progress and how we're moving forward but we want to remind you that we're doing this as a church and as a church family whatever you pledge is not about the money it's really about your commitment and your promise and what you're believing that god's going to do in your life i don't know if you got to see the testimony that my wife shared with us with the church but we have already seen multiple blessings in our life just for the commitment and our faithfulness now i know that i can't out give god but if you're not sure why don't you try it there is scripture that says prove me on this put god to the test see if god is not able to show up and show out anybody here have seen god's faithful hand move in mighty ways in their life amen i'm going to have brother lord come up give us some information praise the lord everybody amen i'm telling you god is faithful uh one thing we didn't mention a couple of things that we want to now our preaching and youth classes have been a job offer for a position that paid three times what i make don't get excited but i had to move to north carolina so i turned it down and that's good yeah i mean i i what we do know is we're in the will of god here two weeks later i had a recruiter call me from england about a company in california that wanted to hire somebody in texas anyways i start the job tomorrow and uh [Applause] yeah you know yeah that's right i'm excited too you cannot out give god he's always right on time when you think it's too late just wait a little longer because jesus is on the way amen god is good and this job will pay at least as much as that one in the carolinas did so thank the lord for that sister mckee would you like to talk to us about zion would you please well i think we've talked about zion enough but i actually have an unscheduled song that i feel to sing if that's all right although we love to celebrate one another's victories and everything sometimes it's hard to do that when you're hurting or you may feel forgotten or i don't know going through a season of grief or pain and i feel like the lord just wanted me to tell somebody that he sees you and that you don't have to put on a front for him and it's okay to cry in front of him to let him see your tears he'll never shame you he'll never abandon you he wants just to love you he wants to be the place you run to and not from that his arms are wide open and his purpose his mission is for you to know his love unconditional love not the love that you find here on earth but the love of god hallelujah he wants you to know that he heals the brokenhearted [Music] he remembers you though you feel forgotten he gives beauty for the ashes he can give you peace when you don't have the strength to ask him that's what jesus does that's what jesus does so let him hold you [Music] let him breathe on you you are not a mistake to not be afraid let jesus love you let him see you cry can you hear him whisper everything is gonna be all right [Music] when you think nobody understands jesus does jesus does and when you need someone to just hold your hand that's what jesus does that's what jesus does [Music] [Music] let jesus love you let him [Music] is [Laughter] that's what he does that's what jesus does that's what jesus does that's what jesus does [Music] jesus does that's [Music] that's what jesus does oh he's come to heal [Music] he wants [Music] hallelujah why don't we stand to our feet let's give him praise god is worthy hallelujah hallelujah we love you lord we thank you lord amen i'm glad that's my testimony i know it's many of yours that we've discovered in those moments of pain and torment that god can step into those those very difficult times and be a light and strength to us i'm very thankful for that it's good to see everyone here this morning to all of our guests that are with us today my name is rob mckee and i'm the senior pastor here at the pentecostals we're thrilled to have each of you here with you will have already decided that we're the church for you but if you're still on the fence uh you're you haven't decided we encourage you to do what we call stick six and in six services you'll get a good picture of whether or not we're the church for you it really is important the the church congregation that you're a part of and um and in six services you'll get a picture of our doctrine our core beliefs and what we're all about and you'll be able to make an educated decision we're thrilled that you're with us this morning and in the house of the lord it's just great day to be here and uh i'm going to be preaching the word of the lord and i thank the lord for that song from my beautiful wife and we're just thrilled that you're with us today amen i also want to mention it's great to have for the jonathan jenkins brother jonathan jenkins where are you oh okay and it says you're a guest of um [Music] is it jaylen wilson i appreciate sister jalen being a reaching out in our outreach ministry and um it's good to have you here today amen i hope you'll come back and visit i'm teasing they're dating uh and so if you have any questions about that feel free to ask them after church uh i'm just picking on them all right amen thank god for his word if you have your bibles turn with me to the gospel of john john chapter 6 amen brother jonathan you're going to be here tonight all right i want you to get up and testify tonight all right okay amen [Music] he is a a student at texas bible college alone sister jaylen glad that he's here today and to all of our other guests so thankful that you're with us i promise i would never embarrass anybody else like that so don't worry i it's just a hand a handful of selected people all right john 6 and verse number one and i will i tell you what before we read the text i want us to sing this course together i don't want to get ahead of myself there's a familiar song to all of us but i know it may be new to you but we'll have the words on the screen it's just a sort of a prayer set to song and so if you have your bible you're reading it on your you know tablet or maybe you have a your bible if you could just take your bible or your phone or however you're reading scripture and i just want you to hold it up to your heart and uh we're going to sing this course together words will be on the screen speak to me i'm ready the word of god speak to me i'm ready to [Music] speak the way the word of god speaks [Music] [Music] word of god speak to me reading this morning from the gospel of john chapter number 6 john 6 beginning in verse number 1. somebody say i've got it if you got it all right if you don't have it just fake it all right here we go after these things jesus went over the sea of galilee which is the sea of tiberias and a great multitude followed him because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were dis diseased and jesus went up into a mountain there he sat with his disciples and the passover a feast of the jews was nine when jesus lift then lifted up his eyes and saw a great company come to him he saith unto philip whence shall we buy bread that these may eat and this he said to prove them somebody say to prove them for he knew himself what he would do so this is a teaching moment for the disciples it's very important a key part of this this miracle is that it's not just to reveal christ because the gospels will reveal who jesus is but they also will give us direction or directives that we need to follow and so he knew what he would do now verse 7 philip answered him 200 penny worth of bread is not sufficient for them that every one of them may take a little one of his disciples andrew simon peter's brother saith unto him there is a lad here which hath five barley loaves that's key five barley loaves and two small fishes but what are they among so many and jesus said make the men sit down now there was much grass in the place so the men sat down in number about 5 000 and jesus took the loaves and when he had given thanks he distributed to his disciples and his disciples to them that were set down likewise of the fishes as much as they would they ate everything that they they wanted to eat and when they were filled they he said unto his disciples gather up the fragments that remain that nothing be lost therefore they gathered them together and filled 12 baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which remained over and above unto them that had eaten then those men when they had seen the miracle that jesus did said this is of a truth that prophet somebody say that prophet not a prophet but that prophet that should come into the world this is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world amen we have for the past several weeks uh several months have been preaching through the miracles of jesus and for those that are new i don't want to repeat everything but just kind of catch you up uh the there were many things that jesus said and did that were not recorded in scripture and um [Music] so what we do have from scripture has uh special i guess importance or relevance to us uh john 21 and 25 tells us that if all that jesus said and did would have been recorded in scripture that the world itself could not contain the books thereof so what is recorded matters and it matters for us today and uh and so we have been going through the what we call the described miracles of jesus any miracle that has some details to it it's not just and jesus healed them all or he healed all who were afflicted so we go through and uh any of the described miracles we have dialogue between jesus and the sick or we hear the history of the person who had the need or maybe jesus just does some other kind of miracle other than he than healing such as walking on the water and we've been looking at what the primary message is from that miracle and it's got to be more than well jesus can heal blind people or and and he can also heal deaf people and oh he can also raise the dead it's there's there's a deeper message to each of these because we already know he does all that okay so that's what we've been doing for the last several weeks and so today we're now focused i think this is miracle 15 and um uh we're we're going to be looking at the miracle of the feeding of the 5 000. now this is a unique miracle okay we're going to pray here in just a moment but this is a unique miracle and it's one of the most significant parts of the gospels in that it's recorded other than other than the resurrection of jesus it is the only miracle of jesus that's recorded in all four of the gospels the gospels were four different viewpoints four different perspectives four different witnesses of the the life and the ministry of jesus and so um this is one of the only ones not one of it's the only one other than the resurrection that's recorded in all four gospels so we're going to be jumping around between each of these it's matthew 14 mark six for those that are writing notes and also luke nine we we've read john six as our text but i'm gonna be taking things from each of these accounts and we're gonna be sort of pulling them all together and seeing what is it that the holy ghost wants us to know from this recorded miracle i believe it's something that will change your life if you will listen god has ministered to me in a very deep fundamental way this week over this particular miracle and so i want to share these things with you lay your bibles down let's pray father i thank you for your word i thank you for every person that's gathered here today i'm asking you lord to minister through what you have given to us in scripture i pray that your word would have an impact in our life god i'm just a man but god with your word in my mouth god lies can be changed i pray that you would speak to us today we need to hear from you and everybody said in jesus name turn around to three people and tell them you look a lot better than i do and you may be seated [Music] you don't have to attend too many services around here to learn that i love history i love american history primarily my favorite i guess season of of history in america is the american revolution but all of it together is has always been fascinating to me and one but today i want to focus a little bit in a different direction and uh i i want us to look at the life of uh one of the greatest leaders in modern history considered by most if you if you were to google the greatest leaders in in the world history his name is usually at the top of the list and i'm talking about winston churchill i believe i've got a picture i can't pull my my pictures up on my phone so yeah there you go winston churchill and he is considered by most to be the savior of democracy and one of the greatest leaders of course in the world but definitely the greatest leader in british history they all will tell you the greatest leader we've ever had the greatest prime minister we've ever had was was a winston churchill and although he's considered great and the greatest british leader what people a lot of people don't know is that winston churchill was half american his mom his mother was jenny jerome and she was an american citizen born in new york city and so you're welcome britain we gave you uh we contributed to uh your greatest leader so they couldn't do it without us still can i guess so that's for all of you british folks that are here this morning just wanna hey so america helped produce your greatest icon so churchill you know was such an incredible man he was uh uh he faced such a daunting task he led britain and the allied powers to victory against the nazis during the second world war his wisdom his character and persistent led britain from the brink of defeat uh all the way to victory in one of the most brutal wars of the 20th century what we can often forget is america wasn't immediately involved in the war we didn't get involved until after the bombing of pearl harbor and uh but but the war world war ii had been going on for some time and america was a little resistant to getting involved we and uh and so it wasn't until our troops were attacked it looked like we were leaning towards getting involved and so um the the japanese bombed our our uh our military bases in japan and of course we immediately declared war but it was um it was during the time before america got involved that britain looked as though it would lose the war it was very a very discouraging time in in world history especially for all of those citizens of the small country that time of britain and although they had a large fingerprint throughout europe and and around the world it was a very small nation and they were they were being continually bombarded by nazi bombing runs and it was uh discouragement depression was sort of the the rule of the day and into this scenario comes the purveyor of all hope that's really what he was he was born in 1874 and he had of course served in the british military before churchill became the prime minister he was a prolific writer some people don't realize this but he was a very gifted writer he would later win the nobel peace prize for his his writing skills he just had this unique gift with putting words together that would inspire the masses and so when he stepped into politics he used his gift of oratory or oratory and he would he would inspire hope and so uh when he became prime minister it was in the height and the right in the middle of the second world war with germany and japan and his long-standing career is probably best remembered for being all about persistence i think i've got another picture of him if you could put that up and there he is examining the troops when he finally took the helm he would become the greatest leader of the 20th century but what a lot of people don't understand about him is he actually served in government for over 40 years before he became prime minister no one thought that churchill would do a good job they uh he was considered just a novelty he's this famous writer that's coming into politics and he's sort of a novelty he's a good writer if you've ever read any of his stuff you know he's really a brilliant writer but as far as a gifted politician i don't know they all had their doubts and so it took him 40 years before he actually reached that place where they they elected him as prime minister nobody believed he could accomplish the job but but quickly when he became leader he became the greatest leader of the 20th century and he was instrumental in working with the united states and russia to defeat the axis powers he helped establish the post-war peace that would lead to lead the western world through one of its greatest periods of prosperity so following the war he continued to lead but churchill's leadership style was so powerful that not only was he inspiration in wartime but he would eventually become elected again as prime minister in 1951 and served through 1955. but historians say that churchill's greatest strength was his ability to speak and and speak hope and and and and life into people who were discouraged when every time he spoke he connected with his audience he connected with the entire nation his life was filled with memorable quotes that leaders use to this day if you when you get home just just google winston churchill quotes and you're going to find page after page of things that winston churchill said that that are they're quoted all the time he authored such legendary phrases and i've used them in preaching before we will never surrender or the iron curtain he and uh he coined the phrase this was their finest hour and uh all of these these legendary quotes that that have been quoted by churchill they all tied into a unique time of history and he would speak during times of calamity i have another picture i don't know if it made it but it's churchill standing among the runs and all the world leaders did it didn't make it if it didn't nope wrong one go back that's not churchill that looks like two fish and so uh similar but anyway uh but but churchill's standing among the ruins and all the world leaders in his cabinet they're standing off a little ways and that's that is it's it's sort of a a powerful picture of what his government represented during his season he he would step into the rubble and he would bring hope out of it he would step into these very challenging dark cloudy times of war when everybody was afraid everybody was was was scared and churchill would step in the middle of it all and he would speak life and he would speak bravery and courage to a nation that was that was paralyzed in fear and he became his history is uh um is recorded that he actually became the first american citizen um who was also a citizen of another country the first time and now we have a lot of people that have dual citizenship today but churchill was the first and he was he was given that honor um honorary a honorary citizen because of his great accomplishments in history and through the war so here's the irony i told you all that to tell you he had this incredible gift to inspire hope but the irony of of churchill's life and his leadership would be that after he served later in his memoirs and and and sort of the the stories that that those closest to him uh would write it it came out that churchill um although he was just had this this incredible gift to encourage others and rally courage and then he would he would turn from the podium walk behind the curtains and and battle with private very severe depression and of course this would this would not come up for years later but depression was a bitter struggle for all of church churchill's life he actually called it the black dog of his existence that he wrestles so much with depression and fear and anxiety but yet it never came across because when he stepped to the podium it seemed as though he was the one that was pulling everybody else out of it but he himself was wrestling in private a lot of historians have have said that they believe that was the success of churchill's leadership that he used his personal his personal battles against manic depression as the fuel to inspire others that he would use that that passion that i've got to get victory in my own life and then he would carry that message of victory out to others and say hey listen you know you can make it what he wasn't telling was i've just i've been preaching this to myself behind the scenes he knew what fear felt like so he challenged it when he recognized it in others his personal victory became the kindling for the inspiration of millions you know too often leaders assume that they have to be perfect to inspire others to be better but god can use our fight god can use our personal struggles and our passion to overcome them as a trigger from ministry to other people don't believe that you've got to get it all together get your stuff together before god can use you sometimes god needs your passion to survive sometimes you can be in the middle of a battle in the middle of a fight and take a message god speaks to you in your night time in your midnight hour and turn around and immediately share it with somebody else and god will work through you amen amen tell somebody besides you you don't have to be perfect just don't give up amen whatever you do don't give up that passion to get up again will transform not only your life but it will transform the life of others first timothy 4 16 the apostle paul wrote to his son in the gospel and said take heed unto thyself and unto the doctrine continue in them for in doing this thou shalt both say thyself and them that hear you amen we've got to fight against the darkness with the doctrine of the word of the lord because doctrine will not only save you but it will save others through you if you listen to it if you take heed to it you can't help anybody but if you will grab the word of the lord and put it in your heart and let that word of god just marinate in your spirit all day long god will save you but he'll use it to save your family if you don't take heed to it you're not going to help anybody you got to get a hold of the word of the lord amen doctrine will deliver when we heed it when we listen to it you know uh i i i occasionally just surfing online and and seeing uh uh preachers or videos of other preachers there's there's this current trend in our culture of preaching thematic messages you've probably seen it uh people will preach 15 weeks on how to have a healthy marriage or or you know 10 weeks on um you know how to how to be a better employer how to be a how to be a successful person in business and and they'll they'll go through all of these themes of how being a good friend or in in but unfortunately uh it seems as though there is a departure from apostolic doctrine just preaching doctrine amen we focus more on self what's what's going to help me i want to know what the word of the lord says about me and how it's going to help me what's the word of god going to do for me how's it going to help my marriage how's it going to help my finances how's the word of god going to help my job how's the word of god going to help my my you know my kids to be respectful we want to know what it's going to do for us it's a very self-centered attitude concerning the word of the lord but paul was telling timothy if you really want you if you really want to be blessed remember that the word of god is profitable for you amen the word of god all scripture is given by inspiration of god and it is profitable for doctrine for reproof for correction for instruction in righteousness amen so it's profitable somebody say it's profitable it's profitable to be instructed in righteousness yes it is it's profitable to be uh given correction from the word of the lord it profits you it is profitable to be reproved or to be tested or feel conviction from the word of the lord it profits you but doctrine also profits you so even though you're studying about the lord and you're studying who god is it looks like it's just teaching it doesn't really have anything to do with me paul was saying that listen when you get into the doctrine it will always profit you it'll change you amen and we have a we have a famine for apostolic doctrine in our world and it and what we really need is to return to a love for what the word of god says if you don't have anything else get a hold of doctrine doctrine will change you amen the oneness of god baptism in jesus name the infilling of the holy ghost it's not just some conciliatory message it's not just some sideline peripheral point when you get into doctrine it'll change your life it'll stir you up it will revive you it'll amen there's power in doctrine there's power in the word of the lord amen so so when you when you hear somebody come to the podium or the the pulpit not the podium this is hallowed i guess we we we've called it the pulpit when you see somebody come to the pulpit and they're they're preaching doctrine don't turn it off and say well it's not applicable oh yes it is you need it it will profit you amen so we have been going for the past several weeks and looking studying the doctrine of the miracles of jesus and so we've come up to this feeding of the five thousand now the great thing about this particular message is that if you notice jesus said this he said remember that little phrase we said we read this he said to prove them for he already knew what he would do in other words part of this miracle is not just revealing jesus because most the miracles of jesus is all about revealing jesus revealing jesus and and when we see jesus for who he really is and uh then then we know how to respond but in this one i mean it's it's a stated dual purpose that not only am i going to reveal myself to you through this miracle but i'm also going to teach you i'm going to prove you i'm going to i'm going to tell you how you ought to act and what you ought to do because i already know what i'm going to do this is about you as well so in this miracle we're going to see two things we're going to see that it reveals jesus and is relevant for our behavior today now paul told the corinthian church and of course he was speaking about the old testament in first corinthians 10 and 17 he said now all these things were written for examples or examples and they're written for our admonition upon whom the ends of the world are come so all the old testament record or the scripture it's it's written down so that we could be changed by the word of the lord amen you might not like like the book of numbers but it's it's written for your admonition it's written so that it will help you upon whom the ends of the world shall come the the most difficult passages of the old testament if it's in the scripture and and this includes the new the principle includes the new that if it's in the word of the lord it's going to help you amen now [Music] so unfortunately uh our world has drifted away from doctrine and and real conviction in doctrine we we we're not you know doctrine isn't really palpable palatable to us today we get most of our our values and core beliefs from 60-second media clips and little bullet points and and we develop a very shallow doctrine that has not been rightly divided we take scriptures out of context and that's what thematic preaching can sometimes do and i tell the preachers we we've got to be careful we got to always put things in context because when you grab a scripture out of context you can make it say anything you want to for example jesus wept all he did was sit around and cry well no we know he did a lot more than that all right but he did weep at that point he did weak but you got to see the context of why he was weeping and where he was and what he was weeping about so this context matters and so that's why i want to set the context of this particular miracle because i think it's powerful and again you may not get anything out well you're going to get something out of it because it's the word but i'm telling you this this really challenged me this week now uh the disciples of jesus have just been sent out uh in ministry and uh they have just returned luke and uh luke 6 and i'm sorry mark 6 and luke 9 are both call them label them apostles for the very first time so up until this point they have never been referred to in scripture as apostles and the reason why they're called apostles is because the word apostle means delegate or uh a messenger so someone that has been sent so jesus for the first time has just sent his disciples out with power and authority to preach in the surrounding villages and cities and they're returning and so they all come back to where jesus is and they are sharing with jesus john said all that they have seen and all that they have taught they're telling jesus man i i laid hands on this guy and he was healed and man this is what i taught this is kind of how i presented my sermon my lesson and this is what i taught in this city and and i changed it up i taught a little bit different in this city this is the text that i used so they're sharing with jesus these stories and uh and in the midst of this we get a picture of what's happening sort of the setting of it all and uh mark 6 says they they uh they told him what they had done and what they had taught now jesus tells them he says i want you to come in and come you yourselves into a desert place the word desert place doesn't mean it was you know the gobi desert uh you know it was actually the word uh desert there is means uninhabited obviously it wasn't a dry climate because here in just a few uh verses you're going to see where jesus commands them to sit down in in the green grass i think mark mark uses the word green grass others say he asked them to sit down on the grass and there was much grass there so it's not don't think of sand it's just a private place it's it's lush it's green and sort of a place where they can rest and jesus tells them i want you to come and i want you to rest a while why did they need to rest a while obviously they were tired we've been out ministering we've been out pouring out ministry to everybody else and jesus you know he either heard their complaint or he saw the need he said come on let's go to a a uninhabited place let's withdraw from people and let's just find a place where we can get alone now i love teaching the word of the lord i love it i love preaching these guys know it you know if i can preach i'm usually going to schedule myself to preach because i love to preach i love to teach the word of the lord but if if after i've preached on a sunday morning everybody said okay we're going over to your house and we're going to sit around your office and we want you to just keep pouring out i think after a while i get probably a little irritated some guys i'm going to have nothing to give you if i don't get into the word for myself there has to be a time of retreat being alone with god i think that's that's that's a common thing for all of us when you pour yourself out at some point you're going to be empty and you need to find a place to renew and strengthen and and kind of get revived and so that's what jesus is doing here he's validating the need for rest for recharging okay he tells them come on let's go to a private place i know you're tired they were weary they were tired and uh and then in in mark 6 31 um in uh and also in well john's gospel it says it's near the time of the passover and then it says and they had no leisure to eat in other words they hadn't had time to eat so not only were they tired they were hungry kind of like most of you today all right just tired and hungry anybody tired and hungry anybody let's go to lubi's come on no i'm just i'm gonna do that all right so the disciples they were tired they were hungry and jesus sends them off into this private place now i i love to to sort of put it all in context mark 6 and 33 says and the people saw them departing and many knew him and ran afoot thither out of all the cities and outwent them and came together unto him and when when and jesus when he came out saw much people and was moved compassion towards them because they were sheep having not having a shepherd and he began to teach them many things now if you read all of these the bible i think it's in john that says and there was much people there it was a lot of people there and of course john says it's happening around the passover now according to josephus around this time there were roughly three million people that were in jerusalem for the time of passover so there were a lot of people that were making a journey from foreign countries to come to jerusalem to celebrate the passover so imagine a a freeway filled with with the travelers and they're all headed one way and on their way here you've got the disciples who have come out all these villages and jesus is saying come on let's let's go find a quiet place but somebody on the road says hey wait a second there's that jesus we've been hearing about he's a teacher but he's also a miracle worker and suddenly there is this rush of people not only on the road but people are hearing about it in the town and everybody's coming out you've got people from around the world that are coming out to hear jesus teach so just as soon as they start pulling the disciples into a quiet place let's get away from the crowd let's take it easy come on guys let's we need to we need a little vacation here and so they they they go to this quiet place and then all of the multitude follow them don't you know that the disciples are getting a little irritated like are you kidding are you kidding me i'm tired here we go again i thought we were done with this and so you know that's that's the setting now when jesus sees them coming he he tells his disciples i want you to give them something to eat give them something to eat and he asked it in in all the four gospels he gives the direction give them something to eat some give a little bit more clarity in exactly how he said it but but that's the statement hey guys i want you to feed them now remember they're tired and they haven't eaten yet and now jesus is telling them go feed somebody else wait a second when do we get a break now i just want to stop and say i believe that god validates times of rest but in this particular story it's as though the lord is saying there are going to be times that you're weak and you're weary and you're hungry and at that moment you just need to suck it up buttercup and go minister anyway you need to you need to don't hold back well i haven't eaten i'm going to go eat for i want to eat and i want to rest sometimes you got to square your shoulders i don't feel like it but i'm going to do it anyway amen remember jesus was our example all i've all i've got is a little bit of energy come on jesus i'm i'm i've just got this much energy left well give that energy to the lord amen give it to the lord now watch you're going to see there's a payday for this but if you you need to give that energy to the lord and and so jesus he tells them go give them something to eat and they said we don't have anything we don't have enough money money is not the answer to everything if god's involved you don't it's not about money amen you just need to get the lord involved in it but he tells them he says listen uh what do you have and they say all we've got is a boy and and a boy's lunch and he has five barley loaves and two fish now barley loaves is significant because they didn't have grocery stores where they could go buy barley bread any time of the year so if they had barley loaves it meant it was it was following barley harvest and this was again you know this really is proof that the bible is true because each of these gospels give these little subtle details that tell you this the time frame of when this happens this is people that get in and study this kind of stuff all the time they say this is proof of the bible being written by four different men who saw the same thing now there's some ideas out there floating around you can find all kinds of garbage on the internet but people say well they all copied it off the gospel of mark they just sort of you know adapted the gospel mark their own little version of it but that's not what happened these were four men who witnessed the the life of jesus and wrote about it okay and so they give these little subtle clues for example one says uh john says that it was uh it was around the time of passover okay then over here in in uh matthew he says and there was there was green grass there another one says there was much grass there another one says and there were many people that were coming by so he sets the stage that lets everybody know passover all the migrants coming in uh there's green grass that means it's around the time of passover time of spring you know kind of around the time what we celebrate easter and all that today so it it it it agrees together and shows us that you can trust the word of the lord that's just a little side piece of candy this morning but you can trust when the bible says something you can trust what it says okay there's no way there's no way you could get these men who wrote these books you know different in different places and and at different seasons of their life and get all the small little details like that to just come together so anyway uh they uh it's it's obviously around the passover and uh they're dealing with this and of course jesus takes these five loaves and two fish and he blessed them and he broke them and he gave them to his disciples and and of course um the the key verse is that in mark 6 and 31 it says and jesus had compassion on them because they were a sheep who had no shepherd everybody say sheep that had no shepherd so we're looking for the key thing in this miracle that we can apply to our lives i'm we're going to get into it now to appreciate the significance of what jesus said right there it was an accident that he said that you've got to look back at hebrew culture and and you go back to deuteronomy 18 verse 17 and 18. god is speaking to moses and he tells moses the lord said unto me they have well spoken that that they have spoken he says verse 18 i will raise them up a prophet somebody say a prophet from among their brother that means he's hebrew from among their brethren like unto thee everybody say just like moses okay so i'm going to raise up this prophet and he's going to be just like you moses and um and and i will put my words in his mouth and he shall speak unto them all that i shall command him deuteronomy 18 of course i'm going to raise up a prophet just like you moses so moses is expecting another prophet to come along that would be like him he's ready for the lord to fulfill his promise he's at the end of his ministry years later he's he's kind of winding down and uh he's been the law giver and and he's passing off the scene and so he he goes to the lord in numbers 27 and 15 and the lord spake it and moses speaking of the lord saying let the lord the god of the spirits of all flesh set a man over the congregation which shall go out before them and which shall be which may go in before them and which may lead them out and which may bring them in that the congregation of the lord shall not be as watch as sheep which have no shepherd amen lord i'm about to step off the scene so that prophet you promised we need him to come along right now i i and we need you to appoint him and that's when the lord says okay here's what we're going to do i want you to uh take joshua the son of nun a man in whom is the spirit not your spirit but the spirit and lay han thine hand upon him setting before eleazar the priest before the congregation give him charge in their sight thou shalt put some somebody say some some of thine honor upon him that all the congregation of the children of israel may be obedient in other words i want you to empower him anoint him deputize him so that the people will follow him now israel already knows god's going to send this prophet so they're looking at joshua saying here he is here's a guy just like moses here's that prophet he's coming along he's going to lead israel but then there there you know there there are some similarities between joshua and jesus but but in deuteronomy 34 and 10 the it says and there arose not a prophet since israel like unto moses whom the lord knew face to face so joshua is leading israel and and the lord speaks it says hey there's not been a prophet yet like moses so joshua is not that prophet okay just stay with me for a minute there's a point to this so israel continues to wait and look for that prophet they're waiting for that prophet to arise and the key thing for them is he's going to be like moses when he shows up he's going to do stuff kind of like moses did it when john the baptist come came and people were coming to him out in the wilderness in john 1 21 the bible says the people were in expectation okay when they came out they came out with expectation they believed okay this might be him look at the crowd look at the people that are following him and they come out to him and they ask john the baptist are you the prophet it was a big deal for israel they were waiting for the prophet that was going to lead them out lead them in tell them the words of the lord and even in the uh discovery of the dead sea scrolls which predate um the birth of christ old testament scrolls that there there are several writings there that are not canonized that deal with this expectation of israel they're waiting for that prophet when is that prophet going to show up of course we know jesus was that prophet he was the one that would be like moses you know moses gave israel manna he gave him bread from heaven jesus is breaking the bread in this moment and he's revealing to uh to israel i am like moses i'm that prophet we know from acts 3 and 22 when peter and john have healed the lame man in the temple and they're taken in by the by the uh uh the priest and they're they're charged and they're asking the questions why how how did you how did you heal this man they began to preach to them and in the midst of their sermon they said for moses truly said unto the fathers a prophet shall the lord your god raise up unto you of your brethren a hebrew like unto me him shall ye hear and all things whatsoever he shall say unto you you want to know how he healed this man it was the prophet the guy that was was was raised up and he's just like moses now you killed him you crucified him but he was he was the prophet they this is the same idea is repeated again in acts 7 and verse 37 when stephen is being charged and and uh as part of his message he refers back to the same thing again and says that uh that uh that this man was just like uh moses he was the prophet and the sanhedrin was challenging him and of course ultimately they martyred him so when the people saw jesus give the bread out in this miracle they remembered what moses did and then those men john 6 and 14 then those men when they had seen the miracle which that jesus did said this is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world this is him this is the prophet we've been waiting on of course the same thing happened again in john chapter 7 and uh verse 38 through 40. what happened there jesus stands up and he says he that is a thirst let him come unto me and drink and he he says he that believeth on me as the scripture hath said out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water he's going to stop here and just say you know we have these little catch phrases in pentecost and we say when you get the holy ghost you're gonna have a river of living water come out of you well that's taking it out of context that's not what the bible actually said jesus was teaching and said let he who is a thirst come unto me and drink and then he steps back into prophecy and says as the scripture has said out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water the living water doesn't come out of your belly it comes out of his belly because if you got thirsty all you'd have to do is go to yourself and drink amen we jesus is the source of the living water amen he is the source that we we reach for [Applause] so when jesus is talking about giving this living water and he's saying i've got water to drink that once you drink of this you'll never thirst again verse john 7 and 40. and many of the people therefore when they heard this saying said of a truth this is the prophet not a prophet but the prophet this is the one we've been waiting on why because moses smote a rock he spoke to a rock and or he smote a rock when he should have spoke to it he smote a rock and he provided water for the people when they were thirsty and here's this guy coming along and he's acting just like moses he's bringing bread and multiplying it and now he's bringing water he is just like moses amen somebody say he's just like moses but there is another part to this amen hebrews 3 and verse number hebrews 3 and verse 1 wherefore holy brother and partakers of the heavenly calling consider the apostle and high priest of our profession jesus christ who was faithful to him that appointed him as also moses was faithful in all of his house for this man was counted worthy of more glory than moses so what hebrews is writing about is yes he is like moses yes there's a lot of tights and shadows that you can find in the life of moses and and yes he's he's he's very similar in that he's providing bread he's given living water that he spends time in egypt he he's got 40 years in the wilderness jesus spends 40 days in the wilderness there's a lot of things you can pull from the life of moses and apply them to the testimony in the life of jesus but this man is worthy of more glory because he is better than than moses was what he's doing is better than moses everything he does is is better than moses yes he smote a rock and water flowed out so they could quench their thirst but the kind of water that this jesus has given is living water that once you drink of this water you will never thirst again what jesus is is better what jesus does is better he is better than moses somebody say he's better than moses amen so what jesus is like moses but he is better than moses he is better than moses now uh in in matthew 17 uh and and uh there's this powerful it's very strange event that happens on mount transfiguration and here you have jesus marching up and he's meeting with moses and he also meets with elijah both moses and elijah have have men that have seceded them elisha and of course joshua and so in this this discourse um jesus is revealing that what these men did i'm gonna do something better remember uh eli or moses uh he brought the children of israel out of bondage joshua brought the children of israel into the promised land amen moses had moments of weakness and and fault in his life you can't find that in the life of joshua you're going to find continual miracles and a man of righteousness elijah he was a great prophet he performed many miracles elijah comes along and performs twice the miracle so the theme of his meeting on trump mount transfiguration is these men were great but i'm going to do something greater i'm continuing i'm going to double anything that they did in other words i'm going to blow your mind you think these guys are great you haven't seen jesus yet amen that's that's the whole message of the theme of of the life of jesus christ as a matter of fact in john 6 and 30 they asked the question are you greater than moses amen now watch jesus is greater than moses he's like moses but he's greater than moses everything he does is greater it's better now i want you to hear this when i would read that story honestly i would love to have seen the bread fall down from heaven wouldn't that been cool bread just magically appear in the morning this is amazing what an incredible miracle now when when that 5 000 men which was much more than 5 000 in the crowd because that was just the men it didn't include the women or the children these and this massive crowd is sitting around the feet of jesus and he's handing out bread and they said it's like it's like just like moses what jesus is doing is he's taking something that they had and he's handing it out and passing it out he's multiplying it let's be honest which one would you consider a greatest miracle at first glance the the one where there's bread falling out of heaven otherwise i mean other than than just multiplying it handing out bread but the message i believe is this because jesus is better than moses because everything that he did is better than moses remember even the law itself which this applies to that that the law itself it was good it was our schoolmaster pointing us to christ that that our response to the goodness of the lord jesus didn't come to do away with the law he came to fulfill the law so everything that the law said in type and shadow jesus came to fulfill very important point so all of the ceremonial law of that was a type and shadow the apostle paul said all of that is in type and shadow but jesus came to give us the reality of it you read through the whole book of hebrews i know i've mentioned this before but the whole book of hebrews is all about symbolism versus the substance that what you see in in in the the ceremonies of judaism is not as good as what you get in the gospel of the kingdom all of that was just pointing towards this god having provided some better thing for us that they without us should not be made perfect hebrews chapter 11. so this is good this is much better watch if if this is good and this is much better then then our response our response to this should nowhere be more than our response to the better that the devotion to the law it shouldn't be less than our devotion to what the lord has brought how many would agree with that if this is better we ought to be more devoted to this than any pharisee was devoted to the law the ceremonial law has been fulfilled so the sabbath day and each of the ceremonies of feast and the sacrifice all of that was fulfilled in jesus christ amen but we ought to be more committed to the truth of the new testament gospel than any pharisee was committed to obeying the old tenets of ceremonial law jesus even said this in matthew 5 and 20 he said except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and the pharisees you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven why because we have got something that's so much better amen moses was good but what i'm giving you in the new testament is so much better yeah elijah he performed some miracles i'm going to do twice as much moses he brought fire he brought fire out of heaven i'm going to bring fire out of heaven on the day of pentecost and it's going to be so much better than a pillar of fire that guides you it's going to be a pillar fire that lives in you moses wrote on stone tablets i'm going to ride on the fleshly tablet of your heart what i'm giving you is so much better so if they died for that and they sacrificed for that then who are we to say well it's okay and i just no listen we ought to be committed to the truth more than ever amen because we got so much better there's something so much better well why is it better now to come back to this miracle of the feeding of the five thousand why is it so much better because because moses brought fi brought bread from heaven and here you got jesus taking what the people have because in the in the kingdom of god god considers it a greater miracle to not just bless you but to bless through you i want to take the little bit that you've got when you feel like you're tired and you feel like you're weary and you don't have the strength to do anything else disciples come on i know you want to rest i know you you want to eat yourself but i want you to pour out that little bit of strength that you got inside of you and when you start pouring it out that is a greater miracle than me just blessing you with everything you need i want to bless through you i want i want the miracle to flow through you amen last week i i was preaching on tithing again i hit on it again uh wednesday night or talked about it wednesday night that the the the truth of tithing and offering and all of that it's it's all about god taking you to the next level of ministry some people say well tithe and it's under the law it's not under the law it was predated the law it's post they they they have practiced tithing all the way through the first century church and i can show you it's go back and listen to the to the video teaching got plenty of scripture to back that up tithing was not under the law it was defined of the law but it wasn't ceremonial it was practical they they tithed amen but in the new testament amen we shouldn't allow the scribes and the pharisees to be more committed even if it wasn't in the law are we going to allow people that that were obedient to something subpar to to let their passion exceed the passion of the glorious gift that we have why wouldn't we want to give god everything come on hasn't god been good to us except you're righteous and succeed the righteousness of the pharisees the scribes you can no wise enter in the kingdom of heaven and so the the message of this miracle is this and i i close with this the message of this miracle is this that god wants you to to give the little bit that you have the greater miracle is not giving you what you think you need and blessing you raining it down supernaturally that's not that's not as great as god bringing that miracle out of you and through you show me what you got all i got is five loaves and two fish and because we're dealing with the law they're talking about that prophet and greater than moses and all that he's like moses you know some places you you get into numbers in scripture and you can kind of get off in crazy land and i'm not trying to do that but because there's so much symbolism and type in this particular this was such a big deal i think it's safe to draw attention to the numbers five loaves two fish thy word if i hid in my heart the word of god is is the bread of life amen five what does five represent it's the law of moses it's the word of god that's what they had that's what they read from and so in in throughout uh throughout the the apostles reference all their references in the new testament talking about the word of god they're referring to the five books of of the law five books of the word of the lord they talk about the word of god that's what they were talking about the books of law the five first the five book first books of the bible and so what what what that looks like to me when i see five that i got bread what that tells me is that one of the indispensable things that you need it may not seem like you have the energy the strength you're wearing you're tired but if you got the word oh god is the word give me the word and then the second thing was the two fish two in scripture all throughout scripture is the number of agreement or two the three agreed together in my name amen anytime you got two jesus sent the disciples out in two it's it's all about agreement get together it's about unity amen when two get together so if if you've got a partner in this all you need is the word and get an alignment with the lord because he's working with you amen if you get god on your side and you got the word you may not have the strength you may not have the energy you may be weary in your body you may just have a little bit of strength but if you'll just give me that little bit that you have that'll be enough hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah just give me the little bit that you have that's all i'm asking i've got to stop but the beauty of this if we can stand there the beauty of all of this is these apostles who are weary in their body they're tired and they've given the lord a little bit and they've watched the lord multiplied out hungry and given other people bread that's how you feel sometimes in ministry i mean i'm just pouring out all the time when do i get when does somebody serve me when does somebody minister to me let me tell you what you need to do put other people first because here's what's going to happen now yes there's times of rest yes there's times of isolation getting along with the lord and all that i'm not preaching against that but but when you put other people first i think we've gotten addicted to that a little bit we gotta we need to break away from that and start putting others first though i'm weary i'm gonna serve though i'm weary and i'm hungry i'm gonna i'm gonna be willing to pour out because here's the promise now after after everybody's eating everything they want they started off with just a little but then jesus makes a point in all four stories all four accounts not stories but all four accounts he tells them go collect all the all the remains and they come back i've heard people say well as for the there was 12 baskets one for every tribe of israel i don't think it was i think it was much more personal than that i think you've got these hungry disciples out there that are giving everybody else bread they're hungry themselves and they're pouring out to everybody else and when it's all said and done the lord comes along and says hey listen you gave me that little bit here's your basket full [Music] you've been faithful over a few things enter thou into the joy of them that's what heaven's going to be all about is every sacrifice we make down here it's going to seem so small when god gives us something bigger and better [Music] [Applause] [Music] it's something better never had bout of her eye closed i don't know who i'm reaching today i don't know who i'm ministering to but i just feel like there's somebody here who has been tempted to give up you've been tempted to walk away and quit and god is just trying to get a message to you if you will just keep pouring out i will provide if you'll just keep trusting me i'm going to give you everything you've ever dreamed of because the greater miracle is not me just giving you what you're praying for but i want to i want to bless through you amen i want you to be the blessing abraham thou shalt be a blessing out of thy seed all the nations of the world shall be blessed i'm going to bless through you instead of just blessing you hallelujah if you're here today and you need that encouragement from the lord and you've made up your mind i'm just going to serve and i want i want you just to step out in the aisle and make your way to the front as a commitment to god lord i don't have much maybe you're here your family is fractured relationships are in tatters and you're wondering how i'm going to keep standing lord all i have is a little bit of strength amen the lord spoke to the church in revelation and said he said i see that thou hast just a little strength sardis and yet you have not denied my name don't give up don't give up come on just keep giving that little bit come on if the enemy's trying to pull you into defeat trying to tell you to give up don't give up i want to work through you i want to bless through you i'm going to take care of you when when the dust settles and everything is finished i'm going to give you the reward but you've got to be faithful faithful in this dark time hallelujah yes lord i surrender everything all across this room right now find somebody to pray with come on find somebody let's all call up to the lord right now i surrender all i surrender i surrender [Music] i surrendered the enemies told you you don't have enough [Music] though i have a little it's yours lord it's just a little bit of strength [Music] lord jesus hallelujah [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] yes with jesus give me what you got god oh oh [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Applause] hallelujah [Music] god bless it break it lord multiply it god thank you lord [Music] hallelujah am [Music] [Applause] oh [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] i am [Music] [Applause] [Music] holy [Applause] yes lord i surrender now hallelujah [Music] i surrendered [Music] hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah the apostle paul the great apostle paul had this same idea when he dealt with the church at corinth remember they challenged his apostleship he was sacrificing for them they weren't listening to what he was saying they questioned his authority in their lives they were saying who do you who are you to speak to us the apostle paul answered them back in his letter in second corinthians 12 and verse 15. he said i would be gladly or i would gladly spend and be spent of you and although i be i thoroughly love you i am i am i am less loved of you in other words i'm i'm being spent and i'm loving you and what i'm getting in return is not what i thought i was going to get i'm tired and yet i'm going to keep doing it and i'm glad to do it i think that's that's how our attitude ought to be said that no matter no matter what the response is from people i'm not in this for people i mean this for the lord i'm serving the lord when we get our eyes on people we're going to become discouraged they didn't thank me nobody mentioned my name they did it's not about people it's all about him amen and i do it do it not not for the uh not for the the praise of men but i do it all for the lord and i know there's going to be a payday i know when the smoke settles i'm going to get my basket full god's going to pay he always pays he will not be in debt to any man but the good news is he doesn't just pay an equal debt what god gives is so much better he said when you give it to me i'm going to give it back but when i hand it back to you it's going to be pressed down shaken together and then it's still going to be running over amen amen amen thank god for what we feel here in this place today amen such a such a great touch of the lord
