Removing The Island In The Old Pond

it looks like the other guys made some progress on the pad this week i'm back over here this morning got the machine started up to warm up some let's walk over here and check out the uh island here i did open up the uh i did uh i mean cut the overflow down a little bit more after i left that day i come back the following day and checked on it and uh cut it down about another six inches the island wasn't quite out of the way i got to come up here this morning i'm going to start up here and get these trees right here out i'm gonna leave these crepe myrtles down through here and take out the island as you can tell it's just a nasty overgrown mess so if i can get all this nice and cleaned up and grate it all the way around it'll just make the pond look so much nicer so but i'll access that from that side come out there rip all these trees off and then now that it's nice and dry take all that dirt and lay up against that shore over there it's gonna look a lot better without going so i got those three dead river birch trees out well two of them were dead one of them was still pretty alive but uh got those ripped out that way they have a better view of the pond one leave the cypress tree right there their house is going to sit right there and overlook the pond so i cleared that out so they have a better view of that i'm going to grab a grapple full of that take it down here and make my way around and see if i can get in there and get down to that island go ahead and get that cleared brush piled up and then um dig the dirt out and start laying it up against the shoreline but i may go ahead and finish getting all the trees down up there first i might be able to burn later on this weekend if we get some rain since i'm having to burn like up here in the uh planted pine forest so i made my way up here to the head section where the island is so all this is now out of the water like i wanted it to uh be so i'm gonna dam this creek up just a little bit to keep it from flowing through here and i'm going to make my way out there and clear those trees off along the shore over there and get the trees off that island [Music] take just a little bit of this dirt and throw it in the creek kind of damn that up for a little while just so there isn't so much water flowing down through here while i'm trying to clear this off and move a little mud around for what it's worth i don't know what if it's worth but i tried i'm gonna leave that stump right there for now all right so i uh see if i can break it off just a little bit if i need to spin around for some reason it all seems pretty solid out there so gonna make my way on out here [Music] [Music] so take all this and just pile it up along the shoreline and when i cut all this out i'm just going to cut it down to the level of that water right there that'll give me about four feet when it fills back up that's what we're shooting for the rest of that stuff i'm just gonna mix it in with the dirt because it's just going in a hole behind the pond dam i need to try to pick out every little stick it's going to be soaking wet not want to burn anyways [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] this hey [Music] goopy mud right here [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] so good as long as this doesn't get any deeper i've got to come in and out of here a few times to get all this stuff out of here i'm gonna clear it first and then transfer the dirt over once i get all the brush out of the way pop this stuff up right here and mix it in with the dirt it ain't not the roots and mess a little stump for the beavers cut it off this is pretty much the area that i've got to dredge out [Music] this was pretty much like the ultimate beaver habitat right here all these little small trees its own little island i think that's the little beaver hut right there [Music] he had him a little uh sanctuary here or her could have been her [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] i guess i'll see if i can climb up here on this island now and get the other side of it [Music] i want to dig a ditch and let the creek flow around that side once i get it clear let's get on up here where it's dryer i am on the island barely the island is barely the size of the excavator i'm sliding backwards off the island so [Music] [Music] so [Music] so yep that was definitely definitely the old beaver hut [Music] oh you can't see it since i just destroyed it with that stump but that was it that looks like the old walkway that has fallen in that used to access the island [Music] all right so let me get this uh cleaned off and kind of raked over and then i'm going to go down that shoreline over there and grab those trees let's get everything piled up on the bank and then uh play this island over all right i got the island cleared off now i'm going to track back down here and throw the brush over against the shoreline a little deeper and then anticipated but uh yeah got all that cleared out throw this over here so i can grab it from the shoreline and then i'm going to get a ditch dug down that side so all this will continue to drain over there and not right here where i'm going to have to start digging and laying the dirt over [Music] [Music] kinda so i always end up with a giant pile of like muddy brush when you do this and there ain't nothing you can do about it this will probably end up just getting buried back there somewhere i'll pick out what a burn and the heck with the rest mix it in with the dirt fill it in you can't burn mud foreign all right let me lay this brush out and then i'm going to go ahead and uh throw this dirt over and kind of get all this laid up there let it sit and dry out a little bit because i'm going to move it around to the back of the pond down with the skid steer after i get everything burnt whenever that may be hopefully later this weekend [Music] all right there is the island all cleared off now and the trees along that bank i got those removed so now i'm going to go back out there and cut all that dirt and lay it back over here first scoop of the island so far it's dry dirt by the time i mix it in with all that mud it won't be [Music] trying to get it all to the shoreline so whenever i can move this dirt it's there just going to cut it down right to above the water level that'll be deep enough [Music] [Music] [Music] it's like a layer of sand down there and it just turns the liquid [Music] i'll be able to throw a little bit right there and kind of build me a platform i don't think it's going to stay dry enough for me to walk on top of it though so break this that way when i back up i can cast it a little bit farther get it a little bit closer to the shoreline so just push all that liquid mud out of the way here i'll have to sit up there on the shore and pile it up when the skid steer's here to scoop it up haul it away [Music] so [Music] get as much dry dirt as possible and mix in with it so really gonna make the pond look bigger without this island out here [Music] just hope the weather allows me to be able to burn this weekend that way and get rid of all this stuff and start uh moving dirt getting it out of here we're back there behind the pond dam i gotta burn everything first because i'm gonna do a hole back there and then fill in the hole with all this dirt mud okay [Music] hmm so well so far so good it's staying dryer and i thought it was going to be he's plucking away at it i think that's rock down there let me uh snap the bucket in there yeah that's rock well ain't going no deeper than that so uh working up top wasn't working very well the uh mud was getting too deep so i had to come down here and now the muds get too deep down i just need to get that out of the way so i can crack back up there it's a little goopy [Music] just need room to swing that's all i need i'll pile as much as i can up here [Music] just let it sit there and dry out [Music] this my [Music] [Music] so [Music] digging this out then i'll go back in there break out what i couldn't quite reach this time that would pretty much be the island then trying to get all this they're here that's too soft for me to sit on out of the way [Music] and kind of just all turn the was it [Music] so grab that stuff [Music] [Music] i think i can make my way back out there and finish raking that material back this way and i just want to get it all along this shore right here so i can sit up there and dip it out so i'm up here in the head section of the uh pond where the creek comes through right up in here and i want to straighten this up and clean it up and kind of grade the banks out because the pond backs up in here and it was a just a nasty swampy mess but let me clean this out and she said there was an old like spring under this ginormous oak tree right here and uh once i got everything cleaned up you can see the old bricks right there i don't see them or not in there but uh look at the water just coming up at the ground and that's pretty much what feeds this pond pretty cool huh and now i have my big bucket on i'm gonna go up to the creek channel up here and start digging it out and uh i'll show you when i get up there make a little more sense so here is the creek channel and ditch springs everything there's springs all up in here that feed that pond this pond right here that's the spring under that great big oak tree right there that i just showed you um what i'm going to do is the pond backs up in here but it's real shallow and swampy and it curves and everything and there was a lot of trees and debris in here and i cleaned all that out and i'm going to come in here and reshape the creek and kind of soften the slopes and clean out these springs and just make it look a whole lot more pleasant and probably get the pond back up in this area right here when it's all said and done so i'm gonna go up there and start cutting that out well let's go see how well this is gonna work so so there's another spring right here that they want me to clean out around the ditch kind of makes a big curve i'm gonna cut this out and put it against that slope right there and just uh pretty much rebuild the tree [Music] see if i can drain a little of this out so [Music] try to just soften these slopes coming down to the pond uh that way they can be maintained a little bit better [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so so [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] i need a little more dirt to finish that uh i might have to grade this and then go back up here and pile it up in there [Music] so [Music] i know it's cut but it'll stay foot and kind of help that slope out [Music] [Music] clean out she said there was another whale right here for kind of spring that out get it where it will drain all that right here fill that in [Music] look at all that gushing on the ground pretty cool there's little springs like that all right i need to dig a little more dirt from back behind me to throw up here to finish getting this filled in and i'll continue the ditch on down behind me i'm working on cleaning out this spring up here now take this side and put it on this little peninsula [Music] so way i kind of grate all this out dress it up nice [Music] so [Music] this pond's gonna have no problem going back up [Music] so make sure this don't back around that way i can put a little material up on this slope kind of clean it up a little bit you know well this don't work [Music] so [Music] [Music] now and that gave me enough dirt to kind of regrade that thing right there i'll add all that to that [Music] so and take a few scoops i didn't lay it up there so i can regrade that up there a little more right there now that it dried out some everything's pretty much solid rock down here at the bottom so it shouldn't have rode down much i think when the console the level's about right in here anyway so that'll give that something to kind of flow into it slow it down [Music] [Music] this is the ticket for grading though [Music] so [Music] i need a little more mud from somewhere pretty sure i got plenty of it right here [Music] so so so [Music] it's all gonna be covered up believe never be maintained but still make it look nice [Music] so so [Music] anything i can easily do that all right well i've got about 80 feet of creek cleaned out and well this is gonna be a wrap for today i got probably well i got all of the creek channel dug out which was about a hundred feet um down here to the pond right here where the water is um you can see the level is going to be if you look at that tree right there see the ring on it when i'm down about four feet so the water will come up about four feet it should be right there at the top of that little peninsula coming out around that spring on each side so it should back the water up that creek i don't know maybe probably halfway between the water and that tree right there so that'll kind of slow it down as it's flooding down in between there during the rain and i just wanted to kind of dress everything up make it make it nice and uh pretty looking so what's left to do now is let the uh mother nature do its course and i need to burn that first because i got to burn all that behind the pond dam and then all this dirt from the island and this sediment plume right here i'm digging out and that's going behind the dam over top of the area where i'm going to burn it and just fill in back there and then pretty much dress this up and that's it i got to brush cut the dam and put in overflow well it looks open now with everything cleared all the way out up there the island removed there's the dirt piled up there i got a lot of brush to burn a little more than i was expecting well i did take some trees down up there at the house when i first come i didn't get any video of that though that was just gonna be one it turned into about eight pretty much that pile right there so i've got to clean all that up i'm gonna do a burn pit behind the pond dam and burn right there but uh hopefully we get a little shower rain first and i'll get all that cleaned up then it's moving dirt time mud time no dirt
