Great video. Even with space and budget limitations still seemed to cover almost everything in a commercial gym: weights, machines, dumbbells, aerobics. A lot of people would want platform / bumpers, but can't think of much else they don't have. Never heard of Force USA, seems like a decent company. Good lesson how each individual piece may have been "budget," overall still a lot more expensive than most people would think. Would be interesting to see other similar videos in different price ranges (eg $1,000 or $10,000).

"He's just not at my level yet." Ha.

hey guys this is coop from garage Jim reviews.com back again and today I have something special for you my buddy Matt has told me for quite a while that he wanted a garage him so I give some suggestions on equipment and we're gonna turn his empty garage into the ultimate budget garage Jim [Music] okay so Matt hesitate three-car garage it's nice setup it actually has about 10 foot ceilings but he only wants to use one stall for the gym so because you're working with you know not unlimited space you figure out what exactly you're gonna put in here as you can probably see we already installed stall mats so he went to Tractor Supply on Memorial Day and actually got these for I think 30 bucks of Matt which when looking for gym mats that's super cheap but they usually run around about 40 bucks so 30 bucks a mat is great the three-quarter inch thickness and four by six and they're perfect for protecting your foundation everything like that you can also see he has a bunch of mirrors okay so he likes to do like body building type workouts and look at himself while he's you know getting huge so he installed these I think they look great they make the space looks a lot bigger and he got those at Lowe's I believe it was from there he also added in a TV so because he got a treadmill and likes to you know watch stuff while he works out as well as himself he got a TV so he can watch TV play music and everything like that but we were gonna install some equipment that's gonna accomplish what he wants to accomplish which is just get bigger faster stronger like we all did so Matt had three criteria of things that he wanted in his garage gym first he wanted a rack in which he could do all you know squat deadlift bench and all the other stuff you can do in there he also wanted dumbbells so a place where you could you know do curls and whatever you do with dumbbells you know there's all sorts of exercise you can do with dumbbells and his wife also wanted a treadmill so he wanted a rack dumbbells and treadmill he got some extra stuff beyond that but those were his basics those were his essentials so this is what do you got okay so I said like I said his wife wanted a treadmill now there's a whole lot of terminal options out there I've reviewed a trueform in the past but they really wanted to eat incline and decline options so they wanted to be able to you know basically do like a stair climber type thing so they got an order track commercial version they asked me you know should we just get a cheapy or should we get a commercial I said if you run a treadmill and you don't want a lot of maintenance with it buy a commercial version because they're made to you know take a lot of steps and things like that otherwise the bells end up you know breaking you have to have a tensioner and the motors break it's not good this is actually a great treadmill for crack it's got a TV on the front goes up to 12 miles an hour if you want a treadmill you know and you don't want to pay a lot like a trueform or something like that but you want something that's gonna last something like this NordicTrack commercial version is gonna be great so that's the first thing [Music] okay so Matt said you wanted dumbbells well buying a complete set of dumbbells is not only kind of silly it's super expensive they take up a lot of space they're costly to ship and you know I mean they're kind of just unreasonable for a garage gym so what I suggested was he getting an adjustable set there's a few out there I'm gonna master make some power block makes them and then there's like Bowflex which are okay but my favorite I think the best ones are from power block they're kind of like the most compact they're easy to change out weights and they go the heaviest so power block he bought a power block sport set and he actually found these on Craigslist for like 300 bucks which came with the power blocks that go from zero to ninety pounds as well as the stand I mean that's a great price for power blocks and these are gonna last a long time so power blocks is what he chose this way he can do all sorts of body building movements flies dumbbell press shoulder press but he golfs also do you know dynamic movements like dumbbell snatches and things like that I've had to set up our blocks since I started my garage gym like six years ago and they've lasted the whole time so these are a great option and I thought it was a good choice that he went with [Music] like I said Matt said he wants some benches really what he wanted was a flat bench he eventually like to get an adjustable bench but because it's show expensive he just went with a flat bench and so I suggested the rep Fitness flat bench I think for the price and the features quality everything like that that's one of the best values that's out there he also got this this actually came when he bought the power blocs I think he's paid like 300 and he got that as well it's a hoist adjustable bench it's not crazy nice but you know I mean for the price getting it thrown in you might as well keep it until you decide to buy something more expensive so he's able to do all you know his dumbbell work fly work and also use the bench in the rack [Music] okay so the rack was kind of the most difficult part because Matt likes to do a lot of cable exercises and it doesn't have you know he's only using one stall so you can't really get a cable crossover or anything like that in addition to a rack and they didn't want to pay you know in your rent amount for like a monster series from row or something like that this is really one of the best budget racks that's out there for the price especially with all the customization options so this track is from force you would say I'm actually just gonna do a full review on this on both the site and the YouTube channel soon but this is the my rack and basically you can go in select all your different options he got pretty much every option you found this actually on Craigslist but it's got a lat pulldown on the back it's also got a cable crossover that he bought in addition to that it's got pull-up bars make up handles you can also get like straps a peas all sorts of stuff that you can use for the my rack I'm huge fan of this rack it doesn't take up a ton of space it's got two by two steel you can basically handle any way you can throw at it and the customize a customization options allow you to you know do all sorts of lat pull-downs low rose cable crossovers everything like that which is pretty sweet so in addition to the rack and all the other goodies that Matt Bob he also got a bar in place he got these on Craigslist now he's probably gonna have to upgrade his bar eventually if he decides to do any of the classic lifts like power snatch or power clean but for just squat deadlift and bench and kind of just basic exercises with the barbell that are slower you don't really need a barbell with crazy you know bushings or bearings or anything like that so he's just got a basic bar I don't even know what brand is is unbranded it's probably just some cat 4 or something like that and then you got some plates you got some 45s 35 25 to tens and fives he's probably gonna need some more plates as he gets stronger didn't we say that cuz he's already really really strong it's probably gonna need to get some more plates in the future if you decide to get bumper plates or if he just wants more plates because he gets stronger but for now this is gonna be great for him he's just not at my level yet okay so Matt's got a complete set up and you did it for pretty cheap just to give you a rundown of what you got you got this treadmill brand-new for around $1,300 he got all the matting you got 10 of them for $300 you got it for 30 bucks of piece which is actually the best price that I've really seen on stall mats you got the mirrors for 200 bucks for all of them from Home Depot he got the bench back here the rep Fitness bench for around a hundred bucks power blocks with the adjustable bench for 300 bucks he got the bar as well as the plates on Craigslist for around a hundred dollars and then he got the rack right here on Craigslist for 900 bucks so I don't know exactly what that tallies up to but it's probably around 3 or 4 grand that is an awesome set up for you know under 5 grand okay he can do everything he wants he's got cable exercises as well he's got dumb she's got a treadmill so you can do cardio strength training whatever he wants you can train with his wife that's and also set up so if you'd like to see a setup like this we have tons of write-ups on gyms like this on the website I'll put a link in the Bible oh that you can see for our recommended budget setup but this has been coop from garage gym reviews.com thanks for watching let me know what you think of the video the set up and we'll see you next time [Music]
