[Music] so so so [Music] good to see all of you i hope you're excited about the word i'm very excited about the word what i'm going to be teaching this morning i'm also excited that school has begun how many of you excited that school has finally begun oh yeah it's the best time of the year teachers are going yeah right it is it is let me explain why i think it's the best time of year besides football getting ready to begin you know for a razorback fan the beginning of football season is always so exciting until after about the second game and then you realize okay we're owen too ah this doesn't look too good but anyways uh there's always hope at the beginning of the season that's the way we are but the reason i like school is because it gets people back into a routine and in the old testament pattern is prophecy did you know that pattern is prophecy and when you study the old testament you just study the way that god works he works in patterns always has he told moses to to build the temple he said this is the way you build it because it's patterned after the temple that's in heaven god works in patterns the first temple was destroyed on the ninth of the second temple was destroyed in 70 a.d on the 9th evolve the spanish inquisition i should say inquisition when they actually booted all the jews out of spain it happened on the 9th evolve the final solution to exterminate all the jews be signed on the ninth of things happen in patterns god works that way but i'll tell you why they say pattern is prophecy is because once you get into these patterns you know what's coming what i like about school is you get in a routine pattern is prophecy your kids know okay it's a school night no we can't spend the night with kids we got to go to bed at this time this is what we do well church should be part of your pattern if you're not coming to church on a regular basis you need to be if you're at home and you're sitting on the couch and you're in your pajamas if you're scared of the coronavirus i understand that okay that's fine but if you're not you're just not coming come on back we are a fidget church what's a fidget church we have physical services but we also provide digital services so we're happy and uh proud to be able to do both of those and thank you for joining us online and thank you for being here and that's a freebie that's not what i'm teaching on this morning several weeks ago we started going through the olivet discourse verse by verse and as most of you know the olivet discourse is what jesus taught concerning the end times in fact that's the name of the series the end times according to jesus now last week we covered verses 15 through 28 and in these verses jesus mentioned eight things that are going to occur during the second half of the tribulation the first thing he mentioned was the abomination of desolation according to jesus and daniel it will occur in the very middle of the tribulation in fact it's what ends the first half of the tribulation and initiates the second half of the tribulation again god likes patterns 1 260 days for the first part of the tribulation abomination of desolation takes place then there's 1260 days to the end of the second half of the tribulation the second thing that jesus mentioned was that the abomination of desolation was assigned to the jews to flee in fact if they hope to survive they have to act quickly and decisively and those that don't will be martyred they will be put to death the third thing he said was that there will be world wide anti-semitism after the abomination of desolation the antichrist occurs the antichrist will turn on the jews and his goal will be to wipe the jewish race off the face of the earth the fourth thing that jesus said was that only a remnant would survive this period known as the time of jacob's trouble now let me explain something we talk about the tribulation period it's the 70th week that daniel prophesied about it is a period of seven years it's divided into two periods though the first half of the tribulation and the second half of the tribulation the first half of the tribulation is three and a half years or 1260 days right in the middle is the abomination of desolation that ends the first half of the tribulation and then the second half begins it's 1260 days or three and a half years but here's what you need to understand the second half is known as the great tribulation it's not just the tribulation it's the great tribulation it's when things really get bad if you study the book of revelation you know that seven the seven bowls of god's wrath is going to be poured out during the second half of the tribulation it comes upon all the earth it is a horrible thing and we talked about it last week jesus doesn't mention those things because he's not concerned about what's coming up on all of the world he's concerned at how this is going to affect the chosen people the jews so he mentioned these he mentions these eight things and he says that only a remnant will survive during this last three and a half years known as the time of jacob's trouble the great tribulation and the reason it's called the time of jacob's trouble is because of this worldwide anti-semitism the fifth thing that jesus said would happen was the false messiah would appear which of course is the antichrist he will present himself as the savior of the world i personally believe that he will be islamic he will be the amaldi the twelfth imam he's going to present himself as the savior yes the sixth thing that jesus mentioned was that the antichrist and the false prophet would perform such mighty miracles signs and wonders that if it were possible even the elect would be deceived that's pretty amazing and it mentioned some of the signs and wonders in the book of revelation the seventh thing he said was don't be deceived when people say that the messiah has returned and that he's in the desert or he's in a secret chamber don't believe it why for when jesus returns at the end of the tribulation every eye will see him just as lightning happens in the east and those in the west see it everyone's going to see it we have news 24 hours a day seven days a week we also know that there's going to be appeared in the six bows poured out that darkness will come upon the whole world and we're going to look at the sign of jesus coming next week so i'm not going to spoil that for you but let me tell you it is going to be a mighty sign and cnn will be able to capture that fox will capture that msnbc will capture that abc nbc cbs and what happens there will be shown in the west lightning will flash in the east you see it in the west jesus is not secretly returning now that's how we know the difference between the rapture and the second coming of jesus christ in the rapture it's imminent jesus comes as a thief in the night it happens in the blink of an eye it happens so fast that you won't even be able to see it when i'm gone and you're here watching me preach and i'm gone you're gonna wonder what happened now i'm just teasing you're gonna go with me right amen yeah but it comes as a thief in the night why because most of the time you don't see a thief in the night he's hiding he's coming in secret if you would know when he was coming you would be ready for him yeah but when jesus christ comes the second time every eye will see him and last but not least jesus gave us a hint as to the place of his second coming he said in verse number 28 wherever the corpse is there the vultures will gather and of course the corpse of the body is representing israel you see at this point in the tribulation israel as a nation and as a race of people is on the verge of dying two-thirds of all the jews have been murdered and only a remnant remains so for all intents and purposes israel is a corpse i find it very interesting that during world war ii when the allies liberated the concentration camps the number one description was that the survivors were walking corpses that's how they describe them walking corpses is that plural for corpse it is for me anyways that is what it's talking about with israel two-thirds of are dead the antichrist is coming to wipe the rest of them out and basically it's like a living corpse that's there and the vultures are the gentile nations so what jesus was saying was the second coming will take place where the gentiles have gathered to finish off the jews and that place is known as basra in hebrew and petra in greek and that's what we're going to talk about this morning we're going to talk about petra the place where the jews flee the vultures gather and jesus returns petra is by far the most fascinating sight that i have ever seen and let me just say i've seen some pretty amazing sights man-made sites i've been to the great pyramids of giza lisa and i have been there and hoped to go back many times but i can tell you this it's very interesting i always thought that the pyramids or two or three days distance in the sahara desert but they're not they're on the outskirts of cairo and so basically if you're in a nice hotel and you're at the top of the roof of that hotel you can look out and you can see the pyramids yeah but it's a fascinating place i've been to the ruins of ephesus and let me tell you ephesus is a fascinating place you usually arrive at the very top and you walk down the hill you would be walking towards at that time there was a harbor out there and it had the temple of diana everyone knows the story in the book of acts where all the people who make the little idols for diana get upset over paul because he's disturbing their business teaching that there's a one god yeah and so they want to stone him they want him to leave the city and they get their way but i've been to ephesus and let me tell you it is an amazing place i've been to the acropolis of athens it's really interesting to get up there and walk around but i'll tell you what's really nice is to be out on your hotel in the middle of the night walk up there usually you can get up on top of it and you can see it lit up and you're going to also see when it was destroyed when they were having actually a modern battle wasn't too long ago when you start talking time periods let me just say it that way but it's a beautiful sight i've been to the blue mosque in istanbul and let me just tell you if you go to the blue mosque in istanbul don't wear sandals don't wear yeah don't wear your truckos i made the mistake of doing that except i always go prepared and so i had a pair of socks in my backpack because you're not allowed to walk in with shoes and i'm not going to walk where everyone else is walking with their feet and athlete's foot in time and toenail fungus so just make sure that you pull off your shoes and then you put on your socks and then you walk in but you talk about beautiful beautiful sight love istanbul i've been to the the monasteries at menorah if you've never been the monasteries of menorah it's amazing how they built these monasteries you're thinking how in the world did they do that who climbed up there first and was able to build um the block and tackle the things that were necessary to get this material up there to be able to do that unbelievable but let me say this none of those sites can rival petra petra in my opinion is in a class all by itself and i think probably the the thing that disappoints me more than anything is that whenever you go over to israel and you decide to do the jordan trip where you go an extra two or three days you only get to spend one day at petra and you can't see it all in one day i'd like to go and be able to spend about a week at petro but you don't get to do that now in order to get to petra you actually have to walk through a crack in the mountain for over a mile the dim narrow gorge slowly descends to a valley that's protected on all sides by mountains the width of the gorge varies from about nine feet in some places to 30 feet in other places and the walls on each side of the the gorge range from 300 foot to 600 foot tall here's a few pictures of the gorge that you have to walk through to get to petra here's the first picture and if you notice i think yes those are carts that are going down because it's about a mile long most people don't want to walk it i suggest that you walk it because you're walking downhill it's a slight decline all the way it's when you come out that you might not want to walk it and most people make the mistake of writing down to do that you actually want to pay for the cart to come out of it here's another picture of it i want you to notice how tall it is and it becomes narrow in these sides let's go to the third picture is that the third picture already there okay and when you come to the end of the passage the first sight you see is the treasury here's a picture of the treasury most of you are familiar with it because you watch the indiana jones right and there's one of those episodes one of those movies where they're going through this gorge yeah they seek and they get to the treasury well basically that's the first thing you see and let me just tell you to be honest with you pictures don't do it justice it's simply amazing but here's the thing that amazes me about the middle east when you go to the middle east you're able to touch things and do things that you would never be allowed to do in america or even in europe i i would say and the reason why i say that is when lisa and i first traveled to uh egypt we went to the national museum and here's artifacts that are 3 500 to 4 000 years old and you can touch them you're not supposed to but you can't there's no plexiglass between you you know there's just this little little cord that's there no air conditioning and like 120 degrees in the museum my wife never gets sick and she got sick because of the heat the stench from the bathroom horrible it's their national museum now of course they built a new one can't wait to go back and see the new one when we were at ephesus we went to the ephesus museum and they had this seven foot statue replica or actually it was dug up at ephesus it's a statue of diana and it says little sign says please don't touch know what's there i said hey rocky get a picture of this yeah sorry i i know you know pastor you're not supposed to you're not supposed to do that supposed to obey the laws of land but gosh the temptation was too great and you know jesus forgives anyways let me give you a little history and geography lesson on petra before we get into the row that petra is going to play during the tribulation because petra plays a very important role in the tribulation petra is located in the edomite mountains in a narrow winding valley called wadimusa which means valley of moses in fact what most people don't know is the tomb of aaron yeah to get to it you go through petra because it's the air was actually uh buried in the edomite mountains the area now known as petra was the home of the k-dwelling horites in fact the word hora means cave dwellers and the horites are mentioned in genesis chapter 14 verse number 6. we're also told where they dwelt and it's very important because these names will be repeated through the old testament and it's good to understand these these terms these places and where they're located notice what genesis 14 6 says and the horites at mount seir mount seir is mentioned many times in the old testament now notice what it says and the horites at mount seir as far as el parent at the edge of the wilderness so i want you to know the horites dwelt at mount seer so in the bible the area known as petra is referred to as mount seir so every time you see mount seer mentioned in the bible it's talking about the area of petra now the horites or the yeah the horites were eventually driven out by the who were the descendants of esau look at deuteronomy chapter 2 verse 12. it says in earlier times the horites had lived in seer but they were driven out and displaced by the descendants of esau just as israel drove out the people of canaan when the lord gave israel their land you know sometimes we think that god just forgot about esau but he didn't if you remember when the children of israel came out of the promised land when they came out of egypt and they were traveling they got to the place of seer the the what was the point of the rights land but the had driven them out and now the were there esau's descendants god told them you can't have one foot of their land i've given it to them god did the same thing for esau that he did for jacob and his descendants yeah so he tells us right here that they were driven out and displaced by the descendants of esau just as israel drove out the people of canaan when the lord gave israel to their land so god gave the land to israel the canaanites land but he also gave the rights land to esau the so petra became an edomite stronghold and they referred to it as selah you'll find that in second kings chapter 14 verse number 7. they referred to it as selah because selah actually means rock or stone and you'll see why when you see these pictures or you ever go to petra because all of these things are carved out of rock now there's another word in the bible that's spelled the same in english and it sounds the same but it's a different word with a different meaning it's the word sila and it's a musical term it means to exalt but selah means rock so don't confuse the two words because in english they're spelled the same but if you go back to hebrew they're not the same words but if you're reading through and you see selah and you think that it's a musical term and it means to exalt but it's actually the word sila not c law then you realize oh wait a minute it's not a musical term at all it's referring to a place it's referring to petra all right now there's a couple of things that you need to keep in mind as you read through the old testament first of all esau's descendants are referred to as secondly the drove out the horites the cave dwellers and displaced them so all of the area around mount seir became known as edom look at genesis chapter 36 verse number eight notice what it says so esau dwelt in mount seir esau is edom i did not add that that that's part of the bible verse esau is edom the reason it states that in this bible verse is so that when you're reading through the rest of the old testament and you see edom or the you know that they are the descendants of esau they are related to jacob yeah to israel and we need to remember that now about 300 bc a nomadic group of arabs known as nabateans drove the out of the region of mount seir they captured sela and made it their capital in the religious center of the nabataean kingdom now after alexander the great conquered most of the known world the hellenistic culture swept through the east as well as the language even in places that alexander didn't conquer and even the nabataeans slowly adopted the greek the grecian culture and also the greek language and as they adopted the greek language the people started referring to the city as petra which means rock instead of sila why because they quit speaking their language and they started speaking greek so rather than refer to it as selah they started referring to it as petra which means rock or stone but it was the nabataeans that did most of the rock carvings that you'll see today if you go to petra now in 106 a.d the romans defeated the nabataeans and petra and the entire era became part of the roman province of arabia that's important but i won't bring it up now because it's not important what we're teaching on now for those of you who are very familiar with eschatology you have probably heard that the jews will flee to petra after the abomination of desolation occurs how many of you have heard that you've heard pastors say that you've heard scholars say that you've read that well why do scholars believe that why do pastors say that well the reason most scholars believe that the jews are going to flee to petra is because of revelation chapter 12 verses 13 and 7 13 through 17 coupled with micah chapter 2 verse 12 along with passages in the book of isaiah and other prophets we're not going to really look at too much in isaiah but we'll look at a few things but notice what revelation chapter 12 verses 13 through 17 says when the dragon who's the dragon satan realized that he had been thrown down to the earth he pursued the woman who'd given birth to the male child who's the woman israel who did she give birth to jesus he's the male child but more importantly he's the savior of the world there's a reason why there's so much anti-semitism it blows my mind you would think after the holocaust the whole world would think that it was anathema to to be anti-semitic but here we are just what 1948 so you're talking about 50 50 years 20 just 70 something years after world war ii and the world is anti-semitic again that just blows my mind but you want to know why they are and you want to know why the world's always been anti-semitic because the devil hates the people who brought forth the savior of this world he hates them it blows my mind but the devil hates them so notice what it says when the dragon realize had been thrown down to the earth he pursued the woman had given birth to the male child but she was given two wings like those of a great eagle so she could fly to the place prepared for her in the wilderness there is a place that's prepared for israel to flee to a place in the wilderness there she would be cared for and protected from the dragon for a time times and half a time we've already looked at that how long is that three and a half years so in that last three and a half years when there's worldwide anti-semitism to the point that they're wanting to put them all to death she flees into the wilderness and god has prepared a place for her to protect her and care for her for this last three and a half years then the dragon tried to drown the woman with the flood of water that flowed from his mouth but the earth helped her by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that gushed out from the mouth of the dragon i'm not going to expound on that but i'm going to give you a little hint i've already taught most of this through the book of revelation when i went verse by verse in the book of revelation but it's kind of interesting the seventh bowl is a great earthquake jerusalem is divided into three most of the known cities of the world are completely destroyed some of the cities that are built in harbors fall into the sea great tsunamis hit the islands totally wipe them out hailstone weighing over a hundred pounds begins to fall on the earth that's the seventh bow but i want you to notice what it says but the earth helped her by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that gushed out from the mouth of the dragon how can the earth open up its mouth and swallow them earthquake and the dragon was angry at the woman declared war against the rest of her children yeah jesus came into his own zone recognized him received him not but what's the rest of her children israel the jews all who keep god's commandments and maintain their testimony for jesus now micah chapter 2 verse number 12 tells us that the place that's prepared for israel in the wilderness is petra revelation just tells us there's a place prepared micah chapter 2 verse 12 tells us where this place is in the wilderness notice what it says i will surely assemble o jacob all of thee i will surely gather the remnant of israel i will put them together as the sheep of basra underline that basra as the flock in the midst of the fold they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men basra means sheepfold but basra was also another name for petra because its natural features are like a sheep folk so in the old testament jews did not refer to petra as petra or sila they referred to it as mount seir or they referred to it as basra yeah that is the hebrew name for the city of mount seir the city of petra now if you remember jesus himself told the jews to flee when the abomination of desolation occurs we've already studied that it's found in matthew chapter 24 verses 15 through 21 but i want to read it again because now that we know this information let's see what jesus said therefore when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by daniel the prophet standing in the holy place whoever reads let him understand understand what the implication is the end of the tribulation has begun the first half is over the second half is beginning then let those who are in judea flee to the mountains what mountains the edomite mountains aka mount seer aka petra let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house let him who's in the field not go back to get his clothes but what are those who are pregnant to those who are nursing babies in those days and pray that your flight may not be in the winter or on the sabbath why not in the winter because that's the rainy season you have flash floods and to be able to get to petra you have to go through these watties you have to go through these gorges and the flash floods will wipe you out yeah or on the sabbath because there's no travel or public transportation for then there will be great tribulation such as not been seen since the beginning of the world until this time no nor ever shall be as bad as the holocaust was it's nothing compared to what will happen during the second half of the great tribulation or second half of the tribulation known as the great tribulation so many of the jews living in israel at the time will run to petra when they see the abomination of desolation take place but let me ask you a question this is a question i just naturally ask you know when i'm reading through the bible there's certain questions that pop into my head now this is a question that pops into my head when i think about the jews that run to petra i think what would keep the antichrist from following them to petra let's be honest petra is only 94 miles south of jerusalem only 47 miles south of the dead sea if you go as the crow flies i've got the program lagos you can actually take the bible atlas in the bible program logos and you can put your cursor on the city of jerusalem you can hold down your the you can left click the the mouse hit control button and you can scroll it down to petra and it will tell you it's only about 78 miles as the crow flies yeah so what would keep the antichrist from following them to petra in other words with all the modern weapons that we have what will keep the antichrist from bombing them or just going in there and massacring them when they get to petra does anyone know well believe it or not daniel chapter 11 verse number 41 tells us look at what it says he and we'll find out that this is referring to the antichrist the antichrist will also invade the beautiful land what's the beautiful land well in god's eyes it's israel it's the promised land he will also invade the beautiful land many countries will fall some willingly give their submission to him others he'll conquer many countries will fall but edom moab and the leaders of the mount iman will be delivered from his hand now of course as i already told you daniel chapter 11 is talking about the antichrist and we're told in verse 41 that one country will remain out of his control and what country is that well it's not difficult to see because the boundaries of modern-day jordan encompass the ancient countries of edom and amman so jordan will not be under the control of the antichrist or subject to him and petra is located in jordan yeah so when they flee to jordan they are fleeing to a country that does not have an alliance one of the few countries in the middle east that does not have an alliance with the antichrist yeah so we can't follow them in fact jordan will be the one country in the middle christ in the middle east that will be not be under the control of the antichrist so he can't follow the jews into jordan or attack them while they're in jordan which is where petra is and that's why most experts in eschatology believe that the jews will flee to the city of petra and the area around it now at the very end of the tribulation when the devil is so angered he will not respect or the antichrist will not respect the borders of jordan and he'll surround petra but of course that's when all of the things take place the seventh bowl is poured out there's the earthquake and then shortly after that jesus returns because even after the earthquake they are determined they are going to wipe the jews off the face of the earth but jesus returns now you need to understand that not all jews will flee when the abomination of desolation occurs in fact only a third will look at zechariah chapter 13 verses 8 through 9. two-thirds of the people in the land will be cut off and i says the lord but one third will be left in the land i will bring that group through the fire and make them pure i refine them like silver and purify them like gold they will call on my name and i will answer them i will say these are my people and they will say the lord is our god now this is why most scholars believe that only a third of the jews will survive the last half of the tribulation go back and read chapters 12 13 and 14 to see this in context and you'll understand what this is talking about now there's about three million jews in the in the land of israel today so petra has to accommodate about a million people and petra is more than large enough to be able to do that in fact it can accommodate probably up to three to four million now let me give you one more scripture that indicates that petra will be the place that the jews flee to look with me if you would in isaiah chapter 26 verses 20 through 21. now there's there's many more scriptures but i don't have time for all of them so let's just look at this one it says come my people enter thou into thy chambers interesting word in hebrew and shut thy doors about thee hide thyself as it were for a little moment until the indignation be overpassed for behold the lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity the earth also shall disclose her blood and shall no more cover her slain now the word chambers most likely refers to caves here's what's interesting petra has more than enough caves to shelter the jews during the last half of the tribulation in fact there's a picture of one of the caves i believe coming up but here's what's interesting archaeologists now believe that 75 of petra is underground they believe that huge caves have been dug underneath surface and they're just now working on excavating the openings in fact on this last trip our group is able to walk up to the treasury but we couldn't go into the treasury and the reason we couldn't go into the treasury is because archaeologists had discovered rooms underneath the treasury and they were in the process of excavating the openings to that dwelling underneath the treasury yeah but my point is this petra could easily hold more than 3 million people yeah now let's talk about the return of jesus christ because most people are confused about the return of jesus where will jesus appear when he first returns what have you all been taught the amount of olives how many even taught the mount of olives jesus will return to the mount of olives and he will place his feet on there and it will split in two half of it goes to the north half of it goes to the south how many been taught that how many are afraid to raise your hand because you know this is your question i know most of you've been taught that because that's what most scholars teach but it's not true if you remember jesus said this whoever the corpse is there the vultures will gather and as i told you last week the corpse represents israel and the vultures are the gentile nations so the first place that jesus appears when he returns is not the mount of olives what does he return to basra also known as petra and from there after he defeats the enemies that have come against them does he go to jerusalem to the mount of olives now let me prove this to you turn with me if you would do isaiah chapter 63 verses 1-4 who is this who comes from edom from the city of basra that's what the what's what they called it uh in the old testament the jews did basra but in greek it's what the city of petra so who is this who comes from edom from the city of basra with his clothing stained red why is his clothing stained red we're going to find out who is this in royal robes marching in his great strength that is i the lord announcing your salvation as i the lord who has come to who has the power to say why are your clothes so red as if you've been treading out grapes i have been treading the wine press alone alone no one was there to help me now when it comes to the mount of olives the saints are with him but here he says he's alone no one's with him in my anger i have trampled my enemies as if they were grapes in my fury i have trampled my foes their blood has stained my clothes for the time has come for me to avenge my people to ransom them from their oppressors so who's the person dressed in rural robes marching in his own strength announcing salvation because he alone has the power to save that's not a trick question jesus so this is talking about jesus and where did he go to save his people isaiah tells us the city of basra he trampled out israel's enemies and their blood has stained his gloves in fact i want you to read to you if you don't mind revelation chapter 19 verses 11 through 13 and as we're reading it i want you to ask yourself why is his robe soaked with blood notice what it says now i saw heaven open and behold a white horse and who who sat on him was called faithful and true and his righteousness he judges and makes war his eyes were like a flame of fire on his head were many crowns he had a name written that no one knew except himself he was clothed with a robe dipped in blood and his name is called the word of god who's that jesus but i want you to notice he has a robe dipped in blood the word dipped is baptizo it means he's been baptized in blood which means he earned it he was there he was baptized in it and we already read how he was baptized in it yeah he trampled out the wine press and his fury he destroyed the enemies his his robe was soaked with blood so when jesus returns he goes to basra first and then he goes to jerusalem and then zechariah explains why there is a reason why he goes to basra first and then he goes to the mount of olives look at zechariah chapter 12 verse 7. the lord will give victory to the rest of judah first before jerusalem so that the people of jerusalem the world line of david will not have greater honor than the rest of judah everyone knows that jerusalem is the city of god it's the city that god chose for the people to worship him when they were to bring their sacrifice and offering they came to jerusalem in fact the new city the new jerusalem heaven that comes down on earth is called the new jerusalem but you know sometimes we get so caught up and all the honor goes to that you know what god wants us to know he takes care of the least he takes care of those that people pay no attention to when his people run to petra that's where they're in trouble he's not going to redeem the city of jerusalem first just because it's his city now he looks after his own first he goes to basra and he tramples out the enemies but not only that because he has an extra dimensional body after he tramples out the enemies then he actually goes back he gets the saints and he's now goes to jerusalem so for basra jesus then goes to the mount of olives to save jerusalem look at zechariah chapter 14 verses 2 through 5. for i will gather all the nations against jerusalem to battle the city will be captured now here's what you need to understand they've come after the jews got defeated but now all the nations that are there that's in the jezreel valley they now come up against jerusalem because there are certain jews who did not flee and still survived and they've been hiding the city kind of like they did during world war ii but notice what it says i will gather all the nations against jerusalem to battle and the city will be captured the houses plundered the women ravished and half of the city exile but the rest of the people will not be caught up cut off from the city then the lord will go forth and fight against those nations as when he fights on a day of battle and in that day his feet will stand on the mount of olives which is in front of jerusalem on the east and the mount of olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley so that half of the mountain will move towards the north and the other half towards the south and you will flee by the valley of my mountains for the valley of the mountains will reach to israel yes you would will flee just as you fled before the earthquake in the days of usia king of judah then the lord my god will come and all the holy ones with him so he goes to basra first and then he comes to the mount of olives zechariah tells us why it's because he's not going to give honor jerusalem that always gets honor but he's going to take care of the least those who are hiding out that need him and then when he takes care of that he brings the saints with him and comes to the mount of olives and then that's what we normally refer to as the battle of armageddon but here's what i want you to remember the primary purpose of the tribulation is to do what to bring the jews to a saving knowledge of jesus christ the tribulation serves three purposes the first is to do away with wickedness and wicked people the second purpose is to have the greatest revival that the world has ever seen and that happens but the primary purpose the third and primary purpose is to bring the jews to saving knowledge of jesus christ why because jesus said in luke chapter 13 verses 34 and 35 jerusalem jerusalem you who killed the prophets in stone those who sent you how often i have longed to gather your children together as a hen gatherers or chicks under her wings and you were not willing look your house is left to you desolate and it has been i tell you and this is what jesus told the jews you will not see me again until you say blessed is who who comes in the name of the lord which is a messianic psalm in other words what jesus is telling the jews is i will not return until you recognize that i am the messiah and your deliverer and that's what happens during the last three and a half years of the tribulation they realize that jesus is the true messiah they repent they beg him to return and jesus comes and saves them at basra and then he goes to the mount of olives and from there he's going to usher in the messianic kingdom judge the nations and rule the world
