Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) ♥Movie Reaction♥ First Time Watching!

hiya how are you doing I'm whimsery and today we're going to be watching Indiana Jones why because it is number 57 on the list that I sometimes go by which is IMDB's top 250 greatest movies of all time and also because I saw this ad with Harrison Ford's face on it and I was like oh Han Solo and then I was like no Indiana Jones um who's that I gotta find out so I have just requested a bunch of times and it helps that a new one is coming out or is out or I don't know um I'm always late to the party I went to the castleis and I'm like uh I don't know anyone else anyway yeah I'm excited hope you are too and yeah let's watch them they're nudity violence alcohol use smoking foul language sexual content PG unless Steven Spielberg okay figures it is very high up on that list well this is eerie John Williams does the music okay who's Spanish [Music] okay so lots of famous people behind the scenes I don't know any of the actors besides Harrison Ford usually it's the other way around here still fresh three days they're following us if they knew we were here they would have killed us already [Music] this music This is where forest all cashed in it was very very good nobody has come out of their life ew don't go in there don't do don't not me oh hell no couldn't be me yeah oh [Music] gotten them off of him oh cool cool oh that gives me the heebie-jeebies oh my gosh I feel like gross honestly he kind of deserves oh my gosh ew holy crap no he's nice it's okay Dr Jones there is nothing you can possess which I cannot take away and you thought I'd given up oh holy crap you chose the wrong friend this time it will cost you oh that sucks he's out of here no he runs really fast I don't like that laugh I don't that dude he sucks you gotta go they got sticks and they're not wearing any pants I've heard this music yeah [Music] good job there's a nice snake sucks you were fine with the spiders but you don't like the snake what's wrong with you it's a valid fear it's valid it's local tradition held that there was a golden coffin buried at the site grave Goods that were found in another uh wait did that again I love you you're distracting them any questions I think she was flirting with you I will be in my office on Thursday but not Wednesday it's funny he's looking so different here oh my gosh in my hand what happens yes the luck is the museum will buy them as usual no questions asking people I brought for importance and I'm waiting for people I'll be intelligence what am I in trouble professor of archeology experts on the occult obtainer of rare antiquities you studied under Professor Ravenwood no idea of his present whereabouts it's rumors really I haven't really spoken to him for 10 years but a bit of a falling out I'm afraid you see over the last two years the Nazis have been teams of archaeologists running around the world looking for all kinds of religious artifacts there's some kind of German archaeological dig outside of Cairo staff of raw Abner Ravenwood U.S Nazis have discovered tennis city of tennis is one of the possible resting places of the Lost Ark a chest the Hebrews used to carry around the Ten Commandments did you guys ever go to Sunday school they put the Ark in a place called The Temple of solemn in Jerusalem nobody knows where or when tennis was consumed by the desert in the sandstorm which lasted a whole year we've come to the right men staff is just a stick I don't know about this big it's uh draw a picture I like that if you put the staff in a certain place at a certain time of day the sun made a beam and gave you the exact location of The Well of the Souls which is exactly what the Nazis are looking for oh God yes that's just what the Hebrews thought Army which carries the ark before it is Invincible oh yeah you don't want that in the wrong hands Hitler is the wrong hands doesn't get worse than that dude they want you to go for it oh Marcus gotta locate Abner I don't know where to start or she'll still be with him marianism used to be a worries right now you know what a cautious fellow I am yeah he's super cautious he's Illustrated that at the beginning of the movie looking Sharp that's suspicious okay I don't like that dude this laughs I really like this music I've heard I've heard this before oh that's so pretty that's not good job I guess game is this oh my gosh that's a lot of glasses that's a horrible game that looks miserable yeah it's very accurate oh Marion oh it's Marion okay okay always knew someday you'd come walking back through my door I need one of the pieces your father collected I learned I hate you in the last 10 years I never meant to hurt you I was a child I was I was abnering I forgot who that is maybe you could find it 3 000 bucks well that will get me back but not at the style you know the piece I mean you know where it is stop punching people have it all along walking and like functioning you're stronger than I am hello we are not thirsty what do you want he's weird the man is nefarious never used to have it nobody tells me what to do in my place let me tell them let me show you punch him you're good at that oh hell no weirdo Let Her Go is it about to burn her face jerk get him sorry oh thank you put him out of his misery it's rated BG haven't you read enough oh they're burning her Blaze they're ruining it turd sure what brain among them except one he's a French archaeologist bellock and it is something that man was not meant to disturb it is not of this Earth who's this dude the monkey seems to like him I don't trust anyone there's been a lot of bad guys so far he's got an eye patch so he's a very tall dude with a tall hat this is bad guys everywhere nice she could probably help you you've seen her she's she's all right with this she can fight oh now she's gone uh hell yeah all right [Music] she brought a pen to a knife fight still on I like this girl oh [Music] jerk monkey's a butt head I think he's working for the other team what is this wow I couldn't wait till he was done he was showing you his skills you know what [Music] oh hell no that would they carry their like laundry in that's messed up there this you're trying to escape on foot the desert is three weeks in every direction I would very much like to see you in it no a better one why wedding dress or what it's kind of ugly a virtualized yourself information I don't think she cares I have no loyalty to Jones he's brought me nothing but trouble alien you are beautiful she is that dressing can someone else do it he really like the punching sounds [Music] she's pretty good at this stuff dang it's gonna blow up jeez punching sounds wait wow rated PG I was plenty plenty of protection yeah I'm so pleased you're not dead me too you still want the ark it has been loaded onto a truck get back to Cairo I'm going after that truck I'm looking this up as I go geez fast horse [Music] they're gonna see you just one guy and a horse against all those people and vehicles it was the worst hug he ever got [Music] it [Music] that sucks [Music] just having too much fun here [Music] oh geez ow this is so violent oh my just throws advice it's really quiet I'm I'm comfortable with the thought of this Jewish ritual these Blends right in well there he is weirdo because you're wearing black you dummy don't be suspicious oh geez what you got there Jones Jones you're gonna give mercenaries a bad name did a fly just go into his mouth or what's that on my screen all I want is the girl she's smiling just blow it up throw it back to God you want to see it open as well as I we are simply passing through history this is history I don't know if he will do it oh no dang it we're so close now what ah well now you're gonna die what is it looks like sand oh it is just sand what the hell don't look at it and don't look at it no matter what happens [Music] what the hell is happening [Music] is it [Music] don't look holy crap what what oh so much this is rated peachy this is not a kid's movie it's not gonna last is it oh maybe where is the ark the ark is somewhere very safe Arc is a source of unspeakable power and it has to be researched we have top men working on it who top men okay you don't look very happy fools bureaucratically I don't know what they've got there well I know what I've got here oh she looks so pretty buy a drink or 20 . look at you [Music] so many [Music] oh my gosh that movie that was crazy that was a very entertaining movie I mean I know that's the point and all that but that was just top-notch entertainment and also hilarious and I can't wait to watch it again I'm going to do that and then I'm going to edit this and I'll be back with my intro I meant outro you know what I mean I don't know why I always do that anyway this is one of those movies that has basically everything Adventure comedy mystery horror romance there is just something for everyone I say throughout the entire thing I'm like this this is rated PG this is rated PG um I just I couldn't believe it it was so it was so scary and gross and so not a kids movie but then I thought well you know this was 1981 it was before like America had PG-13 so I can I can understand why because I didn't want to rate it rated R so that makes sense I guess but still oh my gosh can you imagine being a kid did anyone see it like in the theater as as a kid or as a young like as a teenager or whatever I think that would have been so scary like to me now watching it for the first time I just mostly thought it was funny like this is a funny movie I actually really like that I like how it didn't really ever take itself too seriously that leaves a lot of room for the audience to have their expectations exceeded I guess like think about it like even when Marion dies like it's it's not meant to really evoke any emotion or at least it certainly did not for me I can't imagine being in the theater and having you know she dies and then hearing the person next to me sobbing their eyes out I just don't think that would have happened it's never the the circumstances are never dire they're never like not in not in real life we are actually afraid for the characters it's very um swashbuckling like I don't I'm not actually positive I know what that word means but I know that Indiana Jones is a swashbuckling person or movie or however you use it it's swashbuckling okay I like Indiana Jones as a character I don't think he fits all the perfect qualifications of a good guy in a movie he's kind of not not that great sometimes like the way that he leaves Marion in the tent uh he he does it a couple of times throughout the movie he cares more about the ark than he cares about her he literally chose it over her and I think you know there's obviously more to it than that knowledge and historical truth mean more to him than pretty much anything else in his you know profession as a professor is part of that but also he has this completely other side where he he does all this kind of kind of shady stuff I think right I don't know I don't know if it's all above board but I like how he evolves like first he chooses the arc over her in the tent he just kind of leaves her there with some very terrible people I might add and he promises to come back but whatever and then again he does it on the cliff he could have actually you know blown it up he could have gotten rid of all these people and saved Marion again but he didn't he chose the ark again but in the end I feel like it kind of he kind of redeemed himself he shuts his eyes to all of the power that this knowledge would this historical Discovery or whatever would would um Grant him and he he does it I feel not only for himself but he also does it for Marion one thing I liked about this movie is that it's very um a show don't tell and you know how much I like that I I don't really want to hear this whole Exposition about it is it it feels forced sometimes but this movie not so much I mean there's a couple times where you know when he's sitting in with the Army intelligence that's when most of the explaining is done to the audience so that we know kind of what's going on but even then since it has its roots in like religious Works drawing inspiration from the Bible they were able to skip a lot of the explanations relying on the audience to have a basic level of understanding of the story of Moses and the Israelites and the I think it's Exodus in the Bible but I think it comes back in the New Testament I don't know I've read the Bible I don't know about y'all but a lot of people already know that story and so they don't really have to explain further but I think they did a perfect amount of it in that scene and also you know there's moments where he's like you know introducing Salah he's like you're the best Digger in Egypt you know I thought that was very in in real life he wouldn't have said that it was very for us to understand who Salah is without you know being around the character very much some of that is necessary I think for the most part Spielberg did it in a way where um he could he could show the story while I was watching it a second time um I was thinking this could be a silent film and the audience would still get the gist of what's going on I think the intent is pretty much always visible in the characters what they're moving towards let's talk about the characters my three favorites was Marion major tote not toad his name is Toad apparently and the music the music is a is a whole character in in my opinion but we'll get to that anyway Marion is just Scrappy she's intelligent she's resourceful she's just a very capable um character she brought a lot of humor into the movie and I'm always relieved when I find a female main character who isn't scared of her own shadow or dumber than a bag of dog crap it's always just it's so nice the bar is in Hell especially in the late 70s or early 80s it's just really cool to see she's brave but sometimes she's not she's just a regular person like she doesn't like those snakes she was afraid to but it kind of just made it more funny like it's kind of funny that they're both so afraid of the snakes I thought that was kind of cute I feel like she's actually a little bit too good for Indy I feel like he kind of betrayed her a couple of times I just don't think she would have done the same you know in the tent she says something like um I have no loyalty to Jones I didn't believe that for a second because the whole time she's plotting she's got the knife she's she's planning to go back to him she does have loyalty there she's plotting her escape and her return to Indy to help him I don't believe for a second that she switched sides um even though you know it's obvious that he hurt her romantically in the past actually really something about that all right I don't even know if I want to talk about it yeah we're going to talk about it um I've heard so I read articles and stuff about the movies that I watch later on usually I re-watch it if you're new here that's kind of how I do it um and I read several talking about how Marian is like I don't even want to talk about it oh my gosh it ruined the Romantic aspect for me a little bit because um I guess they had it so that Marion was actually 15. and Indiana was like um mid-20 or 27 or something when he was with her or whatever in the past and then this is 10 years later and I I just oh gosh I refuse to believe that because that just kills it because that's not that's that hmm yes maybe it was a different time you know it takes place in the 1930s or whatever but that still ruins it's still weird he's a little bit entitled if you think about it he shows up uninvited unannounced and demands something of her hardly even after saying you know hello how's it been I know it's been 10 years I know I broke your heart or whatever happened he just shows up and he only ever offers to pay her after she refuses she says no and then he's like I have a three thousand dollars or whatever and uh I don't know I think she's too good for him I'll just say I love Indiana Jones but uh especially with the real version but I'm not gonna think about that I refuse to believe that's what happened and then we go to uh major toad he has the best scream and the scariest laugh I re-watched it I just I can't stop laughing about this dude this is just such a character his time on screen is so minimal in comparison to the comedy that he brings to the movie watching it again like the coat hanger part made a lot more sense it was so dramatic full of suspense and then he's just like he just hangs his coat and uh that's just oh that's funny to me they're so Random I don't know I first saw it and I was like what what was that what what is that I just I can't make sense of this dude it's so funny to me like even though he he's menacing he's straight up evil uh he's just still hilarious a lot of that was was the actor just the way he's like can I bring it up it's just that's that's that's so unique it's so good like I'm glad he didn't make it in the end you know he was terrible um but still just what a hilarious character and then the music I count as a character because it brings as much expression to the movie as dialogue does John Williams is a genius obviously I kept finding myself torn while I was editing because I want to leave more of the music I I feel so weird cutting it I'll get copyright struck again if I you know leave much of the music in at all and I feel so weird doing it it's like cutting an entire character it's just it just told the story so well it's brilliant I mean next time you watch it just like pay attention to the music I'm sure you already do but not not even just not even the not even the just the main theme it's it's throughout the entire movie and then we have Sala which he didn't quite make my top three um because I'm I'm pissed at him quite frankly I'm pissed at Sala I have had that song stuck in my head for um a week now oh yeah I am the ruler of the I actually watched the play where that comes from and now I really can't get it out of my head I Am the Monarch of the sea I am uh it won't leave I woke up this morning with it in my head I just I I hate that I hate that so much but he's just got such a good voice and he's so likable he looks a little bit like um Gilgamesh from Lords of the Ring that dude please don't hate me I really do love Lord of the Rings I don't know why I didn't notice that um to be fair Lord of the Rings came much after this and uh uh he was so young in this movie I did not recognize him I recognized his voice but I I barely I I don't know I did it again I did again I know um I did it in one of the movies we watched last alien um I didn't notice it's Bilbo Baggins and I didn't know the whole time don't ask me how I don't notice these things his voice sounds so familiar the whole time I'm watching I'm just like well I can't quite place it it just sounds it sounds so familiar and I I have I have really bad um facial blindness like it's bad he was a great friend super loyal and I didn't trust him at first you know it was so hard to trust anyone in this movie since from the very beginning the first like 10 minutes you know we we feel so betrayed we're like I hate everybody you know the poor Indiana Jones can't trust anyone he chooses the wrong friends that's what Bellic says bellock bellock bellock is great okay no he's bad he's really bad he was not that bad I feel like he wouldn't kill anyone he wouldn't kill anyone himself he will turn a blind eye if uh you know he it would be convenient to have someone die he would just be like you know he's not gonna do it himself but you know just the way in the beginning he really just takes a dark turn when um Marion gets thrown into the pit with the snakes and he's just like it's not meant to be Cherie or whatever whatever he says he's such a butthole Bellic is played by Paul Freeman he's just the most likable villain right um he's not he's not cruel he's there's a good side of him too and he's right when he says you and I are like Indiana Jones um honestly they care more about you know historical artifacts than they do about most people they're just really really into their work and bellock may be just a little bit more than Indie but it totally makes sense he's a little slimy but I don't feel like he's evil also Paul Freeman did not eat that fly I watched it again a few times and I was convinced that he eats it but I looked it up and uh it apparently flew away um just in time but he was so into the scene that he you know he really it doesn't even register that there's a flight on his freaking face he's just he's going with it right that's that's he's so talented um also just uh I would lose it probably I'd be like we're reshooting this but yeah the fly apparently flew away just in time and was cleverly edited out they did a really good job with that no maybe he just tells people that so he doesn't need to be known as a consumer of flies anyway now that we've gotten the good and the bad out of the way let's move on to the ugly this is the ugly and I'm not talking about his physical appearance but that's not great either so this dude okay I'm not blaming any one person but uh I'm gonna insert some pictures here this is the same dude apparently his name is ratty Nepalese um I couldn't find much about the actor who plays him a certain Malcolm Weaver um he is a stunts actor he apparently did work in Aliens and Return of the Jedi which I thought was pretty cool I I just wish that um they they didn't dress them up like that I wish he just could have been himself he could have just been white you know what I'm saying like uh inaccurate maybe maybe but um so is the melting faces in the end I feel like this it's obviously a work of fiction I don't know why they had to do his makeup like that but oh gosh my favorite part of the ending was probably my favorite part of the whole movie is where is when toad is is screaming that part that's so funny that was just so good that's the best scream ever like it it Rivals um Lexus scream in Jurassic Park my favorite scream it's just there's a couple of really good screams in movies and that's just that's that's in my top five for sure and then of course we have Indiana um I like that he's not a traditional good guy as we have established oh he's not you know this genius who's always uh one step ahead of everyone you know he doesn't always have a plan he kind of sometimes doesn't even know what he's doing even at one point he's like I'm just making it up as I go when he gets punched he falls down it's not like he always has to be the best fighter the best anything he's just kind of a regular person and he's a regular person over you know his own country too you know he's just a teacher who's just trying to teach and he's getting flirted with and that was also really funny a pretty good amount of it with improvise so apparently um the cast and the crew got really sick uh where they were shooting it was super super hot and they were eating all this food that they weren't used to a lot of the cast and crew got sick during filming this kind of explains the sword versus gun fight between Indiana Jones and the the guy with the sword who apparently practiced for a really long time ago you know really good at it he's a stunt actor and you know he got really good at fighting with his sword and then Harrison Ford is just feeling like garbage he's like apparently according to the version I read he's like you know I can't I can't do this can I just shoot him or whatever that's so sad to me like this dude practiced and I was right for feeling bad for him in the movie I was like you could have at least let him show you his stuff you know he was proud of his skills we barely got to see it he just shoots him that was disrespectful that that man was disrespected rude but yeah I felt really bad for them apparently you know uh something like 150 of the crew got sick on top of that it's just extremely hot it's like 50 something degrees Celsius or like 130 degrees Fahrenheit so I read somewhere um somebody said Indiana Jones didn't actually change anything he didn't do anything as far as the plot goes I thought about it I'm like oh they made a whole movie out of it like if you think about it if he wasn't in the equation everything would have probably happened pretty much the same way all the Nazis would still you know get blown up at the end or whatever you call them I don't even I don't even know what happened to these people at the end it's kind of like it's almost like how I'd imagine if you stuck a human in a huge microwave like what would happen to them that's what happened I guess they didn't change much I mean he would have saved Marion they they were on their way to get the um the Amulet the the necklace the what Medallion they were they were on their way to get it at all costs they probably they wouldn't have paid her and left they would have probably just she would have been a goner and he he saved her he changed that I feel like I could be missing something yeah maybe it was all pointless but it made a really really good story so I want to watch the other uh movies I didn't read anything about them really I just saw the dates um though there's two older ones I guess and then there's a newer one and then there's the newest one they've all got Harrison Ford in them and yeah I'm trying to I'm I'm looking forward to watching those apparently the next one or the one after that one of the older ones is the one that made it um so that America came up with a PG-13 because of that movie so I definitely want to see that I'm surprised that they didn't do it for this one because this one was just Steven Spielberg is always just pushing those boundaries and he's just he's so talented we didn't even talk about him much but uh I will in the next one probably um which I want to watch with you guys so tell me like is this one the best one um you know the other one's good obviously I'm gonna watch him regardless because sometimes people say something isn't good and then I watch it and I'm like this is the best thing ever I don't I don't trust it when someone is super cynical and says oh this is trash you know and obviously if it's if it's directed by Steven Spielberg it's not going to be trash is it worth it like which one is your favorite is it this one by far I didn't even mention the monkey that was so sad why did he have to die I was so messed up I feel like every single movie I've watched with you has a dead animal in it and animal that dies and it's so sad like I know this this was a traitor monkey this monkey was a butt head but at the same time it was really cute so I'm not I thought that was messed up anyway really good movie thank you so much for the recommendation it was hilarious also thank you to my patrons as usual uh I had fun hope you had fun and I'll see you next time bye foreign [Music]
