[Music] dude power is this batet crazy fever dream but you know what else is the baty crazy fever dream the 21st century between unprecedented developments like random once in a century pandemic AI of all things and whatever the [ __ ] skib toilet Rises the world is changing at a break next speed in just this Cambrian explosion of like beautifully absurd chaos where no one can keep up nobody knows what the [ __ ] is going on and the only constant is accelerating change if nothing else the 21st century is surreal and that's exactly where power world comes in I know it sounds crazy but hear me out somehow everything about power just perfectly captures this Vibe this genz Zeitgeist of like what the [ __ ] is going on from how the game was made its wild reception actually crazy levels of popularity the whole Wild Card Factor the controversy the AI the memes it's like this little snow globe of 21st century Shenanigans because power is a parody of the 21st Century the actual Creator attributes power world success to a series of Miracles cuz I genuinely think they had no idea what the [ __ ] they were doing cuz here's a little bit about how they started so they did an interview they're interviewing power world guys on Japanese TV none of them knew how to develop a game we all learned on the job budget of $110,000 most models and gun stuff done by some middle schooler who is working part-time at a convenience store the developers went to originally they were un Unity but then it was laggy so they went to Unreal none of them knew how to use unreal so they decided to split up the docks the senior Deb had to teach everyone what unreal was and how to use it no Version Control used at all we didn't really know which one would work so we copied all the files onto a flash drive every day every week we would buy a bucket of new flash drives I hadn't got hired by any big companies I was very surprised that steam would just let let us publish anything I didn't think it would be a good fit at Nintendo I want to make big things that are groundbreaking in Creative I'm a trend follower so I I just want you to picture that like imagine you're an employee for this [ __ ] game Studio you look in the corner there just a bucket full of flash drives what the what the [ __ ] and all of a sudden this guy shows up and he's like dude can you buy some more flash drives and a bucket preferably and then you look on the other side and then there's this [ __ ] middle schooler not only that he made most of the game models and not only that he works part-time at a convenience store not only that he got hired as a talented hobbyist because of [ __ ] Twitter DMS this sounds like some parody of like rumors like oh kids these days are just so lazy all they have to do is just Twitter DM their boss and get hired and in the midst of this CAF chaos the only thing uniting them is some like tatsuki Fuji MTO levels of just batshit crazy creative genius who if you don't know by the way is the author of a chainsaw man who also incidentally ate his goldfish when it died because he missed it so much he wanted to like become one with it I think the funniest part is that this whole thing thing happened in Japan now look I'm a fan of the Japanese but it's no secret that you know sometimes they can kind of have a you know and so the fact that this DIY duct tape monstrosity hails from the Land of the Rising Sun of you know Toyotas and perfectionism professionalism organization and [ __ ] like Elden ring and this changes everything right the ragtag nature of the development story gives off this like romantic startup vibe in some meme upstart American studio also not to mention that it's Pokémon with guns it it doesn't get more Amer than that but no it's made in Japan I don't think they intentionally made their game super memeable like on purpose kind of like how people speculate that Apple intentionally created airpod memes as a form of viral marketing but the opposite they were just earnestly trying to make a good down to worth game cuz here's some of the rationale for some of the game features the decision to make it Pokemon with guns was because they were worried that the game wouldn't be a global success unless they added guns because Americans like to shoot things the gender neutral type a character Creator was likewise because Americans sometimes want to make very ugly characters to be fair on both counts they're not exactly wrong when it comes to wow those some birthing hips and this whole backstory gives another meaning to the name power obviously it sounds like some like jenzy ironic mem [ __ ] but no I think they were dead serious about that name like you can easily imagine some like Japanese developer going oh yes we named it P water though because it's a it's a world of Palace duh despite the fact that I don't think they understand the genius of Their Own creation somehow they keep doing the right things for the wrong reasons and I [ __ ] love it they're not factoring in the memes and I think that's the thing they're missing but the thing is they don't need to know that as long as they keep doing [ __ ] up weird [ __ ] we'll still gobble it up anyways like this post can I click on this or not like this is from po world so I'm really [Music] afraid okay [Music] like maybe the guy who made this post understands the the the genz humor aspect to it cuz it's the Mna branch of marketing and this is their actual account right yep but the fact that there's a good chance that the actual headquarters has no idea why it's working the fact that the people who made the game are not in on the joke the meme doesn't stop at the game the meme is the entire story of the development process itself and the game and look if you're still not convinced here is the nail in the coffing what's your Creative Vision I don't have a Creative Vision I just want to make a game that people like and that's exactly what they did despite all the odds and all the weird Jank [ __ ] this gimmicky work in progress mind you this random ass meme game called power world like just look at this thing I still remember the first time I saw power world in like moist critical thumbnail and I just saw this like Raichu with the [ __ ] Minun and with a game called power world not to mention the game trailer calling it Pokemon like shooter but yes this goofy game with all these memes sold like nothing else obviously it hit a massive [ __ ] Peak on Sunday it reached a peak of over 1 million people and just to put this into perspective and context so this is alltime Peaks for all games of all time so pubg is the goat with 3 million online players at a time and then powor is beating out cyberpunk Elden ring New World Hogwarts Legacy and balers Gate 3 all at the same time while it is being also on Game Pass think about how [ __ ] ridiculous that is in less than 10 days after its release power was the second every game to hit 2 million concurrent players so with all this success in hype there's no way we can't talk about the actual game cuz if you were to send one game up to space to aliens to summarize 21st century gen Z internet culture this will be it because nothing about power is as surreal as well the actual gameplay so right as you load the world you're faced with this quaint weirdly nostalgic Place filled with Pokemon or sorry Pals or so You' think until you start beating the [ __ ] out of this like little little pink guy just start butchering it cuz why the [ __ ] not and you slowly realize that this world is the wild west you got bits and pieces of like familiar gameplay elements from Ark survival Pokémon breath of the wild rust just to name a few framing this Anarchy of sweat shops and slavery and butchering and guns where your edgy imagination is the limit like damn what if Raichu could [ __ ] shoot miniguns oh yeah what if Pals could just like eat each other oh yeah or what if you can capture humans but like as Pokémon and put them in your balls can I put my balls in your and as this torent of chaotic gameplay mechanics unfurls you think to yourself why the [ __ ] how the [ __ ] is this Patchwork Chimera Frankenstein Abomination actually good and that's honestly pretty simple to their credit pocket pair got one thing right the only thing that matters they made a game that people liked because beneath all the memes and all the weird gimmicky [ __ ] the core gameplay mechanics are actually good the game is fun this power Arc from its birth to viral reception perfectly captures gen ZZ humor and the 21st century at large which is why I think it resonated so strongly with people it's not this glossy polished stuff it's this scuffed stitched together like this weird Abomination that just doesn't look like it should work but somehow some way it works this Underdog that upsets the established order and adds to the Joy Ride of chaos we've been consistently experiencing in this Century it's this wild west of white a [ __ ] kns breaking rules and conventions and change but this story is far from over cuz what parody of the 21st century would be complete without its own fair share of controversy woke Twitter politics and on that end power world delivers fantastically we got AI art allegations that turn out to be fake and with the largest election cycle coming up plus AI power disinformation on steroids this is simply a Prelude about what is to come and that's not even mentioning how poetic it is that we're sitting on fat privileged asses and climate controlled homes in our first world countries arguing about Ai and ethnically sourced start on the very devices that are built from slave labor cuz everyone on Twitter arguing about this or really anyone with some kind of digital device we have to be using technology the raw materials of which involve conflict minerals you know tin tungsten tantalum gold and other stuff like Cobalt which are harvested from slave labor poor starving sons of [ __ ] working themselves to the Bone and inhaling carcinogenic fumes while holding birth defect ridden babies because the alternative is certain starvation not to mention people in sweat shops toiling away at our phones and we're out here talking about ethic resource art and AI on the very devices that are built from slave labor you cannot make this [ __ ] up just this wonderful cherry on top of the already compelling parody that is the story of power world and look don't get me wrong I do not like this AI [ __ ] I don't like chat GPT taking away my jobs like the whole point of AI was to automate the aning menial [ __ ] that's dangerous and repetitive and boring that no one likes so it empowers us to do the stuff that really matters the fun creative things but instead it's doing the opposite and I don't like how these gaming companies are going to start replacing their Workforce with more and more AI to reduce the cost of production all while keeping the price the same to increase their bottom line I don't like that the fact we tolerate slave labor does not justify AI art so yeah you can Advocate all you want there's nothing wrong with that but ultimately we have to understand that we're not really in control and our efforts are most likely in vain because the vast majority the market doesn't give a [ __ ] just as they keep buying phones and all this stuff involved in Conflict minerals if they're fine with that do you think people are going to do anything about [ __ ] AI art look it sucks but at a certain point you got to learn to accept that and just chill and when it comes to the whole oh like Po world is overc committing to the bit like dude chill it's a game if anything Pokemon itself is sanitized [ __ ] fighting you're literally capturing animals putting them in your balls and then making them fight each other for sport like is is that okay what about Minecraft in villager freck Chambers and like slaughter houses are we fine with that and what about Shooters is Call of Duty glorifying shooting people 360 no skope I just penetrated bro skull uncons with the giant metal rod but all this outrage the best part of it is that it's making power world even more popular total number of players exceeds yo 19 Milli 19 million people playing pow world it's been less than 2 weeks since pow world was released steam is 12 million copies and Xbox is 7 million players and by the time you see this video it's probably even more so this whole power old controversy Arc just paints this beautiful picture of our politically divisive climate and how this I guess cultural Wars takes place on social media especially Twitter or now X and also how ultimately all press is pretty much good press nowadays where you have these essentially internet villains intentionally stirring up controversy and essentially profiting off of it and the added Dynamic of how the silent majority just looks at this Absolut absolute cluster [ __ ] of arguments and memes and just laughs at the absurdity of it all all while playing our little games and don't forget that while this clown show circus goes on chat jbt and all its AI homies are ceaselessly training every second of every day they're on their 24/7 self-improvement winter Arc they're mewing they're chewing and turning over their training data advancing the AGI Singularity with the landscape like this it's no wonder that j z has a broken sense of humor like whatever the [ __ ] this is hi nice to meet you wow it's so nice to meet you you have a wonderful voice you sound like my type of uh my type of fox oh thank you this is real and I [ __ ] love it and my hypothesis is that the chaos and absurdity of jenzy humor and internet culture is a coping mechanism that satures the one thing we know for sure heading into the future an acceleration of the weirdest wackiest most interesting change so all these memes condition us to laugh at the only thing we can take for granted and honestly why the hell not as moist critical put with his eloquent Pros you see the 10-foot aliens they set loose in a mall in Miami and they covered up the Epstein list I love where society's at right now that that was a real sentence that you just dropped to me that's amazing we are degrading but in like a really entertaining way I [ __ ] love it it's so good so yeah Power is a joke and that's the point so are you in on it or not and as the world goes down the [ __ ] and then up and then down or wherever the [ __ ] it's going to go I just hope that
