in this video we find the source of our leaky bilge and then we get off the dock as we start heading back to puerto rico to put the boat away for hurricane season and we stop in the beautiful coolabrita i'm bobby and welcome to sailing doodles our patrons get exclusive access early access and ad-free videos in the previous video we welcomed jenny on board and then we left st martin on a 100 mile open ocean sale to st thomas on our way to puerto rico well good morning but this is a little more serious than i thought because there's at least is there's more water down here than there was yesterday when i checked it so water is still coming in the boat from somewhere you can see there's about an inch of water right here it's all in the rest of the bilge here i've got to find where this water is coming in i got the bilge pump back on here uh pumping out the water because i was going to rewire the bilge line today so i evidently need to do that asap is rewiring all the bilges make sure they're working i had them working before i don't know why it's tripping off but uh i gotta rewire this to make sure it keeps the water out then i gotta find where the water is coming in from so i've got jenny in there working all right so she's pumping the rest of the water out of the bilge uh and i'm going to see if i can track down where exactly i have an idea where the water is coming in from i think it's through one of the forward builds i think it's just coming in i don't know i've got to locate to figure out why that's coming in and then got to rewire everything so that even if it does come in the bilge pumps push it out so gotta figure all this stuff out i'm gonna go ahead and top off the oils and then rewire that bilge pump can't find any evidence of where water is coming in how much of it do you use i just used half of one of these you know i mean it ran for since i last put oil in it probably 10 or 12 hours so you know these things use a bit of oil i just got to figure this out real quick i'm just tracing all the wiring back to where it's going it uh it's a bit of a rat's nest down here so it's got a high water alarm that definitely is not working because it never came on and then this build shop obviously isn't working i don't know what breaker they're on or anything all right so [Applause] jenny turned the circuit breaker back on and i used my multimeter to test the power and the power is good to it and it stayed on it didn't trip off so that believes leaves me to believe that there was a short somewhere in this rat's nest of extra wiring so i just cut all that out and uh i'm gonna rewire it and then we'll try it again make sure it works there's definitely water i mean it's maybe half an inch higher than it was before maybe it may be an inch higher so there's water coming in from somewhere we're gonna have to just dry out all the villages and then figure out which one's getting wet and where it's coming from all right so we got the bilge pump working it's working on the float switch the circuit breaker's not popping this is definitely still filling up you can see water slowly trickling in right there so we got to figure out where that's coming from it's either coming from forward back or aft forward so we're going to dry out this aft build real dry and see if that's filling up or not the starboard rudder is you know it comes up through and it's it's leaking it's just seeping from there this is the post that goes down to the runner obviously that little uh bearings in there so that's one of those things that it's gonna have to come out of the water to fix so i mean we're planning to haul out in eight days anyway so uh i think it's good timing for a haul out because i have to haul out and they're gonna have to drop that rudder repack the bearings and everything in there all right now that we got kind of the build situation figured out we're gonna go ahead and get off the dock rather than pay for another night dockage plus it's nicer where we're going what do you think it's one of your favorite places water islands yeah going back the wind is pushing us off the dock so it should be pretty easy to get off of here so uh we got a um dock worker going to help us we'll get off the dock at that line so she's going to get our stern line we got a guy up here going to get our bow line they're going to let go at the same time we'll get off the dock because it's pushing us that way made it i thought we got stranded not going very far today just a couple miles or not even maybe a mile over to water island gonna this is going through charlotte molly here this anchorage is not nearly as busy as it normally is it's technically in beginning of her two weeks to just over two weeks into hurricane season depending on which insurance company you're talking about so a lot of boats are already gone pretty cool it's a bit narrow through here uh i mean it's only like i don't know 50 60 feet wide this was man-made because all this water used to get really stagnant in here and so the bay would just get nasty so they cut this channel in here one to make it easier to go through number two uh it lets current go through the bay so now that water doesn't get stagnant and nasty [Music] yeah it's always something with the boat man i mean like so we get here i've run the main generator but it's loud in there i always like to run the aft generator so i'm going to start it and of course it wouldn't start and so i'm checking everything out i mean it's it's not even attempting to start so it's got to be electrical so i check the battery voltage on the on the main battery to start and it's like 11 volts somehow the battery charger wasn't getting power and so the plug that's hooked up to it wasn't getting power so i've got an extension cord from there running under here and charging up the start battery for the generator here we'll see you know hopefully it can get enough charge to start later on all right it's one of your favorite places you ready to go i am you bet it all right let's do it let's just keep track of that delirious we haven't had food all day it's like it's like 1 30. we've been working on the boat like all day yeah it's a little bit of an unlucky day for boat maintenance i figured out what's going on with that uh afta battery so i don't think the battery charger was working like that plug was working at all it was just charging the battery from the generator well there's some outdoor lights that are powered from that battery that i left on for like three days which i think it's kind of anyway so that was the problem so now i've got the battery charger plugged in and charging the battery so hopefully that's what the deal is don't fall in it's a that's a hatch you don't want to fall into yeah [Music] [Music] i'm trying to fix what is broken cause my time is [Music] little subdued over here compared to st martin st martin it was a big party everywhere they weren't requiring masks when you're walking around a lot here they require masks when you walk around do anything really uh it's a little more subdued like nobody's really kind of missed it already there but good times you can see we got the dinghy we got a stern bow anchor here and a stern anchor back out there just to keep it in the surf and washing up on shore washing away whatever so not not a bad spot for it though it's really pretty bay though honeymoon honeymoon beach on water island there's a lot of honeymoon beaches around here all right we bought a bucket we're gonna go hang out in the water by the little floating bar and hang out i'm gonna drop you guys off the dinghy though all right [Music] should have brought the gopro but i brought this camera so i'm not taking you the nice camera over there so you're gonna hang out in the dinghy while we go drink beer at the uh pool bar sorry for the ocean bar all righty the sun's finally out yeah we didn't get the footage when we got rained on it was like pelting pelting our backs with cold water it's very cold rain so yeah we had a good time on the beach we got a little cold just a bit i mean the water was warm so we were there but generator the battery is still charging but uh it's okay i think it's kind of like uh netflix and chill time for a little bit and then i forgot i do have a tube no way i do we should uh i bought a tube yeah we should do that sometime we'll uh we'll make over to st john yeah yeah that would be a good place yeah just you can just swim right up and get up on there all right cool no here if you want to really if you want to really do it you got to jump off the top yeah that's true all right it is like a rite of passage on the boat all right she's going to make me jump with her to write a passage i guess we go up the really far top if you want she's already nervous no nervous what i remember yeah you don't want a wedgie okay so we just jump off i don't it doesn't look like there's too much currency probably all right but if there is you grab the diggy all right sounds good held it and then bobby was like don't hold your nose bikini came off so i don't know if that happened if you saw that or not i didn't see it [Applause] [Music] how'd you sleep better yeah not too bad today it happens it's good when you don't drink like a bottle of wine yeah that's always helpful but uh all right we had a good time in the virgin islands here how are it was good to be back for you huh yeah it was nice it's like out almost a year since i last been here so it's uh good returns all right well it's time to get moving uh today we're going to coolabrito it's about 25 miles uh just spend a couple nights there uh and then over to puerto rico itself and uh yeah put the boat away for the season we brush up our spanish yeah i need to practice that so all right let's warm up some engines and get going here [Music] feeling in my bones i can feel [Applause] [Music] the us virgin islands is a beautiful place with pristine beaches and gorgeous water in the past year and a half we've been there a lot longer than we had actually planned due to cobit [Music] but it's not a bad place to be stuck [Music] jenny got us off the morning and it was time to head west [Music] [Music] the dark side is quite a sight when she's underway making 11 knots [Music] things turned around didn't ever think they could it's getting that time of year it's a little bit rainy all the time we've got half rain half the sun or half blue skies it's sunny yeah the rain yeah we're raining you guys are getting wet out there in the sailboat though but uh got about 11 miles to go to coolabrita so we got about an hour to go nice it's just we're just hitting it like the breeze yep it's nice nice easy sail today it was a short and straight hop from the us virgin islands to coolabrita all right we got st thomas we're saying goodbye to and saying hello to kulebra fulabrito right there nice day for him [Music] so [Music] coolabrita is definitely in my top five for beautiful beach and beautiful water [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] we've got it she already jumped in the water i forgot to grab the camera to film her so she swam the uh about our stern line out dropped it in the water we got it out there i am going to uh now that we got the stern anchor a bow anchor set with the uh with the bridle then i'm gonna back into this we're gonna pull this line in and you tell me when that bridle goes tight [Music] [Music] it's a pretty nice backyard what do you think loving it ah just living the life good neighbors good backyard can't beat it i mean the color the water is insane yeah it's nice although i need another anchor to put out because the wind keeps shifting us back and forth i need to anchor on both sides but oh well i don't want to have to i end up gave giving away my other aluminum one i shouldn't have should have kept it so that we have two aluminum ones to swim out but oh well what you're up to ah well i really need we need really need two stern anchors out here and i don't have another one that's easily accessible like i have a big heavy one so i pulled the two anchors off the dinghy connected them to one line and i'm going to try to put another one off the shirt and see how that does hopefully uh bobby's in the water ah we're already swinging back [Music] all right we're kind of swinging around on our own that's good that's what i wanted let's see i don't know how well that's gonna work but we'll see yeah i mean you got out there pretty easily [Music] nice we'll see how well that works i don't know i mean because i just it's two small anchors but i have them together so i don't know maybe they'll yeah i mean they caught on the dirt uh in the sand right yeah okay so now we have a line going out that direction and a line out that direction and it should hold us from swinging with the wind so much so that we stay like bow into the waves there's not much of a swell but it's a little more comfortable you're going up and down on instead of just light roll plus i don't know looks cooler thank you for watching that last video i just wanted to give a quick update uh for you guys this is the kind of content that our patron gets extra videos uh so if you would like to see more of these you can go to patreon.comdoodles and sign up and you get more of these kind of videos uh basically it's just kind of updates on what's going on in real time and so i thought i would do one uh in a normal video to give you guys a taste of what it is like to be a patron um so if you've been keeping up with instagram you know that we went to belize and got a charter catamaran there for two weeks it was a lot of fun had a really good crew for that megan came back from that one and then we had a couple new people join uh nieves is from spain and her and uh gigi geraldine um is also from spain geraldine is going to be on the show uh more in the future uh she just brought her friend nieves along for uh for uh this one trip uh and then megan of course when i went back to south carolina she's getting married later this month so congratulations to her um but we had a lot of fun down in belize uh we got a lagoon 421 those videos will be coming out we have one more video before uh before putting my boat away for this hurricane season and that'll be out uh well sometime later this week um so you'll have that one and then after that it will be the belize videos so looking forward to those coming out they were a lot of fun we had a really good time the next trip actually is thailand i gotta jump through some hoops to get there um but uh with my connections there in thailand we've got a couple things going on we're gonna get a boat and cruise a catamaran and cruise around in thailand plus there's a couple other things that i'm gonna be filming there geraldine's coming back for that one we also have one new crew member uh taz so uh you'll meet her uh at that point as well uh and we should have a lot of fun kind of the real deal with going to thailand is that you we've got to quarant not quarantine but we got you can only fly into phuket and uh it's a two week um basically you can go anywhere in phuket but you can't leave phuket for two weeks and you have to be vaccinated so we're all vaccinated and we go spend two weeks in phuket but part of what we're going to be filming is in phuket so really that time is not too bad and the hotels are incredibly cheap uh we're talking a thousand dollars for two weeks at a five-star resort on the beach so i mean you know it's not bad um so doing that and then gonna be planning to go to the annapolis boat show and then who knows after that get back to my splash date for my boat is october 27th and we'll be headed back to the caribbean currently i'm actually in colorado i have a triathlon tomorrow i've been training pretty hard for the last couple week couple months rather uh for it and i've got my triathlon bike pretty excited about it cereal p5 and um should be a good time i used to be really into triathlon like i trained a lot like 15 hours a week or more 20 hours a week that was five or six years ago when i was still a pilot and uh well i'm trying to get back into it uh obviously being on a boat has some challenges uh but um i am going to bring a bike back down to my boat when i launch it again and probably get one of those uh like indoor trainers for it um and then uh you know if the weather's nice or it's convenient take the bike out on the island but so if you're not a patron you can see more of these kind of patron only videos by joining our patreon go to patreon.com sailingdoodles and our patrons thank you so much for uh your support
