Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
I remember this being one of the ideas that hooked me on Terence Mckenna when I was like 20 years old.
That being said, it's also one of the ideas he has contradicted himself on multiple times. (And good, IMO).
The reason I say good is because this sort of attitude is taken up by relativists (although he denounces relativism in your video as well) and postmodernism and used for harm instead of good.
Here is another video of his speaking against relativism and advocating for the scientific method (which many uneducated people will call "authority" to push some other narrative, usually anti-science.)

EDIT: As a chemist, one of the important things I have learned is that your intuition can often fail you. That is direct from my own experience, not from a guru.
And if that doesn't get to you, just think about social media, think about facebook, or many of the people who have encounted here on reddit, that are just completely full of shit. Why is that? Because social media has given people the arrogance and ego to think that their ideas are better than experts.
Something that bugs me about his speech is that he is against the trade-offs that come with the creation of societies. It's almost like he is proposing we go back to when there were none, it's like he's proposing we turn back into hunter gatherers. Am I the only one that sees it this way?
The most crazy yet somehow rational and articulated man, McKenna is great!
I see Terence McKenna, I upvote.
Trust yourself, yes, but know thyself first
Experts are important too...but I think it's good to open your mind too
I donβt know, putting blind trust in myself knowing how imperfect I am and being aware of the capability of evil that I can do and have done does not seem very wise to me.
Pretty fucking strong. Terrance gets poo pooed on here but I mean how can you argue with much of that? And the guy is just brilliant. That stuff just rolls off his tongue.
Wise words. We need to talk more about it
