mr donny said he wanted to beat the sun up this morning here it is almost seven o'clock we've already got loaded up and hit the road and welcome to the new job so got a very old farm pond here it is all grown up and has not been managed in a long time a customer is going to eventually build a house up here and wants a real nice pond to look at so what i'm going to do is come in here and clear out all these trees i think she wants to leave a few of them we might leave these great big pines on the on the pond dam here um but i got to come in here and clean all this mess up where everything's overgrown and uh mismanaged um there's an old overflow pipe well let me show you right here while i'm over here there's the spillway is actually two like 24 inch concrete pipes or something like that where are they at right right here i think they're somewhere there's somewhere in here you can see them better on the back side yeah right here so that's kind of the spillway and that's actually been the current overflow for a long time and it's it's been clogged up so i'm going to dig all that out in front of it there's like an old metal four inch pipe somewhere out here that is rusted off and that's why the pond's leaking down so bad and i've got to find out where that is and plug that as you can tell you can still hear the water pouring out let's see if i can walk through here without getting hurt so this is the reasoning for the pond being down so far when we have not had rain in a long time and you have this much water leaking out of the pipe that's the problem so i'm probably put the siphon in and drain the pond down some so i can find out where the end of it is and plug it there was a leak right here but i'm not seeing it leaking anymore so i was going to dig around that and kind of investigate um to see if i could figure out what was going on so i'll see if she still wants to do that or not but i think somebody went out there in a boat and marked it i think that's the old pipe right there in fact i think i see the top of it but as you can tell it's down a pretty good amount i'm going to clear out pretty much from up there around and then from like that first little cove back i'm going to leave all that alone pile all this stuff up and burn it and then reach out there with the excavator and and dig off some mud out and just kind of smear it on the bank and grade everything out so shouldn't be too bad of a little project day one's really gonna make this look nice just get in here and get all these trees out and opened up where i can see what i got the only problem about day one and the last day is getting the equipment out pond's way down there excavator is way across the field at least you get your exercise in at least it's pretty out here so [Music] [Music] so so i brought the six inch siphon and as i brought the machine down here i got it tucked over there because i got to put siphon in here and i'll probably have to cut some logs to get back across it uh if it's not down enough i can't tell i hope i don't sink out of sight but i brought the six inch that way i could get it going and as you can tell it's not very big now and i don't want to suck it down too far because we're kind of in a drought and i don't want to kill what's in the pond i don't know how deep it is it's got to be pretty deep according to how steep it is on the back right there but i got to suck it down enough where there's not any water going into that pipe so that i can plug it um good so i want to go ahead and put that siphon in this morning that way it could run and then i could kind of judge how much it's going to go down i might have to come back over here to the sea then before dark and cut it off because i think if the six inch runs all night tonight there might not be a whole lot of water left in the morning so but pretty much what i'm doing is uh clearing all this mess out getting all this crap cleaned up maybe get what i can reach and then uh from like right up there around so it'll clean this up and make it look a lot nicer so hopefully that'll pull it down far enough so normally you have to say a few swear words to get this together by yourself that's why i didn't film it but it actually went together pretty good other than that one that was very hard standing on that slope in the briars even though i cleared a path i kind of misjudged where it needed to go and uh get that put together but i got the pump set up let's prime this thing and pray that it pray that it [Music] [Applause] hey there we go all right let me get this full of water and uh hopefully it stays together hopefully let's see if i can do this without getting wet or losing the cap [Music] a lot oh there we go that's got a lot more flow than that pipe bait i don't have to drain it down we'll go up here where the water's edge is we use this one so we can see it it's nine o'clock in the morning now put a mark right here you'll be able to tell later on today how far that goes down well let's go down here and get started at where i'm going to stop at work my way down here see what trees i think all this needs to come out i might say those two nice maple trees i think everything from here all the way down and around needs to come down let's get in here and get started go ahead and take this tree down because it's not going to take much to bring it literally down one little guts to win from blowing over see [Music] [Music] trying to figure out where i'm going to burn at i'll see probably turn somewhere right in here dig a little hole and bury everything and i may actually do another fire on the other side it'll just be easier than having to bring all this stuff over here that can definitely do a burnt pile over there [Music] so [Music] so [Music] just [Music] better dealing with a giant pile of muddy roots [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so so [Music] [Music] [Music] then at the end uh i don't know how much more of the water's gonna go down but i'm just going to reach out there and dig whatever i can and just lay it up here on the bank and kind of take that out a little deeper [Music] i always end up with a lot of dirt and roots and sticks and junk like this when you rake everything up never really any good thing to do with it might end up in the woods over there [Music] so [Music] [Music] so so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] all right let me finish knocking this down and then we'll try to grab that dead tree and drag it out see how well that works [Music] let's see if i can get this big dead tree out of here now [Music] i know i can get it out of here i'm just trying to get it out without breaking every branch off into the pond um far so good at staying together [Music] good [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] a little more durable than you think i need to let this dry out a little bit before it's gonna burn might look slightly water yeah much better i think i saw the customer pull up so i want to go talk to them real quick upon [Music] [Music] it's nice and dusty dry again my tracks are squeaky i have to drive in the pond and get some mud on them make them a little less squeaky this stuff has got so much room to it normally you don't take a free down and then have three grapple full of [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] we just got to pick it up drop the only way to get the dirt out of all these maple roots [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] i get a good video and i start dropping the trees on that pond damn i'll set the camera up outside a couple of those big pines are gonna be one of them dead so that's gonna be a little hippy maybe it'll come on over though find out in an hour those couple hours when they get over there maybe after i get done shaking dust [Music] support so [Music] [Music] i guess the safest place to burn is right beside the pond so that's where i'm gonna burn right here not today obviously [Music] [Music] uh all right let me finish cleaning this up and we'll go to the pond dam and start dropping up all right working down the pond damn now taking these trees out and throwing them over here to the little corner i cleared out so i can uh stack them up on the future burn pile over there [Music] try not to really dig too much and disturb too much of the pond man [Music] what i'm going to do is luckily these maple trees have a pretty shallow root system i may save all this because i'll probably need it for the fill the hole in back over there um i'm gonna dig a hole over there and get good dirt to fill these stuff holes back in with [Music] um [Music] trying not to drop stuff too far out in the pond where i can't reach it get it back out [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] huh it's probably gonna break all these trees grow together when they're in a wet environment like that [Music] [Music] so [Music] that big pine tree's gonna be a bit of a booger i do believe [Music] [Music] it's gonna be a pretty good sized burn pile over there it's all said and done so [Music] [Music] all right let me clean this up and i'll take that big pine tree down so i made it to the corner here and a bunch of trees piled up and these are the pipes right here oh what do we got here oh that one's in pretty rough shape that one appears to be better i need to scratch some of that stuff out front that one has been crushed or broke by something look at it it's just hopefully nothing's going to come out and get me that's in pretty bad shape i'm gonna have to replace that one both of them i don't know that's not the greatest let's go down here and check on the siphon i can see the uh old riser pipe sticking out of the water now so i've probably pulled it down six inches already it's actually going down quicker than i thought it would i figured an inch hours probably pulling it down two inches an hour almost 12 inches out from that's my stake so now i can see the old overflow pipe i guess the moment of truth is there's water still coming out the end of it if water's still coming out of the end that means there's a rust hole down in there farther all right see if we can get over here well the good news is there's no water coming out of the end so what i've got to do now i'm going to let the let that go on down a little farther i don't want to take out too much water but i also have to dredge it out well whatever i can reach from the shoreline so i think it's still plenty deep out there we judged by how deep that channel is right there it ought to be probably still six or eight feet deep out here i'll let that go down a little farther and uh hopefully it's just a bunch of trash on top of that pipe i'll get in there and fill it full of concrete all right i'm gonna start working on taking all these trees down well there really wasn't a good spot to set the camera up outside and not be in the line of fire i'm gonna try to dig around it and push the trees over try not to take too big of a chunk of this pond damn out i'm hoping the roots are kind of waterlogged they come up pretty good [Music] that way i don't have to dig right here but i don't think [Music] so [Music] let's just see what happens [Music] no it's gonna fall over [Music] dollar question so we'll use the old hook on the ld18 thumb to make sure it doesn't go out right there that took a pretty good little chunk out of the pond damn scrape off the dirt i can pick these roots out put that dirt and try to drag it up here and take the chainsaw and cut the stump off that way i can maneuver a little bit better the pond should go down enough here shortly um where i can take the siphon up because i'm going to dig my dirt from this side over here behind me oh [Music] no [Music] just trying to get it up here where i can halfway there we go i think i can make that work i'll hold it with the bucket [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] well now we got a problem let me go cut take the pressure off maybe it'll quit blowing so much oil out that stump right there jumped up and ripped my line off got somebody broke that right off inside there oh boy that's not good i got the valve cut off so maybe auto parts today i kind of got some oil in here i probably should have the windshield shut oh god [Music] [Applause] will that fold up any get this thing over here and fold it down where i can work on it oh i got to get that damn broken fitting out of there somehow let's not swing into the stump again go ahead and finish ripping it off let's go over here and fold it down so you know you got good friends when they all come over here to help you and we've broke our what have we done with the one adjustable wrench that i told you if we needed the blue points out of it gonna have to use the harbor freight one so kevin you got from here to the truck where that pin probably fell i'm not going to look for the pin i'll get you another ramp yeah ain't worry about this we hold it in there so we can't find the fitting so we're going to make a lifetime yeah see this this harbor freight one i can go back and get another one after i use it for a hammer thanks for getting a wrench but i had it off by the time you got it back here with it hey i got this let's go make a new hose now so we got the uh fitting out of there it actually just turned right out but uh since it's two different sizes we don't have one so we're going to make a new hose that has that fitting on the end that will fit into that block so we didn't have the right fitting so we're going to make a temporary hose that'll get me by [Music] [Applause] we're just going from uh what was that three four inch hose for a three hit or another half inch back down until three eight just for the night it'll work for today but it's not going to outflow the hole in there anyway i'm just not gonna put it where i wanna do that fine [Music] and just like that the ends are crimped on there well at least that was an ordeal of getting that out of there since you're able to twist it out with your finger all right we are back at it i'm back at it i got the valve block and my temporary hose because we didn't have the correct um fittings for a half inch hose this is a 3 8 inch hose but it'll work to finish out today so i didn't get any video taking that off because when i called my buddy he said yeah we can get it fixed but uh i said you need to be here in 20 minutes and uh he was 20 minutes away i was like oh hell so i ended up taking the whole block off and um i was worried about trying the fitting was broke off in there and and i didn't know what size it was so i just four bolts held that on so i just took that off and and uh being in such a haste i didn't even try it the guy took his finger in there and it just twisted right out so uh that worked good i got oil everywhere like oh all on the machine it's bad it is everything's covered but i got my temporary hose so i'm going to uh clean this up really good put the block back on here screw the hose in and hook it back up there's the bolts for that so let me get this all put back together and just happens to be the uh friend of mine is the one with the volvo with the cutter on it that i've been helping with the uh where the dozer is so he had a bucket of hydraulic fluid and uh we'll fold the boom out and see how much fluid i lost so in the video when we come back out here and took the hose off actually when we got to the shop and he didn't have the fittings uh we decided just to make that temporary hose but we needed to have the i had no idea what the other uh fitting was on the other end because they're different so we had to come over here and take the hose off and it worked out good he was a fan he likes to follow watch my stuff so uh we got to hang out for a little bit and come over here with kevin take that off it worked out great he got me out of a pinch he was able to get me back to work here and he'll get a uh new fitting after the holiday that's what happens when you work on a uh it's saturday labor day weekend and that's what happens and it's a whole lot better than calling one of those on-site hose places because they will stick it to you when they did these uh two lines on that thumb that sunday when i uh had to change the hoses they were like seven hundred dollars for them to come out and do those two hoses that was just outrageous i'll make fun of my adjustable wrench because it's actually not working the best in the world right now but it'll do the job that'll cross over and we'll hook it up over here well it's nothing too long actually i hope it's long enough that thumb swivels just to keep anything from breaking if you get it in a bind well it's not pretty let's cut the valve back on get some hydraulic flow to it i think that's as far as the cylinder goes out so it's okay we got a little slack right there the uh other one was a little tighter than that they're actually crossed because the uh this size or this style cylinder um when i hook it up you know the right way the thumb control was actually backwards so the only way i could figure out to get the thumb to run the right way was to cross the hoses and it it worked fine it's just it made them a little tight well let's uh start it up and see if that fixes it let me raise the boom out or extend the stick out and go over there and check the hydraulic oil that oil all in the cab boy i guess that's what i get for running with the windshield open i guess the bright side is i don't have any on the windshield well nothing's spraying [Music] that's all dripping off the thumb [Music] well i believe i fixed it with the help of others see how low we are on oil now bring some cleaner my gracious so on volvos you check the oil by extending the stick all the way out curling the bucket up [Music] yeah it's in the it's not going to take much to add to it so it's safe enough to run today i'm going to finish out the day with it and uh put some in it when it's cool because the oil is actually still really hot and uh it expands when it gets warm and it'll actually check uh falsely so you're supposed to check it when the oil is cool but as you saw it's only an inch from being at the low mark so it's got enough in it to to uh safely run today and uh i'll check it next time i come back up here and top it off when the oil is cool i guess i'll just let the dust get all on that and then maybe reach out there and get a bucket full of water and splash on it maybe it'll wash some of that oil off so i was in a mad rush when i was going to go get that fit and i didn't know how long it was going to be gone and i didn't want to suck the pond down too low so i uh cut the siphon off couldn't get the cap off but had so much pressure on it was in a brush i undid all the clamps and that come apart and then all of a sudden that came apart and started going off into the pond so i was like i'll just save this for another day and uh left it as is well i was able to get the machine fixed so i'm going to drag that out get this cleaned up truck out of the way and see if i can't stand on the bucket out there and see um what i got to do to unclog that pipe enough to fill it full of concrete so i'll have to come back with some degreaser and spray everything i took a couple buckets of water and splashed up on it with the uh excavator and at least washed all the dust off that had stuck to it and uh i'll let that dry out i'll come back with some degreaser and clean that off and splash some more water on it it'll be okay till i can clean it better one day but uh got all the trees down on the pond damn all but the dead tree i figured my luck i better not take a dead tree down today so i'll push that down next time i come out here and i've got to finish cleaning that side off right over there as well so i was able to step out there on the excavator bucket and see that pipe right there it's got something plugged in it down about four feet but i can fill it with concrete from there and it should cap it off pretty good i would think so there's no water coming out of it so if it's got a four four to five feet of concrete plugged in it that ought to take care of that so i'll bring some concrete next time i come and pour it down there sure does look a lot better look a lot better when that mess right there is piled up and gone as well
