all right folks I got a good one for you today we have a brand new 2023 Tesla Model the LIE long range compared to the older body style of my 2020 so I'm going to show you all of the differences between the two I'm also going to show you some features that this one has that the brand new models do not have because of the chip shortage although Elon will tell you it's only because of not a lot of usage that's BS it's just about delivering more cars so let's get into it also this video is sponsored by optiwot which is a free app on your phone that helps you track your charging costs I'll talk a little bit more about that in a minute so this is a 2023 Tesla Model y long range and the way you can tell what year your car is is by the 11th digit on the VIN so for 2023 cars the digit should be oh now if you've studied the alphabet you will know that P follows O So P will be for 2024. so we're going to start with the exterior of the car now excuse my card is absolutely filthy right now but this is where some of the changes immediately start to show the wheels are exactly the same I've just put on a more aggressive Tire on mine but they still come with the Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric fives which is a pretty good all-season Tire these are the 20 inch induction wheels and they look very nice now you'll notice if we go around to the front here what do you guys notice that is not here anymore it's like a little kids show they're like this one this one you'll notice that there are no more radar sensors so they removed their radar sensors and here's what it looked like before unfortunately because mine's wrapped you can't actually see them anymore I'll throw in some b-roll but you can see right here the imprint of it where the radar sensor was so now Tesla is going to their Vision system so they're going to be using these cameras up here for parking sensors and all of that the problem is these new cars are now going to be delivered and you're not going to have parking sensors up front so you're hoping that that update happens as soon as possible I feel like radar is the better way to go but I also feel like it's a chip problem Tesla is just simply trying to find a way to deliver more cars and keep as many features as possible now it is cool that they are able to use their software in the camera systems in the car and a software update will change your car so that is really cool but let me show you another example that my two-year-old car has that this one does not so if we go on to the passenger seat you'll see that there is this button right here and this adjusts the lumbar support so forward backward up and down when we go to the other car you'll notice that the buttons are a slightly different color but this right here you have the cutout but it's not a button this does nothing now the explanation that Tesla gave us for this or I guess Elon is that they got data that says there was not a lot of usage of the passenger seat lumbar support while that might be partially true the truth is because it takes chips to put into the motors inside the seats that's just another way for them to reduce the amount of chips that they're putting in each car now is there data probably showing that very few people use the lumbar support and the passenger seat yeah that's probably partially true but the truth again is they're trying to deliver as many cars as possible now let me give you another example this my friend just bought a 2022 Porsche Macan s it was 85 000 on the underside of the steering wheel there's a switch which leads to an electric motor that's let you adjust your steering wheel position on his car it's a manual lever that has to help him adjust on my 2016 Porsche Macan it has the electric motor so what Porsche did was gave him a one thousand dollar credit and said hey here's the issue where there's a chip shortage so we're giving you a thousand dollar credit because your Macan does not have this feature I think that's a much more appropriate way to face the situation you're showing your end customer that you care about them and you're taking care of the situation and honestly that would make me happy I don't really care that I have to adjust it like that but I appreciate that they give you the thousand dollar credit and care about the customer as I said earlier this video is sponsored by optiwot which is a free app on your phone you're able to track your charging costs you're able to see how much range your battery has you're even able to charge when renewable energy is being used to power the grid to power your car so you're not using Clean Coal so what do I mean by this let's say that my yard right here is the grid when you're not using optowatt here's how you treat the grid hey grid you're looking a little tired let me cheer you up we have too much work [Music] at your grid without optowatt now with opto what you look like you could use some water with optiwot you're helping the grid you're saving money on charging and you get some really unique features so if you have an electric vehicle download the opti-watt app it's 100 free there's no paid version and using the link in description helps the channel out up to what thank you for sponsoring the video now both of these cars have the white interior and also if you need something to clean your white interior you can see I have a line right there from an example that I did codejeeb saves you 25 off of hydrosilex.com that'll clean up your white interior that in a horsehair brush will be linked in the description now if we go on to the front here you'll see because of the white interior this is also white so it looks like killer whale in here and that's the same for the back seats you can see that there now if we move over to the 2023 model you will see that this is now black Alcantara which looks a lot better in my opinion and then you have the the white that continues here from the dash over to here also I have a carbon fiber Dash on mine that will also be linked in the description in the back seat same thing so we have the black Alcantara this is a much better look and also this material is really nice so this is definitely a good upgrade that they've done here the back seats are basically the same you still have USBC everything back here is essentially the same let's take a look at the cup holders see if there's any differences here no so these are all the same you can see there's this little feature here where you can press that in to help a secure different size cups that's good and the feature I'm about to show you also helps with the sound in the car the model y they're very echoey and loud on the interior and a lot of that is because there's a lot of plastic up the sides of the car there's a lot of glass in the trunk there's no cover so the sounds are just booming around let me show you these two features that are going to help that so you will notice right here on the car that this is all plastic all the way down here until you get to the carpet the other thing is there is no trunk cover here so this just lays open all the time so if we go over to the 2023 model [Music] you will see that this is all carpet now so this is a again another great upgrade that Tesla has done so while they have stripped some other features they've also upgraded a lot of features it's really nice that this is cart but again it's going to help dampen some of the sound on the interior and then all the way in the back we have this trunk cover and this is nice and it's also really well engineered I've showed you this on the model S plaid where this isn't just sitting here so if you hit a bump it's going to fly up it's on a magnet so that rail right there is magnetized so it drops down and locks into place and that's easily removable too if you need to put something taller like a box or take your mountain bikes out this is easily removable but again a nice feature that they've integrated into these new model wise and that's a good update an unfortunate similarity between the two is I've always noticed that there was this little part right here that kind of sticks out and doesn't sit as flush as it could if you go over to the 2023 model you'll notice it's the exact same thing it for some reason it just doesn't sit flush again these are the picky things that I think Tesla gets abused for because they've had build quality issues in the past then they get hit for every tiny little thing and I think a lot of people misconstrue me making these videos complaining I'm not complaining just showing you the differences between now the three model years between these two cars also shout out to Dynamic 10 if you need tint or paint protection film that's where I get all my work done and even for Ev owners they have Tyler put in this Tesla charger that way you can get some charge as your car is sitting here waiting to be picked up now another feature that really you're not going to be able to tell unless you're in the business is the hoods on these cars are slightly different so when Tyler was putting paint protection film on one of the newer models that came out of Texas he noticed that his stencil that he had been using for years on these models does not fit the newer Hood so there's slight differences in the hood honestly I can't see them with my I've been looking at them side by side for too long now and I can't see the difference but when he lays it down the film doesn't sit like it does on the older models another Improvement on the interior is these buttons are now a matte finish and even have the little diagram showing you exactly what that does and how it opens the door and the matte finish is much better than piano black Additionally you have the carpet on the inside of the door cards just another high quality feature and on my door cards in the 2020 model you can see that they're all just plastic so less plastic in these cars is obviously a good thing but with that said I paid sixteen thousand dollars less for mine than what this is now starting at sixty five thousand nine hundred ninety dollars I was able to buy mine when they discounted it by three grand for forty eight thousand nine hundred ninety dollars so I got it significantly less than this so I'll take my plastic just for the fact that I paid that much less for it and could sell it for about sixty thousand dollars right now now this started in 2021 and that is the new center console so that is also again a really nice upgrade that they've done for the most part all of the changes that have been made to the 2022-20 23 model wise over the original one are all good there's just some silly things with the chip shortage that they're doing that I don't necessarily agree with now the frunk sub compartment on these is all the same everything looks the same there they do have a new HEPA filter so the filter in this is massive it runs about this long whereas in mine the front it all looks the same minus mine being really dirty it all looks the same but the filter is very small on the inside of the car so they've done a totally different HEPA filtration system in this so it has biohazard mode that way if the air is really bad outside or if Russia attacks we can put on biohazard mode and survive another really minimal weird detail is you can see that there's the sprayer for where windshield wiper fluid comes out and you can see that it only has one of those nozzles on each of the windshield wipers so when we go to the new model there are two little sprayers there and it is kind of a weird thing I wish the spray just came like out from on top of the hood or something like that but these probably give you a little bit more flow and make make a more effective clean on your windshield also if you want this carbon fiber Dash inside of your white Tesla Model why it does help reduce the glare that the white one gives off now you will notice over here on the newer models that they have this White Strip they also have a matte carbon fiber piece that'll fit here and using my code Jeeps you actually save fifty dollars off a really high quality piece it's real carbon fiber and I think that's worth it now if you're in the buying process of looking to get a model y one of the things you're probably wondering about is which Wheels to get and what's the range difference between each of the wheels you're going to want to watch this video right here where I test that and answer that question for you and talk about ride quality and efficiency it should be very helpful in making your decision
