[Music] The Vanishing paint Challenger is back and so is the legend doich well I don't know about the legend but we've got the legendary Vanishing paint man I love this car this was originally your car yeah I bought this thing believe it or not for 300 bucks I offered a guy 500 and he's like hey man are you trying to do me a favor I said no I'll give you 300 bucks for it so I took it home just for parts but I just fell in love with it and I go I can't park this car out it's a 70 Challenger so I left here but look at it it's an amazing car we heard a rumor that Motor Trend is in the area somewhere in Tennessee with a new Challenger with a 5.7 L Hemy and we're going to crash the party with this thing I think we build this up we take it to the track day and we see if we can beat that Challenger's time you know that's something I always wanted to do with the car legitimately over and over again I was suggesting to David that we do just that and now like years later it's gonna happen finally yeah so this is a little bit different for us it's a little bit all of our wheelhouse but Steve and I are GNA take this car make some improvements make some changes make it as best as we possibly can in just a few days Cruise it over to this track and see what we can do I have confidence I already know what we're going to do dominate dominate there we go I guess you know too yeah all right let's get to the shop get to work [Music] L The Hub [Music] G well the 70 Challenger at the vce SCP garage shop but Steph before we blow this into a th pieces let's talk about what is currently in this car you actually built this motor yeah we built it for a show called roadkill extras but the short of it is it's a 360 that it's kind of like a mild rebuild it's got stock bottom end like cranking rods it's got molly Pistons 10 to1 compression ratio edel Brock heads which are a little better than stock and an RPM air gap intake manifold TTI headers and Comp Cams Magnum 230 230 at 50 that sums it up other than mentioning the Holly Ator sitting right there on top right so it's a mild rebuild decent heads and a cam basically is what what makes the secret sauce it runs really good yeah I mean it runs 12s and a/4 Mile with the 30o gear I really like the factory suspension setup it's simple it's basic it's like as reliable as you can get it's Antiquated it's ancient it's crude but it is effective you know so I think we can agree we're going to leave the suspension alone we'll call that good good enough but we got to do something with the transmission we're going to switch that over to a six-speed we've got to hang another pedal we've got a lot of work to do on the tunnel we're going to add a road race oil pan and potentially upgrade the front brakes and potentially do something with the rear gear do we want to start a punch list or just tear in punch list means we have to be accountable uh well I like tearing in in that case yeah yeah let's do that so we've got like a T56 6-speed transmission we're going to be putting in here which is significantly different in every single aspect size shape weight how it operates you name it so all of this has to go away so we can start figuring out how to make that fit this tunnel so just like you've seen on this show bajillion times we've got to pull the engine and transmission exhaust systems got to come out drive pulls got to come out then we can start working our way into the transmission crossmember the shift linkage the cooling lines motor mount bolts accessories coolant system and pulled us all out as one unit Get It On The Ground then I think we'll split it in half this is going to be some work with mt is it going to be fun when we're done I think that was eight gears but you know what I mean okay it hurt my elbow [Music] too yes [Music] we've got everything transmission related on hooked we've got headers hanging here the Drinker side one just fell out and hit me in the teeth actually we've got the radiator out Steve pulled the power steering pump off we've got all the wiring ignition and doodads off this should just come right out then we're going to separate them we've got to put a flywheel on here we also need to roll this over pull the pan off inspect the bearings put a different pan on Slam the t-56 on it and right back in it goes [Music] [Music] this is our manual transmission kit we actually got this from silverport transmissions and the nice thing about this kit I just did one of these on the firebird is as you can see they have everything for you it takes all the guest work out you just have to piece it together now because r70 Challenger is an automatical transmission we don't have a shifter hump in it which is this piece right here so we have extensive tunnel modifications that we have to do not only do we have to cut the transmission crossmember out but we have to hack the floor up and start piecing this thing together to fit this big old bell housing and this big six-speed transmission we've got a nice McLoud clutch here as well because clutch dumps you know me so we're going to go ahead and start cutting first try to get this floor tacked together where we think it needs to go and then doul and I are going to test fit it and then hopefully it fits the first time finish welding the floor in seam seal it paint it it's going to be a long couple nights but man is it going to be worth it look at that yes lots of shifting [Music] [Applause] [Music] howow right down my armpit [Music] do say this car ran this morning what happened the motor's gone that's what happened yeah so we got the 360 out we got to 727 off we Health checked the motor it's good looked great to me we laid out all the parts of the t-56 got more confused then started cutting the floor to Pieces well yeah that's usually the solution to confusion right so tomorrow we're going to continue cutting welding hammering until that transmission goes in this [Music] car well per the deconstructions I have officially filleted the floor of the 70 Challenger back here and it's becoming increasingly evident it's not quite as easy as just put these couple pieces in here no I didn't think it would be yeah so I think what we're going to do is actually just Mount this to the 360 put it in the car get this mounted up firmly first then we're going to build the tunnel around this it's probably going to look like the Appalachia mountains with acne but we're going to make it happen I say we' just leave the 360 off of it and put it up in there and see how it looks like then we just raise this as high as we can yeah and see what it hits and then move whatever hits out of the way 10 four advert Toto luri I didn't know you [Music] bilingual oh yeah is this good [Music] well this is you know fairly scarecrow is but it's starting to look like a transmission tunnel the piece that came with the kit worked pretty well but there's a lot of pieces that didn't come with the kit here's one right here just got to weld this Chunk on right here hammer it bend it weld it and then I got a little piece over by the gas pedal toe I got to put a sliver in there seam seal all this let that dry hit her with some you know powder coat and then boom transmission tunnel [Music] done one of the things we're going to do here is replace the oil pan I guess it was leaking but the big problem really is this big open sump when you step on a brake really hard the oil will just rise right up to the front of the engine and the back there's a rudimentary baffle there of course the oil's going to uncover the pickup and we'll end up losing oil pressure and possibly losing the engine in the process so we wanted to get a road race oil pan that was not available that would probably been the best solution instead we ended up getting this it's a deep sump it's got more capacity and the pickup that goes to the oil pump sits deeper in there and a like a bigger well of oil so it's less likely to uncover the pickup and also it's got a front and rear baffle not this is more of a drag race pan but it's substantially better than what was on it before so going to clean things up get this things buttoned down and hopefully we'll have oil pressure under cornering braking and massive acceleration [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] got it [Music] got it we're going to try to slide these two together one dangling in the air and with a certain amount of luck we should be able to make these two the DL Stitch is going to crank the engine over and if it's off a little bit it should drop right just like that see the splines lined up is what happened oh yeah what an awesome day we got quite a bit done today we've got a six-speed bolted to the engine we've got a big old tunnel so the whole car will swallow that mess seam sealer is drying right now can't do much till that's done so I think we're going to throw on the towel for tonight and then tomorrow we do some spray paint and stuff this in yeah it'll be good and then we move on to you know the rest of the mission we've got the engine and transmission prepped fully ready to rock all we got to do is just slide it right in now that's all you're do it the only thing I worry about is holding the tail shaft up of that big old transmission once we get it flung in there we'll need to put a floor jack under there ah yeah all right do you want to hold tail shaft or do you want to drive I want to drive okay hold on I make him do the heavy lifting okay enage [Music] more going to hook to a oil pan though uhoh Spaghetti O let me uh climb in here get my Earth Pounders on it that's what these two levers are for uh I think the whole vehicle is moving yeah bring your around oh my precious legs are going to get crunched oh yeah I have to say this is a new technique okay hold on okay hold on something's a little more down I was going to try to go back or back okay hold on it's home what yes what boom did that engine just install itself look at that what you have just witnessed here is the preeminent execution of an engine installation going perfectly the transmission tunnel that Derek fabricated lines up perfectly with the shifter so it just doesn't get any better than that wait a minute nice but it goes in like it was made to fit in here wow is the dich happy yes how did you know it is official six-speed and a challenger it's completely in this new Challenger is going down this is caused for a celebration very worst of luck ready oh yes ready one 2 3 go he just driving off now it's believe me it's got more than that it's definitely got more than that in it but since that standing start that close to the first turn using strategy oh you guys employed strategy yeah it's unnecessary to try to kill the car on this run because of the starting position you're going to be disadvantaged no matter how well you run the course therefore he's just going to take it easy on the car familiarize himself with the track on this first lap and then when it comes to the second lap unbelievable he's going to come zooming through here like a [Music] banshee for an hour and 38 minutes that too hour 38 Joe I thought you're more of a [Music] sportsman he's moving yeah oh man wow he was coming in like he was on fire but he break a little early there coming into the uh the first turn just getting a feel for it still I think so he could have went deeper he's still got another lap after this as well he can push it even more next time I think you probably [Music] will braks are getting really hot [Applause] I can hear that car riting down the course oh man is he flying [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] 205 206 207 [Music] wow here he is hey Derek yeah um how did you do uh I don't think I did very good you had the nitrous we put in there while we did that rocker on that was USS to me the last straight I had the Speed but I missed fifth gear twice it wouldn't shift well Derek let's remember I did a 26.34% that super validates the what this car is capable of it's really really good man good old muscle cars and good driving too great driveing and great work done by you boys there this is one hell of a track machine well done that's fast yeah
