I love rock climbing and pole! I do pole more often though. I love how both aren’t boring ways to workout. This was a really interesting video! I wish I could do a flag pole as easily as that dude could though lol!

Yay! I picked up pole because I foolishly moved to a location with poor rock climbing :( Doesn't feel exactly translatable but I had decent strength. The more 'dance' components have been difficult but the most fun to master. I'm so glad I picked it up.

That was so cool - I like that they were more respectful than the usual participants in "XYZ Tries Pole Dancing!" videos and appreciative of the difficulty of pole, especially with some of those spin moves. They had such great enthusiasm and Sam Star was an excellent choice for instructor!

That was so fun! Thanks for sharing this.

It is also an interesting look into how people approach new things. The perfectionist really got into his own head and struggled more. I think people that seemed to be having fun with it did better.

I really think that they could have done better in the climb. They totally skipped the explanation in how to hold with your legs. Also I envy how men can just do the armbanner/half flag so easily

I recently went rock climbing on a cruise for the first time since starting pole. I had only climbed maybe twice before and was always really frustrated because I thought I had a lot of upper body and grip strength from lifting, but could never get anywhere with climbing. After 6 months of pole, I made it all the way up a 6-story climbing wall easily. Some of the skills definitely transfer!

There is a lack of female climbers in this video. Also, as a rock climber primarily, I recommend that ya'll try climbing sometime. The skills don't necessarily cross over and can actually support each other well.

so sexy [Music] yeah so I can't do that yet hi I'm Sam I've been pull dancing for 16 years I am a professional pole dancer I compete a judge and I work here at body and pole I'm excited to teach you guys and kind of see what we can do today I know that rock climbers have a lot of upper-body strength and grip strength but it's a little different to grip with fingers and group on the pole polishing la pole we're gonna learn how to do a basic climb so what we're gonna try to view is a squat basically up and then switch the hands so starting point is here you're gonna squat upwards the forearm grip switches and up on your way down you can just hold on let the grip kind of ease out a little bit so give that a try yep and then bring your knees up towards your elbow yep squeeze the knees switch so keep the forearm elbow cross yep push it back into the knee and then up so slippery it's a different finger strength I just find it pretty challenging to get my feet off the ground and I don't know how I'm going to get up this thing and then slide it back down so I want to teach you guys a spin combo that will probably mess with your brains a little bit because it loops and it repeats this is a dip turn tray table pirouette and 1/2 a fan kick and a back step around spin of course the first movement is spin combo is gonna be a dip turn so this is a dip turn this is usually like kind of the most basic first spin but a lot of people learn so reaching up inside leg is closed outside like it's kind of pulling you around and then replace one foot with the other when you come around with this first leg you're coming all the way over like leaning out on it try to stay upright I have not pulll danced before ever in my life to my recollection I think the hardest part about trying something new is getting over the fear of it and just doing the thing it's the same in climbing like if you come across a move that you just don't know the fear of failing is this huge impediment we just need to get over that move 1 we have it the second move RS then combo is a tray table pirouette so the dip with the tray table pirouette so you're gonna take that dip stay on the left leg tray table your left hand slide it up above your head keep rotating into your armpit and then step right leg back okay you lost me I haven't tried pole dancing but I've always been fascinated with the people that can't hold it so your left hip is in the POE that's I think maybe yes we could be using the same muscle groups but it's just a different technique keep going keep going left armpit step back this doesn't and someone tell you this is going to be sexy though that impression right now I see myself as a negative zero and pole dancing climbing up to a zero keep turning keep turning keep turning keep turning Arvid it's very intimidating it really is the third move of ours thing combo is a fan kick so inside arm is gonna be the lower arm switch your arms out side arm is gonna be the higher arm the inside leg is gonna kick the other one follows pole dancing is is awesome mixture of art and body movement in a way that's always been super impressive to me then like doing the fan kick I just feel like not graceful like my body's not doing what I want it to do something that might help when you're doing say a fan kick your inside arm is gonna be the lower arm your outside arm is gonna be the higher your inside leg goes first I've never pull dance before or sober just maybe in a club when I was drunk do you kind of feel how now it starts to propel your movement yeah once it clicks it feels so good blasting part by Sting combo is a back step around and spin so from here with the last part of the mood the top hand is gonna go into a cup grip which is a thumb down with your thumb on the same side as your fingers so watch it once I'm gonna come up come up the top hand is gonna switch I'm gonna keep going in that direction to open my body away outside leg is gonna cross I'm gonna switch hands to the other side yeah maybe ya know and then boomerang yourself to the other side what again forever on a loop repeating I'm a perfectionist and I'm really really sucking right now my brain is just backwards dude the idea is you want to make really hard things look super easy it's the same with rock climbing like you do the easy route first and it's a struggle and then as you keep doing it you start getting better at it and then you can start doing harder routes it takes time and repetitive muscle memory in practice in order to make something that you haven't done before look easy and graceful it's not easy but it can be a skill that you can develop I got it switch around something like that major success yeah it was really hard just challenging super fun the hardest part of trying something new is the initial try and once you get over that first try you're like okay this wasn't that bad there were moments when I was coming around the pole when I wasn't even thinking about what I was doing I was just like oh I'm gonna switch to this and and it just kind of made sense rock climbing is vastly different from this I feel like I've definitely reading myself a solid zero so I give myself her for you guys yeah great so I'm just gonna go with the solid nine I would write myself probably a three but enthusiasm definitely two six I'm gonna give myself like a seven or an eight definitely some things that I could have improved on or fixed but I felt pretty good I think today went really awesome actually I was concerned that they might not be able to pick skills up very quickly but they did really well that's nuts now you just show it off [Applause]
