you know there's always a couple of things that i do when i jump into the editing process of my videos one of the biggest things is of course like the file structure and libraries but also having the right kind of commands and you know using key frames to crop in and out ah that's a simple one but also applying a lot to have the perfect grade and maybe create a lot of your own so that you know that all the footage that you shoot in a specific place is going to be perfect with that lot applied we're going to jump into all of that in this video [Music] i just want to start this video off by saying huge thank you to art quid for sponsoring this video and if you didn't know they've actually brought back one of the biggest editing challenges out there that you can participate in and to enter the challenge all you have to do is to go down to link down below with the edit challenge homepage and download your editing challenge kit and then create a video of art grid footage and artless music in one of three categories a made-up brand made-up movie trailer or a music video using a song from artlist and when you're done editing and all that good stuff and have a really good video then you're going to submit your entry by uploading your video to youtube with art grid x art list edit challenge you have all the way until september 23rd 2021 to enter the challenge and uh check out all the details down below and join in because i know you're gonna have a blast the first of my top five editing tips and tricks is going to be file structure and library usage because when you jump into the editing process it's very important that you have a really good file structure for the videos that you're about to edit because otherwise it's going to be a very hard and rough time to find the footage that you want to use in the video that you're about to edit so what i usually do when i import my footage is that i have the file structure on my ssd drive such as the project and then you go down and they have all the different cameras the dates and so on and so forth and then you just drag it in to your library and that ultimately creates different folders in the library itself so that you can start using that when you jump into the editing process and this is a very good way of keeping your things structured the second tip is using commands and shortcuts when you are editing i don't know about you but for me it took a very long time before i got rid of like cut click delete and now instead of doing that motion every single time when i want to delete the clip i just press one single button and everything just disappears so i don't have to care about like cut click delete and it makes things so much easier and the way that you set this up in final cut pro is that you go to the final cut pro menu and then choose commands and then customize and here you have a bunch of different things that you can set up just the way that you want your editing style to be or editing keyboard to be so that everything is going like a much faster rate whenever you jump into the editing process highly recommend this because i think it reduced my average editing time off a video from around like eight hours down to like three or four the third tip is to use keyframes and keyframes is something that is very hard to get used to in the beginning because you don't really know how it works but i tend to see it as an animation because when you are animating something you have to go step by step and adjust the keyframe for each and every frame that you have and basically the same thing goes in final cut pro if you want to crop in and crop out then of course you can cut the clip and then just crop in but if you want to have a smooth cropping just like the one that you just saw then you have to do a key framing adjustment to the clip to be able to get that and the easiest way to get comfortable with using keyframes is to choose any kind of clip and then go into the video inspector and then choose the scale and as you can see here you have a little yellow diamond when you click that and that is a keyframe that is active so if you have set that on the point right now and then move forward 10 frames and then increase the scale and play that back you're gonna have a zoom in in your videos and using keyframes to enhance or reframe or you know give shots a vertical feeling is definitely something that will help you to create more epic videos with the footage that you already have because sometimes i feel like oh this didn't turn out the way that i want to but then i jump into the editing process and then maybe crop in like 150 reframe the shot and then move it around a little bit until it feels good and all of a sudden you have a different composition than what you initially shot but looks way better and keyframes is also something that you can use together with different effects that are available funny called pro or pro so highly recommend you get comfortable with that because keyframes are so good number four is going to be color grading and using luts for example when i'm shooting all my talking head stuff here in the studio i am color grading this using my own personal lut that you can buy on my website and i know that if i expose the s-log 3 in my a7 s3 at 1.7 or 1.3 and apply the lot to that then we're gonna have this outcome without me having to do anything and this speeds up the process of me editing my videos so incredibly much and i highly recommend you to get some luts that you really like so that you know that when you're jumping into the editing process you can just apply a lot and then it's gonna be super simple for you to keep editing and keep up the speed of your editing workflow and the plugin that i use to create my own luts is color finale pro 2. this is a plugin that i highly recommend if you want to have some good color grading functions for final cut pro and also be able to create your own luts when you have a really nice color grade and the way that it works is that you drag it on to the clip that you want to color grade and then go into the edit layers and here you can choose color wheels you can choose curves you can use hue saturation and uh six vectors and then you also have the temperature and everything that you might need is in this plugin the way that you create a lut is that when you have created a look that you like you go back to the video inspector and then choose color finale and then up in the right hand side just next to the logo there's a small little button with three three if you press that you can see that it says export as lut which gives you the option to export the look that you have and create a lut that is going to be your personal lut and the good thing here is that you can create a lut that you also can sell as a digital product to be able to make an extra income with that as well highly recommend it last tip is going to be adaptive limiter this is something that i use to like level out the entire audio of my video that i shoot for example when i'm sitting here at the office now my microphone is on my camera but to be able to level out the audio levels and get them much more consistent i apply the adapter limiter to it and then it usually adapts pretty good to where the low parts are and raises them up and where the high parts are and then drag those down of course you can jump into the different effects and you know adjust it the way that you want it to so there's so many things that you can do with that but yeah those are my top five tips and tricks that i want to show you today and i really hope that you enjoyed this video if you did please do give it a thumbs up and don't forget to uh oh follow me on instagram subscribe all that good stuff and uh if you want to join in on the art grid editing challenge there's a link down below so head over there and check that out bitter frost with them saying goodbye thanks so much have a good one [Music] you
