The Truman Show (1998) ♥Movie Reaction♥ First Time Watching!

hiya how you doing I'm whimsery and today we're going to be watching The Truman Show it is number 137 on the list that I go by which is IMDB's top 250 movies of all time and it's been suggested quite a few times not to mention we just watched two scary alien movies and I'm in the mood for something funny uh I saw Jim Carrey on the cover of this and I figured it's probably a comedy although I've heard he acts in serious ones too I myself have never seen one so I know absolutely nothing about this movie except that he's in it oh and it's from 1998. I like me some 90s movies so anyway uh let's get to it let's watch the movie PG interesting it's a kids movie or I have no idea might be a kid movie I don't know we've become bored with watching actors give us phony emotions retired of pyrotechnics there's nothing fake about Truman himself no Scripts no cue cards it's a life interesting I'm not gonna make it you're gonna have to go on without me just jump right into it huh we find many viewers leave him on all night for Comfort Truman's show is a lifestyle promise me one thing though if I die before I read the summit he'll use me as an alternative source of food oh okay it's all real nothing here is fake nothing you see on this show is fake it's merely controlled interesting I don't get it day 10 909. good morning morning oh and in think we should head back oh no oh oh no oh that's horrible oh okay oh that's so sad oh that makes sense why you was afraid what the I figured we can scrape together eight thousand every time you and Marlon get together around the world for a year on that talking like a teenager hmm we have mortgage payments Truman we're just gonna walk away from our financial obligations do it I thought we were gonna try for a baby or not enough of an adventure no you want to be an Explorer rude paper airplane sticker he just does the same thing every day no wonder he's tired of it what do you want dad hey what are you doing what the heck this is bizarre oh hi mine I see him ten times a week it was Dad I swear they never found Dad's Body they're telling you if it wasn't him it was his twin you're just feeling bad because of what happened but I've never blamed you Truman He was a kid I hope not be weird if you did the second time in a row somebody's told him what he feels kind of don't like these people Hmm this is sad where are your pants are you wearing pants not important what are you doing down here being sad your mother called really shouldn't upset her like that we really ought to throw out that mower get one of those new elk rotaries the hill I'm not saying much because I have no idea what's going on oh those are shorts he is wearing he's wearing clothes it's mine I'm just trying to Merle on the rebound okay okay okay okay it's like a reality show or something I see he's in a show and doesn't know it's frightening what you got there buddy is that supposed to be Lauren because you're making her so ugly no no Truman [Music] she had a much better nose than that [Music] good driver he's so flexible geez I can't even do that okay oh hello my cat didn't like that either sorry really I guess we picked up at least frequencies it sometimes happens so he's on the set of a show he's not supposed to know that's what I've gathered so many people though nobody's telling him except for Lauren Sylvia it'll be so weird he says the weirdest feeling right now I mean I have noticed people are really weird in this town so maybe they're not real people or something who knows Ah that's so spooky they look real to me though [Applause] [Music] I think they would stop regardless whether or not you are on a show I might try that sometime I have an appointment at the Gable Enterprise laughs barley Truman he's having a very strange existential crisis right now you're okay you look like [ __ ] rude a lot of strange things have been happening yeah chairman look this is one of your school for about a month it's horrible the closest thing I ever had to a brother Truman I know that things haven't really worked out for either of us like we used to dream they would Seth gladly walk in front of traffic for you point is I would gladly step in front of traffic for you Truman oh the last thing that I would ever do is lie to you you just did I hate everyone everybody is in on it I'd have to be another too yeah well all these people suck for what there is no it they're just making him feel more and more crazy I found them for you Truman so I came by tonight it's coming out of the intricate network of hidden cameras live and unedited 24 hours a day to an audience around the globe now in its 30th great year it's The Truman Show oh my gosh the designer and architect of the world within a world that is seahaven Island we know how demanding your schedule is and we all know how jealously you guard your privacy this is not the first time that someone from the outside has attempted to reach troops we have had our close calls in the past I did it on the timing chain oh no that's lost limits nothing you've got to know your limitations Truman yeah that's so sad I like to be an Explorer well you're too late there's really nothing left to explore I came up with the concept of Kirk Strauss Truman's been terrified of the water ever since how do you intend to explain his 22-year absence amnesia brilliant how many cameras you got there in that Tower yeah I'm wearing a vicinity of 5 000. and where do you put them remember premature by two weeks it was almost as if you couldn't wait to get started oh that's spooky in competition with five other unwanted pregnancies the casting that's crazy Truman is the first child to have been legally adopted by a corporation that's correct all those staggering revenues are generated by product placement we accept the reality of the world with which we're presented it's as simple as that I love geminists with former members of the cast I don't like this guy what right do you have to take a baby and and turn his life into some yeah you tell them he's in the corner there okay but he's a prisoner look at him look at what you've done to him Truman prefers his cell as you go oh minister how is she the only one who sees the problem with this this would be so sad he's like an experiment everybody's watching him and poking him that's terrible not to mention he didn't give his consent this is terrible it's a massive screen why are you petting his nose hmm it is very pretty is he looking at us his old self alarming this is Vivian Vivian this is Truman two of your baby neighbors it's the new love interest another blonde girl Vivian your office sorry the last one's just gone usually Pizza makes me want pizza when I see it that didn't look good and wide what's he doing in the basement well Behavior has to be reported it's just sleeping I thought this is the best shot we've got I was going to call you but halfway through he gave up and he fell asleep about it that would be a really boring show yeah eat your gross Pizza nasty it'd be so boring you'd just be watching him sleep all the time isolate the audio give me a close-up on this torso he came down into the room he did nothing but stand around for a while shut up and watch it there stop behind zoom in on which under the chair there if he couldn't have gone up the stairs I definitely he must still be here come on surprise party I got a six pack of cold brewskies with our name on them come on buddy ah nice come out come out wherever you are that's good keep it lighting alone cam give me the lawn camp oh you got out nice we cut transmission man you guys need to get your own lives really invested we've got every available extra looking for him uh the principals are helping out uh the crew too yes the world's most recognizable face he can't disappear so he's like the most famous person in the world that's crazy you guys kind of suck though yeah I know we need more light we'll never find him this way it's way too early for that cue the Sun cool we're getting higher ratings with this graphic than we've ever had on this show it's pretty impressive he's got all these people looking for him nowhere to be found we're not watching the sea why would we watch the same where are you going oh is he terrified of the water resume transmission zooming transmission I got two to one he doesn't make it yeah wow [Music] just leave them in the car the hair it was a choice good job that's our hero shot oh jump scare I don't know if she's in that in the scent or outside of it I guess she's outside of it I'm using the bus driver bottom line is they can't drive the boat they're actors how do we stop them [Music] we're going to be accessing the weather program now so hold on to your hats oh no we're going to want to localize the storm over the boat are you serious he's already got a phobia of the water y'all are so mean [Music] you got this again hit him again we can't let him die in front of a live audience he was born in front of a live audience oh my gosh you got this I wouldn't know how to do all that it's complicated [Applause] chill you want him to die increase the wind hmm he doesn't want to do it good job this guy sucks oh that'll do it oh my gosh they're all just watching him drown that's messed up you killed your main character people I don't think he's dead though hmm oh he didn't bring any food or water saying this is so cool though it's all alone Uncharted Territory oh how big was that oh oh well it's the end of the set how do you get out of it oh that's crazy just silent oh no no you made it this far ah damn it huh I can hear you that's so creepy I am the creator of a television show that gives hope and joy and inspiration to Millions than who am I you're the star was nothing real you were real is what made you so good to watch there's no more truth out there than there is in the world I created for you it's okay petting him I've been watching you your whole life hmm is that supposed to comfort you I was watching when you were born you weirdo YouTube first step okay the episode when you lost your first tooth you can't leave Truman say something you're on television you're live to the whole world this guy in case I don't see you good afternoon good evening and good night [Music] [Applause] we want another slice okay these the actual credits because I got fooled once before I think it's the actual credits okay what a crazy movie I'm gonna need to watch that at least one more time because I feel like there's some stuff that I missed I had no idea what I was what to expect coming into this so I'm gonna re-watch it at least once edit this and I will be right back that was not a comedy like at all I thought it was a it was supposed to be um I figured it's it's Jim Carrey it's gonna be funny no it was actually really disturbing I would actually categorize it as like a horror movie rather it's closer to that as usual I didn't really know what I was getting into but this one really um I missed the bark all I saw was the cover he's smiling um Jim Carrey's history is historically he's funny um and he's funny in this he's great in this he actually shows a lot of range I actually wasn't sure what I should categorize this as but Wikipedia did it for me it lists this movie as a 1998 American satirical science fiction psychological comedy drama film a what now as you probably noticed I was really quiet the whole time because I was trying to figure out what's going on the whole time um it was very mysterical hell it was very mysterious and it wasn't a mystery but it was very mysterious everyone has Daydreams fantasies delusions I had this almost same one as a kid where I imagine like I was in this movie and everyone was watching me and stuff so it's not it's not like it's a super unique idea I mean but back then I mean this was before um I mean it was 1998 so it was before most reality shows that we know of so it was kind of a unique premise I feel so if you don't know me what I like to do is watch the movie again after I watch it in front of the camera so I can actually see it up close uh while I'm editing I'm re-watching trying to find anyway this is the most detailed movie problem maybe I that I've ever seen all these things like you're going through and you're just I picked up so many things even on after multiple re-watches I'm still noticing new things I'm sure you notice that there's a part where murals like Crossing her fingers um and I didn't know what was going on yeah I didn't pick up on that the attention to detail in this movie chef's kiss Exquisite um even even after multiple re-watches I'm still noticing things like uh during breakfast Truman is like taking a vitamin D supplement and I was like because you're supposed to get that from the sun he doesn't see the sun like his whole life it's all fake it's so incredibly sad I I didn't think it was funny and this is the first movie I'm just like I hate everybody I hate everybody in this movie I hate everybody like seriously I hated everyone in this movie like Fascination infatuation relatability a none of it is an excuse for all the things they put him through they violated his privacy they violated his safety they violated his his chance at happiness and everything was against his consent it was actually just so sad I hated Kristoff the Creator I hated Truman's wife I hated Truman's parents I hated the the dude in the in the bathtub yes most of all I think I hated the audience because they're complicit in all this they don't they don't care like they act like they love him they act like they care about him but if you did why would you let this happen the most disturbing part of this movie is probably that they say this is the first time a child has been adopted by a corporation or whatever so from the beginning he hasn't he's he's had no one on his side that was really creepy to me because like it kind of reminds me of like family Vlogs or like children tick tockers I don't know if somebody y'all aren't on Tick Tock but there's so many channels where there's there's a kid running it but you know you know they basically have no control over their own lives and we don't do anything about it we're okay with it apparently I don't know it reminded me of that you can draw so many parallels and you can take your own meaning out of this if you know what I mean like religion politics education um there's so much brainwashing that goes on in this movie so much gaslighting and just the fact that there's never any there's so many consent issues the whole the home it's just it's so unfair and it's so sad and I'm so glad he got out there was definitely a consent problem like the whole time he's being watched would they say 5 000 cameras or whatever um I've seen one on his on his ring when I was like that's a really big ring there's actually a camera in that I'm sure you know this uh there's a camera on the wife's necklace there's a camera in the bloody pencil sharpener genius and I also noticed on my I don't know how many times I re-watched this but I noticed that there's a camera above the um the fairy sign I'll try to put it here um but yeah you would never notice this or I would never notice this it's a it's a violation of privacy at every turn that's the third time I did that I hope it looks cool also I found it interesting how they added advertising it's a 24 7 24 24 hours seven days a week type of program so they obviously can't stop for advertisements so they have to do all this product placement I thought that was genius um and where they managed to stick it like obviously like Meryl his wife is doing uh a lot of the heavy work when it comes to advertising meaning she gets paid a lot to yeah she's real creepy we'll get to that later when she advertises the chef's pal or or like the mower or some drink that he's drinking and later shows him drinking it again um without his consent mind you and then Marlin is no better he's like um every time he's chosen me he's got the logo facing out the beer he's drinking it's like why are you always trying to get Truman drunk huh did you notice that I don't know it was quite disturbing the whole thing is disturbing oh yeah another thing I didn't notice till way later is like the twins with the white hair when they're pushing him against this uh sign that says like Kaiser's chicken and then another time it says something about a housing community or something they're just it's just all advertisements it's so messed up because he's not getting paid for it the whole thing it's disturbing wildly disturbing the wife is creepy I actually don't even want to go there like how did they manage that I've done some very stupid things in my life okay namely um I won't and I would be so pissed if I wake up one day and I'm like oh wow so everybody millions of people have watched me do that great cool I would just I would have trust issues till the end of time I would probably live as a Hermit much like I do now and I I would hate everyone much like I do now I don't hate you just saying um but yeah I would hate everyone especially the Creator who he finally discovers at the end um I would hate him so much he's he's he's creepy he's he's kind of like a cult he's got like a cult type of presence he's got this wild look in his eyes I thought the acting was great he is so psycho and he's a hypocrite when they say at the interviews like we all know how jealously you guard your privacy what a hypocrite the acting was very very believable like the the one who plays Meryl just so great like she's she's she's crazy and then she's genuine at times like when she's actually scared but the look in her eyes when she's like ah and then she's like actually I don't know I don't know how to explain it I just thought that was really cool I can't do that I can't switch up my expression that fast had that much meaning behind my dead eyes the ending I really liked it I like how abruptly it ended I like the fact that you know he gets to live his life off camera we aren't privy to what goes on in his his very private should have been private life from now on you know we can't see it our audience can't see it like like even we can't see it us the audience who's watching this crappy audience who's watching Truman technically you're watching me watch the audience who's watching Truman who's sometimes watching TV just throwing it out there crazy so I dug a little deeper there's actually something called uh Truman Show delusion it's a real thing it's like on Wikipedia it's it's it's not like technically in the diagnostic line on a blah blah it's not like an actual disorder but there's actually a something called Truman Show delusion also known as Truman syndrome is the type of delusion in which the person believes that their life is a stage reality show or that they are being watched on camera I don't know my brain is fried I keep talking I've been talking for like 20 minutes okay wrap it up last things we accept the reality of the world with which we are presented that's beautiful I love that so much and it's incredibly true it reminds me a lot of I don't know I take it my personal spin on it it reminds me of religion a little bit like I grew up extremely uh religious and then you you grow up and you're just like why did I uh what was I that's not even real I got no say in that you know um it doesn't matter what religion I was in you know you grow up like that and and sometimes it doesn't stick with you and you find out oh my gosh I don't believe in this at all and it's really messed up it's it's a betrayal type of feeling you feel brainwashed you feel stupid you feel embarrassed and hopefully he didn't feel any of those things like you kind of Wonder like where is he now all these years later it's been you know over 20 years where would he be now I'm curious but yeah we accept the reality of the world with which we are presented that is enough to inspire existential dread in just about anyone you know it kind of just makes you think you know that person you're looking at are they even real I don't know it made me think a lot um I appreciate those of you who suggested it that was a good movie and I didn't even think so at first at first I was underwhelmed a little bit uh but the more I looked into it I'm like wow this is Art this is this is actually good yeah I really
