Petscop: The Best Haunted Game Series Online [⭐]

[Music] [Applause] as someone who studies the webseries field and sees a lot of new creations old creations in ongoing material I have developed certain hopes for things that might appear on the scene someday it's hard not to sit back sometimes and think about how awesome it would be to see somebody make this idea or take a certain way of telling a story doing this I'm still looking for the next Marble Hornets I'm still looking around for really subversive takes on common YouTube channels still keeping an eye out for a lot of things but for one particular category I don't have to wait anymore someone has finally finally done it and I am so excited to talk about this in June of 2016 I covered the full alternate reality game experience behind a very well known creepypasta story Ben drowned which incorporated footage of an apparently haunted version of The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask then drowned is the premiere name in the haunted video game story field and was popular enough that inspired a lot of people to try taking on the same sort of concept take an old game from everyone's childhood corrupted with some evil force and hope an audience likes it since covering bends around and exploring that part of the creative horror space online I've wanted someone to make a truly original entirely home brewed version of the tale no more big name brands being adopted for the work no haunted Zelda games no haunted Mario no sonic.exe none of that something 100% original that doesn't rely on any existing property straight from the brain of the creator with as much effort put into making it look like a real video game from years ago as possible if you wanted to beat and drowned this was the only true way to do it but it is a tall order you'd have to either make the actual game in the story route which requires you to know game development or pull off animation work that looks as close to a real game as possible which again takes a lot of skill in a unique field and then you'd have to sell to naughty and choosing all the right criteria that makes any other webseries project work it's not an easy feat and I've always known that but it didn't stop me from hoping that one day somebody was going to meet the challenge and make this happen and it's finally come to pass one of my webseries dreams has come true back in March of this year heads cop arrived leaving all the needs I had for a series to beat then drowned this thing is awesome from its sheer quality and ability to draw an audience it's already made a name for itself while I was working on night Vale and keeping an eye on pet cop it gains attention through news articles from kotaku Lum house and the a/v Club with over 125,000 views on its first video and over 24,000 subscribers as of this time pets Cobb is the biggest web series to be covered on night vision I don't know if this is going to break into the mainstream as much as Marble Hornets dead but pet Scott is definitely on its way I'm absolutely thrilled about this I always want to see the web series medium grow and become well-known so this is a dream come true in more ways than one but enough celebrating now let's get into what this thing is all about ex-cop is the story of a lost video game developed for the first PlayStation system in 1997 by the fictional company Guerra Lena it's precisely the kind of kid-friendly rated E for Everyone time waster that was produced by a lot of companies after the PlayStation really kicked off your goal is a player's to rescue pets from a place called the gift plane a shelter that housed over 100 pads but has recently closed down all the personnel have left but they weren't able to take all the pets with them 48 remain spread across eight homes you read all this information on a bright pink sign posted just outside the entrance to the gift plane which of course was a totally responsible way for the old personnel to make sure the pets they left behind were somehow taken care of lucky for all of those pads you're here ready to save the day is the brightest most outstanding example of a young uh whatever you are the first mystery in pet shop is what precisely the player character is actually supposed to be it comes across as some kind of exotic pet all on its own but this mystery like so many others you'll find will go unanswered for a while if it's information you want out of pets gob you're in a crowd of over 100,000 viewers who are not going to be satisfied that easily after taking a brief look around the gif play and our player character Paul finds the game isn't finished there's not much the gift plane at all besides poles would give boxes on them a few signs and precisely one house or pets even care the inside of this one and only pet house in the gift plane is a decent contrast to the outside world plenty of bright blue and pink some furniture and a sense that you're really seeing an old game that's all runs around collecting floating gems you can even find patch to catch like amber the bouncing ball who was left behind in a cage she doesn't seem entirely unhappy though with a 2-piece smile and a trophy awarded for staying in the cage like a good pet after a bit of puzzle solving paul Kantas amber and proceeds to catch a few more pets with the exception of a truly odd bird headed creature in a hallway it's at this point that pol introduces a note that came with the game I want down stairs and when I got to the bottom instead of proceeding I turn the right and became a shadow monster man 613 1997 for you please go to my website on the sticker and also go to Ron's room and press Start and press down down down down down right star all doesn't know exactly what this all means he's the same sort of character we usually get in these creepy video game stories just an average guy who comes across something very hot and begins a document his experience and the investigation that follows we can see this in the video description as he rides the game I found and in the beginning of the video when he says alright so uh just to prove to you I'm not lying about this one I'll walk you through everything that I've seen so far and obviously to be exactly as I described it because this is it if you're wondering where Paul described the game he found there could be two places going to the comment section for the first video now it's tough to find a lot the evidence since a lot of other comments would bury dead but it seems that when pets golfers uploaded it somebody shared a thread about it on 4chan Zavvi board asking if anybody had heard about this old video game there were a lot more comments than the one I have here about pet Scout being brought up first on 4chan back in March and early April but most of them have disappeared so it's possible that Paul was the creator of the 4chan thread talking about the game he found and he provided this video for the board the other possibility seems to be one that's unfolding in a series through more recent uploads all has a friend that he's addressing directly that's been away from home and he was talking to the friend about this game there's already been stuff that I could dig a little deeper into and I'm going to do that and keep you updated but also when you come home next month hopefully you're feeling a little more enthusiastic about that now we can investigate this together and maybe you'll find stuff that I can't find here either way Chloe's aware he has an audience for the series and have really gotta hand it to this guy in regards to the performance he absolutely nails the part that he's playing on the voice-acting Paul really does sound like your average guy who found something on he comes across as appropriately surprised during all the right moments I completely believe in his performance and that's rare for any webseries but it's not from being good at acting in his role all if he is the full creator of this experience is doing a great job at keeping things from us at the star getting back to where we left off a moment ago a note came with the game talking about a website listed on the sticker and a secret code we know there's additional material to check out for the petshop story now and we want an but ball haven't given us the info so we have to sit back and wait to find out about the website who made it who wrote them know how they found a secret code for the pause menu and why the code was even included and our curiosity is piqued so naturally as consequence and with such flow in the storytelling that it really makes us feel more invested all uses the code to access what seems like a debug mode for the game which soon reveals an entire layer to pet count that nobody could have anticipated this is where the real creepypasta and haunted game elements come in as Paul explores a big open field with a black sky heads into a dark cellar and finds an underground complex without pictures and an overall sense of trust answering watching Paul go through the underground is fascinating when you watch a let's players run through of a game you know that you're not limited to their recording alone to get the experience if they haven't uploaded as much as somebody else for a game you can finish the storyline through another channel if you like what you see but the pace of the uploads are too slow you can buy the game yourself in place through it if you don't want to buy in you can always read about online and get the rest of the story that way but with Pats Cobb we're seeing a let's play on a game that you cannot we get your hands on there's nowhere else to go no other let's players no websites no forums nothing you can't buy for yourself read about it or find a way to spoil it Paul spacing is the beginning and the end of your access to the story which is so unlike any other let's play on YouTube that it makes the experience a lot more powerful you really are at the mercy of pets cows storytelling and it knows when to take its time making you wonder what comes next and when to hate you with something really strange and the mystery here is strong instead of getting answers that lead to more questions you just get a lot more questions all is a lot like Jay in Marble Hornets he's a learning about things only moments before you find out so everybody is in over their heads on this one you get to see Paul working things out trying to piece the puzzle together as it goes along that like how believable Paul comes across for his role is something you just don't get in a lot of webseries and it is fantastic to see in the writing and speaking of writing what's frustrating about pets comp is actually everything you should feel frustrated about during a mystery like this not knowing what's going on or what these on and sometimes more good things you see mean and abandon underground building a talking statue pictures of places built in the middle of a grassy void codes with faces a child's grave an elevator to kids bedrooms activated by paintings a windmill in the middle of nowhere a giant flower and a girl with her face on fire and that doesn't even cover everything in a surly place fish never Wonderland each new upload for pet Scout brings as a fresh amount of content to play back in dissect looking for meaning now whenever I introduce a new series through night vision I like to provide a bit of the story to give everybody a sense of what it's all about and then let you lose to go on the rest of the journey this way you can experience everything from the point I stopped as new material the best cop mystery however has been so demanded for coverage and it's so fascinating to me that I'd like to talk about in this video up to the point of pet cop a the most recent upload to come out during the time that I'm making this video so here's what we'll do if you haven't seen pet cop yet I want you to go watch the series so far it's got their pet cop a go watch the videos they're fantastic work that's worth your time and this channel deserves all the views and support it can get stunning amount of work had to have gone into making this web series by its creator and making sure that you see the extent of it alone is worth stopping here to send you over when you're done watching all the way through pence got paid then you can come back to me here if you haven't seen the series and you're not going to you might get lost in some of the things I talked about so seriously cohosh pets gob take the time we'll reconvene in about five seconds ready excellent let's talk about some of what you just saw in a little bit of what you may have already heard about what it might mean people have already been going nuts over theories about pets gob at least one theory in particular the Candice new maker theory here's the short version of it for you Candice tiara Elmore was a girl put into foster care and early childhood and was adopted by gene Elizabeth knew maker at which point her name became Candace Elizabeth knew maker she was a good child for bid who eventually began acting out severely resulting in a diagnosis of reactive attachment disorder in order to treat her gene Elizabeth new maker brought Candace to ever be in Colorado in the year 2000 to undergo intense attachment therapy part of this therapy was a rebirthing practice and involves simulating the experience of birth Janice was held down under several pillows by for adults who demanded that she do everything in her power to free herself asking if she wanted to be born or if she wanted to die and is cried out during the session that she was dying to which the alleged psychologist involves said you want to die okay then ty go ahead die right now and that's precisely what happened Candace new maker suffocated under the hands of four adults during a therapy session and even though paramedics got a pulse going evaluation by doctors reveal that she had suffered brain death Candace did not survive more than a day after this so why do people believe this has anything at all to do with pets cop because of two names and a few general ideas in the game the talking statue refers to Paul as the new maker Paul is also playing under the new maker plane so the name new maker is prominent the name tiara is also prominent which was canis new makers original middle name the statue recognizes the name tiara responding to the question who is tiara pets cockade very smart so there are the names new maker and tiara now for the general concepts the andis new maker died in a rebirthing session during which she was called a quitter by the adults holding her down for giving up and trying to escape the womb you can read them saying it in the official transcript of the session which had been videotaped in the area named quitters room all fencing on the wall that raised of the question do you remember being born the reflected version of Paul's character in the quitters room is a young girl because of all three of these things coinciding it's believed that Candace new maker is the inspiration for events happening in a game most of them relating to this room oh and of course the themes of adoption and neglected or abused kids president pets comp and that's really all of it when it comes to the evidence I'll tell you guys threw it out I don't believe the Candace new maker theory it has some weight but not nearly enough to make me convinced the evidence is coincidental at best especially since a lot of more easily connected story concepts have come together in later videos that have nothing to do with Candace but before we even get to that there's something important I think the nimac your theory crowd might be overlooking here and its new maker died in the year 2000 that scalp was made in 1997 in order for Candace new maker to have any influence she would have somehow needed to infect this unfinished game with her spirit three years after its development was seemingly canceled and what's more if Candace new maker was a major part of the story and pet cow causing it to be all sorts of creepy and haunted why do we already have a note that came with the game from 1997 talking about the secret code and shadow monsters this indicates that the game was already messed up in 1997 it didn't suddenly become creepy three years later the name new maker is also applied to Paul and the place at his n it's not just the standard game scripting for the statue name tool that calls him that either it happens when the apparent supernatural force in the game speaks directly to them when you type new maker into Google Cantus new maker is the most relevant result because that's just how things have turned out in search rankings but it's not like gene new maker was the only person in the United States with that last name it's not unique to her and it can't be this immediate identifying marker new maker is precisely the kind of abstract creepy story moniker you would find character using as a label for somebody who is there to help out in a dark place a new maker someone who makes new someone to inspire change like Paul it sounds powerful and mysterious it sounds like something you find in a creepypasta story which this basically is attaching the TR thing to the Candis theory is also pretty flimsy evidence because it's just going by the old mill name of the girl it's just not a strong enough connection to really count it in now as for the quitters room yes when you look at this place while thinking about Candis new maker the concept does seem kind of strong but then the idea of somebody remembering their birth and being a new maker someone who makes new like someone who gives birth is pretty related there are themes of birth and renewal and heads cop just as there are themes of adoption and what appears to be child abuse or neglect and the linchpin for the Candis theory is her last name this is really how that theory came together and when people started drawing lines they got excited because that meant pet shop was about a girl who died horribly and the more morbid you can be talking about dead kids for your horror story the more excited people get it's just kind of a rule of thumb look at for example five nights at freddy's speaking of dead kids held on a genuine full name we have in a series that actual focus seems to be on Michael Hammonds who has a grave underground mike was a gift it says and provides us with life spanned AIDS Michael also has a room that can be seen although he's not around for obvious reasons brought up by the canvas outside Mike is not inside right now he is dead in the room we have a replica of the tool that can be spoken to and what appears to be a pair of tweezers their faces and glasses and a pattern on the floor the only other room the canvas outside has a comment about so far as the one for a girl named care who was brought up earlier in a phone call that said Kara left the room inside of Kear's bedroom we find another model of the tool statue in a box of crayons on the table here's room has a pattern of paint brushes and daisies on the carpet the video in which we see Kerr's bedroom is actually the first in which real connections can be made in petkov before you can getting around to the canvas and the bedrooms unlock using face codes we see paul run by something very significant at the start of the recording a series of statues or walt iterations spelling out the phrase good grief and alas looking up the term good grief in Alice will bring up a line in the story Daisy head Maisie by dr. Seuss Daisy head Maisie guess precisely how it sounds it's a story about a girl Navy who has a daisy growing out of her head we've just seen the image of a daisy in Kerr's bedroom but guess where else we've seen it in peds cop 2 when Paul enters the shed here's a giant Daisy in the middle of the floor sprouting from the basement inside the basement a girl crouched at the flowers days looking almost as if the Daisy is coming out of her head she's crying hands covering her face just as we saw in the code found on the wall earlier by Paul and LM when Paul Kossoff stares he's able to pull the pills off the Daisy making it sink lower into the floor with every other petal pulled the screen turns just a bit red as if he's done something bad or caused the flower pain the final pedal makes the screen red meaning the flower disappeared on a bad note go downstairs and you find the girl's face is on fire in the story Daisy head Navy the character of maze he finds that nobody can help her remove the Daisy from her head and she ends up feeling very lonely and unloved here's an exact quote from the story amazing the crew ran night and day nowhere to go nowhere to stay because she was sure that everyone must have written her off in total disgust over and over again in her head these are the words had poor Maisie said I can never go home nobody loves me nobody loves me nobody loves me n L M now we know what the goat stands for and in the note left on the wall and cares bedroom we read about a very similar situation and the exact same phrase a young person walks into your school building they walk in with you you're holding their hands they come out crying into their hands because nobody will love them not ever again nobody loves me now HAP is the story of Davey had Macey end she realizes that there's a way to solve her ultimate issue of feeling as if nobody loves her by using an old childhood practice he loves me he loves me not played on the Pels of a flower maze he pulls the petals off from the Daisy growing out of her head one by one trying to determine if anybody loves her when love isn't out the job of a daisy is try and find out they loved her they loved her not they loved her they loved her not don't worry Maisie they love you well that's how it all happened the thing went away amazing the GRU is quite happy today except that's not what happened in Pat Cobb if the code for the petals are that we see nothing happened to the screen with a positive answer they love her that it means the red screen stands for they love her not the very last petal the true answer is a red screen the girl in the basement is not loved and the answer causes her extreme pain nobody loves me but who is the girl in the basement from what we've gathered reading documents in the game it seems to be care who went missing the named care is always shown with yellow letters in the phrase nobody loves me is printed in yellow and of course when we go to cares bedroom we find a carpet with a daisy pattern and the pack of crayons on the table which also can be seen on the Shelf in the shed where the data grows in just in case you want to bet more evidence the shed where the girl and her Daisy can be found is marked with a face that has no eyebrows putting this face on the canvas outside the bedroom lets you into cares room where the note on the wall opens with this sentence your wife says hair isn't growing eyebrows its comp is quite a mystery box already but I feel just from what we've been given so far there's way more focus on elements a time to the dr. Seuss story Davy had Maisie as the inspiration or metaphor we're supposed to examine relating to care the girl whose name keeps coming up even Michael Hammond has more legitimate focus than anything that relates to the candace new maker theory there also appears to be a connection between care and Michael when Paul puts Michaels face on the canvas without eyebrows he's allowed into a bedroom with a very unique decoration the room has a golden color a wallpaper pattern with dogs on it a blue car too and the table and a carpet with gift boxes like those we've seen the gift plane and on Mike's grave and part of the street there are stars as well but stars our pattern that occurs alone in the bedrooms Lou - a car section of the street dawn pattern on the wall remember this when Paul puts Kerr's face on the canvas with Mike's eyebrows he gets another bedroom this one tinted purple with a bright pink lampshade on the wallpaper we have pictures of daisies and again a strip of road this time with broken yellow lines instead of dividing lines on the table we have three alphabet blocks CR e which is the word care without the letter a and on the other side of the table something we're not allowed to see apparently all the justices audience directly at the end about this we've had to cover something with a black box right now we can't say why some other things were exciting to censor in the future a big present with a sticker on it something on a wall in a black house written on a chalkboard it's infuriating as it is to be denied puzzle pieces it's really a great move to increase curiosity Val what's happening here all in the friend that he was trying to in these videos have come across some things in pets cop-a-feel can't be shown not yet at least it's so tantalizing to know there's footage coming up the characters are scared to show us we already have more things to look forward to and think about the writing knows how to get a viewer excited and keep them hooked in the mystery and like I said earlier more content we get the more the mystery builds in pets copy the latest upload at the time I recorded this video all encounters an odd scripting event you might have comment something flashing by when he first went underground on the way to the canvas room there's a patch of dirt with a solid gray path down the middle immediately you might think it's a street and as soon as pets capade open so you realize that's precisely it as cars come very narrowly missing Paul's character oddly enough he can't actually get the cars to hit him they always pass by just after he gets out the way take a look at the cars and you'll see that they're the same model as the toy cars in the bedrooms one car in particular is important the blue car an exact match for the one seen in a golden bedroom with a strip of road on the carpet images of a dog on the wallpaper after catching the paint left behind by the mysterious visitor and pets kelpshakes who is now assumed by Paul to be Marvin he checks the information for the pit on the pause menu instead of any normal writing we get some rambling information that leads into this has broken leg for some reason I already hung him on a wall too late to take it back makes me think about the dog actually because when the car hit him I thought at least it will be over soon he survived it and I was the only one who still want to put him down a dog is an innocent when that dog wags its tail and it appears happy it's not real there is something going on here that has to do with a dog being caught in a road accident just like there's something going on with a girl who is most likely care relating to the story Daisy had may see the area under the new maker plane it seems to be some sort of void where childhood trauma is being played out with visual metaphors it's definitely haunted but not by any sort of normal ghost that experiences had by children are manifesting and there just might be an even bigger story involving a family perhaps the family of care and Mike who might have been siblings after all a girl who can't grow eyebrows is unusual the only way you could make sure somebody doesn't have eyebrows is to get rid of the eyebrows and Michael did have a pair of tweezers in his room which are often used to pluck eyebrow hairs but maybe Michael is innocent maybe the father figure mentioned in the Nonna cares room who was excited by her lack of eyebrows is doing something horrible at this point we have a whole lot of puzzle pieces that aren't connecting we've put some of them together but we've got quite a bit of time left to see half the rest fall in place Paul himself has let us know that there's a lot more to come based on things that he and his friend agreed to censor you've made progress in pet scalp away past what we've seen and as we continue to upload I'm sure we'll find more connections and get enough answers to have a sense of what we're dealing with the cap is all off I'm going to say what you guys already know I love this web series this was one of the most inventive unique and impressive creations I've ever had the pleasure to cover I cannot even fathom how much effort in time is counted to making pets calm and I feel so lucky that somebody finally pulled this thing off congratulations are absolutely in order for the creators of this project or the Creator if it's only one person which would be even more impressive no matter how much content I cover I always have a slight fear that it's going to take much longer than I would hope for the web series feel to really get bigger and be taken seriously as an art medium but seeing things like pet cop really erases my town and lets me know that this field is healthy I'm giving this the same talk to your plows I gave to the West records and awarding it my gold standard recommendation the audience pets gothis Bolden might have come from some unexpected sources but it's absolutely earned these numbers and all Ooh, I'm glad that someone else isn't the biggest fan of the Candace Newmaker theory. I know I'm in the minority, but I feel like there is something more and overarching about the story.

I really like Night Mind, but this was definitely one of his weaker videos. He kept mentioning 1997 and how Candice wasn't even dead than, he should realize the game wasn't actually made in 1997.

The game is very clearly about Candice Newmaker, but he tried forcing it into a general theme. It's a nice idea, but i'm just not buying it.

He should have waited for more information on the series. He only covered what we knew already, not that it's a bad thing; but he will mention things like "what people overlooked is that the game was made in 1997 and candice died in 2000"

We really didn't overlook that, we are just keeping in mind that the Company isn't real and the date probably isn't either.

I think NM wrote off the Candace Newmaker connection too...can't think of the right word, but I think that the creator(s) intent was definitely to at least make a reference the case.

I've been saying it since the beginning. Petscop is Nick's project-I would be willing to put money on this. Any takers?

1. He said to look out for his project around April
2. He loved Ben Drowned and even states in this video that he was looking forward to another one like it
3. There hasn't been a Petscop update for the longest time since the series came to light (perhaps because he was working on the NM episode about it?)
4. He LOVES video games, as shown in his video about how RE7 is the best survival horror video game ever (and even gives a formula on how to make such a "perfect" game--a formula that can be seen in the Petscop series)

my only real complaint is that care's face doesn't look like it's on fire, its probably glitching.

edit: also he did the usual night mind thing of skipping over a bunch of information, he only mentioned marvin/smm in passing and didn't fully go over the note in care's room or tool's answers.

finally someone put my thoughts on the Candace Newmaker theory into words. The theory always bothered me in some way and Nick finally made me realize why it never really clicked for me.

I'm so glad he covered this and hopefully this will bring even more people into this series!

Without considering too much whether this is his project or not, although the video that /u/shrinkman linked to is pretty compelling evidence to at least.

It's probably worth noting that the lack of an episode 9 has coincided well with the time in which Nick Nocturne may have been otherwise involved putting together this past episode of Night Vision.

Edit: also, could NM's outlining of candace and showing (doubling down in fact) on the 1997 being before the rebirthing incident happened, merely be him covering himself legally from any repercussions if it does come out to be his creation?
