That was very cool. You could tell the audience didn't know what to do with her at first. They definitely didn't expect jokes.
That was fun. Thanks for posting!
She was a funny lady. It is very cool to see how she started. Groucho was right to be proud of helping her get her start.
My grandpa would love this. I'll be sure to let him know. Thanks!
Hooray for Captain Spaulding.
This is an amazing show. It is fascinating to watch real people communicate in a time where everyone wasn't raised on tv. Something is different about them. That haven't learned yet how you are supposed to act on tv. Everyone has an innocent quality that is very interesting to see.
Her career didnβt really take off until she started dressing crazy and doing her hair like she is known for
Fun fact: Jack Kirby used Phyllisβs likeness when creating New God Granny Goodness.
The other contestant was way more interesting, he worked in aerospace (guided missiles with "memory built in") all the way back in the late 30s. Such a huge industry in San Fernando Valley/LA even now. Dude's hobby is "bulldozing" and his (subdued) passion for it was endearing.
Also, was Jane Lynch's character in Marvelous Miss Maisel based on Diller?
