welcome to our slash I don't work here lady where we share stories about folks that go into other businesses and have irate customers mistake them for employees and today's story is I guess you're right I'm a lazy privileged woman not all illnesses are visible not all chemotherapy patients lose their hair don't assume anything about anyone okay now that I've gotten that out of the way let me tell you about my recent Karen in the wild interference so as previously mentioned in another post of a more epic I don't work here lady I'm a plus-sized woman who happens to teach important later takes chemotherapy and is in serious pain 24/7 but all be deed if I will let that ruin my life or make me house bound so a week ago yesterday I was in Boston Massachusetts with a group of friends it was amazing and even though two of us are best friends a DEA compliance needs we managed to do a whole lot during our trip we have some great friends who went slower for us look for places for us to rest pushed us in our wheelchairs when needed and didn't make us feel like freaks I digress from my Karen story but it's important that I say this to let you know I was in a chipper mood most of the time we get to Logan three hours early totally unnecessary but a friend was worried I needed a wheelchair and the staff kindly got us one they pushed me to our terminal and I asked if it would be okay for them to leave me with it since we were so early they really aren't supposed to leave it but kindly they did my friends push me around and we got something to eat did some touristy window and waited for our flight the time came and we were first aboard due to my wheelchair status after all were boarded we get the first announcement 2.5 hour delay storm in Chicago note oh hair always seems to have bad weather you can't get off the plane or you'll forfeit your agreement to fly today then another announcement 1.5 hours they'll try to rebook us where they can my friends are freaking out as am i the staff sees me a grown woman crying and asked if I'm ok to which I reply I'm just in a lot of pain and have to get home so I don't miss my chemo everyone else has their stories too sorry if I'm making a scene note I was crying silently and my friends like everyone else were grumbling no Karen attitude my chemo has to be on time or I get worse and become stiff as a board with horrible pain being cramped in a 737 sucks for all the staff come back to us several times trying to get me home any way possible there several others who went to other seats trying to rebook their flights as well we were not alone they came back so many times do all the people they could because we ended up with a six-hour delay really messing up so many people's plans the storm hit Chicago and made its way to Boston while we sat not cool Mother Nature not cool apparently due to the number of times they came back to us and regardless of the fact that they were also working with others Karen got it in her tiny little head that we somehow worked for American maybe it was our amazing abilities to use our phones in the app to get text updates maybe it was our fault for taking the water when they gave it to everyone else I don't know about three hours I had to move we were allowed to move freely as we were on the ground and as i hobbled like a 100 year old woman pastor she muttered so sad when staff get all the privileges I had no idea what she meant so I assumed it wasn't for my ears move back to the restroom I had troubles getting in the room not because of size but because I was in so much pain a kind' flight attendant noticed and asked if I was okay after I got out I assured her I was she said they could help me if I needed next time I declined but thanked her apparently Karen heard that too and when I passed she let out a huff and said employment has its privilege again I wasn't sure if I was her target i sat down at hour four of our wait to fly I got up again and walked back to the restroom I didn't need it so I wash my hands the flight attendant said I looked like I needed some water would I like some I gratefully took it no they had served water twice already to everyone not wanting to hold up the line any further I walked back to my seat with the tiny half glass Karen said look they give each other special treats this time I know it's about me I respond I'm unsure what you mean people are buying snacks and if you ask you can get water - she just huffed i sat down two minutes later they offered water to everyone else again and bisque off cookies after our 6:00 we took off some in the cab and cheered I had tears going down my cheek I might make it we get off flight number one and there was a delay in getting my wheelchair even though they knew it was needed and called when we landed no big deal if the staff were gracious and made sure that I had a seat even requesting a man move out of the handicapped chairs for me Karen saw this her next flight gate was in the same area she looked and pointed but O'Hare is so loud I couldn't hear her my wheelchair came and took me to my gate several down and around the I tip the guys as I always do because I sincerely couldn't walk the distance Karen actually got up walked over to me and said well aren't you just the Queen of Sheba my friends weren't around me at this point and the guy who pushed me to my gate had long gone I looked her dead in the eye and said not even close I'm a severely disabled person who cannot walk I guess you can relate you're severely ill - I'm guessing her mouth opened wide and she covered it dramatically she then returned my volley with one of her own you're not disabled you're just fat fat lazy employees get special attention I guess hmm I replied I have zero clue and even less F's what you think about me I don't work for any airline never have I'm an educator so let me give you a lesson not all disabilities are visible not all people look as sick as they are learn this it might come in handy she said well I never you clearly work for them they kept talking to you you're lazy and privileged I said me and everyone else grow up lady and yes I'm fat but look at my legs and feet heck look at my hands see how they don't move easily yeah it's painful so go back to your life and leave mine a effing loan I said this loud and firm enough to attract a little attention but not so much that I looked insane a kind family got up and sat next to me leaving a space for my friend as the other had just put something on a different chair I could see they were attempting to help the woman just stared at Karen until she left I smiled and said thank you she gave me a thumbs up my friends came back from McDonald's shortly after and about a half an hour later we got onto the flight that was also delayed for about an hour I didn't get home in time for my chemo and had to move things around and am now on a crap ton of other meds to deal with it but it's nothing we all have our crosses to bear mine is this Karen's is stupidity ignorance and an unhealthy dose of narcissism the next story is actually I do work here and no you didn't get the job apologies this is a long one it happened about 15 years ago and I actually found my original interview notes from this encounter here goes I'm driving back to the office after a hasty lunch I've spent the entire morning interviewing candidates for a vacancy in my team and I've got a full afternoon of interviews lined up as I Drive up to our parking lot an obnoxious dude od cuts right in front of me causing me to slam on the brakes hard to avoid hitting his car I smack my horn and give him an exasperated WTF look when he looks back at me through his rearview mirror obnoxious dude ignores me and seeds to turn into our parking lot obnoxious dude then pulls into my designated lot and I pull alongside him me you really need to watch how you drive you almost hit me obnoxious dude rolls down his window and extends his middle finger loud gyro techno music emanates from his car obnoxious dude revs his engine and yells back go after yourself if this was any other day I'd be getting ready to respond in kind but I've got my afternoon schedule packed full of interviews and I don't have the time or patience to deal with obnoxious dude I shake my head and frustration but I move my car a couple Lots away just in case obnoxious dude decides to do something to my car I figure this is the end of my interaction with obnoxious dude and I rush into the office to get ready for the interviews our office manager notices that I'm out of sorts and asks if I'm okay I explained what transpired in the parking lot and quickly brush it off our office manager is like a mother to me and very protective I assure that I'm fine and she can send the next candidate over to my office about an hour later I'm between interviews and I hear a knock on my door it's the office manager with a knowing look on her face hey wrote him I think you're obnoxious dude is lined up for the next interview send him in I say office manager flashes that same knowing a look at not and this is gonna be interesting a few seconds later obnoxious dude walks up to the door and seats himself down in the chair before looking up and realizing Who I am awkward silence obnoxious dude uh about just now yes I say in the parking lot you know I was in a rush stress of the interview you know amazing obnoxious dude doesn't even have the decency to apologize obnoxious dude then begins to tell me how he's such a good fit for the role in that in his opinion I need to stop interviewing other candidates immediately or something to that effect I keep a blank face throughout the interview and just look at him I don't consider myself to be a mean person but it's an absolute joy seeing him squirm in the seat in front of him I'm wait for another uncomfortably long pause before leaning forward across the table obnoxious dude cringes back in his seat me your interview began in the parking lot and I'm happy to say that he will not be getting the job obnoxious dude sags visibly and retreats from the room office managers head pops in my doorway five minutes later with a huge grin on her face for the rest of my time at that job the office manager would bring it up every now and then and we have a big laugh about it this experience taught me to please be humble and gracious to other people and also not be a jack egg on the road the last story is I don't work here lady I'm a bridesmaid are l equals random lady me equals me not sure if this 100% counts but I was a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding this past weekend and had a very strange on a work here lady experience in the venue parking lot so it's 15 minutes before the ceremony starts and we are all in the bridal suite doing finishing touches and helping the bride get into her dress bride can't find a bag with her nylons in them and thinks it's still in her car so I offer to go grab it for her so I'm walking across the parking lot towards her car when some random lady pulls up to me in a van I can't hear what she's saying at first but naturally I assume she's a guest or something me are you here for the wedding random lady no I'm looking for the office do you know where it is me um no I'm a bridesmaid my friend is about to get married here so I'm pretty sure the venue is closed to the public random lady oh well do you know if you can still get lunch here if there's a wedding going on me I have no idea I don't work here but my friends have rented out the whole place for their wedding she continues to barrage me with questions about where the manager is if she can eat there etc even though I've made it clear that I don't work there and there's a wedding about to start keep in mind I'm in full hair and makeup wearing a lilac bridesmaids gown I could not look any less like an employee I finally get super frustrated and get a little be me look as I've said I don't work here and my friend's wedding is about to start I can't help you random lady okay yeah but what about at this point another bridesmaid comes out of the bridal suite and says the bride found her back so I turn on my heels and go back inside without saying another word the ceremony and reception went perfectly on time without a hitch and I didn't see the lady after that I
