[Music] hi everyone we're so hot and I have been working on a little project really mainly Pat I've just kind of been watching it unfold but I wanted to show you our garage team and welcome you to the new O'Connell training and cross the Polaris and Isaac's training headquarters at the moment so this has been kind of funny we bought this house all we wanted was a garage doom and we actually just passed about three years I think and then we took all of our equipment that we had and we loaded it into our dining room so no dining table dining set nothing it had a assault bike a skier and a rower and our squat stand to start then we finished our basement and we moved all of that downstairs to the basement and then with all of this happening we decided let's just build out at our garage so right now that's where we are we've taken all of our equipment that we've slowly moved from Louisville that we've slowly purchased and acquired and now it's all in our garage so let's go check out what we've got in the gym so come on so first if you take a look we have our skier our concept to bike our assault bike and then our concept to rower so we have the three of the concept to which has been super important to me and then we also have the assault bike the one machine we do have that we don't have out here because we want to keep as much floor space as we possibly can is our assault runner so that's just right inside of the house and I typically will use that maybe on days that it's not as nice outside or I'll just run back and forth it's not hard next this stuff was all in our basement which also was all in our dining room at one time the next thing yeah are these rings which are actually the rings that I learned my first muscle on Pat had these hanging in his attic about eight years ago when I met him and we would go up to his attic and we'd practice and practice and practice so these are very special because muscle ups are now my favorite movement probably one of my better movements we also have this pull-up bar it's not a steel bar I can't do bar mess-ups on it but I can do just about anything else I can do kipping pull-ups I can do toaster bar I can do yeah pretty much anything else lots of strict pull-ups we've got a weight belt for some weighted strict pull-ups and then we have this awesome squats and so this squat and all you do is raise it up and we can move it around anywhere that we need to hey actually so you just pick it up just move it out to the front or wherever we want to go with it this is something that probably acquired almost ten years ago from the first Jim Derby City CrossFit which is actually where we met so this is also very special to us from there we just got some plates we've slowly been acquiring plates we don't have any 15s maybe we'll get some soon but we've got a set of five pounds lots of tens some old twenty fives we got these out 45 pound Road plates out the garage fitness sale at rogue your two back we found some old bumper forty fives and I think we just slowly been acquiring these plates I don't think I know but what we've been doing is you know we'll check out play it again sports or we'll just check out and see if anybody has any sales we don't haven't gotten them all at once we've slowly been adding them to them because plates can be expensive the next piece we have is our white board so this was in Patrick's office and we decided we definitely need needed somewhere to write some workouts down so we currently just moved it from the office down here and we can use pen and paper up there for now we've got a second set of rings so what in reims you can see my feet are actually still on the ground that's okay so kipping muscle ups probably aren't gonna be happening but I can work on strict muscle ups and I think just like anything else that we do if you can do strict you can always probably do the Kip or it's just a technique thing that you need to work on but you'll have the strength so if strix not always bad it's actually better the other piece I want to touch on are these cool signs on the wall so this is definitely just been holding on to I'm just standing up in our garage collecting dust and now we actually get to hang them which is super cool so go on I love go up it's a stretching routine that I've been able to stick with it's an app it gives me a timer it tells me what to do so I absolutely love it noble noble is the best you guys should check out everything Noble I just love them and then I've got my being one of the 2017 regionals we've got CrossFit players from one CrossFit player sent a team to regionals and then also Patrick's name and those two signs are actually from the 2014 regionals so we've kept those almost six years now which regionals isn't even a thing anymore if you don't know what I'm talking about it was those competitions we used to qualify for it and go compete at next in our gym we've got some kettlebells so still acquiring it'd be great to have maybe two of each but you know we can make do we do have some lighter ones we've got a 35 at 53 and a 70 and then we've also got a 50 pound dumbbell a 35-pound about 25 and one small light set of dumbbells for burn out sets for our tricep extensions for biceps and things like that we also have some bands so we can do some banded squats in here and which will be bringing to you you guys have seen a lot of our banded videos we've got a couple or two green vans for that um female bella bar and then a rogue bar I'm not sure which one this is I think it's just the rogue 2.0 and then we've got a bamboo bar so we can do some banded bench press and pressing and all sorts of things like that and then we got these sweet dumbbells so these we can add weight to we don't really have a lot of plates to add because we're actually a gift from the CrossFit Games so I got one and my mom got one and we decided we should keep the set together so we can use two at a time next thing that we've got going on is sandbags if you are struggling or trying to decide what you should purchase and kind of going from there purchase a sandbag you can do so many amazing things with the same bag and get so creative with your training training your posterior training your midline training your legs with squats training everything sandbags are the way to go right now we have a hundred and I believe a 150 so Pat and I can use our sandbags together we've got some monster walk bands for some activation we've got a wall ball we can't really do wobbles in here but we could do them on the side of the house when weather gets warm our neighbors are gonna think we're crazy but we can do my ball cleans we can do all sorts of stuff with them so I definitely think my balls are great we've got a sled my neighbors are gonna get used to seeing us drag this sled around and then moving forward a GHD this was also something you don't need one of these but something I really really wanted just to continue strained sitting my lower back strengthening my posterior strengthening the midline there's just so many things that you can do on a DHD it's not necessarily just for GHD setups finally Oh some of my tape my one done can't forget that we've got our rogue box any box will do 24 20 inch and then we have a bench all right so now you've seen what we have I've got Pat here to tell you what our next steps are we've moved from the dining room to where we are currently but we have one more step that we're planning alright guys so since we've kind of moved our equipment around quite a bit we've decided we're going to fully commit to a gym here so we've got a pretty good set up as is but we're actually just gonna kind of blow it out and finish it completely so that means insulating all the walls finishing it with drywall I've already started carrying all of our garage stuff downstairs so we've kind of swapped from our gym being downstairs and having a normal garage to now all of our stuff that was here is gonna be down in the basement so this can literally be nothing but a gym I'm gonna take down the shelving and get everything out of here that we can and that we use more room for Matt's more room for equipment and both of us actually be working out here in the same time alright guys so I have a lot of construction background that's been a lot of what I've done so a couple tips for you guys with some of some of the hanging of this equipment we've got a pull-up bar here and personally I would prefer to hang it from a wall than a ceiling because it kind of keeps it out of the way if it is coming from the sealian they tend to kind of hang down a little bit lower and I've got the option with the wall to kind of keep it out of the way a little bit but still have the adjustment of height and when you're hanging it from a wall you definitely want to find studs and be sure that you're actually in the center of those studs using some wider lag bolts which is what these are these aren't just screws they're they're great big bolts those are big enough to where they can split a stud behind the wall so you want to be sure that you're actually in the meat of the stud so being diligent maybe using a test screw to be sure that you're anchoring in there you don't hear anything split and we've actually got four per side two on the bottom and two on top to be sure that that's really secure to the wall and if you're hearing any cracking or popping when you're doing anything hanging from that you should probably double check that you're actually anchored well into the wall maybe even more importantly whether you're hanging a pull-up bar or set of rings from the ceiling we all probably know that we've got ceiling joists that are running one way or through our garage but I would suggest not actually directly attaching to those because they're typically pretty long and if you have a bulb hanging from each one with a set of rings there's going to be flex and you're going to be pulling on those and at the very least you're highly likely to be putting cracks in your drywall because your ceilings gonna be flexing so if you can attach a two by six to multiple joist first-tour it's dispersing the load and then hang your rings or pull apart from that it's gonna last a lot longer and you're not gonna be cracking the ceiling of your garage so once you guys do have a to buy support that's attached to multiple joy stuff in your ceiling then you've kind of got the flexibility to add I hooks wherever you want on that and it doesn't have to be separated just between those studs so the I hope I hope to make it easy to get your rings on and they also give you some flexibility of where you actually want to hang those yes we have a lot of equipment but I think it's important to touch on I mean we feel like we have a lot of equipment but this has been years and years of us accumulating equipment and moving it around as we've moved so I think for you guys the most important piece is gonna be first start with the basics start super super basic maybe a sandbag a dumbbell or kettlebell if you're really into barbells maybe a barbell in one of each plate at the most start with you know a budget make sure you're gonna use it as you begin to use it then you can keep adding to it you don't have to buy everything brand new our rower is used from the University of Louisville when they were getting new ones our plates all of them are used our barbells are used our squats and is something that the gym was unloading just make sure you're checking out Craigslist make sure you're checking out Play It Again Sports check out all of these places it doesn't have to be brand new equipment and that will also help you stay under budget if I were starting out I definitely would start with a dumbbell or kettlebell because you can typically do similar movements with both and probably a sandbag I think the rope under pound sandbag shell is maybe around $99 and then sand is super cheap you can do a ton of sandbag deadlift so you can do sandbag squats to strengthen your mid line strengthen your posterior and then from there see see how much you use it see if you like it a jump rope if you can't get outside and run or machines too expensive a jump rope would be perfect for that cardio stimulus right now especially with everything going on we're just going to stay in a gym and train and stay home and do our part to flatten the curve so you're definitely gonna be seeing quite a bit more workouts come from our garage gym yeah we are already making a ton of use of this partially just because we're you know stuck at home and also just because it's really enjoyable and the weather's changing so you're probably gonna see a lot more here and see just keep building this thing out - we can't wait to share more with you guys and as we continue to finish it so as he keeps to draw as he starts drywalling and insulating and taking down all the shelves we'll keep you guys updated on the status of our home gym thanks for tuning in get your workout in today and have a great day [Music]
