an ancient South American nation that will take your breath away vast mountains endless views and miles upon miles of rugged coastline but for one day only the remarkable makes way for the ridiculous as teams of have a go heroes test their mettle in some of the most bonkers vehicles ever to touch tarmac who will be crowned king of the Andes and who will be defeated by a devilishly difficult course this is the Red Bull soapbox race Chile hello and welcome to Chile the world's second longest country just behind Brazil with a coastline 3999 miles in length Chile is also home to the world's longest mountain ride he and his mountain range which contains about 150 active volcanoes and despite being home to the most arid place on earth the Atacama Desert it's not all dry oh oh Chile is a world-class wine destination hmm oh do you know what that is out of this world Sony should say that gendell it's also one of the few countries to have an officially funded UFO research center what's that ah that looks like a day of astronomical entertainment and cosmic chaos has 40 teams from around Chile come together for a close encounter at the Red Bull soapbox race today competitors have descended on Santiago cerro san cristobel to take on a course full of challenging obstacles to try and become champions of Chile overlooking the stunning Santiago skyline the rebels soapbox race Chile means business right from the start now this might not be the tallest start ramp we've ever seen but it is the steepest and to make matters even more complicated it hits the track at a slight dogleg so if our drivers don't have their wits about them their races could be over before they've really got started seconds after the start ramp you are into this behemoth wave the classic Red Bull soapbox race berm however this one is a hundred and eighty degrees it is the ultimate test and the only way to survive it is while riding that way to the end I think we could see some wipeouts here next up two identical kickers the second of which comes after a vicious left-hander and it's themed around the famous moai statues on Easter Island now legend has it they were built to protect the Islanders let's hope they do the same for our soapbox pilots at this point in the race things will be heating up so a water feature might be exactly what the drivers need and come race time this thing will be full won't be plain sailing though one slip-up here and your race is over but survive this and the final kicker and you're home and dry ish [Applause] [Music] well there's the cause I like the look of it but you've seen a lot more of these than I have gained how does this one compare I think the thing that stands out for me is the length of its you know 600 meters long one of the longest courses we've ever seen so you're gonna need quite a resilient soap box to make it to the end plus the obstacles are going to test the durability yeah yeah well that length as well with no sure canes by the end some serious speed yeah they could be flying down that thing anything could happen really well look we're about to find out what's gonna happen because our first team is on the start ramp and ready to go Darren Fletcher over to you thank you fellas well the weather here is glorious today the crowds are here in their thousands the location is cerro san cristobal it's at 860 meter hill in the centre of santiago now this place is busy all year round with runners walkers and cyclists taking on the steep inclines to get to the great views of the city but today the hills been handed over to the Red Bull soapbox race and looking around the pits earlier there are equal measures of creative genius and creative disaster we are in everybody for a very fun day now the judges today are the Great and the good from Chile including the rapper se o to the actress Kel Calderon the model Catalina Vallejos Ignacio Casali two-time winner of the Dakar Rally in the quad category and Francisco Lopez con Tardos at Dakar Rally Raid Rider and I think this place to say you wouldn't find those professions together in any other place other than the Red Bull soapbox race and here is the performance of the first team today veggie Plato they get 39 out of 50 on the creativity one of three ways of their scored by the judges today there are the judges 44 out of 50 and there is the vegetarian hotdog which the soapbox is modelled on off we go rockin and a-rollin down the start ramp now it's ER a course that starts with a bird which is going to be a big test for the pilot there is the Bourbon it's quite er sharp turn as you can see whether you can swing some momentum of that may well decide whether you can pick up serious speed at the top you might just lose your sausage as well if you catch it against the wall like that so you gotta be careful right here we go down towards this ramp which looks like it could be a tester it's quite steep and there over okay now this is where they start to pick up speed this hill gets steeper the further down you go and this has been a nice run so far the vegetarian hotdog tomato avocado mayo and ketchup the tell me is in there let's see how they go the big hole at the front that won't be adding to the aerodynamics that's for sure the water features coming into view now and that is going to be an area that's going to be interesting today because he doesn't hold too much water and it doesn't hold on to soap boxes either if they take a sharp left turn like that well veggie Plato comes to grief over the water feature which is relatively dry but it's very very dangerous and if you don't get the line right going in you have no chance whatsoever to come out the other side it's only gonna drop these hotdogs and now they look as though they're gonna have to carry it down to the finish that's where they come to grief catching the barrels in front of the supporters and that's where the run comes to an end for Fetty plate up so remember the overall winner is the team with the best overall score from three categories the first is the creativity of the design that's out of 50 s worth remember in there the second is the twenty second performance that the teams do on the start ramp before their run and this like the creativity eat out of 50 and the final one of course the time taken from top to bottom to complete the course so now we have desks Barras a dose I think I'm gonna get away with that guess Perales a dose it looks to me they are a crew that's 42 they got for creativity they got about 55 in terms of the name because I can't say but they're all motorcycle friends and it's built out of recycled materials the whole of the soapbox is built from recycled materials and I always love to see a fella cling it onto the back when they set off down the start ramp I wouldn't swap places with him in all the world but that was brilliant through the berm that was really really slick really really smooth that looks like it's the line doesn't it don't get too high don't get too low just try and find that middle ground and that then gives you the slingshot down towards this ramp he's hanging on for grim death of the fact but they're over Gonzalo and Joaquin are the two fellows that you can see oh it's gone don't it keep it straight it's a pac-man theme song box as you can see he's trying to pump it to get it going faster but you've got to keep it straight over the ramp at that point he looks like he's okay but the steering wheel comes off of his hand you've gotta tighten the steering wheel fellas you can't steer it without the steering wheel here they go gone again right let's see whether we can get this to the bottom I'm hoping that the name is some play on desperate because they're desperate at the moment these guys through the water there is a splash in there as you can see it's not drivable anymore big smiles on the faces of all the spectators here today and under the finish like three minutes and seven seconds point eight - I can that confidently predict that that won't be troubling the leaderboard today with a time like that they all went horribly wrong so the next team we see today in Chile is Guerrero's z43 and a 54 V creativity score and the performance there's a bit of Hollywood in there in the performance quite like that the fake fides at the top basically the soap box are they put together today oh look at that that's good 48 hour 50 so they did enjoy that little bit of choreography at the top so it's wheelbarrow wheels and foam which essentially makes up a cloud it's based on the Dragon Ball Z the Japanese animation show and they're really good through the berm as well that's two teams in a row who have done that and I'm not surprised he's celebrating because that's really quick through there so really pleased about that for this team for arrow see off to a good start now can they put a decent rug together he's taking his life into his own hand to the back shall we say but they're okay at the moment but Miguel and Camilo are the two guys who are trying to steer this soap box down from top to bottom Ember the course just gets steeper and just get faster the nearer you get to the finish and we've got the water that's been a problem for one or two teams coming into play now not a great deal of water and it but as you can see it's a very difficult obstacle to overcome but they're really slick and really smooth just a slight wobble there around that bend but they're okay at the minute over the final ram.4 nod they can quite get to the finish then early to the camera burnout as well well that's gonna cost them a lot of time he's got the steering wheel in his hand but they've gotta get over the finish line the clocks still running well one minute 11.66 that would have been so much faster had they just managed to get over the finish line how do you go wrong just there well you wonder when you think how well they managed to do in the rest of the course and what they got for creativity and performance is that the moment that cost them on the day I'm with the cart crew who are just getting ready to get onto that start ramp that's it how you feeling excited I'm very excited and I think we can win are they gonna win all right guys lots of energy we'll see you after the break to see how they get on maybe it'll be a slam dunk out there on the course see you three hello welcome back to Red Bull soapbox race chilly now before the break I spoke to car crew they seem pretty confident well they're on the start ramp now we're gonna find out if that confidence was well-placed or misplaced Darrin happy to you well this is a fantastic looking soapbox car crew all pals from school they wanted to make a Jordan one shoe look cool it's the 1985 original and the soapbox fate tellers is built using light strong materials it's built to scale they've got 49 out of 50 for that performance at the top and we've got Camilo and Ricardo on board behind the laces for the burn well you would have thought that a shoe like that would have had more grip in slippery conditions but that's not the case over they go look at this too fast it's too heavy at the top there's not enough balance nineth aerodynamic thought got into that it would appear and they simply couldn't get it round the berm they've gotten quite tight they've tried to stay low and they've ended up rolling it which is gonna scrub off a tremendous amount of time because you've got to get through that section of the course to give yourself the opportunity to build the speed and build a time the further down you go the back running which is good and they're going to try and finish it which will be quite an achievement for them bearing in mind they had such a big roll but the berm at the top it's not really picking up the kind of speed they would have wanted either I don't think over the water oh they've lost a bit of the shoe might have to take that for the Cobblers in fact this what might be cobblers we'll just have to see when we get down towards the bottom now we've still got the ramp there's the Rambo with a ramp and under the Finnish market two minutes and 9 seconds point nine zero but really that all came to grief at the firm now they are down essentially in one piece but when you roll it like that at the topic just takes too much time to get yourself back on all four wheels and then get yourself down to the bottom of the course I think it's the most beautiful and perfect soapbox I've ever seen well it would be if the horse's legs moved or something Wow yep call me the dream maker Kendall Wow you did it man yeah well apart from the fact it's a three wheeler and they are generally quite unstable and the driver probably won't be out to sea I think he's got a chance yeah definitely in you know three wheelers become even more unstable if there's a lot of way over that from wheeling the side so it wobbles and wobbles but this guy's got under control he's a no no Darrin what do you think it's like gnomes I have no my dear fellas I really don't okay we we lejano is the next team family and friends it's Shrek any spells going on an adventure all built out of recycled materials 50 out of 50 for creativity that's a maximum score and they follow that with another maximum for the performance it couldn't have started any better for this team brilliant looking soapbox tremendous amount of words got into it one wheel at the front pram wheels you know from watching these I'm not a massive fan but we'll see but they threw the boom and that's okay that's a good start now they've got to try to pick up some speed if they possibly can the onion frame by the way is reused orange plastic electricity tubes from a house that's under construction over that ramp and it's fine so far just wonder what the house looks like without those important pieces missing but let's not worry too much about that today let's enjoy the sunshine in Santiago as ream we lejano hurtle down the course here in Chile today we've got the water coming up which will be a bow scible experience for this particular pilot gay who's trying to get from top to bottom and he's doing a sterling job this is looking good don't forget bear this in 50 out of 50 for creativity 50 out of 50 on the performance if this is a good time then this is going to set the mark and there underneath to finish at 120 4.91 I think we will see faster times than that today but when you take everything into account we we lahar doe he's in a very strong position joined by Shrek and Donkey they seem pretty happy how was that for you good perfect response Patsy Darren now we have lost your Venice Jedi which I'm finding a bit strange today you can't go with the year for a J and then a J for a J just because it's Jedi but they decided to do it Pelayo and Fernando are the pilots they're both brothers and they claim it that their soapbox will have younger and a more motivated team than the rest of the competition they've only got 38 for the performance you don't need me to tell you that it's based on Star Wars so there you go but we're gonna find out whether youth wins over experience you've got to get past the star look at this watch this here we go that's an absolute disgrace look at that all bag cheers hours and hours of design and practice and you managed to go 25 yards well the good news is they're off and running and they have a crash before the berm the berm is normally the first part where you think there might be a potential problem but not today they've managed to wipe it out before they've got there I think I described that there's a little somebody drive around the berm right let's see if they can pick some speed up but try and salvage it now wash your venn offs Jedi with very little left it's now essentially a trailer trundling down the course all the designs gone crowd is still cheering them on it's that kind of event as we know lot of support for everybody's gonna lose you again you could see it coming he was started to slither down there like a snake left and right you knew he'd lost it than he had and at least you know what's helos what the destroy tastes like today doesn't he it's a dry day that's not gonna help him in any way shape or form he needs a bit of water he's through there he's gotta go again here look at me oh here he goes the fella in the leather jackets come out pick it up fellas look at this Oh God's Spirit God's Spirit God's Spirit God stop ah there we go exit stage left well this one's a little plain I think it's got quite a lot going for it no it's it's literally a little plain it's hyperplane pane yeah yeah okay what do you think of it then well I like this kind of soapbox it's it's sturdy simple construction small wheels low center of gravity decent looking brake pad back there but also quite aerodynamic right is well made very arrows on I mean I'm a bit worried if it goes too fast it might just take off yeah good point good but while it's either going to take off or post a very very fast time I don't know Darren you do the math it's an equation yeah yeah I got that fellas thank you very much paper wings racing team then on a wing and a prayer these guys Martin and Esther man will be the pilots Pascual he's the guy that designed it they all took part in a paper playing competition and Pasquale came 10th he's to try come first today the slip but that's ok 49 out of 50 they've only lost one on the performance and the creativity is clearly good now we'll see just what they've got up their sleeve with the saw like that look at that it's like the red arrows coming down there with the smoke billowing from the wings that was a nice touch and they were really quick through the burn there's the onboard shot shows they didn't lose any speed through there in fact they probably picked up a fair deal of it more smoke on the way towards the ramp and that really safely through there it seems like the fellas were correct at the top in the assessment aerodynamically sound easy to handle robust and it's quick - this is looking like a really good time well being slightly too early to celebrate that we'll play that one by ear here we go towards the water this is the last big test really and they've absolutely sailed over that never touched a little bit whatsoever this is probably as fast as we've seen it this part of the course so far today over the ramp and under the finish line let's have a look at the time it's 108 point six five spectacular finish but that is the fastest time that we've seen so far today for paper wings racing team and that Martin and Esther ban did a fantastic job and it seems like Pasquale got the design just right as well because everything fell into place on that run creative impressive and fast now we have Carolina it's a radio station in Santiago 41 for the creativity that's out of 50 remember I think there might be slightly hot in those suits today's hot day here in dirt Chile it's not chilly by any stretch of the imagination so you don't need to be wrapped up like that now that's not too bad 44 we've seen some 49 s and 50s it's a lady bird is the logo of the radio station so that's why they've got for this pick particular design select the wheels lock load off a shopping trolley so we'll see let's see whether they work or not let's have a look round the Bears gone straightaway I thought a lady bird had wings I expected it might take off and fly he attempted to say Oh Carolina at that stage aren't you so the berm is causing a problem for one or two here in that Santiago today it's wide wheels at the back in small wheels at the front which historically know that I'm not a massive fan off so over the ramp and down we go what I would say is despite the roll it's stayed in pretty good shape this one it's whether they can make up for the big error at the top Victor and Osvaldo are piloting the soapbox down the course here with the crowd cheering them on in the sunshine glorious day couldn't be better really now this run could be a bit better though it could be significantly faster it's a bit of a trundle it's a nice day for a slow drive but this is not the place that you should be doing it all bounces through there got away with it now is it going to grind to a halt give it a push there now intent on high five in the crowd that's what it's got to for these guys they came here with every intention to win now they're just here to enjoy the day but that's the beauty of the redbull show box and let's have a look at the time - twenty three point four zero it was the issue at the top was be the issue at the berm that basically caused all of the problem there we go round the berm left-hand side too much weight rolls in over no way back slides down towards the straw and that was where their challenge ended for the day well it's very good to see that here in Chile they are taking health and safety really see so it's got a full fire crew I know actually this isn't so this is a soapbox isn't it still things are heating up here so I might get one of these guys to hose me down slightly during the break but don't go anywhere because we are gonna have loads more Red Bull soapbox race action when we return see in a sec far out the pump [Music] [Music] hello welcome back to rebel soapbox race Chile we are on the start ramp and our next team are getting ready to go it's our fearless firefighters now these guys really are proper firemen so we know they're brave and I'll tell you what you've got to be to take on this course it is terrifying right let's see how they get on Darren so firefighting racing come next if you like your dad dancing this might be the team for you 45 out of 50 but creativity lot of thoughts got into it all firefighters as we know they're all friends from University as well and the performance has gone down a storm 50 out of 50 I'm a little bit surprised they got that I can dance like that true but another thing I get 50 out of 50 but there we go and I presume the person that's just pushed would be classed as the firestarter but more on that if off they go anyway wide wheels at the front narrow at the back small wheels around the bar they've nearly gone over the top I look at he's got the soapbox on him well they nearly went completely out of the berm they forgot a really vital ingredient you've got to turn right he's just got up and up and up and he nearly went over look at that it was only one wheel left on the burn so what do they do now look at that oh so spectacular glad to say that me the Christopher Norman well were injured there well they've only traveled about 50 meters and let me tell you they've got a hell of a long way to carry that soapbox down to the bottom the word that really springs to mind when I look at this soapbox is impressive the size of it the feat of engineering the creativity the grin of possibly grimace on this guy's face Kendall what's going on around the back I can't even really explain it I mean there's ropes those tubes there's pipe loads of metal I mean the wheels look incredible I do think it's gonna be fast oh well maybe this one could represent some stiff competition for the rest of the field Darrin what do you think well I think you might be right because if anybody knows about this they know that it's based on a famous chili and wooden statue that when you lift it something interesting pops out but we're not really going to go into that too much today lost picker Estelle bio bio they're a family team father-in-law and son-in-law Juan Pablos gonna be the pilot 53 activity and 54 performers so if they can put together any kind of time today then this is gonna be huge kiss for luck off we go you wonder whether this team's got podium written all over it it's all about the run everything else has got perfectly so far a little bit tentative around the berm he's gonna need to pick up more speed than that as he goes but of course we've got to remember here that the course does get steeper the further down you get it's relatively flat at the top the berm gives you the slingshot and then from this point on you should start to look for speed and that's exactly what Juan Pablo is doing at the moment it's a very smooth run looks a very efficiently built soapbox it looks relatively easy to control and it's quite quick to everything going well so far with the water looming on the horizon all the crowd in here today really enjoying things no problem there there's one more wrap to go it's important you get some speed on now to get down towards the ramp and then the finish 50 for creativity 50 for performance let's have a look at the time slight wobble but it's okay and it's 117 nine four so it's not the fastest that we've seen today but it's not the slowest and when you put everything together that represents a fantastic run for Los P Kuras del bio bio how did that feel yeah incredible it was the best I don't know one minute and a half of my life of your life yeah maybe top five yeah that is good enough there's so many people screaming at you like go on go on without breaking so it wasn't dusty oh well done dude congratulations thank you lot that's you Darren so scooby-dooby-doo if you ever wondered how you spell it that's how you spell it and you don't need me to tell you it's the Scooby Doo seemed mystery machine for wheelbarrow wheels and iron structure and they're confident they've got the creativity performance and speed to win today 47 for creativity 45 for performance and now we'll see how they go down the ramp we go it's got life toys got into the barriers I've never seen a star like that the good news is the barrier is there and everybody's safe and well watch this down the ramp he can't be concentrating because he's never tried to turn the wheel if you watch him the pilot man well it's just sad they're smiling right we're going again down towards the berm let's see what happens here there we go around the bar he's caught the core the front on the on the straw bales pilots having a nightmare by the way to obstacles to errors can't quite see what the problem was whether he just went in to tie let's have a look at it yeah it's just too tight just too tight what's that float did you see that fly off there there's a whale that googa the way you'll fly off the side the whale has been blown up the side that's a massive I've never seen that before that's why they've left the soapbox behind it just boy one of the wheels off on the bird my word well for me this is a shoo-in for the podium yep might even sneak into first place nice well everything about it says speed yeah yeah I mean it's clearly lightweight the wheels look really good it's wide but it's not too wide if I did have to pick out a negative the front does look remarkably like two halves of a child's bike welded together yeah well as long as they've welded it correctly yeah then you know it could walk over the rest of the competition let's find out you see far be it from me to argue with the fellas but I think this one looks like it's too wide in the front I seen a lot of these and when it's wide like that it doesn't look too wide on the start Ram but when you start going down the course you think this is way too wide but let's have a look team accion so tell their team of football event producers pablo is going to be the pilot Felipe and rashard are the other members of the team only 32 for performance 44 for creativity which means that they need a very good run and already look he's a bit snaky down the ramp it doesn't look like it's going to be very easy to control this he's all over the place he's like he's on ice he's the berm oh he's stopped come on fellas get it going no traction whatsoever you can see the two welded bike pieces that the fellas were talking about not working at all here we go that over the rad boys sneaking all over the place but he managed to somehow come out the other side I thought he was going to lose it there right now can Pablo get some momentum and can he actually keep it straight it's often an idea you know to test the soapbox before you race it down a hill to actually see if it goes in a straight line here's the water Oh Oh I thought you might get stuck in there I thought the front wheels might get stuck in the dick I'm actually starting to feel seasick watching this one left to right to left to right to lose got again lower the back one's gone you can't have the whole weight of a soapbox on a pram wheel because they just fold like a cheap suit watch that back that's it two choices leave it or carry it or push it three push it to 32 52 will not be troubling the judges some alien rescue our next Augustine and Benjamin the pilot Jonathan Gabby Alejandra the rest of the team the university friends its based upon an alien and a soldier making friends and escaping from area 51 in the Nevada desert does the area 51 exist I don't know that's the big question anyway the big mystery here is whether they can get this thing from top to bottom let's have a look at the berm nice and slick through there that's all something went what was that I said something pop in the background something's gone is it the wheel I think they've popped a wheel on the way around the bird yeah they have a look back left as you look at it that must be the first time we've ever heard a puncture on the Red Bull soapbox race I've never heard one before well that does add a problem because look at the state in the back end now of the soapbox well they're still managing to go with a big push they've got to keep it rolling that did really well for creativity of performance 49 and 48 respectively but the puncture at the back has cost them any real chance of winning today here in Chile through the water which is not much more than a puddle at the minute and they've still got the ramp to go it's really disappointing for alien rescue because everything was looking so good and you cannot legislate for a puncture here's the finish line we'll take a look at the time it's going to be in excess of two minutes it's two minutes eighteen point eight four and that could have been so much better again to catch that is a nice action what is this thing anyway well this is obviously the famous funicular railway squad to say that funicular wet railway from Valparaiso which is a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site City about an hour and a half way from Santiago knew I recognized it from somewhere yeah it's gorgeous it's a piece of art piece of art I mean usually given the opportunity we might take the mickey out of a soap box but I think it's just too beautifully made the one thing I would say is it's quite high yeah high central gravity might flip but fingers crossed it doesn't come off the rails good let's find out we're allowed one pot on this one mmm yeah just at one so it's just the one and this is one of the most unique looking soap boxes I've ever seen because I've never seen a soap box with the the railway tracks and the movable carriage on it 45 for the performance they only got 47 for creativity which i think is a little bit harsh the work that's got into it whether he can see well enough to get from top to bottom is a big challenge here for some well that and Red's the two pilots in there so far so good but do they get this thing down to the bottom in one piece I've got my doubts I'm gonna say they've managed to get around the burn but I think with this one it's gonna be the ramps that's going to cause the problem because you expect it to potentially shake the rest of it off and I don't know whether he can actually see you know through there are there it goes first ramp we lose the train carriage and down we go the university friends from Valparaiso suffer their first setback on the way down and the iconic railway feature is no more but they're still going in fact they're a little bit faster now because the visibility for the pilots probably improved is the water and the onboard camera shows that they're nicely through there and they're picking up real speed now celebrating at the back there's no got the ramp there's the ramp and is the finish and let's have a look at the time it's one 38.4 one we haven't seen too many in that 130 bracket today a lot of teams have been in excess of two minutes and that was quite good it was nice and creative it was a decent run to shame they lost that part on the way down but I think lost El Puerto will be relatively pleased with that their way down the rebel soapbox race so far but there's still a few more to go so do not go anywhere because after today we're gonna see if these guys can conquer the mountain we'll see in a second leave him alone stop actually [Music] [Music] welcome back to the Red Bull soapbox race Chile where we've seen some epic moments so far out on this course in fact we've got a team on the start ramp right now over to you Darren yes we have we have the team Jesus which is pretty self-explanatory when you see the soapbox today and they received 44 for creativity and 46 for performance and pablo looks like he's going to take his life into his own hands and he's got over straightaway well he didn't really give me a chance to say that I think he's got his work cut out to get from top to bottom on this he's actually got his work cut out to get from the top to the bottom of the ramp really difficult to control this with two very narrow wheels on the back into wider ones at the front this is going to be difficult although he now looks like he's got some semblance of control which was sadly lacking at the top let's have a look how he does over the ramp well he's okay there but I would just manage to fight it and hold it right this is where the speed tends to kick in down towards the water it gets steeper now and a team users doing okay Pablo seems to have found the way to do it there's the water [Applause] now we wish we put some trousers on look at that just caught those two wheels on the back and then down you go and that's gonna leave a mark look at the wobble now at the front teeth petrified look at him nervous down towards the ramp wall still he's gotta get me coming down as he got again oh he's just managed to hold it just managed to hold it I think he'll be cross can you see the fella fall over the bails in the background well 237 point 55 they did well to get from top to bottom but that was a bit of a fast so fat and furious Despicable Me themed soapbox 45 for creativity and they're putting plenty of effort into the performance while that lady certainly is there will it be rewarded by the judges yes it will another maximum score they're very generous today the judges 50 out of 50 so they built this the same as the car that grew has in despicable me and they say they've got the same target they want to get to the moon as well well they round the berm that's a fair start although not with a tremendous amount of speed one of the characters bouncing around in the background like Wickham the Christian and Matty Matias are the the pilots here and they've got to try to make sure they get down to the finish good scores at the top the characters in the background of finding the obstacles more difficult than the pilot needs more speed I can tell you that wide wheelbase small wheels here's the ramp a little bit of smoke that's okay times ticking on there they've got to try and find some more speed than they got at the moment here comes the water eventually that's how slow they are through that particular section the water normally gets here a lot faster than that now they started to pick up some momentum you can see how much more steep it's got now just by how fast this soapbox is now traveling the ramp and then the finish over the ramp really quick always got again well he was just getting the kind of momentum that he wanted towards the end of the run and then he just managed to catch the straw bail one twenty nine point seven nine they've got themselves over the finish line two issues there they needed that kind of speed at they had at the bottom at the top and he got to keep it straight towards the finish otherwise that could have been a whole lot better there goes the character face-first over the ramp that's gotta hurt but they made it and that's what matters [Music] now we've said a few times that narrow could work on this course but there's narrow and then there's just way too thin I mean that wheelbase is ridiculous I mean it's more of a chip than a potato isn't it I mean yeah we've seen them this kind of shape before and quite often they roll so I'm not sure it's gonna bode well for them good luck although I'm so concerned they'll have a fruitful run unless they fry down their heads yeah yeah how'd you like your potatoes then Darrin whichever way you fancy servin them fellas without puns I think I'd say now it's the final team for today it's team spuds formerly from Ireland they know each other through the expat community and their intentions we're told is to show that potatoes are a very aerodynamic vegetable hmm so 45 for creativity and 40 for the performance and Alex is the pilot and we are around the boom are we around the boom yes we are he's got the handlebar steering here we nearly lost it there look up on two wheels on the outside they did really well to get it back again you can see by the look on his face he was quite chuffed with himself spuds everywhere shucks those into the crowd didn't know they were getting free gifts when they came out in Santiago today here's the wrap then team spuds over that now it'll start to get quicker that was really nice and smooth through there look at the speed he started to get now down towards the water he could really stick a time up here he's through there no problem at all Alex doing a sterling job here 14 spuds it's all about keeping it straight all about keeping it quick and showing the spectacular run through there on two wheels here's the final ramp over that over the finish line let's have a look at the time 111 point two eight that's good little bit slow at the top but it got quicker on the way down and that represents a really good run there for team spuds Alex did a good job Damian the other team member was up there with him and they'll be very very pleased with that that's all the action for the day from an amazing event and so it's over to will to see who's playing the title of champions of the Red Bull soapbox race killing touching down in third place are the super speedy paper wings using all the horsepower they can muster in second place it's muy muy Lozano but today's Chilean champions are pica Rossdale bio bio and there with gentle now so here they are the champions Piccolo's del bo bo what were the highlights of the race for you today well it's a pretty steep course and then the burn big moment I don't know how to drive out with our suspension car in a curve so steam behind you yeah for city drive well he was good yeah but you did the hardest bit yeah maybe maybe maybe building that one he was pretty hard well congratulations you are the champions of Chile 2020 for the Red Bull soapbox race picker austell Bo Bo [Applause] [Music] what an event what an event that was epic didn't disappoint did it oh no Gandil what was the favorite bit I'd say my highlight was probably the fireman the way they hit that Burma fall they were going over the back and a fearless which is what you'd expect from firemen for me team spuds oh I mean we thought that they had absolutely no chance their soapbox is way too narrow it flew down we were wrong right that is all we've got time for here at the Red Bull soapbox race Chile thank you so much for joining us and I think in honor of that incredible obstacle the wave berm I think we should wave goodbye to Santiago that way to them or that way okay yeah I felt silly the hair bye you
