or was he both or neither iran appointed somebody says iran neither um appointed under anointed says um sister gil philia and aaron sister grant says neither iran neither uh all right and the last a bible character is david david killing goliath sometimes uh when you hear the idea of killing it it might sound as if you know god would want to kill it and it's right there in the in the in his law in the ten commandments killing david is was david appointed to do this was he anointed um was he both was he neither judas neither is judas neither david both judas neither and one last david again um was david appointed to build a temple that's kind of a trick question we know he wanted to building the temple was he appointed to do this was he anointed today this was he neither because he knew that he wanted to be the temple but this wasn't done by him all right david both i'm guessing david is neither for the building the temple um one if it was not appointed all right all right you guys david know not to build the temple right um neither david all right so you guys can continue in the comments meanwhile i close off today's a y service so thank you guys for coming and tuning in and keeping it interactive in the chat so we've come to the end of our ay service i want to take this chance to thank each and everyone who participated in the service as we ponder on each person's responses and experiences we must thank god for the work that he has been doing in us as men and give glory to god to him that we are still in the land of living and that he has offered us more opportunities to go and to carry forth the great commission the desire of ages page 651 by lng white reminds us that jesus the servant of all came to be the servant of all and because he ministered to all he will again be served and honored by all and those who would partake of his divine attributes and share with him the joy of seeing souls redeemed must follow his example of unselfish ministry we also must remember that we need not question whether or not we indeed have been appointed by god as god's as god church or god's church sorry we are his appointed agency here on earth romans 8 verse 29 29-36 for whom he did for no he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son that he might be the firstborn among many brethren 30 more over whom he did predestinate them he also called and whom he called them he also justified and whom he justified then he glorified men god is calling us from self calling us from the things of the earth to himself from sin and vanity to grace and holiness he will equip us with the resources we need to carry forth his work it is my prayer that all the words that the holy spirit has spoken to us through the servants will bring us to both the will of god and be fruitful in all our endeavors let me say thank you to the holy spirit for guiding us to the truth that is in jesus christ let me wish you a blessed week which is ahead of us as we continue in our various appointments continue to seek out those opportunities to share christ wherever we are and that was a piece put together by jovi who wasn't aimed to be here because he had to fulfill his appointment all right let us pray loving father we come before you once more at the end of this ay service to thank you thank you for giving us the ability to communicate with each other to have a dialogue and a discussion and for it to be fruitful i pray that somebody may have gained something from this and that some of the characteristics that were brought across and actions that we will start or continue to um employ them in our everyday life so that we might be make a positive impact on your people and that we may be remembered and that your legacy be and your memory and your love be carried throughout generations we ask that you teach us patience help us to maintain a good attitude help us to show all these through our actions and not just through our words dear lord continue to bless us and keep us and help us to always rely on you and to remember that you are always there for us and that we can come to you and pray to you at any time thank you once again for all these blessings and ask that uh in the coming week that you will continue to bless us and keep us and guide us and to help us to stay steer us in the right path i pray in jesus name amen thank you once again everyone for coming [Music] [Music] that's enough [Music] [Music] that's enough for me to know well i do not know [Music] [Music] i do not [Music] that's enough for me to know [Music] that's enough that's enough for me that's enough that's enough for me [Music] he will welcome me then [Music] [Music] nobody is [Music] that's enough for me [Music] wow all right just please stay for this first and for those who might have left just let them know if you know anybody that has left let them just give them a notification send them and tell them that to come back from responsibilities good evening good evening everyone what a day it has been anointed and appointed by god surely we have been blessed and as we come now to the close of another sabbath day i seek to encourage us as we go forward i want us to be assured that despite whatever may happen to us that god is still on our side you know there has been turmoil all around us there has been grief there has been the pandemic that is no uh having the entire world in a group but i want us to know that despite all of what is happening better days are ahead you might be saying to yourself what is it that ella williams is talking about but i am assuring each and every one of us that better days are ahead boy ahead with me father in heaven at this time i just ask that you speak a word to our hearts may your holy spirit lord uh open our mind as we receive a word from you in jesus name turn with me in your bibles to uh first corinthians uh chapter two and verse nine where the bible says but as it is written i have not seen nor hear heard neither have entered into the heart of man the things which god had prepared for them that love him yes my brothers and sisters no matter what you're going through better days are ahead the bible has assured us that one day not far from now that jesus will come and indeed we will see a better day and so we have this hope that burns within us whoa of the coming of the lord so cry if you lost and all that affect us in this life what i'm saying that better days are coming and so in revelation chapter 21 reading from verse two it says i and i john saw the holy city the new jerusalem coming down from god out of heaven prepared as a bride a dawn for her husband and i heard a great voice of of heaven saying behold the tabernacle of god is with men and he shall dwell with them and they shall be his people praise god and god himself shall be with them and be their god this is the promise of scripture that one day jesus will come again and it further uh states that and god shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death neither sorrow nor crying neither shall there be any more pain for the former things are passed away praise god the former things are passed away a better day is coming brothers and sisters and he that sat upon a throne he says behold i make all things new what a promise brothers and sisters a better day is coming jesus will make all things new hallelujah are you happy today that whatever is happening in your life is just for a while it won't last forever in psalm 30 and verse 5 it says that weeping may endure for a night but praise god joy comes in the morning i'm saying to us a better day is coming morning represents a new day and so i live with you this evening the word of god that says that one day not far from now jesus will come and he will make all things new it is my prayer that each of us as we have gone through today where we were led to understand that we are appointed by god and we are anointed to go and to declare his words so let us remain faithful let us continue trusting god let us continue to lean on his everlasting eyes so when that new day shall come that we too may be a part of god's kingdom may this be our experience as we go into this new week week that no doubt will have its own challenges but i want us to know that with god all things are possible bow your heads with me as we pray gracious god and our father we thank you for have carried us through another sabbath day lord we thank you for your goodness to us we thank you for the blessings of the sabbath we thank you lord for the assurance that you have given us that a better day is coming one that we will spend eternity with you where there will be no more crying where there will be no more sorrow and where there will be no more death lord we ate soon for that day to come we longed for that day lord when we will be with you we ask now that you keep us faithful lord help us to continue to trust you and to take you at your words so that at last when you shall come that all of us together may go home to live and to reign with you throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity thank you for hearing and thank you for answering these operas and we say thanks in jesus name amen and amen god bless you everybody do have a wonderful week [Music] if you want to know where i'm going where i'm going [Music] where i'm going sooner [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] i can take the pain i can take the [Music] this guy gives me [Music] face to face [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] be with my lord [Music] i'm gone [Music] [Music] i'm [Music] [Music] wherever i'm going where i'm going [Music] you
