Redesigning COLDSTEEL THE HEDGEHEG - Nothin Personnel Kid

[Music] on May 29th of the year 2013 a twitter user posted this infamous image of a crudely recolored Sonic character known as cold steal the Hedgehog on the bottom was a messy signature of an individual known as Blood skull boy 84 who nobody can find any record of online along with this picture and signature was his back story featuring bad grammar swearing and references to a Kaos kid 663 a person the Creator had a supposed personal vendetta against cold Steel's likes and dislikes were even listed some gems included Nine Inch Nails the band darkness hot girls with big boobies Nine Inch Nails on fingers Levi's short nails Kaos kids 663 Kevin Robinson from school for you Kevin stop showing everyone at school my deviantART you piece of and my dad this image has become notorious on the internet often brought up when people talk about edgy Sonico sees in their ridiculousness the phrase nothing personnel kid has become synonymous with forced edge in fan works as well as mainstream works and it's used in tandem with criticism of the media so who is blood skull boy 84 why does cold steel like Nine Inch Nails but hates the lead singer and when was this picture actually created the short answer is nobody knows the original uploader of the picture stated that they didn't make the image but they could be saying that to add more mystery to the characters origins personally I've seen plenty of edge lords in my time on the Internet so I like to think cold steel's disappear t embodying the usual tropes when it comes to edgy o sees and you shouldn't be taken seriously or personnel however even though the character is most likely one big joke and don't quote me on that I still feel like we can revamp this dude into an actual decent looking character and since cold steel was the most requested character on the last redesign video I definitely need it to take a crack at it so I hope you guys like what I ended up with I was racking my brain for months trying to figure out how I could make this hotness manageable so instead of focusing on the design I focused more on the name cold steel I thought about the name for a while and ultimately I ended up with one major theme robots that's right I'm going to turn cold steel into a robot because steel metal robots are made of okay it's dumb but I'm rolling with it for this design I took inspiration from other famous sonic robots mostly metal sonic neo Metal Sonic and chart from the Archie comics so while I'm building this character I'm also going to keep in mind some of the more silly aspects of cold Steel's original design like the earring spike rings and Junko jeans so as you can see I didn't draw the original design this time I started with a very basic sketch of the pose I wanted him in which will change slightly as I'm drawing one of the main reasons I used shard as an inspiration is the raccoon patch on cold seal's eyes shark has something similar so it was perfect I noticed Cold Steel had this marking on his forehead which is barely noticeable thanks to the JPEG quality of the image and both shard and neo metal had designs on their heads so I turned it into something similar the rift ear didn't really look good when I tried to recreate it so instead I decided to make a marking on that ear as a callback to the original design I turned the earrings into markings on the spines as well now I'm adding a little bolt to the cheek to mirror Metal Sonic here in order to mimic the pants I actually split the body in half metal Sonic's body is actually in two parts if you look but it's not this drastic as I was doing research for the redesign I actually learned what gingka unions are it's actually spelled J in Co Jin Co and they're these pants with these really big flared out legs so in order to recreate that I did what neo Metal Sonic did and added these leg guards to mimic the flared out pant legs at some point I got the idea to mimic the belt in the original design by making that random chain hanging in the back a sort of belt that wraps around the torso this ended up cutting out some of the unneeded colors which is great because if you remember in my last video we should try to use as few colors as possible when designing a character next I started working on the arms they were fairly simple since I took inspiration from metal Sonic's arms I designed the hands to have this pattern on the knuckles similar to cold Steel's original gloves as you can see I ended up changing the pose a teeny bit just because I wanted to show off the full design without having anything completely blocked now to add a few finishing touches and done so far the design is drastically different from the original but I feel that's a good thing let me just do the line art off-camera and then we can play with colors a few minor things might have changed while I was doing the line art but it's nothing to worry about obviously I had to keep the trademark purple it's not coldsteel without this shade of purple I also wanted to use those grays that were in the design but they ended up getting changed around a bit as you'll see later I definitely wanted to incorporate that lighter purple so those went to the usual spots along with the ears and eventually they ended up on the shoes I really like that yellow that was used on the spine rings at first I was going to keep them on the spines but then I thought what if the chain was gold to this decision ended up changing the colors around a lot you see I struggled just a little bit to figure out exactly what I wanted to do colors are hard to figure out sometimes and it's tricky to find a balance so it's nice to look at and this is what I ended up with and again I managed to cut the colors down a fair amount one last little detail I remembered the gin colo-colo on his leg and I really wanted to pay homage to it so I turned it into an acronym justice instructing network computer officer Wow this fits into the new backstory that I played around with let's say that instead of going to the sonic military and turning against his friends he was a fighting machine built by scientists hired by the G you win he was programmed to fight for the forces of good possibly to work alongside shadow but a short-circuit caused him to go rogue he now goes by the chosen name cold steel and Sonic and friends have to work together to take him down before he destroys everything will they succeed or will things get personal [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]
