Hello friends today I'm going to give you an update on my 2022 Tesla Model y performance which I owned for a little over a year now and 21 584 miles to be exact there's a lot of things I like about it but a lot of things I dislike about this car and a couple which will actually prevent me from buying this car in the future but let's get a couple of things out of the way first I'm gonna get behind the camera for a little bit and show you exactly what 13 months in 21 600 miles does to a car I'm very particular about my wheels and I have to say all the scratches on the wheels are actually my scratches my wife is an excellent driver she has not put one scratch on this I put this scratch I put there's a scratch in there I put it here just the other day as I was trying to get fancy in my driveway anyways other than that the wipers need to be replaced but every 12 months it's not uh it's not a bad thing inside dirty all-weather floor mats these seats not very comfortable although after 13 months and 21 000 miles the bolster shows zero wear you do have some wear and some shrinkage or a wrinkling on this side the passenger seat looks pretty good these things this rubber insert actually use all the time because it keeps my bottles nice and nice and neat and it fits well and it cleans very very easily in my pockets here I've got my Chargers this actually we get we use it all the time what I don't use all the time is wireless charging why because when you accelerate your phone falls off and two the wireless charging is Hit or Miss sometimes my phone works sometimes it doesn't then I have an iPhone 12 so it should work the back where the kids sits sit I've got my three and a half year old that sits in that uh seat my seven-year-old sits in that booster seat I love the fact that the floor is completely flat I have used the middle seat to carry extra passengers I also folded it in the past to carry snowboards acceleration ah 0 to 60 in three and a half seconds never gets old and then this quick steering makes this car feel like a proper sports car and then as you want to slow down one footed driving is amazing in this car especially when you set it on the most aggressive setting it recoups the uh the energy which then allows you to accelerate fast again oh my God there's never I'm telling you this never gets old another thing that feels good while you do all those things is there's a gas station right there imagine never having to go to a gas station ever again imagine walking up to your car in the morning simply unplugging it hang it in here and you're good to go call me crazy but I actually like the shape of this car there's one aspect of that shape that actually makes it on my dislike list but I love the model y performance stance I love how Lord it is I love the darker Wheels I kind of like the the general shape I like how the red calipers are popping up from uh from behind the wheels I love the fact that you've got these wheels and you don't need spacers because from the factory they're properly spaced out so from the factory the model I performance looks pretty mean and using my phone as a key has been absolutely amazing and Flawless as long as the app is open you should be fine you walk up to the car the car is already open you sit in and you drive away when you get home or get to your destination you walk away simply and the car locks itself it's so convenient not having to carry three things in your pocket and you saw me use the app and I've got to say it's an amazing app I use it all the time I use it in the morning to preheat the car there's virtually zero maintenance on this car as long as you keep your tires properly inflated that's all you have to worry about I mean there's so much storage in this car there's this deep section there's the trunk they're all the pockets inside and outside and there's the Frank Tesla was really the Pioneer when it comes to over-the-air updates for a vehicle and it's super convenient usually with these over-the-air updates you take two steps forward and uh one step back which brings me to the thenx action over-the-air updates are great but they can be a nuisance especially when a company decides to take away or minimize certain features prime example region breaking used to work from the very beginning as soon as you started the car you could you could go you get full region braking now you've got to wait about 10-15 minutes for the battery to warm up for a region braking to fully kick in so imagine building up your muscle memory where you start driving you let your foot off the of the accelerator and the car slows down in the morning when you're all sleepy you let you pull up the accelerator and then there's no region breaking because it's super light so it feels like the car is running away from you super inconsistent feeling and I don't like it in order for me to have a proper stance I had to get wider tires the OEM tires that come mounted on these wheels have so much stretch so the first thing I did was I upgraded the size 295 35 21 in the rear 265 35 21 in the front you might be wondering if the range has been affected with the tires have to say no but the range has been affected with the fact that the battery has degraded quite a lot over the last uh 13 months I used to get 306 miles on a full charge now on a full charge I only get 284. I know I know I said I love the shape of this car and I do but I dislike the fact that they made this family crossover into a coupe there's so much space that's being robbed because you've got this sloping roof line and it seriously it is an issue all the time you try to pack some luggage and next thing you know there's a piece of luggage that sticks out here and you cannot close the trunk so this car should have been built like a proper SUV with a proper roofline Phantom braking is a real problem imagine driving on the highway you put your car on cruise control not full self driving they call it I guess autopilot you put it on autopilot you set it to a certain speed limit and you want the car to drive it works fine during the day but when you're driving like this at night all of a sudden the car gets confused and it hits the brakes it happened to me so many times and this the the times that it happened to me luckily there was no one behind me but if there was someone behind me imagine driving on the highway with no obstacles in front of you all of a sudden the car Slams on its brakes violently I mean that's a that's an accident waiting to happen which is why I never absolutely never use autopilot at night my car is equipped with the OEM tow hook package which works great except the fact that it's buried so deep into the bumper that when you have to put a safety pin inside it is absolutely painful to have to squeeze your hand in there and whatnot in order for me to have an automatic garage door opener and closer installed in this Tesla I had to pay an extra 300 for a tech to come in and actually install a physical box and then program it for me but now I I've got this button which works very well I can operate the garage door and it works based on GPS too so as you pull up to the house the the the car already knows that it pulls up to the automatic door open and it opens it up for you and it closes it as you leave so it's very convenient but 300 for something like this that should have been an option straight from the factory you are no longer unique on the road when I first got this car yeah there were a lot of Teslas but not as many as I do see them now and now with the recent price cut there's going to be so many Teslas on the road that is going to be one of millions of people who uh who owns a car like this on the flip side you're driving a car like this because maybe it's uh it's good and at what it does of being an appliance and it's great but if you want to be unique this is not a car for you and then there's Elon which I used to be a huge fan of only because he started a car company pretty much from uh from from nothing was very Innovative but then he got involved with all these other things and and stopped innovating stopped innovating to the point that when you when you look back Tesla Model S has had the same for the most part design yes it's had refreshes but for the last what 11 12 years has had the same uh design I can't imagine Tesla Model 3 even model y getting refreshed anytime soon with the amount of retooling that would have to do so when you get a Tesla you have to understand the fact that you will drive the same design for many many years to coming and then the last thing that really bugs me about this car is the fact that you don't feel like you got your money's worth when you're getting a car like this especially when you compare it to a Mustang Machi you get so many more features such as ambient lighting this one doesn't have any of that so you're driving at night and it's pitch dark yes it's nice having a center screen but but that's it the whole sort of uh selling tactic they had with the minimalist interior I fell for it because I used to be like hey you don't need anything more than that as long as you have your screen and it accelerates fast that's all you need not true you need a lot more than that and you you you learn to appreciate these nice things as you drive nice cars so after 21 600 miles and 13 months of ownership I have to say I really enjoy the car for the first six months after six months I fill out a fell out of love with it and now I treat it as an appliance and if that's your sort of thing that you're looking for yes you're going to have a great Appliance but as a car Enthusiast I I simply cannot appreciate this car uh any longer uh my wife loves it but what she loves about it is uh she loves the electric car driving experience which which is great I almost ordered the the new ex9 Volvo ex90 which I think is one of the best looking uh all electric SUVs I will always have an electric vehicle in the fleet but if something were to happen to this car today I would probably not get an electric vehicle I would order the the Volvo or the other Mustang Machi GT but I would absolutely not get a get a Tesla so yeah I'm curious to hear what you have to say uh let me know down in the comments section uh would you consider a Tesla do you own a Tesla or do you still love it and why you still love it this far I the fact that there's so much competition out there but yeah let's let's have a discussion down in the comments section I'll answer every single uh one car every single comment thank you very much for watching and I'll be seeing you hopefully in the next video oh how did you like the new uh video quality I got myself a GoPro 11. so hopefully uh the footage Quality quality is uh is a little better anyways thank you for watching and I'll be seeing you soon bye-bye
